Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 . Wow! Glad that was an easy one. Even with a good mod I almost missed it!
Irlana keeps her spiritual weapon attacking the monster. Seeing the monster's many attacks she activates her life link with Sir Falcon.
5 points damage transferred from Sir Falcon to her. Round 2 attack from the Spiritual Weapon.

Irlana's spirit blade pops one of the monster's eyes. Andwise casts a haste spell on the party while Eltran inspires the warriors to keep fighting. Tanssi unleashes a flurry of attacks and manages to connect with all three of their claws, but fails to find purchase with their fangs. The abberation absorbs some of the damage but many pieces of the monster's flesh are now laying around the battlefield. One more good hit might be all it takes to kill the beast.

1d100 ⇒ 50
Botting Sir Falcon to move things along!
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Maffei babbles incoherently as she wipes at her eyes. She is the only one who seems to be affected by the gibbering mouthers babbling, as even Sir Falcon is able to push the maddening sound from his mind. Moving with superhuman speed, the samurai slices up the abomination into several pieces.
Katana Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d8 + 5 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 6 + (2) = 21
Katana Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d8 + 5 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 6 + (5) = 17
With the monster slain, everyone has a chance to recover and inspect the door.
Maffei comments that the lock on the door looks incredibly complicated and probably beyond her ability to bypass. Luckily the key provided by Bassy fits the key hole perfectly and the heavy stone door opens easily.
Inside is a 5-foot-deep alcove in which a 5-foot-wide shaft drops down into the ground, descending 30 feet into the chamber below. The walls of the shaft are made of roughly hewn stone, so there are a few tiny hand and foot holds for someone who wanted to climb down.

![]() |

Irlana moves up to examine the shaft. "Sir Falcon? Could you tie your rope to me just in case I slip climbing down? I'll go slow and search for any dangers on the way down. If I scream, pull me back up quick!"
Casting Light on my hand, then proceeding as stated.

![]() |

"Well done, Sir Falcon! That was quite the uncomfortable experience, and the looking at the creature appears to only be half of it."
As Irlana prepares to decent, Andwise lays a gentle hand on her- "May Desna protect you in the dark" Guidance

![]() |

Irlana lets herself get lowered down the shaft and into the chamber below.
This oval chamber has two large alcoves, each containing two child-sized stone sarcophagi. In the east end of the room, a shaft opens above a marble statue of a rearing warhorse.
Once her feet touch the warhorse, she is able to grab onto the horse and lower herself to the floor.
1d20 ⇒ 16
Irlana notices two things as she steps down to the floor of the tomb. First, when she shines her light spell towards the western wall, her incredibly perceptive eyes notice signs that there is a hidden door along the wall. The other thing she notices is that there is the faint sound of sobbing bouncing off the stone walls of this small room.
Map is up on the slides!
Maffei lowers herself down into the pit and starts smoothly, but cautiously climbing down using the handholds in the roughly hewn wall.
She can Take 10 and still make the DC 20 Climb check, so she'll follow behind Irlana as back up.

Eltran Katsu' |

“Do you see anything down there?!“ he says and it’s clear he’s afraid of this climbing with his ridiculous heavy armor.
He starts to take the armor off which takes a while.

![]() |

Irlana nods to Maffei when the nimble lady easily climbs down the rope. Hearing the question she calls back up, "Yes. There's a statue of a horse, and two alcoves, each with two small sarcophagi. I also see a hidden door.... and, I hear what sounds like someone crying."
"I think it's safe to tie off the rope and everyone climb down. If you've got heavy equipment, or armor, you might want to lower that down separately. Your armor won't save you from a fall. I'm going to go check out the hidden door and maybe figure out where the crying sound is coming from."
She moves over by the hidden door. "Over here Maffei. And can you figure out where that crying sound is coming from?" She casts detect magic and scans around the room, then examines the door.
Perception for anything significant or dangerous on the door?: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Perception to determine the direction that the crying sound is coming from?: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

![]() |

As the group organizes climbing safely down Irlana has another thought. "Wait everyone. Maffei, stop moving. Look around on the floor. Are there any tracks other than ours? This place was locked but could someone have opened the lock before us? Magically perhaps?"
Before the group gets down she uses her light to scan the floor for her tracks and any others that might be down here. ?? Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Tanssi Varjo |

Tanssi looks over at Andwise and then down to the hole.
I am not sure how I can get down, without falling
Then, in a very high pitch, ear splitting, extraplanar voice- Tanssi speaks aloud.
Can someone lower me below"

![]() |

Irlana checks the floor for any signs that it has been moved through, but doesn't see any signs of disturbance. Nor does she see any signs of a trap.
The sobbing noise echoes off the stone walls of the room, but she quickly identifies that it seems to be originating from one of the halfling sized sarcophagi.
Irlana doesn't detect any magical auras within range beyond those coming from the magic items carried by her companions.
The rest of the party descends down the rope and into the chamber, with Etran's plate armor pushing up a cloud of dust as it lands with a loud clank on the stone floor.
Sir Falcon approaches the stone sarcophagus where the sobbing is coming from. The stone lid isn't locked, but it is heavy enough that it would require two hands to slide open.

