ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12 Sturmvanger v Red Passed
Morvuul's shot basically destroys Red. With that one gone, Gava is able to act.
((Waiting on Sturmvanger and Gava))
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava starts working on green!
Survival to trick attack: 1d20 + 17 - 20 ⇒ (20) + 17 - 20 = 17
CR 17 creatures and bellow are tricked!
Static arc pistol vs. flat-footed EAC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Electricity damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Trick electricity damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Very tricky, but not very 'attacky'
Sturmvanger |
"No doubt guardians put here by Datch. Or something left by someone hoping to get revenge on her," Sturmvanger calls out.
He steps up to green, since red has been handled, extends his bone blade and jabs it at what he hopes is a weak spot.
Heavy Bone Blade: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Piercing: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11
phaeton_nz |
And both of them just miss.
Green lashes out with a tendril at Sturmvanger since he stepped up and tried to poke it.
tendril: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 acid: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Everyone is up.
Don't forget the reflex save if you're in the sticky zone on your turn
Khubelu |
Green's turn for a Get 'Em.
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13 vs. EAC
Fire Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava keeps the heat on green:
Survival to trick attack: 1d20 + 17 - 20 ⇒ (1) + 17 - 20 = -2
CR -2 creatures and bellow are tricked!
Static arc pistol vs. EAC: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 = 24
Electricity damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Damn it all
Sturmvanger |
Refl: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Sturmvanger doesn't watch his footing and gets tangled up in the sludge at his feet. A rookie mistake that he quietly berates himself for.
He focuses his defensive abilities to mitigate any damage he takes before attacking again.
Heavy Bone Blade (entangled): 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8
Piercing: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Activating my Battlemaster ability so I get DR1/- for the next 4 rounds.
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas raises Bii again and feeling lucky throws an inhibitor into the shot as well. Seeing that two of the hardest hitters in the group both shot electricity damage she adds a mixture of retroviruses that pushes an organism to start producing extra electricity conducing liquids, making them easy to shock to bits.
BioBolter ‘Bii’ (Castrolance) vs EAC: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14
Acid Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
If hit, vulnerability to Electricity added to green as well.
phaeton_nz |
Green: -10 and vulnerable to electricity
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, sees that his plasma guide would be more effective than his needler pistol against the creature, so he puts his hand back on his rifle, activates its wireless telemetry, Move action to use the guided weapon property and negate the target's cover bonus. and fires.
Plasma Guide - Entangled + Get 'Em vs. Red EAC: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 11
Electricity/Fire Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Behold, as I eliminate the second one!" declares Morvruul with considerable confidence.
Bluff to Trick v red: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 4 = 21
Ranged (tactical semi-auto pistol) v green, Get'em: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 1 = 14
Damage (P): 1d6 ⇒ 2
Add Trick Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
phaeton_nz |
Cha'mon Cha'mon misses and, much to his chagrin, Morvruul also misses I presume that was versus KAC
Green lashes out at Sturmvanger again.
tendril: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 acid: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Cha'mon's ref save ref: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 - Still entangled but not stuck fast. You can make another ref save as a move action on your turn to get unstuck - same for Sturmvanger.
Everyone is up.
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas takes aim at the red enemy now, trying to take down the mollusk before it can hurt someone further.
BioBolter ‘Bii’ (Castrolance) vs EAC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Acid Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Morvruul the Merchant |
Cha'mon Cha'mon misses and, much to his chagrin, Morvruul also misses I presume that was versus KAC
Correct.
Morvruul fires.
Bluff to Trick v red: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 4 = 18
Ranged (tactical semi-auto pistol) v green KAC, Get'em: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage (P): 1d6 ⇒ 6
Add Trick Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Then, turns the gun towards himself, looking down its barrel in an effort to identify flaws, as he can find no other satisfactory explanation for his poor shooting.
phaeton_nz |
Sorry Seggas. I forgot to take Red off the map
Green: -14
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, re-calibrates the wireless telemetry on his plasma guide guided and fires again.
Plasma Guide - Entangled + Get 'Em vs. Green EAC: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 13 Guided negates green's cover bonus.
Electricity/Fire Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Does Cha'mon Cha'mon, need to make reflex saves if he is outside of the 10' radius of the anemone? He failed the save in the first round, but he moved out of the anemone's 10' radius also that round. In round 2 he was out of the 10' radius, but I assumed he was still entangled. I also assumed the same thing for round 3. His attacks in round 2 and 3 might hit if not for the entangled penalty.
Khubelu |
'Em are got, then shot.
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 = 22
Fire Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava keeps tricking and shooting from his safe spot:
Survival to trick attack: 1d20 + 17 - 20 ⇒ (20) + 17 - 20 = 17
CR 17 creatures and bellow are tricked!
Static arc pistol vs. flat-footed EAC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Electricity damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Trick electricity damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
What is going on...
