I mean the worst that can happen is you discover no new information.

I enjoy roleplaying responses from NPCs based on skill check rolls – low rolls in particular can become quite entertaining! ;)

I submitted Brand's winning details to PaizoCon HQ at around 3:44am June 2, 2021 Pacific Time, so they should get back to you over the next week or so, Brand.

Just FYI:

Normally Keiko will make a fuss at every building trying to get permission to bring her horse in with her while adventuring ("He's got a narrow frame, look at how well-trained he is!"), but even she knows horses don't belong in bars (or most buildings in a town). GM just know this is my standard declaration at going indoors, so let me know which "indoors" I can bring him with (because roleplaying that is no fun for anyone).

Also because of that it's very important for her to be in the back - with her horse - so she isn't blocking anyone. I did put her in the rearmost spot (on slide 10 marching order) but it looks like someone added spots behind that?

Will have to post in the morning. Placed my pawn but it's not perfect. Phone app controls is less than stellar. I imagine Radiarch with bow out ready to fire at a moment's notice.

The current scene is a ruined country estate, so there should be no issues taking your horse anywhere a large, narrow-framed creature will fit (including inside the manor house -- which is kinda cool.)

Indeed, that is the mini I use for him in person. Follow the link in my profile to my Chronicles listing and you'll find a bigger, clearer picture of the mini itself. In my opinion, it's not a very good paint job. I'd definitely would want to do it over, but the color scheme is essentially there, including the azure blue darkwood bow I described at the beginning. The avatar is actually a sorc from the NPC Codex and the rest of that costume looks nothing like an archer pali, but the crop hides that fact.

I plan to play Radiarch in 1e as long as there's PFS1e games to play him in. After, once I get enough Achievement Points, I'll buy the Aasimar boon to officially transfer him to PFS2e.

Regarding the Precise Shot thing... from the rules as written of that feat, it appears we used it correctly unless there's a another thing written that counters the actions we took. My attack took into account Precise Shot by ignoring the -4 penalty.

I believe the -4 penalty for shooting into melee is separate and stacks with AC bonuses for cover, as is evidenced by the Improved Precise Shot feat?

This is my first archer though, so...? I could be wrong.
(And first Monk, and first animal companion... I am learning a lot!)

Okay... I think I'm square now. It's been a long while since I played this system so I was getting the soft cover rules separate from firing into melee. So really yeah. I'm shooting a straight d20 roll in this particular fight.

Thank-you, peeps. You’ve basically nailed the two separate rules.

1. There is a -4 penalty for firing into melee, normally negated by taking the precise shot feat.

2. Soft Cover: Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC.

Normally expressed as a -4 to the ranged attackers attack roll in play-by-post (to make it easier for the GM perhaps?), though the rules imply the GM should actually apply +4 to the target’s AC instead.

That leaves the issue of how much soft cover Large targets (like our panda) are afforded.

The following clause from the CRB is relevant IMO.

Partial Cover: If a creature has cover, but more than half the creature is visible, its cover bonus is reduced to a +2 to AC and a +1 bonus on Reflex saving throws. This partial cover is subject to the GM’s discretion.

The panda has soft cover from Keiko’s attacks via Brand, Kenji, Razisus and possibly Maggie.

So the question in my mind is whether the panda is 50.1% visible. That is difficult to say looking at the map top down, and not knowing the exact height of all individuals involved. Perhaps that’s why the “This partial cover is subject to the GM’s discretion” sentence exists.

As such, given the locations of Razisus, Brand and Kenji, and assuming the panda is 10’ tall (large) I am going to say full ‘soft cover’ exists and the panda gets the full +4 to its AC.

I get that if Keiko had 5’ stepped to the east to avoid Razisus getting in the way, Maggie would be in the way – albeit an additional 5’ distant. Still I think we are splitting hairs at this point.

Having said all of this, Keiko's first attack would have missed whether no, partial or full cover was applied.

Well my other idea was using my horse to bull rush the panda inside, buuut Kenji in the grapple makes that... less feasible.

Brand got out of the way, hopefully that helps turn it into a pin cushion :)

Good point. I have removed the 'Taldane' labels from the map.

The buildings would have a sign on them in Tien indicating their purpose. Though you would have to 'go up to the front door' in order to read them.

I keep sitting down to interject throughout this weekend, to try and steer the conversation somewhere from Radiarch's perspective and simply nothing is coming in the brief minutes I have at a time. Will try again tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good one!

I have been checking the game every few hours I am awake.

I have a VTT game starting in about 14 hours from the time of this post. (My first time on Foundry :)

I would like to move us forward after that's over, so if you want to do anything more in the current location, please have at it!

To resolve the “liberation” of the map, the scenario suggests GMs adopt an “open-ended, skill-heavy encounter.”

Allow the PCs to plan how best to acquire the map, and assign a number of skill checks to have them execute their plan and then resolve how well they succeed.

So if you all want to outline a plan and your PCs role in that plan (roleplayed in Game Play), I will assign the skill checks for each of you, and get the heist underway.

Oh, you also need to decide if you want Jianghong’s assistance or not.

UHHH I as a player have no (good) ideas for plans.

bad ideas:
- find where they keep the "real" map?
- copy the displayed map and steal it, leaving the false in its place?

Keiko's strengths:
- high DEX +4
- Acrobatics +8
- Escape Artist +4
- Handle Animal +4
- Perception +6 (Look out, perhaps?)
- Stealth +4

No trained Sleight of Hand, or Craft skill (+0 untrained)

She does not currently trust Jiang, but will include him in the plan if the others that spoke with him more think it wise.

Seems as good a plan as any. Razisus is not a fan of subterfuge, but he will not oppose the plan.

I believe I have enough to work with so I can move the scenario forwards.

Otherwise I will move us forward within 24 hours or so.

Hey by any chance does anyone own some thieves' tools?

It doesn't look like any of us are trained in Disable Device either. I assume a DEX roll would not be permitted here, so our only option would be to break down the door?

(Though if anyone is breaking down the door, they should be beside Jiang ;)

There are walls on the eastern and western borders of the map. You may consider guards could be posted anywhere along those walls.

What kind of facilities are included within the guesthouse? bath / shower included, or... should a tired/dusty from the road damsel be advised to bathe or shower outside, say, in the backyard? :P

I suppose you could bathe in the fountain?? The guest house is probably too far away.

Work has hit me for six today, folks.

If you could roll a d20 for an appropriate skill that would help me out.

Maybe a charisma or Perform (act) for Magdelina, and an Acrobatics check for Kenji.
