Suki Yumio |
Although Suki can hear the noise of conversation behind the door, she cant understand the language. Still wishing to remain undetected, Suki silently heads back down the hall, trying the lock on her way. She stands beside Bamur and watches as the goblin falls to the feet of Tagagashi. (Moves to O14) Does anyone know a different language? I can hear a conversation behind those doors but I cannot translate.
Mythandor Arathorn |
We three know a number of languages, but I am assuming you need someone who speaks goblin, which means me, Mythandor replies before casting detect magic and looking over the three dead goblins.

In a gory display of masterful precision, Tagagashi presents the still beating heart of his vanquished foe, on the tip of his sword, as the goblins corpse falls to the floor at his feet.
Combat Over!
From, the far side of the room Suki stealths back to the group bringing word of what was down the hall, requiring aid to make use of it. Mythandor offers his services as he looks over their fallen opponents quickly, pocketing some gold pieces for the party's treasure (27 gp each x 3, mundane weapons and armor). Some quick conversation and the party decides to scope out everything accessible before moving on.
Zoogore, grinning, bows and 'presents' the door to Suki as though she were royalty. After you, your highness.

TAGAGASHI
Tagagashi turns to his left, now facing Kip, Well if you're looking for something to do, I might have just the thing for you. It appears this isn't just a hiding spot, but it's actually a tunnel. I believe it connects to the trapped room from earlier. There's a couple of problems though, the samurai hesitates and looks around the room, scanning each of his companions, It's a tight fit, and knowing these goblins, the tunnel might be trapped as well. However, would they really trap a hidden tunnel?
Kiþ Bendybrook |
With Bamur still watching the other corridor and Suki listening at the remaining door, Kip shrugs his shoulders. Can do.
He steps past Tagagashi and over the goblin's remains. I'll need Mr. Bigglesworth for a moment, he remarks as the glowing figure floats past, into the passageway, and proceeds forward ahead of Kip.
The halfling starts into the tunnel just at the tail edge of the light begins to recede into the darkness.
Stealth and active perception to look for traps and secrets.

Mythandor backtracks to the room avoided earlier as Tagagashi keeps an eye on Kip, as best he can, until the sorcerer disappears down the tunnel, just outside the lights illumination.
As far as you can see, so far, the tunnel keeps it's size and is free and clear of any traps, secrets or debris. Roughly 30-40 feet ahead of you the tunnel looks to turn right and that's where you loose sight.
Map positions for you and Mr. B don't exactly match your post but it was to give the 'blind in the dark' people one more turn in the light.
The tunnel is 4 feet tall. Medium creatures walking upright can navigate the tunnel by squeezing to move taking a –4 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to AC. Small and smaller creatures can move about normally, as can most quadrupedal Medium creatures (including goblin dogs).
At the third door now, Suki listens closely, aware that anything behind it likely heard the sounds of their 'scuffle'.
You hear nothing. You hear it for long enough that you start to pull back when the sound of wood creaking barely catches your attention... a chair?... a bow?... Zoogore?...?
Mythandor Arathorn |
Mythandor watches for Mr. Bigglesworth and/or Kip to emerge into the trapped tower. He scans the whole area to make sure nothing else is sneaking up on them.
Mythandor has darkvision 60'. He should be able to see more on his map.
Bamur Brightforge |
As the room grows dark Bamur notices the other three struggling to see without Mr. Bigglesworth's help. You might want to light a torch or lantern just in case something happens before Kip returns, he suggests.
Suki Yumio |
The sound of nothing fills Sukis ear as she tries to listen in. Just as she thinks she's heard enough, the sound of wood creaking barely catches her ear. She turns around scanning the room to make sure the noise had come from behind the door. Still unsure, Suki tries the lock and checks for traps...

