Gak!I totally missed this last night!
The wayfinders do not have ioun stones inside. A good question, though. XD
"That's negative energy," Iryani immediately replies. "It rejuvenates undead but is harmful to living tissue."
I checked the boards a couple of times last night after I posted, but apparently somewhere between when you posted it and I checked it I missed it and so it didn't show on my que...

I'm just needing a quick clarification regarding your attacks this round, as there are three potential options. XD
1. Full-Attack
Cannon blast at full BAB
Cannon blast at BAB-5
2. Barrage
Cannon blast at BAB-2
Cannon blast at BAB-2
Move action is still available
3. Barrage (spend martial focus)

Hmmmm just saw your "CotCT Replacement [PF1 Homebrew]" I'm curious about it. I'd seen a little of the CotCT AP years ago, but I don't know hardly anything about it. Are you in the section where there out of town with the Shoanti? I've built a couple of Shoanti, so familiar with the quahs. Would the character you introduce need to know anything about what's going on back in town or would they just need to be willing to help Torsten Runeforger out?
I'm in several games, well a couple of games, with Grumbaki. I really like his playing style. I'll go take a look and see what a Incanter does. Maybe I can come up with something interesting...
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Regarding CotCT, we're near the beginning of Book Four. Torsten and Yhrrilka traveled to Skull Quah in hopes of learning some almost-forgotten lore. Since they're outsiders, they need to gain respect and earn trust first, though. A replacement PC would be a Shoanti and isn't expected to know anything about what's going on in Korvosa. I'd anticipate suspicion of Torsten that slowly grows to respect and trust. Maybe even a friendship strong enough to warrant a long journey to save a city that was originally filled with oppressors.
An Incanter is essentially Spheres' version of "build a mage." I've incorporated elements from it into the Sorcerer class on my website. Like Elek in this campaign, Torsten is almost completely martial-focused, so bringing in someone more magical would be a good idea. Maybe some sort of Oracle/shaman/Cleric, seeing as Shoanti tend towards martials and divine casters.

hmmm really curious about the 'soul weaver' with either a ranger or fighter. I love the idea of a fighter getting combat talent every round, but I like the rangers starting saves and skill count. The dwarf seems to be melee, might not hurt to have a switch hitter. Not sure I'd do 'feint' but it would be hard to resist.
Curious if a shoanti of the Skoan-Quah (The Skull Clan) could be 'aasimar' or a 'reeper.' Reeper seems really appropriate but would need to use a trait to change the 'soul weaver's' main stat to Wisdom... hmmm probably would be easier to do Aasimar, a lot of the 'soul weavers' class traits rely on Charisma.
On the Soul Weaver how beneficial is Bound Nexus? I realize you added 'A soul weaver’s greatest strength is the souls she collects would it be worthwhile to trade that class trait for the archetype 'Dual Channeler'?
Robert Henry |
See, now I'm waffling, I'm in fifteen games, and two are dead (GM hasn't posted in a month, though posting in other games), and three more are near dead (GM posting like twice a month) So if two games die, I'm in thirteen games. That just sounds like bad luck to me.
I'm intrigued with 'Soul Weave' but I don't think 'Reeper' would get it. Are you ok with an Aasimar shoanti? And what are you going to do with the AP trait? They don't quite fit, but hey could be tweaked... never mind, started re reading build rules...
I need to make up my mind if I'm interested. If I'm interested should I post a description like I did for Elek's game or just post in recruitment that I'm definitely interested?
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Lots of good questions. Soul Weaver is an interesting class. You've met one in-game, actually: Iryani's sister. Bound Nexus is a major class feature. The collected souls are used to power various "Nexus Powers" gained as you advance in levels. A few notable ones are speak with dead, increase Channel Die size, and summon various spirits.
For reference, Reapers are comparable to Paizo's "Duskwalker" class. They're basically half-psychopomps. My understanding is that Shoanti are almost exclusively human, but the rare "half-human" race might be acceptable.
If you end up being interested, do exactly what was said in the CotCT Recruitment thread. I'm managing the process, but the final decision's up to Grumbaki.
Robert Henry |
cool, I'll keep looking at it, make a decision by this time tomorrow. So a human shoanti, I just thought that being able to channel both positive and negative energy and us all the blessings or blights seemed interesting. And with charisma being the go to stat wouldn't hurt if I wanted to use feint...
the last shoanti I played was a ranger, he was also gestalt. If I decide to 'throw my hat in the ring' I'll post more in the recruitment, Grumbaki and I have played together a fair amount.
Robert Henry |
I went ahead and posted interest in game.
I'm attempting to piece together ideas for my shoanti. Any chance we can Creating a New Martial Tradition? we can call it shoanti. Probably something about their weapons: Earthbreakers, Bolas, and Klars. Maybe something about horsemanship? I copied down the rules and will present an idea if selected.
I'm still waffling between fighter ranger, and armorist. I feel like I know them all reasonably well. For the second class going full caster, probably something that uses charisma. I like Soul Weaver (it seems thematic) but I find myself drawn to Fey Adept, the Shadow stuff seems really cool.
The high charisma may help if I decide to use feint...