![]() |

Irlana stops Sir Falcon from trying to open the sarcophagi. "Wait. Whatever is in there it isn't a child, or at least not a living child. Let Etran get his armor on and until everyone is ready."
Can anyone detect evil or undead? I think Sir Falcon is the strongest of us. ?? Once everyone is ready he can sheath his sword and try to open the sarcophagi.

![]() |

Tanssi makes it down the shaft.
Maffei sheathes her twin blades, then grabs one end of the sarcophagus lid. "If there is an undead creature in there, it's better to deal with it now. Falcon, I'm ready when you are."

![]() |

The stone lid of the sarcophagus is heavy and it takes both warriors two hands to lift it up and set in on the ground. As they pull the lid off, a small creature rises from the stone coffin. It looks like an emaciated child, but with an animal skull for a head. The creature reaches out towards Sir Falcon with one tiny, boney hand and in a soft, childish voice cries out, "Why's it so dark? I'm so scared!"
Andwise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Tanssi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Maffei: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Irlana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Undead: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Maffei drops her end of the stone slab; then draws both of her blades. She seems unsure of what to do next, so she readies herself to strike at the creature if it attacks.
The sobbing sound continues and Maffei and Sir Falcon both notice that their hands are shaking a little from the dreadful sound. Everyone else can hear the noise but doesn't seem to be affected by it.

Andwise moves in behind the outside, following it will a small beam of glowing candle light that illuminates the baby and interfears with with its vision. Stardust

![]() |

Tanssi pounces forward claws first. As they near the undead child, Tanssi also feels a strange sensation trembling through their muscles. They still manage to connect with a bite and a claw though. Its body doesn't feel like flesh and bone; more like a burlap sack stuffed tightly with twigs and straw. Despite its small size, the creature is surprisingly strong and fast; and Tanssi fails to bring it down.
Andwise covers the creature in faintly glowing starlight.
Sir Falcon drops the heavy stone lid on the ground, freeing his hands. The 500 lb. solid stone lid lands with a loud thud.
This undead creature is about four feet tall and is standing up inside a three-foot-tall sarcophagus. This lid was probably too heavy for it get out but now that the sarcophagus is open; the undead creature would need to be restrained to seal it back in.

There is no Will save for the aura; it just happens when you're within range.
Sir Falcon's blade glances off the creature's skull. Eltran tries to encourage his allies to fight harder, but for some reason the song just isn't reaching them.
The creature's aura seems to block inspire courage.
Irlana steps forward and attempts to blast the undead with positive energy but its too small and quick for her to reach.
Irlana needs to move up to the creature to deliver the touch attack, and it will provoke an AoO to get to the only available space. Do you still want Irlana to move there?
Maffei swings her twin blades at the creature. The creature dodges out of the way of one swing and deflects the other away with its hand.

The bite sucks the wind out of Sir Falcon's lungs and his muscles begin to ache with fatigue; but he still manages to deliver a final, fatal blow to the undead creature. The fox skull flies off its body, which collapses in a pile of leaves, rags, and small animal bones. Lying amongst the debris is a ragged doll and a tiny toy horse with wooden wheels; toys which once belonged to this cursed spirit.
Combat Over!
Sir Falcon is fatigued; a condition which can be removed by either resting for 8 hours or a lesser restoration spell.

Eltran Katsu' |

Eltran looks at Sir Falcon.
“Oh you are really brave!!! But you look horrible!!“

![]() |

Irlana looks at Sir Falcon, obviously concerned. "I have healing available, but do not have the spell prepared to cure you. Do you want to wait and rest, or press on?"

![]() |

Andwise runs up next to Tanssi, as soon as it is clear that the undead baby has been fully vanquished.
"I, too, lack the healing necessary to strengthen you. Do you imagine there will be more as we proceed on?"

