Though most of the book is written in the flowy script of Auran, Kamishah notes a few words written in Common. One stands out to him: the Primodrial Key of Ilyrane. With Liora translating, she learns that this is another tome that details theories on how to free Ranginori from the Untouchable Opal. It lists the book's last known whereabouts as the Cobalt Gallery of the Azure Hall.
While Liora is translating the books, the others find a smashed chest containing a +1 chain shirt.
Just then, four people walk down the stair case to confront you. The leader of the group steps forward. "You are wanted for questioning in the connection with the death of Herbert, the steam lizard, a few hours ago.". They stand still, waiting for a reaction.

Liora the Skydancer |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"Of course, we'd love to help you but, er, who are you, exactly?"
GM Mauve |
Maud sees through their disguises! Similar to her, these 'guards' are elemental in nature. Sulis! Perhaps not strange on the Plane of Air, but their outfits are not those of the city guard. And their testimony doesn't seem genuine. Like they have a strong desire to pursue you in particular that does not stem from the steam lizard attack.
"We are the City Guard. The priests alerted us of your presence down here. Come with us upstairs for questioning. Now, please."
Maud Stonespark |
Not for the first time Maud wishes she had telepathy or some silent way to communicate warning to her companions. Instead she will simply tilt her head and say "Why are you lying? What do four Suli want with us? You are definitely not City Guard and this is not about the lizard." She mutters under her breath "...who attacked US, by the way, not that it matters."
Liora the Skydancer |
"Not city guard?"
Liora's eyes narrow and she tenses up, ready for anything.
"Then why should we listen to you? And Maud's right, the lizard attacked us; we tried to talk some sense into it but it wouldn't listen."
"And Kamishah isn't fooling around, either," she continues, jerking one thumb at the stoic Mwangi. "So you might want to think about your next move reaaaaal carefully."
Intimidate (Aid Another): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

And like a number of people out there, Liora apparently has a mouth on her but doesn't have the charisma or presence to back it up...
Willard Ravenhair |
Willard tenses on the staircase, ready for more elemental destruction should the need arise. Munnin stands stock still on the man's shoulder, eyeing the 'guards' while Willard considers which spell would be most effective in this situation.
GM Mauve |
The moment Maud calls them out on their disguises, they realize their gig is up! They pull out their saps and rush in to attack!
"You are fooling with things you don't understand! We have to stop you at all costs. The planes will be destroyed if you continue!"
They attack right when they are called out without hesitation, so Kamishah doesn't get an Intimidate check unfortunately.

All but the red suli pass out, falling to the floor asleep thanks to a handy spell from Yulau. Sleep was a good idea here!.
Liora pulls out her sling and guides herself as she watches the suli fall one by one. The red one dashes up with her sap raised and attempts to feebly wail on Yulau. But she's in tears, wholeheartedly believing her cause. "You don't understand! You are going to destroy everything if you continue!". Her attack goes wide as she can't seem to see through her tears.

Willard Ravenhair |
I'll bot Cevrik this fight, if someone can take him over next fight?
Cevrik advances Mr. Dumplington, and encourages the beardog to sit on the suli with the blue tabard as he fires a magic missile from his wand at the standing Suli threatening the party. Aha! Fear not my friends, this brave knight shall vanquish these foes. We should allow them to survive, does someone else have manacles? he indicates the suli under the grizzly bear with his wand having send magical energy into the other enemy.

Hmm Maud was also going to grapple the one still standing. Can she assist the bear? Or I can try to gently tie up the hands of the sleeping people? Or use the rope to assist the bear in "pinning" or "binding" the blue Suli? Not sure how rope rules intersect with Grappling in 1e.
Out of genuine curiosity Maud asks the remaining Suli "Why? All we are doing is looking for information. How is that damaging to anyone?" She is still not certain about actually releasing Ranginori from the Untouchable Opal. Their mission was just to find out HOW.
Maud Stonespark |
Oh, I misread that, sorry.
Maud attempts to hold the standing Suli's arms to her side so she cannot attack.

"The information you seek will destroy us all if you find it!" she calls out at Maud, struggling against the oread's strong muscles.

