Dran Stoneheart |
Dran marches up and around Kaz, hoping that the skelenemy does not have another AOO. He swings his non DR avoiding weapon and the thing,.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 252d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 6) + 4 = 15
Confirm?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 182d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon steps back, away from the fighters and digs in his pouch for his sling and a stone.
Move and pulling a weapon and ammunition. I don't think I get an attack, but if I do? attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 4 = 0 I miss anyway. Fumble the rock trying to load it in the sling and drop it?
GM TOP |
Grunigon pulls out his pre-loaded sling because he is a smart and prepared dwarf! Except for the fact he forgot to practice with the dang thing. His first toss goes backwards into the great hall.
Dran strides up and hacks DEEP through the armor of the skelenemy, even getting into bone. But just not quite far enough to break the magic upon this undead monster.
Halali moves up and puts her hand upon Kaztor. Her touch feels really good. Like REALLY good. Like finding a light breeze caressing your face when lost in a cave, leading you to safety.
Rounds 1 & 2: Combat again. Finally we are completely done with traps... I bet you believe me.
Round 2
Ander (clearing the misfire)
Enemy (-10 HP)!
Round 1
Kaztor (-7 HP, charged)
Bilos
Grunigon
Dran
Xev
Halali
Bold may Act! Trained K: Religion to ID... though it really looks like a skeleton so it probably has DR 5/Bludgeoning and is Undead, at least.
Ser Xev Grimhammer |
Xev double moves into position. If he's going to provoke, he may as well end up somewhere useful.
Bilos Nizhnyy |
Bilos uses his trusty bludgeoning rubble.
Telekinteic Projectile: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Critical Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
GM TOP |
Bilos plinks away and cracks a bone with a pebble. Xev moves into position.
Adjusted Xev into an actual spot, the map is tricky here. Stay in the dashed spots when in the hallway.
The foe, happy it seems to be in combat, tactically steps back and slashes at Kaztor, trying to take off his head!
1d20 ⇒ 1
But the long blade gets stuck in the low ceiling. Definitely a poor choice for this environment.
Rounds 2 & 3: Combat again. Finally we are completely done with traps... I bet you believe me.
Round 3
Ander
Enemy (-11 HP)
Round 2
Kaztor (-7 HP)
Bilos
Grunigon
Dran
Xev
Halali
Bold may Act!
Halali Skyseeker |
"So who gets to finish off boney boy, eh? Go on. I'll help."
Halali swings the bludgeoning end of her weapon forwards...
Halali will use her Reach weapon to aid the attack roll of whoever steps up to whack the skelly. Please more her token when you move yours Kaz or Dran :)
Dran Stoneheart |
Dran steps up and swings but cannot connect. Did his crit confirm?
Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 112d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12
GM TOP |
The Crit did not confirm. The aid also did not succeed. And Dran’s attack here did not hit (which is probably expected).
Grunigon Durinslag |
Embarrassed even though it isn't likely that anybody noticed Grunigon quickly grabs another stone and slings it at the skelenemy. Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13 At least this time the stone went in the right direction....
Ander Therinor |
Ander quickly works to clear the jam. He loads a fresh round as he does.
spending a grit to clear vas a move, and using a paper cartridge as a move. good to go next round...unless someone drops it..knowing our luck, no...lol
Hang on...almost...got it! There we go...good as new...I think...he says hopefully as he shoulders the gun again.

You cleared it last round. You are on round three now and can fire.
Dran moves around the corner and into position, but can’t dodge the opportunistic stab as it comes in, wounding his shoulder (8 damage from the AoO).
The pain throws off his own aim, greatsword chipping the stone floor.
A sling stone flies over everyone’s head, much closer to the enemy.
GM TOP |
The critters smoking neck bone is the only thing that remains above its shoulders. Clattering to the ground is what used to be a skeletal champion… in half plate… with a masterwork ranseur.
Ander Therinor |
To the afterlife with ya, ya bonehead! And good riddance. Ander says as he flicks the ashes off his cigar. He calmly reloads his gun and makes sure there are no other threats.
