Since the beginning of history, humanity has measured time in ages. Ages of Glory, of Dreams, and even of Great Sorrows mark the human tally of the years, giving a sense of order to the events of past centuries. But one age has yet to occur, an age of darkness, of decay, and of writhing doom. Witty bards and wrathful preachers know it as the Age of Worms, weaving it into the peripheries of their passion plays as a mythic era of destruction that could begin at any time. Astrologers, diviners, and servants of the fates know more. The canniest among them fear that the Age of Worms has already begun.

Re previous ties, Rik has been in Diamond Lake for a few months. He might have heard of Andros, and given his mercantile cover Badabar may have sought him out for clues regarding the stolen gems. Rik also speaks Gnomish. He's unlikely to know Cedric, though.

Thanks for the invite. I'll finish my equipment and spells at lunch later today.

My current background has me passing through town so I wouldn't know anyone although we can adjust that if needed.

I do have religion but limited as a cleric w 10 int. Part of reason I went with human to get a 3rd sp per level.

I took a trait to reduce crafting by 5% to save gold. Maybe I should change to seeker to boost perception and free up a few skill points for other skills. Any thoughts on that?

Badabar might pick up religion next level, but Paladins don't get a lot of skill points.

Badabar probably might have met Rik at Tidwoad's, where he is staying.

It's not a big town, so we've likely crossed paths in the town square.

It's Bad's first trip out in the world on his own, and he's surprised by the wickedness that lurks under the surface in what is supposed to be a civilized part of the world.

The big folk aren't really familiar with smallfolk religion and so they don't really get that Bad is a paladin of Gaerdal Ironhand able to sense evil in the world.

I expect he is underestimated by most humans he meets.

Profile formatted. Badabar is correct, it is a small town, so a gnome, an oread, and a ratfolk would stand out, especially since 92% of population is human so I am sure we would have crossed paths.

Cedric, Perception is the most rolled skill in the game. I would take Seeker as a social trait to make it a class skill. My 2 cents.

My thoughts are that Rik, with his high intelligence and ranks in Spellcraft and Arcana, has interacted and developed a social acquaintance perhaps discussing the arcane arts, with the wizard Allustan, brother of the Lord-Mayor, and widely regarded as the "smartest man in town". Thoughts?

Perhaps Badabar and Cedric have run into each other at a shrine or other religious place?

Definitely agree that Rik would be acquainted with Allustan. I think of Rik as in large part self-taught in alchemy--at least as pertains to the crypt breaker class features--so he's always looking for more information in the field. It's natural for him to seek out wizards and other scholars.

Is anyone else having trouble dotting into gameplay thread? When I click "submit" it responds as if I've clicked "preview". I've tried from my computer and phone and get the same result.

Looking at the magic item creation rules, I realize I've never created high level items where that 5% discount would help. It looks like I can easily create some +1 items in a week (and save about 500 gp) but a +5 item seems unlikely.

As I understand it, take a +5 weapon with a base price of 50k which would take 50 days. If I increase the DC by 5, I can cut it to 25 days but only if that's all I'm doing. If we are out adventuring, it's back to taking 50 days. Even if I create 6 similar items over the course of a year, I will have only saved 15k in gold from the trait. Just from that perspective, it seems more advantageous to take the seeker trait for the boost to perception.

I was able to phantom dot in, and I see that Andros also managed to post. I've occasionally had problems like what you've described, though, and I generally have to start the post over from scratch.
