Game Master Farol

This is a recruitment thread for Q2 Uforgiving Fire. This is a 1-4 non-repeatable quest.

This recruitment is not first-come-first-served, I will keep the recruitment open for at least 1 day (around 22nd of June). The game will start as soon as we have a team.

Organizational stuff:
- Up to 4 players as 2 spots are already reserved. This game is run for WaterySoup lvl 4 PC so higher tier PC's are preferable
- Posting expectancy, 1 post per workday and ideally 1 per weekend (weekend being Saturday/Sunday)

To apply:
- Please make a post using your PC's profile, I will have a look at it. And please respond to the following questions
- How experienced are you in PF2 and PBP?
- Tell me something fun/interesting about the PC that you want to bring?

Other:
- I value role-play, I will be adding bonuses to the skill checks if they are well described, nicely narrated, creative etc. I don't mind people struggling with it, I do mind people not trying.
- The reserve spot goes for WaterySoup (he knows what he did) the second to cmlombue
- If you are an active PF2 GM and you run a game for me, don't be shy and step forwards. I have relatively good avatar memory, but you know ;)

Horizon Hunters

1) I am very experienced with 2e and PbP. However, I am not very experienced in 2e PbP as I have mostly played 2e in person and 1e via PbP.
2) I'll post some backstory for this character here!

Eyovar Jania was born in Ullerskad, a city in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. He never knew his father, but his mother raised him to be the warrior she could not and win glory for their new family name chosen by his mother, Jania. While others may have made fun of Eyovar's surname, he saw an opportunity to start fresh with only his deeds capable of raising his small family out of obscurity. To stand out, Eyovar eschewed weapons and armor save his shield, setting out to battle bandits, hostile raiders, and some of the monsters of the Linnorm Kingdoms. His name grew slightly over time, with some admiring his brutal hand-to-hand style of fighting; others, however, claimed he had gone mad. Regardless, all agreed that his life would be short-lived.

During one of his expeditions, Eyovar came into contact with Pathfinder Agents that offered to recruit him into the society in exchange for his services as a guide in the harsh land he called home. They offered both gold, travel, and, most importantly, dangerous beasts to fight. Seeing this as a natural progression to his goal, Eyovar joined and traveled back to Absalom.

2b) Eyovar is a Monk with the Ulfen Raider background. He has Shield Block, Dragon Stance (hopefully this will change), and Ki Rush. He is more intelligent than you might expect but is direct in everything he does. Currently, I'm considering whether to take Viking or Bastion Dedication. I'll probably mix both together eventually, but I think Bastion offers me more useful abilities than Viking does.

Radiant Oath

Emdi here.

Radiant Oath

Hi, I saw you're still recruiting. I only have level 2 characters available, I hope that's not a problem. I've prepped this Quest before, but not actually run it yet, hope that's okay.

I'm pretty experienced with PbP. I'm currently in two different ones with you (Arlo says hi :P).
This character is mostly GM credit so far, so I haven't really had the chance to flesh him out yet. I have a basic backstory, but most of his character gets fleshed out during play. I do know that I like to play Thrass as an alien mind, like so many sci-fi or fantasy books where lizardfolk are cold and calculated. The not entirely human emotions, different take on life, and so on.

Hello! I have already played this scenario, so I will play a pregen. Which one depends on the rest of the party; I’m comfortable in any role, so I’ll play something to round us out.

- How experienced are you in PF2 and PBP?
I have played PbP for several years, and PF2 for several months.

- Tell me something fun/interesting about the PC that you want to bring?
I like putting my own spin on a pregen. The last time, I played Valeros as a good-natured roughhouser.

@Mitch I saw the discussion in Cottonseed and I think there was confusion to what you asked. Have a read on this. Since you played Q2, you can't play it again and get a chronicle :( I am sorry to bring the bad news.

@Thrass - good to see you. No, the fact that you prepared the quest does not change much. I don't think there are any 'magical fruits in the bushes that if you take and accidentally throw into dragons mouth' make you get all of the prizes ;)

@Eyovar - good to see you, I played with your Gogglez in SFS some time ago ;)

So far we have 3 players. Below I will describe the options and let you comment, and maybe someone shows in the meantime

This game is run for Emdi as he is running a quest for me. On top of that WaterySoup GM'ed plenty of games for me so I am trying to return a favor here.

That said he plays Champion lvl 4 with a Bow (let us nicely call it not the min-maxed build of a Champion).

On top of that so far we have:
- Thrass lvl 2 Monk
- Eyovar lvl 1 Monk

I see two ways to play it out:
Option 1 - low tier play We play low tier, with the above PC's and add lvl 1 Pregen (probably cleric for healing purposes). The Guide for early scenarios says that CP 13 (6 for lvl 4 Emdi, 3 for lvl 2 Thrass, 2 for lvl 1 Euovar and 2 for lvl 1 pregen) makes an adjustment like for a 6 PC group.

I feel this could work, and should not be deadly. But it does require you to be cautious and the biggest risk is on Eyovar.