"So we're taking prisoners? Probably for the best," Liora comments as she also produces a length of rope from her pack and moves to help secure sleeping Yellow.
"And, like...how do you even know that it'll destroy anything?" the sylph adds over her shoulder to Red. "Why would that be a worry?"
GM Mauve |
The red suli attempts to escape. "Let me go!". And she wiggles free from Maud's grip. "People like you wont understand!" she screams as she runs up the stairs towards the exit. (She provokes an AOO from just about everyone)

"Monsters?? Are you all a bunch of idiots or something?" Liora snaps as the melee ends and she's able to help secure the suli prisoners. "All we have been doing is trying to find information. You and that lizard got in the way when we wouldn't just back off on the say-so of people we don't even know for reasons that apparently no one is either willing to explain or is capable of explaining!"
The sylph scowls, placing her hands on her hips. "Only speaking for myself here, but I'm kinda tired of it. So if the only answer you've got as to why we should abandon our mission is, 'The outcome will be totally bad, we promise, you gotta trust us bro' then all of you can go pound sand as far as I'm concerned."
"We should just leave these guys here to cool their heels for a while," she remarks, turning to the rest of the group. "One of the librarians or a custodian or someone'll surely be along after a while and let them loose anyway. A little time-out in the meantime won't hurt 'em."
Willard Ravenhair |
Willard nods in agreement with Liora, And we are Pathfinders, just telling us you won't let us explore or learn only makes us work harder to do so... I think you are right, a little time thinking about how they could have approached us more nicely would do them well.
GM Mauve |
After the suli awaken and find themselves tied up, they meekly listen to Liora. The red one that Maud had grappled speaks up. "The outcome WILL be bad though! We do promise that.". But she grits her teeth to continue. "We know all about what you're trying to do. Your quest to release Ranginori will ultimately lead to the planes being imbalanced and will cause them to unravel."
The other three shake their head in sorrow. "Which would mean the death of all of us and everything we know. So we need you to stop what you're doing and go back home. Now. Release us. We can handle everything from here.". The red suli pleads with them to stop.
Maud Stonespark |
Maud listens thoughtfully to what the Suli say, then responds "Our quest is NOT to release Ranginori though. It is simply to research HOW to do it, and of course to find Jamila and the items she stole. Though any more information we can find out about your organization and you goals would be helpful. We do not WANT to be opposed to you... unless your goals are evil of course." She ponders for a moment, then adds "Aren't ALL the good-aligned Elemental Lords imprisoned? Would it keep the balance if they were ALL released? You do mean the balance between elements, don't you? Or good and evil?"
Maud agrees with leaving them there and continuing.
GM Mauve |
"We know your type, Pathfinders. Once you figure out to do something, someone in your organization will find a way to go through with the plan. Though you might not want to release Raginori, another Pathfinder will once they find out a way. Your type rarely thinks of the consequences - just do what you want, when you want. "
The suli looks at Maud, from part-elemental to another, "We don't know Jamila's true purpose. She does her own thing.". She gives Maud a nasty look. "Pah! If they were all released? The chaos would not only bring about war and destruction, it would bring about the total annihilation of the elemental planes. Think of the consequences! Give up your plan now!"
You could try to convince them that it wont be the destruction of the planes, perhaps with a Diplomacy check or something. They're a bit stubborn and stuck on their view points (i.e. they are considered Unfriendly right now.)
Yulau |
”I mean it in the nicest way, but you all are being really dumb right now. We aren’t evil. We spared you all and are spending time trying to explain ourselves rather than just bash you in the head. I like living, so I’m not going to do anything that will destroy the world. There any too many delicious teas that I haven’t sampled yet,” she says with a smile.

"Wouldn't bringing back the ultimate balance by having all the good guys freed be better in the long haul than letting them stay prisoners?" Liora asks, trying to wrap her head around the sulis' viewpoint. "Not to mention it's cruel to keep them locked away!"
Diplomacy (Aid Another): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Maud Stonespark |
Maud is obviously struggling to come up with a convincing argument to oppose the Sulis' viewpoint when she doesn't truly understand their viewpoint.
Diplomacy Aid (Chronicles): 1d20 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) - 3 + 2 = 7
"Uhh... the thing is, uhh... cousin... we also want to better understand the balance between the elements. Perhaps your group could teach us? ...or something?..."
GM Mauve |
Unfortunately, don't think that's enough to change their mind... they're stubborn and truly think you guys are out to destroy their home.
"Pssh. Not evil? I know your type! You'd kill us if we stood in your way. Just like you killed Herbert!"
Seeing as you guys have the upper hand and they're tied up, they yell out. The lead suli, the one in red, starts talking "Just leave us here! But if you continue on your quest, just know others of us will try to stop you. And if they don't stop you, the Gods will smite you when you do release Ranginori. Because we know you will want to."
Another one of the sulis calls out, "We can't have you destroying everything we know and love! Just know that I curse your name for all of eternity. "
So what's the plan? They're not friendly. Do you leave them here tied up? Take them back upstairs to the monks? Kill them?
