Does Skip's comprehend languages offer any insight into what the warning may have been?
Kiikarah |
Kiikarah follows as they lead us back to the center chamber. He studies the hidden compartment, as well as the device. "I'm not surprised we were unable to locate this. Quite an ingenious mechanism."
He'll take a recording of the message as well as images of the device.
T'Krunch the Famished |
"Mission accomplished, I'd say." declares T'Krunch once the recording is made. "Er, can anyone help me get some of the feline cuisine back onto the ship?"

Does Skip's comprehend languages offer any insight into what the warning may have been?
It is a general message informing anyone who picks it up that due to geological instabilities the facility has been closed and no further spelunking expeditions will be permitted in the foreseeable future. You get the impression that the message is fairly old.
Eridanus Weatherbee |
"Anyone wants to tag along out of here? No offense, but this place is a dump!" Eridanus offers, oblivious to the language barrier - but he does try to communicate his intentions by speaking loudly and gesticulating a lot.
XperimentalDM |
The locals don't quite seem to understand Eridanus's offer but seem interested in future contact. With all the information you have recovered you head back to your ship and head back to Absalom Station.
Drift travel days: 1d6 ⇒ 5
After five days in the drift you find yourself docking and heading back to the lorespire complex. Shortly after your arrival you are summoned to a debriefing with Guidance. It takes on the same holographic appearance as before and motions for you to sit.
"Please report on your findings. How do you feel the mission went?"
Eridanus Weatherbee |
"It went really smooth and somewhat slow at the start, but then it would get stingy and rough, and bitey and clawey! We also met a new alien species who was responsible for the mysterious broadcast - I tried inviting them over, but no dice. At least we helped them by clearing some of the local dangerous fauna and mindless undead."
T'Krunch the Famished |
"Please report on your findings. How do you feel the mission went?"
"I would have liked a wider meal selection," laments T'Krunch. "The new species invited us to see their beacon, but didn't bother to offer any food."
Kiikarah |
"Yes, definitely a new sentient species - very advanced too. It looks like they've suffered some serious geological events. We should send someone to monitor their planet - make sure it is still safe for them to live on."

The quorlu add to the reports that “Their way of communicating is quite interesting. I have never heard of flashes of light. I am unsure the message was done by them. The society should try to send a team to communicate more with the locals, that’s for sure.”
XperimentalDM |
"We will make a note of this for future assignment. Were you able to get a sense of the purpose of the facility you found?"
Eridanus Weatherbee |
"Probably a tourist trap or something - we found maps, dolls and things like that, souvenirs of sorts. A theme park or museum, even." Eridanus thinks hard.

"Yes, it appears to have once been some kind of recreational spelunking attraction. I suspect that the species we made contact with was once a thriving species there, before some long ago seismic disaster. Based on their patchwork clothing and overall desperate nature, I would hazard a guess that they were perhaps the descendents who have survived all these years underground. Or perhaps it was their interest in the necromantic that brought on their end. A vile practice! Bah!"
XperimentalDM |
"Hmm interesting. You have all proven yourselves quite handily. You gathered a substantial amount of data from your expedition and were even ale to provide a hypothesis supported by same. On top of that you made peaceful first contact with the native people. I would day you passed this test with flying colors. I would like to officially offer you one of the societies sub-dermal implants. They are optional of course and free of charge. Rest up. I am certain the Venture Captains will have another assignment for you soon."