Sturmvanger |
Refl: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Sturmvanger remains hampered by the sludge surrounding his feet. He doesn't let that stop him, though and tries to crack open the mollusk with his bone blade, again.
Heavy Bone Blade plus Get 'Em minus Entangled: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 22
Piercing: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9
phaeton_nz |
And that last volley of shots, and stabs, destroys Green
=== Combat over ===
The shell of one of the ghelarns is suitable for modifying into hardened resin armour
Fortunately, the smallest green pools were impossible for the ghelarns to enter. You can climb into them and perform Kyefi’s procedure. This requires a successful Life Science, Sleight of Hand, or relevant Profession check. You can attempt individual checks or aid another. Each success results in one sample.
Gava Son of Emer |
Physical Science: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Gava learns nothing.
"Let me try my hand at this business. Bizarre organisms are my specialty!"
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon, Cha'mon, reloads his rifle and then tries his luck at grabbing a sample also.
Slight of Hand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Sturmvanger |
Sturmvanger doesn't have much to add in this situation. As the others are working on plucking the keys, he retracts his blade and pulls out his reaction cannon, circling the group and watching the horizon for trouble.
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas's eyes light up at the dead mollusks. "SOOO MUCH GENETIC MATERIAL!"
She immediately starts to pull off the mollusk shells. Phy sci: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
She fails to get it off cleanly, however.
Khubelu |
Unless Khubelu can dance the sample out, she can't help here.
phaeton_nz |
You get two samples - more than enough. As you get them, your comm units buzz as you receive a voice call.
Kyefi’s voice suddenly breaks the silence. Err, folks... you should really be getting on your way. There’s some foul weather up in the west, and the tide is coming in faster than the original forecast showed. I suggest you leave. Right now!
Modified Chase scene. First - you need to exit the basin to get to your vehicles by succeeding at an Athletics Check to Climb. If you have a fly or climb speed you automatically succeed. If at least half of you succeed, you can help the rest ascend fast enough. Failure means the tide is one step closer to you
Khubelu |
<I fear not the tide, but will assist you as I am able.>
Don't suppose I could just wait and then swim home?
Athletics: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Time to go." suggests Morvruul.
Athletics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
However, he does not get very far.
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava's klikharp easily overcomes the obstacle with its climbing speed, while carrying the ysoki on its back.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, begins climbing his way out of the basin.
Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
phaeton_nz |
Two successes and two failures so far.
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Athletics check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Seggas gives climbing a try, but as soon as she 2 feet off the ground just hollers psychically and out loud, <<"STURM">>
I believe our big dragonkin has a fly speed.
phaeton_nz |
He does so that's an equal number of successes and failures. That is just enough that everyone gets up to the vehicles in one chase phase
There is a mad scramble to get up the ridge and into the vehicles. Fortunately the fliers are able to assist those in difficulty so everyone gets into their buggies quickly, along with the samples and gear.
Buggy A - Gava is driving
Buggy B - Cha'mon Chamon is driving
Who else is in which buggy? - and I am assuming there is a coral key in each buggy.
The tide is in Zone 1, You are in Zone 7.
Chase Rules as printed in the Module:
During the Pilot Actions Phase, PC drivers choose pilot actions as normal, but only the Evade, Keep Pace, and Speed Up actions are relevant in this phase. Because they’re ahead of the tide, the drivers receive a +2 circumstance bonus to their Piloting checks. The level of the PCs’ vehicle is 2. The tide doesn’t take pilot actions.
In the Chase Progress Phase, the PCs advance 1 zone as normal (assuming they succeed during the Pilot Actions Phase); after that the tide moves ahead 3 zones.
If the tide reaches the same zone as a vehicle, the vehicle is destroyed. The PCs’ armour allows them to survive with bruises and scratches, and within a few hours rescue crews dispatched by Kyefi pick them up. However, any coral keys in that vehicle are shattered.
In the Combat Phase, instead of fighting enemy vehicles, passenger PCs can take actions to help speed up their vehicle. They can use any skill as long as they come up with an idea that could be useful, such as using Computers for satellite navigation, Diplomacy to encourage the driver, or Athletics to provide counterweight to the vehicle during sharp turns. Encourage the players to be creative!
Each chase round, each passenger PC can attempt one such check. When a PC succeeds with a particular skill, that PC cannot use it again for the rest of the chase, but other PCs can attempt that skill.
If a PC succeeds this DC by 5 or more, it counts as 2 successes. PCs can assist other vehicles by donating the success of a skill check they’re about to attempt. At the GM’s discretion, expending a resource such as a relevant spell gem can also count as an automatic success.
Keep track of the number of passenger successes per vehicle during the chase. Each time the number of successes in a vehicle reaches the number of passenger PCs, the vehicle moves 1 zone ahead. For example, a vehicle with four PCs has one pilot and three passengers, so it needs only three successes to move up 1 zone.
