Once again I'm very sorry it's taking me so long to get posts up. Both April and early May have been just overwhelming. My workload is up and we transitioned back to working in the office part time. Since I work for the state and all such changes happen at all state offices together, it was a big change with many, many meetings and emails involved. On top of that many federal rules changed at the start of May as Covid-19 policies and procedures are replaced with 2+ year old versions from before. That meant many more meetings and emails.
Meetings would sometimes run so long over their scheduled slots they would completely swallow the meetings scheduled behind them, which would then have to be rescheduled. With all this going on we also still had our regular work to get done somehow. I also had a pet die. It's been a lot.
I think I'm mostly in the clear now with work and things will be returning to normal again. I'll be catching up on gameplay over the next two or three days.
I hope I haven't been too much trouble to wait for.

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

It has not been trouble as far as I can tell. Sorry to hear you dealt with that intensity, it does sound like a lot. I hope it's really over.

Actaeon Pythanus |

FIY I'll be on the roads from tomorrow till the week end (back on Saturday probably)
Safe Travels!

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Who hasn't weighed in on the plan yet (who hates the current forming one, has a better idea, etc.)?

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Welp. The rolls sure undid the plan :grimacing:

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Yeah for sure. I don't see anything unfair, just the RNG had a hey day :P

Okay, partial cover is entirely GM discretion, but since you asked:
"To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target’s square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC)."
"If a creature has cover, but more than half the creature is visible, its cover bonus is reduced to a +2 to AC and a +1 bonus on Reflex saving throws. This partial cover is subject to the GM’s discretion."
I put an image in the slides just after the battle map. The archer is 20' up and 55' away; any line from the most optimal corner of its square (the front top corner) still crosses the fallen tree when trying to get to at least some of the corners of Sirinus's square.
Yes, 3-D is tricky, but you can just treat this side-view as if it were a top-down view and everyone was on the ground; cover should work the same way.
I would say that probably less than half of Sirinus is visible; he's of a similar height to the log (somewhat taller, I assume, but not 50% taller) and the archer's angle is less than 45 degrees.
But again, judgement call by the GM. If he is still hit, I would expect that he could drop prone as a free action to gain total cover against any further arrows.
I don't wish to quibble about rules, and I am fine with your rulings, but I do enjoy the aspect of the game where characters try to be clever and use the environment to their advantage.

Actaeon Pythanus |

I went back and forth a few times until I read the rules provided and considered the graph. I am thinking Cover (+4) is the right call, IMO.
Looking at the graph provided by Emerald (thank you for taking the time), the line-of-sight would most-likely be impeded by the tree. If we consider the tree having a diameter of 5 feet (since it takes up a 5 foot space), it would cover more that 1/2 of a standing medium-sized Sirinus.
That said, with such a colorful description of the successful attack provided by Sirinus for character development, I think a fair compromise would be a reduced damage count down to 2 HP.
Just thoughts and my 2 cents.
But when it comes down to it, the GM's call is final.

(sorry for the delay, I thought I posted earlier)
I'll be on vacation this Friday evening.
It will be a very busy vacation, as I have a job interview next week, and I'm moving home the week after.
I might be a few days without internet, but I guess I'll be back at the end of the month. Will try to post when I can.

Emerald Garess |

@GM, are you actually using Fumble rules in this game?
If there is a feat I can take to remove the chance of Fumbles, I will.
Or, I will forfeit the chance of ever getting a Critical Hit in exchange for avoiding the chance of Fumbling.

Emerald Garess |

I have never liked fumble rules, so I would say no, but if you really want to use them then I'd like there to be a feat to avoid them (if a feat can give you a +100% chance of critting, a feat should be able to give you a -100% chance of fumbling).

So I wanted to get on here and give a slight update on myself. In the beginning of May I lost my job(my fault) so despite that I didn't like the job for some time I have been in a bit of a depression that I am slowly coming out of. Luckily Unemployment came through after a few weeks and I have some good friends who have offered me side work and another friend with a small business letting me work a short shift once a week to help with a side project they are working on.
However most recently I applied and it looks like I will be approved for a free job training program funded by the state and the local community collage to learn CNC machining with potential job placement at the end so I have added anxiety to my depression. I have no plans to stop the game or playing in the other two games but this is all just to explain why there may be a day or so gap in posting on this game sometimes while I get out of my own head.

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Sorry you're going through some stuff Paradise. I hope your current developing opportunities work out!
My take is always that the game should remain fun and never add yet more stress. So for my part at least, don't sweat it and take your time.

