"She blessed us all for cleaning up the altars and shrines in the city," Greta offers during the conversation about rededicating the temple, "we might as well keep at it?" Despite her agreement, her usual smile fades as she realizes that without any cleaning magic she has little to offer beyond tearing some clothes off a ghoul to use as a rag and start scrubbing.

When Tristan calls out, her smile returns and she hustles towards the nearest door to the courtyard.

saved by the bell indeed... maybe this demon will have some kind of weapon I can make into a mop after we kill it...

I didn't move my icon because I wasn't sure if we're round by round now or not. I have 40' move, so if we are I should be almost to the door at the bottom of the courtyard. If we're not, I'll move into the courtyard and try to talk to it while everyone else catches up.

Our heroes approach the courtyard. Perched atop the broken statue is a lanky fiend, its mouth filled with sharp fangs and its bat-like wings wrapped around it like a grim cloak.
Do not keep me waiting Nulkineth! I know you plucked some juicy tributes from the dullard queen's army of fools. I HUNGER!
Stepping through the southern doorway, led by Tristan the champions of Kenabres step out into the courtyard.
I see, the fools have chased their morsels to their own doom. Very well... HAVE AT THEE!

Selann hears Tristan's words and quickly casts Detect Magic to study the demon. The spell is slow acting, and at this stage all Selann learns is that magical auras exist in front of him, it will take time for that information to coalesce.

Maugla lets out a visceral screech as he launches himself from the statue at Tristan and his allies. Maugla's eyes become fogged over by a grey mist, and all all who look upon him feel a pull on their souls. Most heroes are able to anchor themselves in their body, but Maugla manages to devour a small piece of Greta. Then suddenly Maugla is there, all gnashing teeth and flashing eyes he tears a solid chunk out of Tristan and his razor teeth sink through his armor painfully striking a nerve.

Inspired Rage, +2 str, +2 con, +2 will, -1 AC:
At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the song's bonuses on Will saves increase by 1; the penalty to AC doesn't change. At 8th and 16th levels, the song's bonuses to Strength and Constitution increase by 2. (Unlike with the barbarian's rage ability, those affected are not fatigued after the song ends.)
If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward). Inspired rage does not allow an ally to activate abilities dependent on other rage class abilities, such as rage powers, blood casting, or bloodrager bloodlines; the ally must activate her own rage class ability in order to use these features.

Celestial Blood, Lesser (Su):
While the barbarian is raging, her melee attacks are considered good-aligned weapons for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction. Furthermore, the barbarian deals an additional 1d6 points of damage when she damages an evil outsider with a melee attack.

Quick Reflexes (Ex):
While raging, the barbarian can make one additional attack of opportunity per round.

Amplified rage on Benedic, Greta, Tristan:
Whenever you are raging and adjacent to a raging ally who also has this feat or flanking the same opponent as a raging ally with this feat, your morale bonuses to Strength and Constitution increase by +4. This feat does not stack with itself (you only gain this bonus from one qualifying ally, regardless of how many are adjacent to you).

Inspire Courage (Su), +1 att, +1 dam, +1 will vs charm & fear, morale bonus:
A 1st-level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard's performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. Inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.

Continue song and accept it, not adverting eyes, move next to Benedic to get amp rage, swift for arcane strike, attack and spend a hero point on the attack.

Inspired Rage, +2 str, +2 con, +2 will, -1 AC, morale bonus:

The crusader's blind attacks and Mauglas speed manage to fend off the worst of the heroe's assault but Junior manages to get past his defenses with sheer dogged determination.
The demon becomes dazed by Benedic's plea to Iomedae. But shakes it off relatively quickly.
A pair of Lanterns apparate nearby each shooting a beam of holy energy, one is deflected by a batlike wing, but the other strikes a true blow. Aravashnial immediately starts sketching out a circle of protection to protect the weakened guards under his charge.
Sosiel moves into flanking with Junior but his averted gaze makes accuracy difficult against the wily demon.

Energy Drain and Negative Levels:

Some spells and a number of undead creatures have the ability to drain away life and energy; this dreadful attack results in “negative levels.” These cause a character to take a number of penalties.

For each negative level a creature has, it takes a cumulative –1 penalty on all ability checks, attack rolls, combat maneuver checks, Combat Maneuver Defense, saving throws, and skill checks. In addition, the creature reduces its current and total hit points by 5 for each negative level it possesses. The creature is also treated as one level lower for the purpose of level-dependent variables (such as spellcasting) for each negative level possessed. Spellcasters do not lose any prepared spells or slots as a result of negative levels. If a creature’s negative levels equal or exceed its total Hit Dice, it dies.

A creature with temporary negative levels receives a new saving throw to remove the negative level each day. The DC of this save is the same as the effect that caused the negative levels.

Restoration is a spell that can be used to remove all the temporary negative levels accumulated by the party. Each casting costs 100 gp.

Benedic also feels drained. "That is a good idea, Dame Greta," he says wearily. "Perhaps sleeping in this place will be less daunting once we have finished cleansing it of evil. Perhaps the light of a new dawn will renew our resolve. If this gloom of the soul does not fade, we may need to consult with others with more knowledge of these matters."

I think we can cast spells and use special abilities before dawn to improve our Fortitude saves, and it looks like that is how we determine whether temporary negative levels go away. Benedic has one 2nd-level slot that is currently empty, so he can prepare and cast bear's endurance. Probably best on himself, since Greta and Junior can both rage to boost their saves?

Aravashniel might be able to advise us how negative levels work, if no one else has the necessary knowledge. :)

Benedic devotes his time to removing the profane trappings from the temple, alternating with praying to Iomedae and using his few remaining spells to see to the wounded. "I know there is nothing we could have done for the two soldiers that died before we could rescue them," he confides, "but still it rankles me that evil achieved this small victory against us. I pray that these fallen heroes are rewarded for their sacrifices in the hereafter."

He attempts to organize a vigil among those of their party cursed by the demon's deathly gaze, gathering an hour before sunrise to prepare and cast spells in the hopes that they can dispel the lingering evil from their hearts.

How many of us are there? He will prepare and cast the following on each of us who has negative levels:
