Feeling the wind of the bullet whiz past him, Lucian's eyes widen. Getting ready to swing at the thing again, he watches Brannin punches the thing with his prosthetic. Watching it dissipate Lucian lets out a sigh of relief. "Well struck Brannin."
Smiling at Cardsharp, he shrugs as he kicks the sand on the ground. "At least you hit the blasted thing, anyone have a clue as to what that was?"
Gesturing towards the doors at the bottom of the steps he continues.
Stopping in front of the tapestry Lucian admires for a moment, nodding in agreement with Edgar. "Nice indeed, Let's pick it up when we come back this way."
He pauses and looks at the carved columns, smiling, as he thought about the little mechanical men. "At least I don't think we have to worry about the stone columns coming to life."
Moving to the western double doors, he admires the white on black spiral, then inspects the doors for traps. distracted by the spiral he asks, "What to you think Cardshark? Good to go?"

You find no traps, but both set of doors are locked. Lucien sets to work and gets the lock open. Disable Device DC 20 - so take 10 will do it.
This short hallway narrows sharply to the west, descending to set of stairs that abruptly ends at a rough rock wall.

The tunnel appears to have been abandonded before excavation was completed, but Lucien notices what might be a secret passage on the north. But there are no mechanisms to open it... perhaps it was meant to be opened from the other side.
Olivia, who seems far more engrossed in the scrolls you found in the first room than what you have found here, says "I think this was meant to be a tomb for his mistress, but it seems no arrangements for money to continue after his death were made, so they likely just stopped."

Lucian Brachtarna |
Chuckling at Cardsharps 'sandy' comment Lucian picks the locks on the door and enters the hallway, confused by the unfinished stairway and the unpenning hidden door. Tracing the edge of the hidden door with his finger. "There's a hidden door here. But no way to open it."
Turning as Olivia explained what the scrolls had informed her about the mistresses planned tomb. He taps the door, "Maybe ne wanted to be able to sneak over to visit her."
He gestures back the way they came. "We may as well check the northern door."
Moving back into the tapestry room, he goes to the double doors on the northern side. Pausing, again checking the door for any traps, then checks to see if it is locked. Pausing before he tries to open it, he turns to the others. "I don't see anything, does anyone else?"

Maybe she joined him in the tomb. Heard they did that. Always thought it was a bit rough of the girl. You know, "your boy has offed it, so you have to as well."
He laughs darkly as he looks for traps. Gets her out of the inheritance.

Nothing looks dangerous, and the door is also locked - but well within Lucien's skill set. The lock clicks and the doors pop open, revealing stairs down to more double doors. Those are not locked (or trapped), so you continue, finding the same situation again.
The center of this large octagonal room is a raised square platform a few inches above the floor, with a stone pillar at each corner. A gold-trimmed sarcophagus sits in the center of the platform, flanked by two statues of humanoid beings with canine heads, each of which holds an ankh in one of its crossed arms. Stone double doors exit the room to the north.
The statues depict the ancient Osirian god Anubis.

Lucian Brachtarna |
Chuckling at Cardsharks comment, he asks nonchalantly as he picks the lock on the doors and heads down the stairs. "So do you think the queens did the same thing?"
Entering the large octagonal room, Lucian pauses near the raised platform, assuming that the sarcophagus must be that of Akhentepi. He nodding towards the sarcophagus, "That must be Akhentepi." He takes off his pack, resting it on the floor. "does anyone recognize the fellow with the dog head?"
Moving near the steps of the platform he checks them very carefully for traps.

Edgar is following along, looking warily at anything carved into the shape of something that moves, or particularly large collections of sand.
Zholan savage custom, he pitches in. Barbaric, even. Looking around at the gloomy confines, and back upstairs at the hidden door that opens from the other side, he adds Know what it is? We open the wrong thing down here and whatever's behind that door comes out and traps us in here. Should go back up and jam it somehow.

Lucian Brachtarna |
Looking to Edgar then Brannin, Lucian shrugs. "If we find the other side of the door we'll at least know where it goes. Let's take a look a the sarcophagus, then find the access to the other side of that tunnel." He gestures towards the far doors to the north. "I bet it's through there."
Does Lucian find any traps on the steps?

GM Fuzzfoot |

Lucien sees no traps on the stairs.
I have moved everyone into the room. Are you barring the door open? Who does what? Let's do things in rounds, for now - just so it is more clear who moves where and does what.

Edgar notices secret doors to both the east and the west, and while Lucien and Cardshark are both attempting to be cautious, they don't notice the traps that they have walked into.
The sarcophagus pops open, and lifts upwards to snap at Lucien!
At the same time, the southern doors slam shut, locking you in. Bolts of electricity arc between the pillars, striking Lucien and Cardshark (Reflex DC 15 save for 1/2 damage). And then the northern doors burst open with tons of water pouring in!

Grakh!
Edgar, seeing the electricity arcing and the water pouring in, calls back to Brannin and Olivia by the southern door. See if you can push it open! He rushes to where he saw the outline of a secret door to the west, and tries to open it, first by finding a mechanism and then if it fails by main force.

