RODALAS

He follows the little shrub.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

The shrub heads into a back room, an office when he nestles into his pot and begins poring over the books.

Are you being stealthy, or intending to talk to the thing?

RODALAS

both

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 stealthy to see what else he can see.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Watching the little shrub settle in, you see him dip a twig into a little ink pot and skritch out some text in the books. He pulls out a little coffer and begin counting out some coin, separating them into piles.

The room seems to be a standard room, with two bookshelves and a chest of drawers that seems to be used as a cabinet.

You sink into the shadows as a kobold comes into the back room, Boss, the delivery has arrived from the vintner. Three crates of wine from Mirabar.

The shrub looks up and slides a stack of coin across the desk, and the kobold snatches it up and heads back out.

RODALAS

Making sure the kobold is gone and the plant has settled a bit. The eladrin silently draws a dagger and misty steps behind the shrub, making sure that his cowl is over his head. With his hand over the little.shrub's mouth and a dagger at its throat

No yelling or screaming and no one gets hurt. I am in need of information.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

The shrub stiffens and a few berries fall to the desk and roll to a stop... W-what kind of information?

RODALAS

I understand you have a connection to the fey wild and dirt that can take one there

RODALAS

He is also going to use his magical boots to make his footprints look human in case there is dust or something there.

Baldrick's back stiffens when he is introduced to the clan's leader, instinctively coming to attention. He begins to loosen up at the older dwarf's obvious fondness for his adopted son and as talk turns to Turq's youthful escapades.

When Stokely's eyes fall on him, Baldrick introduces himself with a sharp intake of breath:

Dwarven:
"Baldrick, sir, Longhall clan, from deep in the Spine."

Rodalas' escapade has caught my full attention now!

Umikh would simply state his name, if asked, as he is embarrassed at what his family has become. Perhaps someone can remind him that his history is still one to be proud of.

Background for the new/refresher: Umikh's family is from the Far Hills, east of Baldur's Gate. His forefathers were highly regarded metal smiths. Some of the metal work and weapons they created are still functioning. Which is one of the many reasons for their family's decline, including declining demand and increased supply costs, as well as the interfering presence of the Zhentarim.

To make ends meet, the family cuts corners. Doesn't heat the metals hot enough, mixes dirty sand and inferior metals into their kilns. The mob's pressure to produce contributes to the inferior products they churn out. His family doesn't really seem to mind, the money is still enough that they have all they want and much of what they need. It doesn't feel right, but no one is getting hurt.

Until someone does. The failure of their product cost lives in a tragic accident that no one was left to blame them for. Umikh decided no more. He is not cutting any more corners. They can just make better products for fewer people. His family said....nah. So he left.

Lumen does his best not to react too much at the burning from the drink but he can't keep his eyes from watering. "Wow. That's stong," he says once he's collected himself. "In addition to checking out the market, I'm in town to visit the Temple of the Sun. I understand it is the only one in the area. Are you familiar with it?" he asks the barkeep.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

@Lumen...

The barkeep smiles, O' course I know of it, pay me respects there I do! Anything I can ta rid this land of this blasted cold! The priestess, Mishann, runs the place herself, though she is always lookin' fer a new flock. Are ye looking fer religion?

--

@Rodalas...

The shrub stiffens, silent for a bit, hoping you mistake it for a regular bush...

--

@Baldrick & Umikh...

Dwarvish to Baldrick:
Longhall, eh? I know of yer clan... North of Mirabar, ain't they? Ye hail from good blood, eh?

Responding to Netzer, Ah, Many Arrows has long been a threat! I hear'd that ye boys had trouble with them o' late. Shattered the Luruar Treaty faster than untempered steel! I am glad that ye all made it out okay...

@Umikh, full name or just Umikh? Being embarrassed of his clan, would he still reveal it? Omitting your clan name would be as telling as saying it...

Baldrick looks surprised, almost shocked:

Dwarvish:
"Y-yes! Well, more north-east than north -- Mirabar's a touch far for easy trade -- but yessir, good people. At least, I think so. Most don't know us very well."

