| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Antares manages to flip through comm channels and pick up some chatter on these things. Apparently their laser takes a 10-15 seconds to recharge between blasts (can fire once every 3 rounds). They move with tactical precision, unlike most mindless warbots (are quite smart about lining up their laser shots). They are however, prone to falling apart quickly if partially disintegrated (vulnerable to acid). Unfortunately he spends too much time checking the comm and completely misses the shot.
Popper fires off a shot, splintering a small piece off of one of the incoming robots as the final robot scurries forward and and blasts him and Haldir with it's eye beam.

Thanks for the bot, and sorry for the delay in posting. I went on a short vacation, expecting internet and found none at all! Had a lot of fun, but boy I was jonesing for some pbp gaming! I'll wait to see what the bots do before posting my action for Round 2.
Jchk'hah / Popper
|
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Popper does a weird pirouette type thing, but far less graceful, to dodge the worst of the laser blast.
Haldir Everhath
|
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Takes 2 damage
Haldir will take a full action to shoot Purple twice as he has a clear shot.
Attack 1:
Solar Flare vs Purple EAC: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 4 = 14
Cold Damage + 1 Electrical: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Attack 2:
Solar Flare vs Purple EAC: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 4 = 6
Cold Damage + 1 Electrical: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Haldir picks a new target to begin to pick apart as the horde continues to press their assault. The rear pair of machines scurry forward to fire off their face lasers as the rest fire off small bursts.
Red vs Popper, Full Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 - 4 = 41d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 4 = 3
Orange vs Haldir EAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Green vs Kaladyne EAC, Full Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 191d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 4 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Blue Laser vs Popper, Kaladyne, Twila: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Ref DC 9 for half for Popper, DC8 due to partial cover for Kaladyne and Twila
Purple Laser vs Antares and Pinkie: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Ref DC 9 for half

Kaladyne
|
Seeing the numbers swarm in Kaladyne readies to fall back. For the moment though she drops her smaller weapons in favor of a sniper rifle.
"Dealt a lot of damage, but we need to bring numbers in our favor before they overwhelm us!"
Attack vs Red

Antares-1

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
One of the warbots is very close indeed, and Antares does her best to twist away from the laser blast, but it catches her across her left leg - though it's only a glancing blow. Almost as if in response, the amethyst crystal at her neck glows brightly, causing the circuits that snake across her skin to likewise pulse with power and she steps forward to try and send that energy into the robot!
Melee Touch Attack (Jolting Surge): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 2 = 23 vs Purple Robot's EAC
Jolting Surge Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 3) = 16 electricity
Jolting Surge Crit Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 3) = 13 electricity
Well, let's just keep going to the well, shall we? Using her Spell Cache ability to cast Jolting Surge (even though she has no spell slots left.) Ooh! And it's a crit! Rolled for damage twice, presuming the crit allows her to do so, for a total of 29 damage!

((If Purple is down, he'd keep going and do it to Green))
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Antares-1 high-fives one of the robots into oblivion, and with the path clear, Pinkie moves in to cut down the backline leaving another pile of smoking wreckage.

Reflex DC 8: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
So is half of 1 damage still 1, or is it 0?
We're bunching up again. Not bothering with a trick attack this time (she's really gotta practice her aim after one of those), Twila-5 strides south and sends a shot at the red bot, hoping to end its existence.
Azimuth laser pistol (F): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d4 ⇒ 1
Crit damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Gains the Burning condition: 1d4 fire damage at the start of its turn, Reflex save (DC = 10 + amount of fire damage taken this round) at end of each turn to end burning condition.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Always round down, so half of 1 is 0!
Twila-5 levels her pistol and finishes off the heavily damaged robot. It collapses into a heap and bursts into flames. Hopefully nobody wanted to study that one later.

Reflex DC 9: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Someone yells "Heads up!" as one of the bots fires off another eye beam.
Popper turns and starts to say Wha--? before a laser to the face cuts him off.
Thankfully the bot's beam emitter seems to be faulty because it only singes him around the antennae a bit. Still, it was pain he didn't have to suffer if he'd paid more attention.
I agree with Kaladyne, there's still far too many of these things left for my taste.
He points his azimouth pistol at Orange and fires off a pair of shots.
Time to go crit fishing! Full attack.

Full Round Attack vs Orange as Haldir hits full attunement!
Attack 1:
Solar Flare vs Orange EAC: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 4 = 16

Cold Damage + 1 Electrical: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Haldir fires a pair of blasts off at the approaching robot. The first throws it off its balance just enough to give a clear shot at its chest. The second punches a hold through its carapace, dropping it to the ground. The act appears to cause one of the other robots to register the halfling as a major threat, and it quickly scurries forward to stab at him.
Attack vs Haldir KAC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

With that attack, Haldir is overcome and falls to the ground.