You guys good? No one seriously hurt?
GM TOP |
Current Status: Kaztor -7, Dran -8. That dude got a couple good licks in but the tanks did their job.
Searching around the burial area the dwarves find trinkets and shiz amounting to about 70g in value. Totally worth it!
Stupid ancient crypts…
Kaztor Firebeard |
”That blade looks like it might fetch us a few gold once we get out of this place,” Kaz says as he grabs the ranseur.
He pulls out his healing wand and burns a few more charges.
CLW 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5
Kaztor Firebeard |
”I was thinking about upgrading my armor. Wonder if we could let it out a little around the midsection, and try to squeeze in?”
Could I fit in the half plate, GM?
GM TOP |
Yeah, it would fit. It’s medium sized. Is it tailored for a dwarf vs a skeleton? No, but there is no reason to be restrictive here based on flavor.
Ander Therinor |
Think we might need to get some bacon grease to get you in there, old boy...think you'll even be able to breathe in that tin can? Ander says with a huge grin as the holy warrior wriggles into the armour.
Dran Stoneheart |
Take it Kaz. If it's a bit tight that might help ta limit your supper a bit. Dran smiles at the Paladin before asking Grunigon Hey Grun, you gonna wiggle ur fingers and hex this wound closed or should I apply my want to it?
Grunigon Durinslag |
"Sorry but that hex is limited to once per day on a person. I used it on you earlier, but maybe Halali hasn't used it on you yet?"
Kaztor Firebeard |
”Hhhhhrrrrrgh,” Kaz grunts as he squeezes his impressive girth into the set of half plate. He stretches to try and loosen it up a little in the tummy area.
Halali Skyseeker |
"Your arse looks big in that, Kaz" Halali snorts as she beckons Dran with her healing hands.
"Say hello to a thousand friendly spirits that want to get to know you, Dran."
healing hex, Dran: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The strength of the ancestors isn't what it used to be, but at least it's something.
"Oh. Maybe a couple of friendly spirits then. They don't always want to listen."
Bilos Nizhnyy |
"Sorry, I left my friendly spirit at home today. But if you need help, Xev can float through that armor and leave a little lubricant behind."
Kaztor Firebeard |
”Har dee har har. Have a good laugh at the paladin in the schmedium armor,” Kaz grunts as he reaches both hands over his head, looking for a bit more room somehow.
GM TOP |
Where too next? Check some more trapped totally safe statues? Somewhere else?
GM TOP |
Grunigon Perception plus Circumstance Bonus: 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 5 = 16
The group moves across the hall to check some more statues. The next one seems totally safe!
1d5 ⇒ 3
So Kaz pushes it aside, earning himself another nice shock!
Reflex DC 12 for half: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
While this crypt has the dusty, disused air of the ossuary’s other catacombs, the bodies interred within it are remarkably free from the ravages of age and decay. Their burial garments have long since rotted away, but the cadavers look as if they could have been placed in their niches only yesterday. Unfortunately, this amazing effect is somewhat overshadowed by the lewd and graphic positions the bodies have been placed in.
I'm skipping a couple crypts for now, since they lead into the other maps and I want to finish as much on this map before having to swap.
Kaztor Firebeard |
Kaz tried to move the bodies into a more dignified position, less embarrassing to the corpse. ”Takes someone pretty twisted to defile corpses this way,” he grumbles.
Ander Therinor |
Aye...and that person...or thing that did this needs a dose of hot lead between they peepers. Ander says in disgust.
Should we move them? Of just let the Pharasmins take are of them when they're able to...kinda twisted. I'm not too religious, but that just ain't right...
Bilos Nizhnyy |
"I only intend to be responsible for the one dead body here. Once the place is safe, the priests can come in and do what they will."
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon is getting disgusted at his failure to even detect the traps. Wasn't that the main reason he was here?
"I'd say just leave the bodies as they are but report them to the Pharasmins. Judging by how well they are preserved I'm sure they'll last."
