Now recruiting one new player to join an existing quartet at the launch of Sun Divers, Chapter 3 of the Dawn of Flame adventure path. This is a great jumping on point for new players, and the premise of this particular run is that you're all members of a scientific expedition from Near Space that has arrived to survey the Pact Worlds' sun.

Example Near Space races include Branneri, Damais, Dromada, Embri, Espraka, Ghoans, Hobgoblins, Ijtikris, Osharus, Pahtras, Phentomite, Skittermanders, Telia, and Vesk, though other races specifically mentioned as originating in Near Space will be considered.

The role in the expedition team that needs to be filled is Lead Biologist/Team Medic. The new character will start at Level 4 with 7,500 XP. The only commitment I ask, and that I'll promise in return, is to finish the chapter. For those who play SFS, I will provide a Chronicle at the completion of the chapter.

If you're interested, please post here. I'll leave the thread open for a week and then choose from among those who have put their hat in the ring.

------------------------
The advertisement on that infosphere site sounded intriguing: Applicants wanted for scientific research expedition. Only candidates with backgrounds in life science, medicine, psychology, or xenobiology will be considered. Extensive, prolonged travel required. Click the info-link to complete a preliminary questionnaire. It was all a bit mysterious, but perhaps that only added to the allure.

After filling out the questionnaire, and a few follow-up forms, the notification came: you passed the initial screening! The message was accompanied by a free ticket to Pabaq, the university planet of the sluglike osahrus. And, for the first time, you finally learned what the expedition was all about. Several academic and government research institutions had jointly funded the first Near Space expedition to study the Pact Worlds’ sun! Apparently, however, the expedition had hit a few snags, and a replacement member was needed.

But now, the hard part. Here you are in Jhavom (Pabaq’s capital), sitting in a chair in the middle of a conference room in the research facilities of the Advanced Institute of Heliodic Studies. Facing you, seated at a long table, are a panel of esteemed academics, project managers, budget experts, and more. Although several of the interviewers are osharus, a sprinkling of others--even a Vesk--are here as well. There were several other applicants in the waiting room before you were called in, so it’s clear the competition to become the expedition's Lead Biologist/Field Medic is taken extremely seriously. But why? Could there somehow be life in the Pact World's sun? Could the expedition team really face such danger that they it requires its own field medic?

”Ahem,” begins one of the panel members, a frail-looking elderly damais with greying hair. ”Applicant, would you please state your name, qualifications, and experience relevant to fieldwork of this nature?”

Any takers yet?

I have an idea but I have not done anything starfinder since first released.

I have a human mystic that is a former military field medic turned researcher

I will have to adjust the character a bit to fit the requirements

I am not looking for SFS credit

Question, how are you doing stats?

@Edward Sobel: No takers yet. All stats are per Core Rulebook standard point buy.

Ok. Is human ok? It's my usual go to race.

The premise of this campaign is that it's all specifically races that originate in Near Space. Take a look at some of the example races in the first post in this thread--hopefully one of them will spark some interest.

Nothing really sparking any interest may have to contemplate on thus a bit

Let me take a moment and give this recruitment a quick bump. I'm having a ball playing Hani, my Telia mechanic in this game. We have a great, attentive GM and three other active players who put quite a bit of time into this adventure path.

I hope many of you will consider submitting a character. I know there are several of you looking for this type of opportunity. Please jump in with a character idea!

Dark Archive

I have been looking at this recruitment, but is the only class you are looking for Mystic? Or is there some other class that can heal? There seems to be a lot of ways to know about Biology, not so many ways to be a primary medic unless something is in the game that I don't know about.

I would think envoy or biohacker may be good choices here (along with mystic). Heck, there are even possibilities with the new nanocyte class to be a good medic/healer/biologist.

Would a Meliophile Mystic work?

@Malinor & phaeton_nz: Hani has it exactly right. The in-game role in the expedition team is Lead Biologist/Team Medic. How you fill that role in a game mechanics sense isn't restricted, as there are a ton of class (and multiclass) ways to be good at Life Sciences and contribute to healing. So, please feel free to be creative (and to role-play your response to the elderly damais' question in the first post, as more than anything, quality RP will be the deciding factor if there are more than one applicants).

Introducing Jack, the Mystic Dromada. If chosen, I'll get the alias ready and I hope to stay with you not only for book 3, but for the rest of the series.

My Credentials, I can not only heal my allies, but I'm also trained in medicine, but remove conditions and even inflict some conditions on the enemy or Confuse them with my utility spells. I also have combat casting in case I'm force to case spells in melee, especially healing spells, nothing like getting hit while trying to heal people. The name is Jack and I've got years of experience. I'm also fast and hard to catch.

@DoubleGold: Thanks, that's a solid start. Do you have a bit about the character's background and personality?

@Everyone: I'll extend recruitment until Friday if you want to get a submission in, then I had better make a choice and start the adventure.

Wasn't sure how you wanted the background given we are above level 1 and that would have to include some adventuring.