So .. Chase Scene - Phase 1 - Action.
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava speeds up the buggy towards zone 9!
Piloting: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 + 2 = 31
"Hold on to your hats!"
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas and Sturm would be traveling together in one of the two buggies, otherwise... Anyone want someone who is liable to start replacing parts of the buggy with biomatter engineered to replace them?
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, slams his foot down on the accelerator of the buggy.
"Hold on to your butts."
Piloting (Speed Up): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26
Kneepuncher |
The partners should be with Gava, because a big dragon will fit better with a small pilot. Kneepuncher will therefore join Cha'mon.
Kneepuncher leans out of the passenger-side window and shouts out whenever he sees an avoidable obstacle ahead.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Sturmvanger |
As they dash before the oncoming wave, Sturmvanger keeps glancing back at it's approach. His wings spread instinctively in defense but then he realizes he can use that.
As they rush toward a depression in the ground, he actually stands up, grabbing the roll bar and jumps, spreading and flapping his wings to give it just a little lift so that it can skirt over the hole.
Athletics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Gava Son of Emer |
Kneepuncher leans out of the passenger-side window and shouts out whenever he sees an avoidable obstacle ahead.
I was wondering why we never saw Khubelu and Kneepuncher in the same place, at the same time...
Morvruul the Merchant |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Morvruul rushes for a seat next to Seggas only to find the dragonkin has taken his seat.
Releasing an audible huff, he turns to get into the other vehicle, only to find that it is piloted by Chamon Chamon. The witchwyrd considers walking for a moment, but upon catching sight of the approaching wave decides he will have to learn to live with some (more!) indignation.
Not being very athletic and certainly not feeling a desire to encourage the damai driver, Morvruul resorts to backseat driving. Pulling up coordinates on his comm from satellite navigation, he begins barking orders.
Computers: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"Turn left!" he demands, waving one of two left arms. "Not that left!" he tries correcting with a second left arm, "This left!'
Khubelu |
Oops... got my characters mixed up. KP vanishes back into whatever void he emerged from.
Khubelu stares at the waves for a moment, as if she wishes she could be among them, but then realizes that swimming in and being crushed by water
are two very different things.
<Cha'mon, your skill as a pilot has been a great benefit for us, and I am confident you will help us escape this predicament.>
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (16) + (6) + 7 = 29
phaeton_nz |
I don't see any failures other than Kneepuncher - who should be on Vesk-6 at this time - I'm blaming any witchwarpers about - so Chamon's buggy reaches zone 8 while Gava manages to get into Zone 9. The tide advances to Zone 4.
Details of each zone are in the slides
Chase Scene - Phase 2 - Action.
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
I'm still going to roll for Round 1
Seggas starts to pull out a small ball of biomater and places it on top of the engine of the buggy. After a moment it starts to spread over the engine, taking in the design of it before it starts to build a duplicate of the device, but formed from hardened biomatter instead of metal. It then integrates into the drive system and adds some extra oomph to the buggy.
Life sciences: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
She gives a small cackle as the process seems to work, but not as well as she could have hoped for. She frowns over the newly created 'engine' and decides to give it a physical to see if there's nothing she could do to help boost his performance.
Medicine: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
"Buckle your seatbelt Morvruul or you just may find yourself swimming your way home."
Cha'mon Cha'mon, violently turns the steering wheel so that the buggy swerves to the side Morvruul is on.
"You said left didn't you."
Pilot (Speed Up): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 = 15
Khubelu |
<I wouldn't mind a nice swim, though this doesn't seem the best time. Hey - watch out for those rocks!>
Piloting, Evade: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Gava Son of Emer |
Gava takes his time and keeps pace to move to zone 10:
Piloting DC 12: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 13 + 2 = 22
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Buckle your seatbelt Morvruul or you just may find yourself swimming your way home."
Cha'mon Cha'mon, violently turns the steering wheel so that the buggy swerves to the side Morvruul is on.
"You said left didn't you."
Morvruul bangs a pair of elbows on the side of the buggy, which he begins to run with his remaining arms. He curses inaudibly at Chamom Chamom, as he begins looking for the seatbelt. Upon realizing that his seat is not equipped with one, he curses inaudibly again.
He scans the approaching wave. We are all going to die.
"Keep driving, Chamon Chamon! I have nothing, but the utmost confidence in you!" he shouts, trying to sound encouraging.
Bluff: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Sturmvanger |
"If you allow so much as one hair on Seggas head to be harmed by your incompetence I will pluck every one of yours off your body with a pair of tweezers," Sturmvanger warns Gava.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
I thought we were in zone 9. Cha'mon Cha'mon's action should have been an evade. I thought a successful speed up would get us to zone 9?
Gava Son of Emer |
"I'll put a saddle on you and ride you around yet, dragon!" Gava retorts, used to dealing with big angry beasts!