![]() |

There doesn't appear to be anything else of interest in this chamber. The open sarcophagi doesn't have any treasure. There are three more child sized sarcophagi in the room that are also sealed with heavy stone lids. The secret door on the east wall isn't locked and leads to a smaller chamber containing a spiral staircase leading deeper into the tomb.
Fatigue isn't the worst condition to have; the most annoying thing about it is that it takes a long time to remove. If the party does want to rest they can chose to either rest just 8 hours to remove Sir Falcon's fatigue or rest until morning to restore until morning to also recover spells, bardic performance, etc.

![]() |

I think we can move on carefully.... We don't have unlimited time and will possibly run in to something else that may hurt someone and need us to rest/recover. Irlana has a very high Perception and can take the lead. We need light so stealth isn't an option. She'll keep a light spell active on a small rock that she can toss ahead if we encounter anything.

![]() |

Thanks for letting me know the plan! I am assuming that you are checking for traps as you move, so you don't need to announce it. I'll make a check for you if it's needed.
Maffei steps up next to Irlana. "I think I should be close by for now. You could use another pair of sharp eyes looking for traps. Don't worry about not leading the group, Sir Falcon. You deserve a break from being the first one bitten by monsters."
Last chance to buff or heal! I'll post the next floor later today.

![]() |

Ok, I forgot about the damage from the gibbering fight. I believe Falcon is down -9, Maffei is down -7. Or it might be Falcon down -4, Irlana -5, and Maffei down -7

Thanks! Irlana will use her 1/day/person healing hex for that!

The spiral staircase leads down to another, slightly larger chamber.
A huge mosaic of a red dragon decorates the floor of this large chamber. To the north lie three circular alcoves, each with a single pillar of black marble in its center. To the south, in a single large alcove, a spiral staircase descends to a deeper level of the crypt. Four stone sarcophagi sit on the floor on the south side of the main room, two on each side of the alcove entrance.
There is some script on the dragon mosaic. It's written in Common, but in an ancient looking style and dialect. The words say: “Red Azramo—Give the Dragon Her Due.”
Irlana can see that mosaic has a ward on it that will trigger when someone steps onto the tiled floor. Its a magic trap; so its not clear what exactly will happen.

Eltran Katsu' |

kn arcana : 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
kn arcana : 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31
kn arcana : 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Eltran steps cautiously at the entrance of the chamber, taking a moment to absorb the grandeur of the red dragon mosaic. He casts detect magic.
“The floor, the dragon mosaic. It’s warded with some form of evocation magic. Be wary where you step … there's a trap waiting to be sprung maybe!“
His gaze shifts to the sarcophagi on the south side of the room.
“There's magic emanating from one of those stone coffins too. One aura feels like necromancy … I'd be wary of anything undead potentially lying in wait? The other is fainter... abjuration magic. Perhaps some sort of protective charm or shield!“
He takes a step back.
“Given the saying on the mosaic, it's clear there's a challenge or puzzle to solve here. Whatever lies ahead, we should tread carefully!“

![]() |

Irlana stays by Eltran. "Yes. Some sort of puzzle. 'Red Azramo—Give the Dragon Her Due'? Is that a clue? Do we need to donate something to the dragon? Look around for a coin slot or something. But keep Detect Magic active so we don't step where there's an aura."
Perception, including Detect Magic, looking for anything on the dragon image, a slot or hole?: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

![]() |

On a closer examination, the two auras seem to be coming from something inside the sarcophagus.
Irlana doesn't see any kind of opening or switch within reach. The mosaic covers up almost the entire floor of the main chamber, and there isn't a clear path around it.
Besides climbing on the ceiling or along the wall, it looks like it won't be possible to avoid touching the floor.
Maffei shrugs and says, "if you don't have any better ideas, I could take a stab at disarming it. There's always a risk I could accidentally set it off, of course!"

![]() |

"Unfortunately I haven't any training in traps, magical or otherwise. If it were set off would it reset itself? Would it be set off by something other than a person touching it? Perhaps we could throw some dirt or something on it?"
Does it cover the entire floor? Or just the dragon image?

![]() |

Irlana takes another look at the aura and she thinks it effectively covers the entire room that the mosaic is in; but doesn't cover the small alcoves containing the black marble pillars.
Maffei replies, "I have some experience with magic traps and I know how to disarm them. If it was a mechanical trap, then we might be able to trigger it by throwing a rock or something. But with a magic trap, the creator would have decided what kind of condition would activate the trigger. They also probably set up a way to get around the trap, but it could be almost anything. Usually it something like saying a pass phrase, making some kind of gesture, or carrying a special object. And yeah, they most likely made it so that it will reset after some period of time." Maffei pats down her skin tight leather armor, then lets out a sigh. "By the way, does anyone have a set of lockpicks I can use? It seems like I left mine back on the Shadow Plane."