Born on Castrovel, Jack lived among the wild, the animals. But the wild meant danger. Danger everywhere he turned. Everyone did their part, some hunted for food, others kept the dangerous animals away, others were on the lookout for Azlanti. Jack's job, since they all lived in the wild with little transportation was to learn medicine and healing. Since they were away from civilization most of the time, they had to learn how to take care of their own. Jack learned not only healing spells, but some good offensive spells, defensive spells and tricks to confuse the enemy. He also learned the wildlife and about the jungle world around him. He had to put down quite a few wild animals in his time and other tribes that tried to raid his tribe. When he got older, he decided to move to the more civilized part of Castrovel, since they had multiple healers where he use to live anyhow. Spaceships and other vehicles he rarely got to see, now he saw an abundance of. He could travel to the Sun one day he thought. But he knew very little about it, only that maybe he might burn up if he traveled there. So he got a job working as a healer on spaceships. There he learned how space travel works. He studied the Sun while on these spaceships and wanted to know if it was possible to go there. Most people told him it was impossible, others told him that only with the best equipment would it be possible, but other than the heat, the other danger was the radiation from the Sun. When people told him civilizations live there on the Sun, others doubted them and said they were nuts. Jack was bound to find out someday, even if it meant burning up in the Sun, he wanted to know for himself.

Jack values exploration, finding other civilizations, and loves to help. He is an easygoing explorer type who wants to find out what is here. He loves to study things. He is not much of a talker though, but he can deceive the deceivers and lie when he needs too.

”Ahem,” begins one of the panel members, a frail-looking elderly damais with greying hair. ”Applicant, would you please state your name, qualifications, and experience relevant to fieldwork of this nature?”.

The next to rise from the chair is a gloomy duergar. His skin is dark gray, his beard is absolutely white and his eyes carefully look around the audience.

- Name's Tulgram. Ahem... Tulgram Coldforge. Biohacker. I specialize in catching dangerous creatures. Harmless to them and extremely beneficial to us. From a scientific point of view, of course.

Duergar frowns at the floor. It seems that he is not completely sure what to say next in such cases, but continues to grumble.

- My people believe that only the most hard work gives results. It doesn't matter how many attempts. And methods are not always important either. Only perseverance is important. You can rely on me for that. And of course, my knowledge of medicine and various sciences is second to none, do not even doubt it. I studied it very hard and with live examples.

He plops back into his chair, his heavy armor suit rattling slightly. Next to him is leaning against the wall his faithful companion - the capture pole.

________

So, my character is a duergar biohacker in heavy armor, who perfectly proficient in melee weapons. There is very little information about duergars in the SF lore, but we can say for sure that they went into space and that they do not live in the Pact Worlds. So, somewhere they have their own world (planet or asteroid), and one of them could have arrived here.

Technically, in combat, he combines debuff and quite tangible melee damage. In addition, his weapon allows him to effectively grab enemies, keeping them at a distance at the same time. This is the perfect way to catch slaves for gray-skinned dwarves, and now - to catch test subjects for Tulgram. Outside of combat, he practices classical (non-magical) medicine and is an expert in physical and life sciences.

Tulgram came here in search of fame, success and new knowledge. The culture of his people encourages not so much invention as the theft of new ideas. And a unique expedition deep into the sun to unknown races can give access to unique technologies... Plus the sun itself does not frighten him. "Ya think we did not see the fire and did not stand at the melting furnace? Ha!"

And few words about myself. I am a venture agent from Moscow, Russia, who is actively developing the Starfinder direction here. I use different opportunities to play in English (both on the Warhorn and here), and this one seems to me just fine. I'm going to GM 1st and 2nd books as standalone modules IRL in Moscow, so I'll catch up on the plot very quickly. I have experience of playing some AP books entirely in PbP (the fourth book of Dead Suns, for example), and I will be happy to walk with you not only this book, but the whole path.

Silver Crusade

((I'm going to let this go .... been too busy lately IRL))

@DoubleGold: Great, thanks for the background.

@Tulgram: Thanks, interesting character!

@phaeton_nz: No worries, thanks for considering it.

Everyone, I'll wait another 18 hours and then I better make a call, so if you haven't submitted yet, now's the time! That sun needs exploring!

Still needs to be advanced in level, but if you'll have an android biohacker taking accumulated vacation hours and getting wrapped up in this, I'd be happy to join.

"Aktil Sharpknife, working towards a PhD in xenobiology. Experienced in field research in a variety of environments and served as a combat medic in my younger years."

Aktil was big and solidly built, hardly unusual for a vesk, wearing simple utilitarian armour and a tabard decorated with a few sigils denoting prominent achievements and campaigns. It was a sparse scattering thus far, but then, he was still young yet.

---------------------------

So, I've been turning a few concepts over in my head and have arrived at a vesk academic. Naturally, given that vesk social advancement centres on the performance of mighty deeds, any ambitious academic is going to hone their combat abilities, and Aktil's studies into the life sciences tie in well with his talents as a vanguard. What is life, after all, but a systemic harnessing of entropy?

I'll need a bit of time to organise a character sheet, and I've left it too late to get it done before the deadline, but I'm thinking a scholar theme, medic archetype and inversion aspect will cover the lead biologist and team medic aspects nicely.

If there are any shipboard roles in need of filling, I may be able to include the relevant skills, depending on the role.

My sincere thanks to everyone who submitted. I love seeing new character ideas, and I really hate having to choose between them! I agonised over the decision. In the end, the applicant that best fit the Near Space brief and came up with an interesting (and slightly creepy!) character was Tulgram Coldforge. Tulgram, please make your way to Gameplay, as I'll be putting the introductory post up momentarily.

@Jack, Goldeneye, and Aktil Sharpknife: Again, I really do appreciate the submissions. If someone drops out early in the chapter, or we need a replacement at the beginning of Chapter Four, I'll keep you in mind.

Whoa! Thank you! I am very pleased, and I will be honest, I did not expect this. Looking at the other characters presented, I understand how difficult it was for you to choose.

I will enter the game on Monday, the weekend is very tightly scheduled.

UPD: However, I will try to technically create a character before that time. Purchasing by level, as in the core book?

@Tulgram: Sounds good, thanks.