GM TOP |
It feels as though the bodies are enjoying themselves. Or at least did before they died. Adjusting them could be sacrilege, at least against whatever they believed.
Anyone opposed to skipping to the last meaningful encounter? You all have a ton of fights and encounters complete, so have definitely earned the chronicle here. No loss of rewards of course.
Ser Xev Grimhammer |
Xev zips through rooms incorporeally, reporting on how boring and unrewarding they would be to enter.
Ander Therinor |
Well, let's get a wiggle on, people..we have things to do! Ander says as he tries to keep up with the others.
i'm up for whatever...if skipping the final encounter doesnt matter, i vote skip it...and spoiler alert...i now what it is...since i played this before...
GM TOP |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
The dwarves keep searching various rooms and triggering various traps and fighting various minor undead and demons. And maybe a couple animated hands.
Kaz's beard gets scorched.
Ander's gun jams AT LEAST one more time.
Dran Gorums some bodies into smaller pieces.
Grunigon complains a lot about not finding traps.
Bilos picks his nose, then flings it at an enemy. It's gross, but effective.
Xev does most of the exploring. It seems a bit tedious to him.
Halali keeps hitting on like, most of the dwarves. And yet none respond to her. Seriously, they are thick headed but... come on!
:P
_________________________________________
Finally after what seems like hours, the dungeon delvers seem to be at the last unexplored area. It is over a ten foot gap in the floor, which is pretty easily crossed (or climbed up to from below). The dwarves find two long boards on the north side hallway and stretch them across the gap to give them an easy retreat. Not that they will need it, of course.
They move down the hall to the north and...
This large chamber has a vaulted ceiling, and unlike the rest of the ossuary, bears a distinct impression of habitation rather than abandonment. Lit candelabras reveal old tapestries hanging from the walls to ward off the subterranean chill, and a threadbare carpet covers the floor. Shabby furniture—a few chairs and tables, an armoire, and a dresser—flanks a large canopied bed in the center of the room, topped with satin sheets and a heap of lumpy pillows.
Standing next to the bed are two hideous stinking alchemical skeletons. Pretty easy to kill, but still. Maybe a threat. Sliding out of the bed to a ready position is... something. Something undead, looks zombified. But intelligent? All three creatures are dressed in old faded but very fancy clothing. The zombie speaks!
"If plunder and destruction are your intent, then I will not be easy to dismiss."
Kaztor Firebeard |
Kaz wasn’t expecting the undead thing to talk to him. He uses his detect evil ability to make sure he doesn’t make a mistake and mash a nonevil undead, if those things actually exist.
GM TOP |
Bilos Nizhnyy |
Bilos makes sure that Xev is nice and ectoplasmic and readies to cast all those spells he's been saving. The life of a low-level caster is so exciting.
Dran Stoneheart |
We are here neither for plunder or destruction. Rather we need information, but will not be detoured. We seek to know the source of all the undead created here and how those who created them come and go from this place. We have captured an evil alchemist who has refused to talk and thus far we have not been willing to resort to extreme measures to force him. You did not attack us immediately like so many creatures here. Perhaps we can talk?
Grunigon Durinslag |
Grunigon watches, surprised that they aren't immediately destroying these undead monsters. Then again, all of the other undead had attacked immediately.... "Those look a lot like the ones the alchemist made. They attacked us and we destroyed them. Yours aren't attacking?"
Kaztor Firebeard |
”Well, I’ll be doggoned, but you don’t come off as evil even though you’re an undead sort from what I can tell. We aren’t here to destruct or plunder, but we are here helping out the church. You interested in telling us about you. You are definitely unique…”
Diplomacy 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
GM TOP |
She seems to consider your words at least. But…
”I’m not sure I can trust you though. If you are helping the church, then you would have me destroyed instantly. Are you with them? Can I make a deal with you? Why should I make a deal with you?”
Perhaps a couple Diplomacy Aid Another’s would help here?
