Kalak looks dubiously at the guards as he enters, but eventually agrees to Lay down his arms before the meeting.
In the meeting he mostly listens, sort of out of depth with the names, and who’s who game the other pathfinders are playing. Hearing Cith start the verbal softening of the Baroness he casually adds, We are interested in other things as well lady, but Ciths a better explainer than i can be

You have already noticed that the Ulfen had left.
Baroness Nadya looks concerningly at Syco. You seem ill-prepared for this land. I would have thought my daughter would have taken care of that - or are you attempting to tough it out. Let me fix that
She casts Endure Elements on Syco which should alleviate the shivering. She then casts another on Cith (and anyone else who obviously needs it).
She also frowns at the mention of Saarbotten. Thank you for informing of this. I shall have ....... words ........ with my sister. Our offer of trade was sincere. Fortunately we were able to speak to the Ulfins and have resolved the situation. I suspect Saarbotten is going to get a ...... visitation in the near future.
She also grants the PCs her permission to travel no more than 5 miles from Dalun, close enough to visit the dig site.

With the chattering of his teeth finally stopping, Syco produces a deeper bow in sign of gratitude Thank you, Your Highness, he says to the Baroness, but please, don't blame Halt- ehrm, Uliyara, over my stubbornness. I'm just a bit too cautious when it comes to trust people and let them help me.
Cith the Curious
|
Cith thanks the baroness for the Endure elements spell and then excuses the group if the baroness has no questions for them.
——
Once well away from the castle and guards, Cith says “I think that went well. Now for the real task.”
“Does anyone remember, was Haltani going to rejoin our group?”
The player is unclear on this as well.

Syco's chattering teeth are so loud that he almost can't make out whatthe people people ((c) Baldrum Battlehand)his chatty teammates are saying. The thing that's annoying him most is the fact that he can't really enjoy the magnificence of the frosted garden, so focused on the cold as he is at the moment. He would like to ask the Baroness how can he warm himself up in this Sarenrae-forsaken land, but is probably better if he keeps his mouth shut (as much as he can in between his teeth chattering).
He has Endure Elements on him so he shouldn't feel too out of sorts due to the cold; it works down to -50 degrees.

I believe so. From Page 1 the VC told the party, "This is Haltani, and she will guide you into and out of Irrisen alive." Plus she might want to see what we're looking for.
"Haltani will find us when she's finished with her 'other business'."

"Many thanks Baroness, your hospitality and courtesy was just as Haltani said it would be. Please accept this gift from the faraway land of Osirion!"
Kaseem bows deeply to the Baroness as he offers the gift.
I have no idea what the gift would be since I haven't found a book with a description of what kinds of goods are produced in Osirion. Going from ancient Egypt I would say some type of 'old' jewelry that's Osirion in design with whatever metal(s) and gem(s) would be found there.

That works
Uliyara, still in her Haltani guise, meets up with you a bit later as you prepare to head off to Naldak's Point. Travelling there requires three hours marching through thick snow and a Survival check to avoid getting lost.

Just as Uliyara is parting company with the party, Nilah asks her as to the nature of her business. If you'd like to avoid being seen by the Baroness, it's okay to tell us. It might seem intrusive, but the departure is also abrupt and this tiefling is forever suspicious.
Did anything come of this?
As they set out, Nilah tries her hand at orienteering to get her mind off of the deep, biting cold.
Even in these furs, I feel as though the winds of Irrisen try to bite at my face...

Sorry, completely missed out that part, I apologize.
Syco, not being a man of the wilderness, tries his best anyway to avoid getting lost in the snowy landscape.
Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
I think Syco would find himself in Tian Xia if he's to go alone on this journey.
Cith the Curious

Looks like this is a good place for Baldrum to use his Blessing of the Faithful repeatedly on someone who knows what they are doing.
I think that is probably Kalak if they will allow it.
Cith is happy to see Haltani again. After greeting her, he suggests that they get going.
Once they leave the protection of the city walls, Cith starts to become worried as it appears others are just as much city folk as he is. He makes his best guess as to the direction they should travel through the snow.

Thanks for the reminder! :-)
Baldrum casts guidance and uses Blessing of the Faithful on anyone who tries to navigate the group and allows it.
Edit: That's a total bonus of +3 to the check (+1 competence, +2 profane).
@GM: If Baldrum can keep spamming that combo for everyone in the group, it would make Nilah's survival check result 18 and turn Cith's roll into a successful aid.

With the way the dice roller is treating you lately, I'll allow it
With Baldrum's blessings and Uliyara's assistance you only take three hours to reach the site. Once you get there...
As the vast plains give way to rugged hills, the ground becomes hard and icy. An enormous rocky mound protrudes from the ground, covered in ice and snow. On the northeast side of the mound, thick walls of ice cascade down the side of the hill like a miniature glacier. Two shapeless stone monoliths stand near the base of the mound.
The entrance to Naldak’s Point lies beyond a collapsed archway. Several feet of ice have frozen over the once splendid foyer; those who look closely can still see the remains of chiseled stonework beyond the frozen wall, and a tunnel leading into the rocky mound.

Cith the Curious

When the group arrives at Naldak’s Point, Cith concentrates for a moment.
Implant Alacrity in himself since no one else wants a trick implanted.
He then goes up to the wall and inspects it. “This seems like a good time to use some of that clay to melt our way in.”

I placed Kaseem's token on the slide but I'm not sure where the PCs start.
Kaseem scans the area for signs of any life besides the group.

Turning to Cith he says, "Yes this seems like the place we were looking for and hopefully the Sky Key is somewhere within to site."
Nilah Sevrom
|
Indeed it is. What's the least amount we can use to get through at this point?
She helps Cith unpack some of the blackfire clay bricks.
Okay so...
Blackfire clay is an alchemical item. It is a pliant black clay that is always pleasantly warm to the touch. Working blackfire clay in your hands for a full round causes the clay to grow much warmer, granting you a +4 alchemical bonus on saving throws made to resist cold weather. You can combine five blocks of clay over the course of a minute to produce a source of warmth equivalent to a small campfire, allowing you to heat a campsite and cook food.
Blackfire clay only produces heat, never light, smoke, or odor. The clay emits warmth for 1 hour before hardening into an unusable lump. A newly created brick of blackfire clay is composed of 10 blocks.
One brick could make the equivalent of two campfires.
Nilah speculates with the party that one campfire worth of heat should melt a path through the wall of ice.

It takes you two hours and all the blackfire clay but, in the end, you have managed to melt a large enough tunnel through the ice.