Twila-5
|
The memory of Twila-4's last moment flashes through Twila-5's mind as Haldir falls. He may still be alive! All she can do now is chip away at these bots. She considers slipping back behind the corner, to use a trick attack, but last time she didn't and she actually hit the dang thing. Keep it simple for now. Hit the training course later.
Azimuth laser pistol (F): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d4 ⇒ 2
Antares-1
|
Antares sees Haldir go down, but knows that she would likely only harm him in any attempt to bind his wounds. Instead, the android fires off a shot at the robot then moves in close to engage it. She has one more power source she can tap if need be, but she'll have to get very close indeed to pull it off...
Static Arc Pistol: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 vs blue robot's EAC
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 electrical
Fire a shot (standard action) at blue with no penalties I believe, as the only adjacent ally is unconscious. Move 30' to get within melee reach of the same target.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Twila and Antares begin working on the next target. Slowly and methodically the foe is being removed... one bot at a time.
Antares: There is no penalty for firing into melee in SFS. Only penalty you may have when shooting into melee if you're shooting through an ally's square, in which case they provide cover. The -4 penalty for firing into melee is thankfully gone.
Round 3:
Haldir (-19, KO'd)

Badly wounded and wavering, Popper sees Haldir fall and sighs. No respite for him, he supposes. He steps cautiously away from the robot next to him and places a hand on Haldir's unmoving form, pushing healing magic into him.
Guarded Step, then casting mystic cure on Haldir.
Mystic Cure @Haldir: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Antares dodges the blows and concentrates for a moment, draining the energy from her super-capacity battery to charge one last spell...
Melee Touch Attack (Jolting Surge): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 = 10 vs Yellow Robot's EAC
Jolting Surge Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 6) = 15 electricity
Use Magic Hack (Energize Spell) as a move action and cast Jolting Surge one more time... though I doubt that hits anyway! Thinking Pinkiee might have demolished it with that blow though, so it's probably moot!
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Just realized that Pinkie used an unwieldy weapon which couldn't be used for the AoO... however with everything else that has happened, including the fact that these have EAC of 10, it all works out in the end.
Antares-1 reaches out and transfers charge from his reserves into one last spell, obliterating the final combatant.
Combat over!
With the robots destroyed, the rest of the route to the Lorespire complex is unimpeded. At the Starfinder Society headquarters, it’s immediately clear that a massive battle has just taken place. The charred and crushed remains of robots identical to the ones the you fought in Drifter’s End lay scattered across the lawns and courtyards. Armed Starfinders stand stationed at each entrance to the main building. Many of these guards bear the familiar Exo-Guardians emblem or wear gear and insignia associated with Radaszam’s Obsidian Spiders mercenary outfit. As Starfinders, you all know that these are both factions associated with the Society that actively recruit combat trained agents into their ranks—it’s clear that they have come together to defend the Lorespire Complex in its time of need. These Starfinders nod grimly to the PCs as they pass but are too involved in their tasks to offer further assistance or conversation.
Pinkiee
|
Oh yeah .. doshko ... is there a fusion to fix that?
Oh man .... must have been a heck of a party Pinkiee remarks while keeping an eye open for any more robots. He heads up and into the building in order to report then see if there's anything he can do to help.
Kaladyne
|
"I thought the ones we ran into were dangerous enough, I hadn't thought there be so many of these that made their way in here." Kaladyne matches the nod of the Starfinders her as she tries to go deeper into the Complex to find someone who might accept a report and give some direction in this chaos.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
As Kaladyne searches for someone to give a report, the party is intercepted by an android Popper immediately recognizes as Celita, the leader of the Dataphiles. She’s wearing an armored vest under her usual attire, carries a rifle slung across her back, and is clearly out of breath from physical exertion. (Artwork added to slides)
Celita turns a stoic face to the group. “You must be the Starfinders scheduled to arrive today. It’s impressive that you managed to bridge this distance so quickly. Thanks to your quick reflexes, and to the efforts of a veteran team who helped defend the Complex grounds from those machines, we were able to evade the worst of this attack. The Archives and Guidance remain uncorrupted by the virus—for now.” She pauses, glancing overhead to the patchwork of erratically moving starships visible in the artificial sky. “Most of Absalom Station is still reeling from the attack. There’s currently no way to estimate the full extent of the infrastructure damage. It’s unclear whether Absalom Station was the sole target, or if this is one of many coordinated attacks across our system. As soon as I have more data, I’ll pass it on. Stand by for now.”
Haldir Everhath
|
Haldir nods to the other Starfinders and Celita.
"Thank you ma'am. We did the best we could as quickly as we could! Let me grab a quick nap and I'll be ready to go again to help!"
"It was a pleasure to work with you all and might see you around sometime!" Haldir says to his fellow Starfinders in the party.
Jchk'hah / Popper
|
Popper waves excitedly at his faction leader before realizing she probably has no idea whatsoever who he is. He puts his forelimb back down sheepishly.
I don't know about all you, but I definitely need a rest.
Since no one seems in immediate danger of collapsing, Popper saves his Healing Touch and simply takes a breather.
Spending 10 minutes to regain Stamina. That fight was brutal! Can we please face something with a mind so I can stab it with my brain? DX
Twila-5
|
As Celita strides away, Twila-5 remarks: "I suppose they're too busy now to bother with our original mission. I'll check in with them tomorrow. Does anyone need an escort to get home? Perhaps we should stick to the buddy system for now."
Antares-1
|
Antares already has her computer out to take notes, then glances around as the others disperse. "Oh... it appears we're done here." She wonders briefly what the original mission might have been, then folds up her computer again and leaves with the others. "I will accompany you Twila, if you wish."
She hasn't much opportunity to speak with other Starfinder androids and makes the most of the opportunity - comparing notes on the habits of other species, their own backgrounds and other small talk. It is good practice, she figures, to help blend in with the other Starfinders she will likely be grouped up with in the future.
Pinkiee
|
I'll stay here for a bit Pinkiee says. Just in case another wave comes in - after all, we saw others heading in this direction.