Jumping back as the Sarcophogus tries to close on him, Lucian tries to avoid the arc of electricity as it singes his hair. Realizing they've sprung a trap at the same time that the animated coffin had attacked, Lucian tried not to think about how the coffin was attacking him and just tried to stay focused.
Dropping the torch on the platform, he grasped the 'walking stick' in both hands, studying the coffin looking for a weak spot. He asks, feeling the water splashes about him. "Does anyone see a way out?"
As he swings at the coffin with his club he see's Edgar running towards the far wall. Missing the coffin, he calls to Edgar "Edgar, what did you find?"

...Lucien slips in the water as he tries to hit the moving coffin.
I'm hoping this is this just theatrical writing, Lucian is up the steps on the platform. you said the water is 6 inches deep. But you also said the platform is a few inches high. I assumed Lucian dropped the torch on the platform, if the water is over the platform the torch would be out.
Fortunately avoiding the attack of the coffin. Lucian moves forward slightly, hoping to get a better angle. Seeing the water rising and preoccupied with the coffin he blurts out. "Someone may want to grab the torch or light something else!" lifting the 'walking stick' in both hands he swings it at the coffin. Slipping on the wet floor, he again overswings the sarcophagus.

Brannin cracks it again, but a very resolute Cardshark stands up and blasts a large hole in the side, apparently destroying whatever mechanism inside was allowing it to function.
Despite the respite from an attacking sarcophagus, the water level continues to rise, now hitting about 2 feet deep.

Lucian Brachtarna |
Seeing the sarcophagus stop moving, Lucian, let's out an audible sigh and slumps against the inanimate object. Knowing his wounds, while not life threatening, were fairly serious. "Thanks guy's I thought I was a goner."
Unable to resist, he quickly looks in the sarcophagus. Looking up he smiles, "what?"
Realizing the water had risen very fast he asks, pointing to the western wall. "Do we try the secret door Edgar found, or follow the water's source and try and turn it off?"
Taking 10 (18) on perception for the sarcophagus.

Edgar Vrinn |

There's probably a similar one on the other side,[b] Edgar says, gesturing to the opposite wall. [b]Let's open some kind of door, best one that leads up, before we drown. Water source can wait.
He looks over at Brannin. Can you help bashing one of them open? Let Lucian try it the smart way?

"I'd prefer not to drown." Brannin agreed, as he went to try the brute force method, if needed. He hoped that the secret door that was found wouldn't need any kind of effort to open.

Lucian Brachtarna |
Nodding in agreement with Edgar, Lucian moves to the western wall with the others. Snorting at Brannin's comment, "Me as well Brannin, Me as well."

Round after round, the water continues to rise, and you have no luck forcing a door open. At about 2 feet deep, though, it seems to stop pouring in. You look at each other, wondering and worrying what comes next, but nothing does.
Meanwhile, Lucien realizes this was a false tomb, filled with fake treasures.. a worthless trap for thieves!
A few minutes later, the water starts draining from the room. ”Maybe they miscalculated what it would take to drown us?” Olivia suggests.
The side doors click unlocked. Sounds like they were barred from inside or the other side, and so it would have taken a pretty good beating to crash through the wall.
Lucien does note that while a false tomb, the gold leaf on the sarcophagus could be salvaged - probably $50 in real gold! But it will take about a half hour to scrape it all off.

Lucian Brachtarna |
Breathing a sigh of relief Lucian leans against the wall, catching his breath. Smiling at Olivia's comment. "Maybe." Thinking of the large hole dug in the stairwell. "Or maybe something happened through the years they didn't expect."
Not surprised that Cardshark starts working the gold loose, Lucian gives him a nod. As he stands upright from the wall, he feels the adrenaline leach from his body and realizes the severity of his wounds. Looking at the others, see both Edgar and Cardshark are also injured. Shaking his head. "I may have expected a brawl outside of the tomb. But not inside." Taking the 'scarf' of his neck he begins to wind it around the wound on his arm. "I didn't even bring so much as a first aid kit. Maybe next time we need to bring a doctor as well."

Edgar Vrinn |

By 'side doors' do you mean the secret doors to east and west?
Edgar looks over at the doors that clicked open. What do you bet something else comes in through there to bother us? He spits, clearing his mouth from the battle stress. Or was meant to, at least.
Looking back at the door we came in, he gives a shrug. Didn't expect trouble from this quarter either. Wish we could go back up to where we've been storing what we found, check on it and rest up a bit.

GM Fuzzfoot |

Yes, that's what I meant. They aren't so secret now.

Brannin Dowtry |

"Well, complaints are like a#@&$*&+s. Everyone has them, and they're usually full of shyt." Brannin said. "We're here now, and Cardshark has the right idea in scaping the gold. Let's focus on how much money we're going to make when we sell all of this."

![]() |

Olivia chimes in. "A rest and some recover does seem in order, and doesn't take away from scraping up that gold. We still have plenty to explore, and some of you are looking pretty beat up."
Rest for 8-10 hours, and then continue?

Lucian Brachtarna |
After winding the bandana around his arm, Chuckling at Cardsharks comment about 'not going' Lucian tucks his 'walking stick' in his belt and draws his boot knife. He nods his head in agreement with Oliva. "You all are right."
Walking over to the sarcophagus, he begins scrapping off the gold. "Like Olivai said, Let's get this gold, gather up the other things we can carry up the rope easy, and get out of here."
He looks at his arm for a second. "do any of you know a good sawbones?"
