DESCRIPTION:

Sarhunas is tall and wiry. His skin has an unnatural reddish complexion, mostly smooth with some rough, scaly patches on his back and arms. His facial features are very proportionate and youthful, in stark contrast to his more fiendish traits. His long hair is coal black, and he sports a neatly trimmed goatee. His large eyes are disturbingly cold and grey. Two red-black, goat-like horns sprout out of his forehead, and his legs are hooved and covered in coarse black hair like those of a goat. A scaly, hairless tail constantly twitches and sways behind him. Sarhunas proudly wears the heavy, crimson robes of a Hellknight Signifier. The vortex-like pattern on the otherwise featureless metal mask that covers his face marks him as a member of the feared Order of the Gate. Underneath his robes the tiefling wears a regal-looking half-plate of darkened steel, decorated with red infernal symbols and the unholy symbol of Asmodeus. On his belt he carries a spiked mace and a wicked-looking sacrificial dagger. There always seems to be lingering smell of smoke about the hellspawn.

Despite his unnerving appearance, Sarhunas's general demeanor is very calm and composed. His manners are impeccable, and he rarely loses his temper. Truly cold and callous, he sees himself above such base emotions as anger or frustration. He secretly delights in simultaneously confirming and subverting other's expectations of tieflings, openly flaunting the symbols of his faith while avoiding blatantly evil behaviour. In fact, while extremely pragmatic, he is not particularly cruel or sadistic. He is willing and able to work with people of different faiths and philosophies, as long as it suits his needs and does not oppose the goals of Asmodeus, His church, the Hellknight Order of the Gate, or the Empire of Cheliax (in that order). He dislikes needless killing, especially good or chaotic people who have yet to accept might and magnificence of the Lord of Hell. Every mortal who is thusly killed is one more soul wasted on the lesser divinites. Those who are willing should be converted. The weak-willed can be manipulated into serving the powers of Hell unknowingly. If this fails, obstacles should be handled quickly and efficiently. Big, flashy battles are a waste of time.

Sarhunas truly and wholeheartedly believes in the core doctrines of Asmodeus. In his mind, bringing about His infernal order is Golarion's only hope of true, lasting peace. Chaos needs to be stamped out with an iron fist, and the weak should be made to serve the strong. He does not think all of this will come to fruition during his lifetime, and prefers to plan things on the long run. Even though Sarhunas bears no love for his country for all the discrimination and contempt he has had to endure from other, pure-blooded Chelaxians, he understands the empire's importance to Asmodeus's plans on Golarion. Further, working within the Pathfinder Society is an excellent way of amassing personal wealth and power. Sarhunas knows he is intended for greatness, and he is not about to return home empty-handed.

BACKGROUND:

First memories Sarhunas has of his childhood are from the slums of Westcrown, the decaying former capital of Cheliax. He has no recollection of his real parents, likely having been abandoned at a very young age to fend for himself. He remembers having to resort to stealing and violence to survive dangerous streets of Parego Dospera, the ruined northern section of the city. These years of desperate struggle have since blurred together in his mind, and Sarhunas is not fond of thinking back on his former weakness.

His salvation came from an elder priestess of Asmodeus named Eulalia, who took him under his wing for reasons that are still somewhat unclear to the tiefling. His kind were not exactly rare in Westcrown, and Sarhunas is still unsure of what made the priestess take notice of him. He has learnt to think of it as guidance from the Lord of Hell, and further evidence that he is destined for something important. While far from gentle or caring, Eulalia made sure to give Sarhunas the best education she could. In addition to the standard indoctrination to the Asmodean faith, he was extensively schooled in law, the teachings other religions, and knowledge of the Outer Planes and their denizens.

For decades Sarhunas served as a loyal assistant to the old woman, even to the detriment of his advancement within the church. The breaking point in his life came when his mistress presented him with a plan of disposing one of her oldest enemies in the higher priesthood. This was not the first time he had been tasked in aiding in the death of one of Eulalia's enemies, but this time it was different. Sarhunas knew the target had shown no sign of weakness, and was in fact responsible for negotiating many successful trade agreements that had helped to revitalize the local economy. The his death would not serve to do anything but to cause chaos and unneccessary waste of recources in the city, and other settlements that depended on it for trade. The role Sarhunas would have in the plan would be minor, but nonetheless important to the success of the plan.

Conflicted, the young priest retreated to his chambers and prayed to the Prince of Darkness for guidance. All night he sat in his cell, listening to the whispers within. When he emerged the following morning, his mind was made. He went to the priest that her mistress had marked for death, and revealed everything he knew. Eulalia was quickly detained and judged guilty of treason, among other things. She was to be sacrificed on the altar of Asmodeus, so she could answer for her treachery in the courts of Hell itself. To make sure of his devotion, Sarhunas was commanded by the high priests to be the one who carried out the sacrifice. Sarhunas did as he was bid, and carried out his task without a hint of emotion or hesitation.

Sarhunas was spared, and even commended for revealing Eulalia's plan and saving the city and the clergy a lot of trouble. Yet he was not fully trusted, and his superiors quickly arranged for him to be transferred to Absalom. He was tasked with aiding the Chelaxian faction within the Pathfinder Society. Knowing he had been essentially exiled, he decided to make the best of his situation and relative freedom. He intends return with the power, wealth and influence that he deserves.

DEVELOPMENTS:

During his adventures Sarhunas has developed a liking for Chelish opera and spicy foods.

VANITIES:

Temple (4 PP): Sarhunas is a true believer, spending nearly all of his "free time" between Pathfinder missions supporting the church of Asmodeus however he can. His contributions have earned him a place as a respected member of the clergy. Sarhunas can use Heal to make Day Job rolls. Once per game session, if he has access to an operating temple of Asmodeus, he can have a cleric cast either cure moderate wounds or lesser restoration on himself or one of his allies, free of charge. He must visit the temple to receive this attention.

Armiger (Fame 20, 2 PP) His loyal service to Cheliax has granted Sarhunas admission into the Hellknight Order of the Gate, with the rank of armiger. Drawn in by the promise of magical power and extraplanar knowledge, he has made several trips to their stronghold, Citadel Enferac in Cheliax. Eager to learn the infernal secrets of the signifiers residing there, he sees in the Order a perfect way to amass personal power while carrying out the will of Asmodeus. He gain a +3 bonus on Diplomacy checks made against Hellknights of any order or rank.
