The Tian-Min drops her shortbow. Taking a running start, Kiyoko leaps up against the side of the vertical tunnel, then vaults up past Sakura. In a flash, she unsheathes Reitenseiya and brings it down on the filament that is still attached to the aphorite.

Kiyoko succeeds in cutting Sakura free the tengu below was able to grab the other samurai and guide her descent to the ground.
No damage to either Sakura or To-to for the drop.

Elemenar moves along the upper passage, just to the other side of the opening in ceiling that Kiyoko went through. He chants a quick spell and the end of his staff begins to glow with white light. "Kiyoko, what do you see? Is there just one creature there?"

“Just one,” Kiyoko calls back.

Sakura is up! Forgot the other guy was already gone.

She readies to strike the creature in case it comes into the 10 ft reach of her bardiche!

Blue ignores Sakura's attempts to hit it being out of the aphorite's reach. Instead it attacks Kiyoko with it claws.

I don’t know if it has reach, and not sure if it applies if the thing has reach, but Kiyoko’s Expert Duelist trait makes her AC 17 if she is adjacent to only one opponent. On the map it’s adjacent though, so it should apply.

Kiyoko parries aside one claw, then shifts to a two-handed grip on her katana. She slashes at the crab-creature in a broad swing, the enchanted adamantine blade easily parting the beast’s carapace as the Tian-Min samurai steps in.

Blue's strike glances off Kiyoko's armor. To-to manages to haul himself up to the ledge in time to see Kiyoko bisect Blue in two.

Combat over

Kiyoko and To-to find themselves in an overhang filled with bones and various items.

Kiyoko performs a chiburui slash, sending ichor in an arc across the cavern floor, and resheathes her blade. "It is dead," she calls back over her shoulder, a triumphant and vindictive note in her voice. The things had tried to pull her up by the leg and eat her, after all.

The platinum-haired Tian-Min retrieves her wayfinder from a pouch hidden inside her obi (belt/sash) and invokes its command word, illuminating the overhang. She holds it aloft like a torch and looks the chamber over for anything of interest among its bones and various items.

Will Take 20 on Perception after that if someone else doesn't spot something before then.

Sakura tries to get rid of the filament.

She shakes her head.

”Let us move on!“

Among the remains of the creatures' last meal Kiyoko finds a cloak of resistance +2, a potion of cure light wounds, a scroll of endure elements, and a scroll of spider climb.

Carefully removing the filament from her foot Sakura is able to save enough to probably make 1 ounce of sovereign glue.

Now that you are out of danger you take a closer look at the piton you picked up from the wall. Unscrewing the top you see a wax stamp seal of a Gokan noble house.

Once you've caught your breath you continue on the path for 1 and 1/2 hours you find yourself following a narrow path leading up the mountain, hugging a sheer cliff face to one side, while dropping off to the other into what appears to be the remains of a rock slide. Several alcoves have been carved into the cliff face, each containing a small stone shrine—some little more than simple standing stones, others ornately carved lanterns or small houses. The path is well defined, promising easier progress, and is a welcome break from the rough terrain leading up to this point.

Sakura is glad that everyone helped her to get her horse up after the creatures were defeated!

”These shrines serve to ward off malicious spirits and bad luck. The shrines have fallen into a state of disrepair and no longer ward the path and travelers against misfortune!“

To-to ignores the shrines at first, but agrees with Sakura's explanation.

Kiyoko takes the cloak of resistance +2 and the potion of cure light wounds, and hands the scrolls of endure elements and spider climb to Elemenar as she hops down from the overhang back into the tunnel. After retrieving her shortbow from where she had dropped it, she helps Sakura hoist her horse up into the tunnel and follows the trail.

Once they've arrived at the narrow path, she eyes the small shrines dubiously. Her look sours even further when Sakura says that the shrines are no longer even effective. "Sho ga nai," she says. "We must go this way regardless."

With that, the Tian-Min samurai slowly advances toward the east along the trail, mindful not to lose her footing on the narrow path.

Elemenar accepts the scrolls and tucks them into his pack. "Yes, these may come in handy." He continues with the others walking down the trail.

"Ugggg!" Just as you are about to turn around a bend a sound comes from behind one of the shrines. Kiyoko turns towards the sound and sees something rushing towards her!

Startled, Kiyoko lets put a strangled yelp. She recovers quickly, and turns with the creature as it lunges for Elemenar, her katana sliding free of its saya. She slashes at the thing, the adamantine blade biting into its flank as she calls, “Get back, Elemenar!”

Switching to a two-handed grip, Kiyoko advances a step forward and takes up a low-guard stance. "Are you alright, Elemenar?" she asks, unaware that the elf is paralyzed.

Elemenar and Kiyoko did not have time to smell it before but as green tries to squeeze around the shrine an awful stench reaches them. Kiyoko catches the ghast as squeezes around the shrine and claws at Kiyoko but misses. claws: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Kiyoko’s Fort save is at a +7 with the cloak of resistance +2 she took. Not that a 10 likely makes the save anyway.

Sakura reloads her sling and shoots at the creature in the back!

To-to moves toward source of horrid smell and tries to hit with sword, but the stench is too much.

Sakura is unable to get past the stench and misses her shot. Purple comes a little closer but does nothing. To-to attempts to help Kiyoko deal with Green but is too overcome by the smell and can only muster a weak swing of his sword.

The Tian-Min fights down the urge to gag as she presses her attack on the nearer ghast (green). She steps in again, raising Reitenseiya over her head and bringing it down in an overhead slash that bites deeply into the ghast’s clavicle.

Reitenseiya goes through Green's clavicle and all the way down and exiting on the ghast's hip on the other side. Green moves forward only to slide forward as half its body moves and the other stays.

Kiyoko moves into the tunnel after To-to-obika and Sakura. Stepping into the space Sakura just vacated, she lunges forward and thrusts her katana at the ghast in front of her.

Kiyoko puts her full might to the blow but the tight space does not give her enough room to swing properly and she misses. Moving further into the cavern for more space Sakura has better luck in damaging purple with her greatsword.

With a quick slash Sakura overwhelms the ghast's defenses and totally annihilates it.

With no other enemies in sight, or sound!, the team takes a look around. To-to spots a pair boots of the winterlands. Kiyoko finds a finely crafted jade brooch worth 250 gp, and a weather-worn journal while Sakura found a +1 composite longbow (+2 Str) sticking out of a pile of bones.

A quick look around shows there is a downward passage that leads to the lower level.

Performing a chiburui slash and resheathing her katana after the last ghast is felled, Kiyoko spots a small book and a brooch lying on the ground. She picks up the brooch and the journal, then cracks open the book and looks over its contents.

"Hm. I wonder whose this was...?" she muses to herself.

Sakura cleans her blade and immediately checks her horse.

”Good that you didn’t fall Asb!“ she says.

She retrieves the found items and then joins Kiyoko in reading the journal.
