Eventually, the Wanderstar reaches its destination: the system that holds Khyyros and its two neighboring planets. You must fly for a few additional hours to reach orbit around the planet that is the source of the mysterious signal. Scans of the world show that it has an atmosphere breathable for most life forms (including Pact worlds species) and shows signs of life (both plant and animal). The computer can’t determine if the life forms are sapient or not, and there appear to be no telltale signs of known civilization (urban centers, roads, pollution, and the like).
In addition, scans show that cut planet’s surface to be marred by large crevasses across every landmass. These fissures appear relatively new, geologically speaking, no more than a century old.
Before you can land, though, you need to determine the source of the transmission. Computers check please.

"I wonder what metals we could find down there!" voices Eridanus, oblivious.
Kiikarah |
Kiikarah watches as the ship approach Khyyros. "That's quite a view. I look forward to being the first strix to fly on winds of a new planet."
Skip Intro |
Skip is untrained in those newfangled computers.
"I too am eager to set foot on a new world. And I came prepared with my renkroda skin boots. Stylish but understated. At home in the streets of Absolom or the jungles of Castrovel. Rich dark brown leather. Available in men's sizes 7 through 13. Price; 11 credits.
He snaps out of his reverie and glances around the bridge. "How are we making out with a source on the signal?"

The crew is having a hard time triangulating the single. Looks like you need to spend some more time studying the signal.
you are going to need to try again on the computers checks.

"I prefer working with microwaves than these types of signals," comments T'Krunch as he tries again.

Ok much better. Those bonuses are well but those dice rolls were oof
You are able to determine the likely source of the signal. It seems to be coming from a cave system in a marshy area of the planet. You are easily able to land the ship. What seems like solid ground at first gives way as your ships landing gear sinks about half a foot into the marsh. You can make any advances preparations you need to before leaving the ship. You must wade through swampy water to reach the cave entrance, located on a rise at the edge of the marsh. The tunnel is damp and smells of rotting mushrooms. You follow the save tunnel for a few minutes...
XperimentalDM |
The cavern opens up at the bottom of a set of natural stone steps to reveal a metal structure situated within the stone. Gaping holes from age or catastrophe pierce the walls to the south and east, revealing constructed chambers within. The rubble covers, and broken stalactites hang from the ceiling.
We are now on slide 4. Feel free to adjust your position. There are no light sources in this room of the cave.
Kiikarah |
Kiikarah with his darkvision will take point (with anyone else who wants to). He will be flying, though not very high (just faster that way). Weapon sheathed.
Eridanus Weatherbee |
Eridanus, also with darkvision and also a vanguard, will take point on the ground - shield in hand.
Skip Intro |
Skip follows along to the rear of the group, with one hand on the left wall. He keeps his personal flashlight in his other hand at the ready, but leaves it off for the time being.
T'Krunch the Famished |
T'Krunch follows in the middle, drawing his syringe just in case.

You notice a broken data pad in the rubble of the first chamber. As you get closer to the NE chamber you are able to get a look inside.
The cavern has collapsed partially into this wide room, greatly reducing its size. Rotting furniture strewn about looks like it might have once been comfortable. A slightly glowing technological cylinder stands in the center of the chamber, clearly once the room’s focal point. Doorways lead south and northeast, though the latter is partially blocked by stone.

"Well, the light source seems a good a destination as any. I know I would certainly appreciate being able to see."
"Light would be good," T'Krunch concurs.
When he sees Kiikarah point out a broken data pad, the ikeshti rushes over to it. He gives it a lick with his forked tongue, then attempts to activate it.

You fold open the cube so that you can access it's display and other controls. You think you understand how it will work, but you will need to charge the battery somehow (possible by transferring power from a comm unit or other personal device). You will need an engineering check to get it working.

T'Krunch attempts to get the datapad humming. "Needs a power source."
XperimentalDM |
You are able to download the one file still accessible on the datapad to another device.
It holds a 3D rendering of a cave system. You think the large circular structure at the top of the map is your current location. There are a number of symbols displayed throughout the map.
I will reveal most of the map since you have found and decoded this device
The flashing symbols aren’t warnings, but are simply informational, and recognizes the image as a kind of map for tourists.

"Oh, and ignore those flashing symbols. They aren’t warnings. Just information. Seems to be a tourist map or some such?" he continues, explaining what he found on the datapad.
He pauses for a moment, that reaches to take it back for a longer look. "Say, I should have checked to see if it indicates locations of refreshment stands."

That would be engineering. It seems like some kind of heating unit. you are kind of surprised that it still has power.

A massive amount of rubble spilled into this chamber through the northeast wall and ceiling, in the process knocking aside several moldering computer desks and piles of broken electronic equipment. Doorways lead north, west, and southeast.

Kiikarah goes over to the old sofa and pulls out whatever is in there.
You find a dirty toy figurine made from plastic and cloth stuffed with foamlike material. The toy resembles a four-eyed bat-headed humanoid wearing a rounded helmet with a lamp and a pair of coveralls with alien writing across the front. The figure holds a plastic climbing axe. There is some writing on the figurine in an alien language.

So it might be moveable but isn't exactly super portable. Like a bigger version of the outdoor heaters some promenade markets or restaurants with outdoor dinning use in winter. Let me know if you still want to try to take it.