Option 2 - high tier
We play high tier, this is how we can do it:
- we bring lvl 3 pregen (probably cleric ;))
- we bring Emdi - Champion 4, and Thrass lvl 2 monk as is
- We ask Eyovar if he could play a pregen lvl 3. Link to their profiles. He could take stats of Valeros lvl 3 and play him as Eyovar. Valeros has shield block and higher to hit modifier with unarmed attacks, but no flurry of blows or other stances. So RP wise you can describe your monk, but we would use Valeros stats. Playing pregen and reporting for lvl 1 PC allows you to apply the chronicle right away so you get your feat on lvl 1 PC.

By doing that the CP would be 17 -> no adjustment for high tier, so you play high tier as 4.

Option 2 makes it a bit riskier for Thrass, but it makes Eyovar game a bit ackward (not that ackward, but a bit).

What do you think? Please express your opinions as this requires a bit of flexibility on your part to make it work. Also with every option, there is a risk associated with it.

Oh, and one more thing, the second player for whom the spot was reserved signed up for another quest, he has lvl 3 Bard. I would not want to wait 2 weeks for the other game to end if we don't have to.

Oh man, Gogglez? I haven't play SFS in a long time, but I should definitely consider playing some games again.

As for this game, if we have a level 4, I'd get level bumped to essentially level 2 anyway and if they have one of the mentor boons, I'd get an even nicer bonus. Unfortunately, the Radiant Oath mentor boon is just some extra hit points, so I'd gain 13 instead of 10.

I would definitely be willing to play Eyo-veros at level 3 too though.

Ah, the key word being Repeatable. Thank you for clarifying.

Radiant Oath

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1. I do have the mentor boon, and you'd get 6 HP from it (16 total), since I'm Tier 2. But I don't think it (or the level bump) applies if we end up being low tier - the boon only applies if we go high tier and you're level 1.

2. Emdi's an archer, but it means he has a lot of flexibility with his reaction. That will probably protect you more than the level bump will.

3. That being said, I do want to make sure you feel free to express any concerns, either in this thread or in PMs to the GM.

4. Emdi is offended at being called "not min-maxed." He's min-maxed, just for things besides combat.

Radiant Oath

I'm fine with either option. I don't mind a bit of risk. :) I say since you're running for Emdi, let's make his experience the best, so playing up would be my first choice.
Also, if I make things too complicated, feel free to kick me out. I understand, no hard feelings. :)

I believe there was discussion that this was going to be high tier if I played a level 1 and you play level 4.

Also, are you sure you are tier 2? Ignored is Tier 0, Liked is Tier 1 at 20-59 points, and Admired is Tier 2 at 60-119 points.

Ok so in fact there are 2 options (one of those with two possible flavors):
Option 1 - we play with Eyovar lvl 1 and pregen lvl 1. Then we play low tier. The scaling says that we treat your team as:
a. A team of six in terms of scaling encounters => you get more traps/monsters to handle
b. Or we apply level bump to the monsters => they get 10% more hp, +1 to hit damage, and all the others. So fewer monsters but beefier.

This option means that there will be bigger discrepancy between PC since you have lvl 1 and lvl 4 PC in one team

Option 2 - we play with Eyo-veros lvl 3 and pregen lvl 3. Then we play high tier with minimal CP.
The team is more balanced and all that.

Let me know if the above clearly present the options or if I misinterpreted something.

p.s. I attached the recruitment thread to the gameplay so you can dot to get notifications if you like.

Horizon Hunters

I think my preferred option is

1B: Level bump the low-tier monsters.

It won't matter if we go low tier, but as I understand it, because the boon was purchased with Fame, it uses the "old" Reputation tiers - 10 points for Tier 1, 30 points for Tier 2.

I just went through this with a VO, so I'm at least confident in the narrow case in which it came up. It came up because one of my high tier characters will be at 92 Reputation - Tier 4 in the old system, but Admired in the new system. Her Heroic Intervention boon (which gives a bonus at Tier 4) will get the bonus at 92 Reputation.

The counterargument I can see is that Heroic Intervention is a true legacy boon, which has no parallel now, whereas the Mentor boons do have a parallel. So maybe I would have to use the revised Protective Mentor boon, switched to the new system.

Horizon Hunters

Interesting! I played when 2e launched, but I barely paid attention to the PFS-specific side of things such as the schools, factions, fame/reputation, and boons. Took a break until now and I don't really know what changed. I noticed that you don't get points to spend on your school anymore and the scrolls don't scale with your level either; disappointed how nerfed the Spell School got nerfed.

I pretty much ignored the factions in 1e too. I always feel like its a lot of extra mechanics for small benefits that make the game more complicated than it needs to be.

Ok, so we have decided. Option 1B it is, we play low-tier with a bit beefier enemies and lvl 1 pregen cleric.

Please head to the discussion thread and provide the necessary information. You may introduce yourself in character in gameplay thread.

Other player with a L3 bard here. I saw the discussion about credit for locked characters from pregens, and am willing to run a pregen in this (including the L1 cleric, if that can go to a L3 character).

Take a look at this discussion in discussion thread It seems that conclusion is that you can't assign credit to a locked PC when playing a pregen.

When you decide to play a pregen you should decide who is your PC that will get a chronicle and it effectively locks that PC.

Never mind then. See you in the next run!