Realizing he's rambling a touch, the young dwarf smiles broadly and nods his head, feeling a swell of pride in his clan.

RODALAS

You must think I am stupid you magical shrub. he whispers with contempt Perhaps I should take a cutting to the Feywild for your squandering the gifts of that realm that the jabberwock devour ot. he says as he puts pressure with dagger on the shrubs neck, scraping enough to cause a scare and poke a bit to make a small puncture.

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Rodalas, just curious, what is your alignment?

The shrub begins to shiver, What do you want from me, Fey prince? I have done nothing to offend your people!

A bit of sap bleeds from its trunk... You have done 1 hp, based on your description.

Watch the exchange in the babble of Dwarfs. Rodney realizes he needs a way to understand what they are talking about.

Most likely talking about hiding the fair maidens from me. My reputation of being a lady's man must have preceded me. Rodney smiles as he thinks to himself.

Lumen chuckles slightly at the barkeep's question, "No, I already worship a deity but my god doesn't have any temples in the area. I wanted to discuss some of the similar goals of my god and hers," he responds.

I=I don't know what you mean? I got soil right here... here, take the pot, take the whole thing!

I am wondering where you are getting the idea that this shrub has some magic soil? All you need is some soft earth to plant the seeds on the altar. The warmth of the inn allows the soil in the pot to not be frozen like all the other ground around here.

@Umikh,

Stokley nods, as if sensing the dwarf's discomfort, Ah, my adventuring days are long past, but in my youth, we delved deep and fought the dark elves and deep dwarves that skirt the Upperdark, aplenty!

The elder dwarf lord regales you of tales as he leads you to the drinking hall...

@Lumen,

Mithann is a good sort, if a little stern fer me liking. I am sure she will enjoy a bit o' religious discourse! O' course if'n ye make an offering to the temple, she's apt ta be much warmer... Bwah! the barkeep laughs at his own joke and refills Lumen's drink without asking.

RODALAS

He is going to look where the pot is that has the dirt and whisper Speak not of this to anyone and remove not the dirt from your business less something worse happens to you and will bop him on the head with the handle of his dagger to knock him out.

He will grab a handful of dirt and leave very quietly.

Lumen nods and laughs with the barkeep. Seeing another drink in front of him, he contemplates whether his stomach can handle another. "Ah, thank you. Perhaps I should get some food in my stomach first. What do you recommend? Then I need to find a room for the night before it gets too late."

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

@Rodalas,

The shrub trembles with fear as you slip out unseen. The soil in your pocket, you return to the Moon Shrine, ready to gauge the phase of the moon.

Make me a Survival or Nature check. This will indicate how close you are to the appropriate time of the month.

@Lumen,

Ach, I make the best mushroom stew, the like o' which ye have never had! the barkeep, Ogden Firebeard as you come to know, disappears into the kitchen, returning with a large wooden bowl and spoon, a hunk of crusty bread set atop the thick stew.

@Rodalas & Dwarf crew

The dwarven hospitality is an experience that Rodalas has never experienced. Hot roasted meats and warm ales, singing and dancing, tales and history galore. He spends much of his time learning lore and tales of Stokley's boys, committing them to memory. Rodalas, make a note that you have advantage on any History or Religion checks regarding dwarves and their enemies (namely Duergar) for the next adventure.

There they are greeted by a familiar goblin face, Khitt, and his furry companion, Khatt, both bandaged up. The pair are clearly recovering from some kind of ordeal... Khitt, what would you like to use this DT for?

Umikh, after working up some nerve, asks one of Stokley's boys about a forge that he can use. Horschach, an elder, offers his own forge to the young hill dwarf, even going so far as to manning the bellows to oversee Umikh's progress. The elder's experience and watchful eye proves invaluable to the young Ironbender. Upon seeing the end result (whatever weapon Umikh makes), Horschach tells Umikh to rest... that he will put the finishing touches on the beautiful weapon. Umikh, what weapon did you make?

[ooc]Baldrick, if you missed the previous post where I added to your DT story, let me know and I can post it again for you.