Actaeon Pythanus |

Take your time GM and take care of yourself. Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what we need. I am seriously considering it myself. Know that you are not alone.
I wish you well and come back to the game when you are ready.

Ludivine Pythanus |

@Paradise: The program sounds a lot like to one I work for. Do you happen to know if it is the STEP Program? That's what it's called here in Oregon and I believe every state has the same, but the names might vary. We refer participants to the local community colleges a lot, they're among our biggest partners.
Take whatever time you need to and know we're rooting for you!

Wanted to get a quick opinion. I want to get this game back on track and moving. However Erik Mona @ GenCon yesterday said that all the Kingmaker anniversary items are finally in warehouse and backers of the Crowdfund(which I fully backed) will be getting their items in September.
So the question is. Do we want to get back to it and when I get my hands on that I will adjust and add it in adhoc. Or should we continue our current pause until that comes around.
I personally kind of want to get back too it, but don't know how drastic the changes are going to be. One that I know for sure is there is a new prolog taken from the Computer game version that we can do as a flashback if wanted. The other change I know about is that there are several npc companions introduced from the computer game and I don't know how soon they are supposed to appear. In the computer game they are the party in the tabletop they are obviously going to fill more of an npc role.

Ludivine Pythanus |

Either is fine with me. I'm content with what the majority decides.
I know Mioki is busy right now, and this time of the year can see people away on vacation and so forth. On the other hand if everyone is going to be available and want to get on with it, I can do that.
I never played the video game and don't know much at all about it. I'm curious to see what it does with the first book, which I know a bit about.

I am a big fan of the computer game and would welcome elements and NPC's from the game.
I am fine either way. My suggestion would be to let's have this current battle play out and see how long it takes us.
Even if shipping starts in September, your order may not arrive in your hands until late September or possibly October depending on the warehouse and what type of shipping you selected. Then you'll need time to review the changes and decide what you would like to implement.
It really comes down to how long do you want to wait. I plan on being here when you are ready.
While I am here, I'll offer a quick update on Azlant's status. I do want to get things going again. (hopefully, you all do too) Work has been sucking a lot of my time and energy. Some of my health issues have resurfaced, and I am recognizing that many are due to the stress and long hours at work. I am making some progress at work and do feel my motivation coming back. Hopefully, I'll start posting again soon.

I think playing out this battle and seeing makes a lot of sense. We can see where we are then.
Mioki, hope the health issues go away soon enough for you. Take your time. Motivation can be a hard thing to cultivate depending on what's going on.

Ok all voices heard.
Tomorrow I am gonna get this Encounter back on track. After we finish it and get back to a safe local I think I want to do a brief pause to see what the new version can offer and make any changes I like.
Had a very stressful weekend but on the inverse I started my classes today and it seem promising and the class is small so should be able to get good 1 on 1 time with the professor.
@Ludi because you asked before the program is officially called CNC.CA which itself is part of the PNT.aas associates degree track.
Here is hoping relearning and using trig after not being in a math based field or school for over 10 years doesn't melt my brain.

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Flashback sounds cool if others are game.

Actaeon Pythanus |

Sorry for the very late response. A Flashback with the updated intro-scene sounds good to me.
Hope the classes are interesting and going well.

Actaeon Pythanus |

I have been playing Actaeon as the brother-protector, but I think he needs Ludivine to protect him.
I believe Actaeon has only hit after using a Hero Point. Sheesh!

Actaeon Pythanus |

Below is a list of the loot. Double-check, I could have missed something.
321 SP
205 GP
silver earings worth 150 gp
wooden music box 90 gp
3 crates of furs & hides (each worth 50 gp)
8 bottles full bottles of a potent greenish herbal liquid in a polished wooden case
3 longswords, 3 longbows, 3 quivers of arrows, 4 daggers
studded leather
2 masterwork handaxes
potion CLW
Not sure if we could could carry all of this back without use of the cart. I guess we could abandon the crates and stack the furs and hides.
Split the gold evenly?
Actaeon would be eyeing up one of the handaxes, but he already obtained the MW bow. Actaeon would also take any unclaimed quivers of arrows.
Since we are going back in time, should we add these goodies to our characters now? For instance, Actaeon will still have his old longbow instead of the MW bow that he now carries.

Sirinus Kivaalnaar |

Ah, I presumed Acteon was speaking of non-party members we hadn't met. I completely forgot about the flashback plan, but I don't think my post contradicts it.
