Halali Skyseeker

"Wh - what happened? I was... dancing. Wasn't I?"
A groggy Halali slowly comes to her senses, whilst her bird clucks disapprovingly but surprisingly refrains from commenting.
Ander Therinor
|
wait...what? Halali was dancing? And I missed it? Curse you, you stupid son of a motherless goat! Ander starts cursing and fires a shot down where the creature fell.
Just for good measure... he says as he reloads.
Kaztor Firebeard
|
Kaz moves away from the ledge before closely examining his hammer. ”Masterwork? More like master worthless,” he grumbles as he checks the weight of the weapon.
| GM TOP |
A door next to the body of the Necrophidius has not yet been checked. There is also the secret door discovered earlier. Inside that one looked to be some valuables and holy relics, but also a nasty metal snake.
Where too next?
Kaztor Firebeard
|
”We are supposed to explore and recover any relics, so as much as I hate it, we should probably try to get the drop on that snake and see what the rooms holds…”
Ander Therinor

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Makes sense...just open the door and let me get first shot at it...tenderize it for you guys to beat the tar out of it. Might need some blunt weapons...like your head, Kaz...ha! the gunner says with a herty chuckle and a puff of smoke.
| GM TOP |
Two votes to open the door. I'll allow prepared actions to be part of a surprise round. If you wish to take an action or an attack, go ahead and roll for what you do. However, any ranged attacks into the room will suffer from total concealment (50% miss chance) due to the current nature of the enemy's location. Also, only one melee will fit inside, so pick carefully (unless you plan to open the door and leave space to draw the thing out).
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Just curious, but was the door checked for traps? Perception to check for traps: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 Then he'll get out of the way....
Kaztor Firebeard
|
Kaz volunteers to open the door and man one side of melee against the snake, if the group is able to draw it out.
| GM TOP |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I set up Kaz and Dran into flanking positions just outside the entrance as per the usual two that go first. I put the three ranged PC's across the way. I figure that maybe Zev will go back to ghost form, planning to move through and inside if the snake comes out, then go goopy (or maybe try phase lurch?). I don't know what Halali will do, maybe she can convince Kaz or Dran to give up their spot? I also need healing on Dran and Zev, unless they just want to tough it out!
The door is not trapped, or at least doesn't seem to be. Kaztor prepares to open it and Ander points his gun in that general direction.
Halali Skyseeker
|
Halali can attack from second rank with her kusari-gama. It's not the best weapon, but 3 melee attacking characters is better than 2.
Ander Therinor
|
Crack that door and I'll smoke that thing...whatever it is... Ander says as he grabs a piece of jerky and starts chewing on it. He somehow manages to chew and puff his cigar at the same time.
Jerky, anyone? he asks as he holds up a wax wrapper with some cured meat of some undetermined origin.
Ser Xev Grimhammer
|
Xev will make ready to walk through the walls if there's room to attack from the rear.
| GM TOP |
Since no one rolled an attack and the critter has full conceal anyway, I’ll skip the surprise round.
Kaz flings the door open and the group stands ready!

forgot to mention i was using a paper cartridge when i reloaded last round.
Stand still, you rusty garter snake! I'm gonna blow your head clean off! the gunner says as he fires and reloads a regular cartridge.
attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 141d12 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Halali swings her exotic chain-weapon in long, high loops. Taking Grim's advice for once, she swings the appropriate business end around Dran...
kusari-gama flurry, soft cover penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
kusari-gama flurry, soft cover penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
If Grim identifies DR/bludgeoning, Halali instead attacks with the blunt end of her weapon which causes 1d3 damage instead of 1d6.

| GM TOP |
Bilos flings a bit of stone, it misses the metal target.
Grunigon tries to hit it in the neck, hoping for a weak point.
Crit Confirm?: 1d20 ⇒ 20 lol for Extra Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
And against all odds, connects! A small crack forms on the neck joint of the creature (DR dropped the damage to 2).
The bird craws, "See, the way to survive things is to be the smartest in the room. It really isn't that hard though, with only dwarves around. Anyway, this is an Iron Cobra, a mechanical magical construct with resistance to all damage (DR 5/-) and spell resistance (SR 13)."
Immunity to bleed, disease, death effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
Not subject to ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, energy drain, or nonlethal damage.
Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless).
Not at risk of death from massive damage. Immediately destroyed when reduced to 0 hit points or less.
Doesn't breath, eat or sleep.
Halali is disappointed at the damage resistance, but strikes anyway. She hits! Once. At least it was a solid thwack. Her weapon rattles the metal snake and leaves a nasty gouge (the 19 missed, DR dropped the unconfirmed crit damage to 5).
Kaztor strikes as well, connecting with his hammer. He feels the hammer got the worst end of that deal, ending up with a scratch and the snake seems unharmed (DR negated all damage).
Next, Ander misses with his blasted gun.