Netz parties and drinks and when things get quiet he will speak to the elders and priestd and speak his mind recently I have had my mind expanded and I see and know things I never did before. I am awake to possibilities and hear whispers in my thoughts of greatness and seeking that. I haven't ever been a religious sort before nor have I been a thinker. My strength has done my thinking for me. Now I am looking for a new path to follow and I guess this voice of discontent in my place keeps gnawing at me. What am I to do?

Although grateful for the meal and the stories, being under-mountain again has Baldrick feeling homesick. As the feast winds down (and the drinking picks up), Baldrick looks for an opportunity to speak with Stokely, to ask his permission to wander and explore, to recharge himself with the weight of stone over his head.

The priest of Dumathoin looks at Netzer with a discerning eye, Ye've got a shred o' the secrets in ye, don't ye? Come and talk with me, boyo...

Assuming that Netzer follows... The priest takes you into the belly of Kelvin's Cairn. Deep below the common dwarfhome, the priest takes you through three secret doors and a maze of tunnels.

This voice ye hear, the priest looks to you with curious eyes, I'm thinkin' it might be the Keeper of the Secrets Under the Mountain. What does it say? What does it tell you?

Rodney (aka Rodalas) take great note of what is being said about the gray dwarfs. He tries his hand singing some of the dwarven songs.
Performance: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

With the correct fluency that even amazes Rodney. And even if he did not understand the words that were being sung, he sang like the best of them.

@Rodalas,

The moon this night is the moon that Rodalas is certain that he needs for his ritual... Returning to the shrine, the Silent Blade of the Winter Court pours the fresh soil upon the altar and pokes a few holes for the berries. Producing his waterskin, already turning slushie, Rodalas drips a bit of water to feed the young winter fruits. Now to wait...

The wait would be excruciating to a human, with their short lifespans it was no wonder they lacked patience, but to the eladrin executioner it was a mere moments before the moonlight broke through the solid cloud cover. A beam of moonlight could not be denied by the Frostmaiden, and it bathed the small pile of soil in silvery light.

The plants that grew from those berries were so very different from the plants that they had come from. Woody brambles grew around each other crawling up invisible lattices to create a doorway, through which an eternal dusk emerged... Home.

Rodalas shouldered his pack and stepped through...

Rodalas, you can create a little scene for yourself and share with us your process, or you can leave it a mystery. Up to you.

the voice I hear is a whisper and speaks to me often pointing out what others do not see, like this axe. It was at a bazaar and no one there knew it's value. To continue, the whisper tells me I could be great. It tells me that I could lead or do something more then just swing an axe. Netz says to the priest

Grand Lodge

Owlbear Rodeo

Follow its instructions, you are touched by Dumathoin, the priest says, but as he says that you also seem to hear the whispers echoing his speech... He will lead you to your full potential. Come, let us pray for His blessing...

Netzer, if you intend to take another class or plant seeds for the future, go ahead and write up a little something to give us a taste as you spend the week with the priest.

Hmmmm....evens longsword, odds another battleaxe... 1d2 ⇒ 2

Umikh is grateful to Horschach for the opportunity to get back to banging out the old steel. At first he thinks to make a simple utilitarian axe, and once he's back into his groove, Horschach encourages him to go bigger. He tries to remember how old his family heirloom of a battle axe actually is, and realizes that since his family have been city dwellers for some time, it might have seen the most use fairly recently. Umikh remembers his parents, his elders, and the wonderful work they did back in the old days. He recalls being taught how to hit the metal at an angle just like this (as he does the action himself here and now), how to feel the grain of the metal, how to temper in just the right fire.

As the thoughts in his head give way to the actions of his hands, he is surprised to find a lovely longsword taking shape. His focus brings him peace, and he is exhausted when Horschach tells him to take a break. Never expecting to see this fine work again, he profusely thanks the master for the time at the forge and takes a well deserved rest.

Or that happens after several days; I know zip about smithing other than hitting hot metal until it does what you want. Anywho that seems like a great way for my boy to spend his DT, and maybe a nice break from his old ways. New weapon, new attitude? And now Patti Labelle is stuck in my head.