Kip and Mythandor both have an 'all clear' view of the room Bamur warned against entering from the hallway. The wizard keeps an eye from the hall, safely avoiding the danger area, while the other arcane caster enters the room via the secret tunnel...
As you reach the north end of the tunnel you see a loop of rope hanging as a handle on your left. You follow the rope up and across the ceiling to the entrance; clearly this is the release for the trap leading into this room. Good thing you didn't follow that little bastard in here!
As Bamur mentions a light source for those not gifted with darkvision, he sees Tagagashi pulling a hooded lantern from his gear and setting it up on the table. Zoogore wipes a scuff from the blade of his scythe as Suki, already at the door, uses the new source of light to begin examining it ...
Tagagashi, don't forget to track your oil usage, just approximately.
Your search of the door finds it both untapped and unlocked.
Kiþ Bendybrook |
That's far enough Mr. Bigglesworth. We've seen all we need to down here. Let's rejoin the others, he adds as he turns back down the tunnel. The glowing figure overtakes the sorcerer and returns to the room where the others still stand around a closed door.
A moment after, Kip re-emerges as well. Nothing to report other than a rope to trigger the ceiling collapse. Turning to address Bamur directly, he adds a hearty, Thank you Master Dwarf and your keen eye. I for one certainly appreciates not being squished flat!
Suki Yumio |
Turning from the door, Suki replies. This door is unlocked and it seems to be fine, trap wise, but I think I might've heard something creaking from behind it. Suki steps away from the door and heads towards the hall entrance (MA to O14). As for these doors, they also seem to be clear of traps. I heard something crying from a locked one, and a conversation which I cannot decipher from an unlocked door. She explains, peaking from around the corner. Anyone care to have a listen?
Mythandor Arathorn |
I just stated that I speak Goblin yes.
Do you think the Goblin's have something interesting to say? Sweeping his hand in the direction of two of the slain Goblins he continues, One of these two was sleeping and the other was piling food in its ear.
If I had to guess, I'd say the creaking sound you hear beyond this door is probably that of a bow being drawn. We haven't exactly been quiet here on this side. They are ready for us.
The crying behind a locked door is most likely a prisoner of some kind. Could you hazard a guess as to what kind of creature it was that you heard?
The door with the Goblin's chatting. Maybe they haven't heard us yet.
So the decision is, door number one with the likely ambush waiting on the other side. Door number two, locked with someone crying within. Or door number three, more Goblin's who may or may not yet know we are here.
What are all your thoughts?
Mythandor Arathorn |
I would suggest cracking the door open first and taking a look. Should provide significant cover* against any attacks forthcoming. Alternatively, Kip could make himself or myself invisible, open the door and then move in and use magic to take out as many of them as we can while everyone else charges in after.
Looking over at Tagagashi and Zoorgore, he adds a third option. Or just open the door and charge in, consequences be damned.
Which would you like to try?
* Improved cover, for +8 to AC

TAGAGASHI
The samurai looks over to the scythe-wielder and smirks, I think Zoogore and I would prefer the third option. Tagagashi picks his shield up, and adjusts it back onto his arm. As he walks to the door he draws his sword and raises his shield, Same procedure as last time, you ready? Knowing his friend is always ready for anything, The swordsman kicks the door in...

As the group narrows their options down to three choices, the samurai picks his choice and immediately sets to action. With a sharp, booted thrust forward, Tagagashi sends the tattered remains of the door scattering across the floor in front of him. Immediately he is face to face with another pair of the dirty little creatures, both of which already have bows drawn and aimed. Suki and Kip are the quickest of the companions to respond to this new threat ...

At their current volume, Mythandor has no problem hearing what the goblins are saying:
"Stop them fool! He will take our heads!!!"
... The arrow flies true but strikes the swordsman's shield and falls away harmlessly. A moment behind the first, another arrow sails at the lead intruder as the assailant leaps off the table for a better line of sight (MA to S, 16) ...
Goblin (YGREEN) vs Tagagashi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

The words were barely out of Tagagashi's mouth as Zoogore squeezes his mass through the door and zeroes in on the second archer. The hulking half-orc heaves his scythe, with tremendous force behind it, aiming to make sure no more arrows are sent into the air ...
Zoogore vs Goblin (YELLOW): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
... Grimacing as his blade takes a piece out of the wall, but not the goblin, Zoogore retracts his weapon so as not to leave himself open to the little bastard. I gotta remember how quick these little dirtbags are, next one is getting stuffed in a corner first ...

The first two through the door engage the enemies viscously. Tagagashi dropping his opponent with a single grisly opening through its mid section, followed a moment later by Zoogore's scythe narrowly missing it's target. Having made short work of his target, Tagagashi steps back to give his partner room to work, making sure to take the opportunity to give him a hard time.
Both Kip and Mythandor move further into the room to be in a better positions to launch an attack. The halfling, not having to travel as far, manages to get a shot off but misses his mark.
Being unconcerned for their companions, in dealing with the remaining threat, gives the two rearguards a chance to check the rest of the open area around them. Under Bamur's watch, Suki grabs the lantern off the table and sneaks down the corridor again, this time going further to see what the rest of the room looks like. She finds rubble and sharpened sticks barricade the northern entrance to this curved room, and a thin wall runs down the room’s middle. A closed door is set in the southern wall of the room.
Back at the battlefront, Zoogore takes the ribbing from Tagagashi and swings again, attempting to make amends for his first effort ...
Zoogore vs Goblin (YELLOW): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage to Goblin (YELLOW): 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
... This time the blade strikes as intended, scything through the goblins arm, severing it in two, before burying itself midway through the creatures torso. Guuh...? With a look of shocked pain, it crumples to the floor.
Combat Over!
As the fighters clean their blades and adjust their gear, they get a chance to take a look around the room. Two tables with benches lie scattered around this mess hall. Decaying food of an indescribable nature sits on the tables. At the western end of the chamber, a closed door exits to the south.
Tagagashi |
Tagagashi looks around the room, and rubs his chin, thinking. Now that we have cleared this room, we should clear the one across from the locked door; that way we would be able to investigate that crying without the worry of an ambush. Let us regroup in the corridor. The samurai makes his way back to the halls, and stops, facing the doors where conversation was heard, minding the noise of his movements.