It's been a few days, I'll bot Dran to keep us moving.
Dran Fort vs. Poison: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
The sturdy dwarf easily repels the cowards choice of poison and swings his heavy blade, trying to exploit the damage already done and finish this thing.
MW Greatsword + Flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26 for Slashing: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 = 11
And lands a clanging strike! The snake is looking really tattered. A good hit, if it gets through its significant defenses, will finish it!
But now it gets a shot to inflict more damage, biting away.

Kaz swings his hammer at the metal serpent, using the distraction that Dran provided yet again.
Attack with flank 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Halali Skyseeker
|
You can typically use a sling for fire a random pebble, Grunigon, although attack and damage are both slightly worse so probably not injuring the iron cobra even with a crit.
kusarigama: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 4 = 17damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
kusarigama: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 4 = 4damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Halali's flailing bludgeon harasses the annoying construct, but doesn't make any significant impact.

MW Greatsword + Flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 122d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 = 11

The delving dwarves find their combat skills are lacking. All except Kaztor. He strikes solidly at the widening crack with a metallic clang. The hissing head wavers for a moment and then falls off. The iron joints of its body clatter to the floor like a handful of nails dropped on stone.
Inside the small hidden room is a single sarcophagus. The stone coffin holds an extraordinarily well-preserved human man with dark hair, a high forehead, and expressive brows. He wears robes of a deep emerald, and a medallion of a seven-pointed star around his neck.
His bracers and medallion are magical.
Kaztor Firebeard
|
”Well, those are handsome robes, aren’t they? I wonder why wizards started wearing the robes and paladins didn’t, for instance,” he says while waiting for the others to map the area.
Ander Therinor
|
If I have to realign the sights on this blasted thing, I'm gonna lose my mind...or what's left of it... Ander says as he snaps a round into place and scopes out the area.
perc, stone cunning: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18

Spellcraft, Bracers: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Spellcraft, Medallion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
| GM TOP |
Bilos isn’t sure what the bracers do, probably cursed. He can easily figure out the medallion though. It grants the spell gentle repose upon the wearer, which also explains why the body is perfectly preserved.
Head through the next door? You can still roll to ID things if you haven’t had a chance to yet.
Halali Skyseeker
|
"Lemme see them" Halali gestures at the bracers, curious.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
If they're Bracers of Armour she'll put them on.
Grunigon Durinslag
|
Grunigon doesn't know anything about magic.... "So the medallion is magical, not like a cleric's holy symbol? And it keeps the body not rotten? Probably keeps it from becoming undead too. I'd say leave it alone then."
Grunigon Durinslag
|
"Oh. Just a minute then...." He moves up to the door to check for traps, unlock it if it is locked....
Perception for traps?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Disable if trapped?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Disable if locked?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Then back out of the way.

The bracers fit nicely on Halali’s forearms, it’s like they were made for her (+1 bracers of armor).
The door opens easily. A decent hallway leads down to an open space in the distance.
| GM TOP |
I didn’t have much time to post, that was really just a teaser. But here we go into the next room!
The brave dungeon delving dwarves stride forward to their doom!
This room is a charnel house of blood, bones, and scraps of rotten flesh. Strange runes have been sloppily drawn on the walls using some dark brown pigment. A moss-covered stone monolith stands in the center of the room, wreathed in gossamer wisps of gray mist that seem to congeal around the crumbling stone.
The group hears a gurgling raspy howl and two beastly, definitely undead, creatures step out from behind the pillar. They look huuuungry, but not stupid.

Kaz double moves to engage the blue colored undead.

Grunigon Durinslag

Knowledge? Ha!
Grunigon follows Kaz. Slightly behind the Paladin! These look like undead and he might be able to use his healing hex to hurt it.... Double move also so I can't do anything else now.

The one covered in red blood drops to all fours and gallops with an unnatural gate past the rogue and into a flanking position around the paladin. It tries to rip out his throat.
Red has 50 ft move and went down and around. It only provoked from Grunigon.