Sorry, just saw that I didn't respond to your well wishes, I read you post but last thursday was super chaotic.
She broke her left arm, up by the ball joint. It isn't bad enough to need surgery, but two months in a sling then rehab. She fell because she wasn't using her walker, she had gone to bed, but got up to do something and fell. So now, she can't move about without help. Which means someone has to be home with her and keep an eye on her becuase she forgets and will get up to walk around. The good news is when she is reading or watching tv or napping, which is most of the time, I can get on here and forget about the real world for a bit.
Robert Henry |
I'll remind you that you'd originally told your crew to sail away and return in six months if you weren't back in three days. Might want to send them a message while you're doing your preparations. XD
yeah, I hadn't forgotten. I was thinking about how to do that. He has two sending stones, one to 'slippery' Syl and the other to the Lady Agasta. So I was thinking about contacting them and get word to the 'revenge' But I stalled, thinking that if the portal was open for a day that we might have enough time to get back to this part of the tomb and get out. Obviously the 'maze' would have to be gone. Or someone know how to navigate it. Does either Sandara or Iryani have the ability to do a sending.
I will split the post, one before we leave and one into the portal and discuss it with them, once it's sorted he'll make a call.
Robert Henry |
Any recommendations? How about the pathfinder? When the've returned any chance he can use the scroll of dimensional door and send his crew through and have them tell Ulfric to wait for him? Or should he do that now, send the Pathfinder through before they leave.
I just assumed that when it was over we would 'poof' back to the beginning. I didn't think we would need to return here and deal with the maze again.
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Assumptions at this level of play can be deadly. XD Regardless of whether or not you *poof* back to the beginning, if you spend too long in the spire, you'll be without a ship. Did you leave one of your sending stones with Ulfric before going in? I can't remember and don't feel like going back and checking.
The dimension door will teleport people up to 680ft away. To get in range, you'd have to leave the spire.
Eras the Needle has some stealth magic and a ring of sustenance. That's how she's managed to survive for the last six months.
Robert Henry |
Ok, putting this here early hoping you'll check the boards.
Elek did not specifically say that he left a sending stone with Ulfric. In all honesty, since he had a crewmember pick them up I forgot about them. I hate to ask you to let me retcon things, but if you don't mind me giving one to Ulfric I agree that he should have.
Also, don't know how he would use the castaway flair. Anway, let me know if you mind retconing giving Ulfric one of the stones to hold on to.
If nothing else, he can send word to syl using that stone and have her run an intercept course to either turn Ulfric around or to pick them up herself.

ok, so incoporeal:
An incorporeal creature has no physical body. An incorporeal creature is immune to critical hits and precision-based damage (such as sneak attack damage) unless the attacks are made using a weapon with the ghost touch special weapon quality. In addition, creatures with the incorporeal subtype gain the incorporeal special quality.
Since the sword has ghost touch, the sneak attack should work right?
[oo]Edit:[/ooc] I'm trying to be aware of the move actions. So putting the astrolab away is a move action. But, I'm imagining, that instead of sheathing the estoc, he tucks it under his left arm and grabs it from there. So I'm not counting that as a move action, but a free action. If that's not ok let me know. It might make the battles like this last one more round.

Hopefully Elek will survive Sevenfingers and escape the spire. With that in mind, he intends to return to Port Peril, get fixed up, fufill is obligation to Iryani's sister, purchase one more ship, recruit more crew and a couple of 'expert:' an engineer and a proper 'ship's doctor.' Afterwhich he will return to the Isle of Empty Eyes.
I plan on making the Cylops CATAMARAN a defensive vessel to guard the island captained by the Ironbeard brothers. I'll also need to appoint a 'manager' for the island when Elek isn't there. That gives me two more positions I need to fill, one captaincy for the new ship and an inland overseer. The two NPC's I have on board are Iryani and Ederleigh Baines would either of them be interested in a Captaincy or the overseer position? IF not I may hire someone for one or both. I guess I could make Jape the captain, but at best I saw him as a 'second in command.'
Hmmm, I guess in theory I could put Rogar Ironbeard on the new ship and make Ulfric 'overseer' of the Island and Captain of the defensive ship. That might be the best option. Would Ederleigh accept a position on the Island, Possibly Ulfric's second in command? If he will I'll keep Iryani on board.

Does the "helm of comprehend languages and read magic" also let the wearer speak the languages they comprehend?
I just realized something, my initial thought on the boat was they would light it and whoever would smell the meat burning. Now I realized it was for the raw meat to attract something and then light it on fire while they were on board.
Sometimes I feel stupid.
But at least we know that whatever the meat was supposed to attract can be killed with fire. Let's just hope they can't fly...
Your Benevolent Dictator |
Just a quick note: I've added a bunch of Prestige Classes to my website. They're all a 5-level investment, but the prerequisites are usually pretty manageable. Feel free to take a look to see if any strike your fancy. I'd recommend the Ship Captain, Storm Kindler, or Tempestarii. XD
I'm mentioning this now because once you're done with the Sevenfingers' questline, you'll level up.
