Kait'lax already fed Jaqweh, so may as well feed Dridapex too.
Jaqweh Navar |
Jaqweh agrees to provide a sample. After all, it's not that different from what he asked of the team earlier, as Kait'lax points out.
When Dridapex is finished, though, he inquires if he too might have a sample of the orocoran's DNA for his studies. It might provide some interesting data for his upcoming thesis.
Id-Sinitis |
Id hesitates. Not sure I'm cool with my juices getting sampled by this tower...
Tolar Buntu |
"I've spilled a lot of blood on this extended mission, What's a bit more.
A lot of Tolar is non-organic at this point but blood is provided.
GM Aerondor |
Dridapex considers Jaqweh's request for a moment. Let us see how you perform in the tower. Do well and your request for that honor may be granted. it thinks back.
You cross the bridge, with Dridapex pausing for a brief moment to sample some blood from a fallen Hellknight.
A simple archway leads into a hexagonal room at the base of the tower. The stone walls of the room glisten with an obsidian sheen, and huge tumors of pulsating flesh cover large sections of the walls. A stone bier stands in the center of the room with a robed corpse resting atop it. A waterfall of ichor flows from a diamond-shaped hole in the ceiling, surrounding the bier with a curtain of black liquid. At the far end of the room, another archway leads to stairs that ascend around the outside of the tower.
The antiquarians of the repository use this room to prepare deceased Ichor Lords for assimilation into the tower. Their bodies are laid to rest on the stone bier and then treated with chemical mixtures to ready their flesh.
Map updated
As Dridapex moves forward to sample the ichor flowing down from the ceiling, two figures detach themselves from the far side of the hall and move to block your access further into the tower.

Before even Jaqweh can act the first of the devils springs into the air, springing up into the darkness above it. Luckily, before the second has time to do likewise he gets a quick reading on it.
That devil looks to be immune to not just fire (as is normal with all devils) but also cold. However the quickness of their action prevents any further readings.
The second also springs into the air. They then discharge some type of cold weapon, first at Tolar..

@Kait How are you "seeing" the devil? Blindsence is only 30' and they are 30' up. Also.. .it is dark.
Killdroid fires blindly... nad misses.
Tolar advances on the flying devil, his very warranted concern about its martial abilities evident on his face.
Indeed its bonus to hit with that attack is >=24
@Tolar, they are 30' up, how are you going to reach them with your pike? Also how are you seeing them?
Joe tries a big leap to reach one of the devils.
They are 30' up, while as a half orc you have darkvision and can see, I'm not sure how you are getting a 30' leap accomplished in high gravity. Even with a reach weapon and large size, you would still need to leap at least an extra 15'
Id takes on the form of starlight, providing dim illumination to the room.
So if you don't have dark vision, and Id is not within 30' of your target, the dim illumination provides a 20% miss chance. If you have low light vision then you don't have a miss chance if Id is within 60'
Id is horrified by the creatures, he has never heard of anything so horrid.

Talar has Force Soles Mark 2. He airwalks at all times so he hasted bumping his speed up to 90 then reduced to 45 due to gravity and just walked up to it like walking up stairs. I missed the Darkness part but Tolar has a Flashlight clipped to his armor. Did it suddenly go dark or has it been dark?
GM Aerondor |
Within the tower is pretty much dark unless otherwise stated. Not a major issue once Id goes into Starlight form. Flashlight gives you a 20' cone, so that works well, and air-walking gives plenty of height.

Kait'lax has darkvision 60 ft. from the Night Vision Processor mechanic trick, and Killdroid has the same from the Enhanced Senses drone mod.
Plus, the bright weapon property on the rifle raises the light level around the creature hit 20 ft.

Tolar is currently under the effects of Haste. Do they just cancel out? Also what are the damage types of that spear? Pure cold or piercing and cold? Because Tolar also has DR 11 vs Piercing damage.
Joe Bread |
I missed the thing devils are flying. Joe is large and with Lash has 15 feet reach. So, I will roll athlitics to jump for now and think how to work around further.
Athletics to jump: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Joe jumps almost for 7 feet into te air to lash the flying devil...but probably high gravity breaks his expectations and distance appeared too big.
GM Aerondor |
All, if you could put your various DR and elemental resistances in your tag lines that would be helpful.
@Tolar The spear was just piercing damage
@Tolar I assume the haste and slow cancel each other out so long as they both are active.

One good hit is better then no hits. Do we know how to stop the regen?
Id-Sinitis |
I think it's good damage that stops the regen. Only variable between the two devils.
Id sees Tolar's sacred pike draw blood and follows up with a psychic surge.
Standard cast mind thrust III on red.
Caster Level vs SR (Greater Spell Penetration): 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 4 = 35
Damage (Will DC 22 half): 7d10 ⇒ (9, 4, 9, 5, 4, 10, 4) = 45
Jaqweh Navar |
"He's not the one you need to worry about, my hellish friend. You're outnumbered, and though it may take a while, you'll go back to Hell one way or another. Do yourself a favor, and simply step aside."
"Please," he adds with a half nod to make it a request.
Diplo to Intimidate, Expertise, 2x duration : 1d20 + 22 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 22 + (5) + 2 = 49
He then adds to the point made by providing some tactical advise about how best to slice into the devil's hide.
He can both Demoralize and Get Em as Move actions, so whichever.
GM Aerondor |
Only the first electricity damage is effective, as the devil only hit once. Still, ten is better than none
Tolan's pike smashes into the devil with a terrifying crash, causing the devil a heavy wound that doesn't seem to close. Then Id tries his own mental attack, that seems more effective than Dridapex's.
will DC22: 1d20 ⇒ 5
The battle is not going well for it as it screams in mental agony.
Jaqweh then offers a deceptive hint at survival for the foul creature. It shakes a little, obviously tempted and shaken by indecision.
