The heroes delve into a subterranean dungeon complex beneath the caldera of a dormant volcano in the Mindspin Mountains, where they must infiltrate the elite military academy that trains officers for the Storm Tyrant’s giant army.

Grymm's first blow shatters the giant's shin, causing him to yell in pain, keel over and fall to the ground, leading to the killing blow as the dwarf's hammer bashes its brain in! That is one dead fire giant.

Round 5:
Initiative: Stone Giant, Grymm, Edlin, Wulfric, Uraisa, Fire Giant

After watching that display and seeing himself outnumbered 4 to 1, the stone giant casts magic and turns invisible, disappearing from sight.

Edlin draws forth a new wand, this one of white wood with silver wire inlaid around the tip. He gestures and chants for a moment, finishing the spell with a circular movement around his face.

"You can't get away that easy, giant."

Edlin casts his spell and sees the Stone Giant is now near the cave entrance. No one else can see him.

Wulfric’s eyes dart back and forth as he waits for the giant to reappear, or for some to give him some other instructions.

I’ll hold my turn until I can see it, or until someone who can see it gives me some instructions.

"It's turned invisible and is near the cave entrance. If I had to guess, it'll take cover and launch some more arrows, or just fall back into the caverns."

Uraisa was capable of casting invisibility purge, but she’d have to get too close to the giant for her liking. ”Boys, if you two follow Edlein’s directions and head toward the giant, I’ll follow behind and try to dispel his invisibility.”

My invisibility purge spell will have a range of 60’ from me. If you all give me a shield, we can move forward and I can cast it.

Grymm is 20' from the entrance, more or less, so he holds his action, until Uraisa and her spell reach the giant and then he attacks.

Depending on how far the giant moved, I might have to charge to attack it, but if Uraisa moves to within 60’ and uses her spell I’ll gladly charge past her to do so (or at least place myself between her and the giant if I can’t reach it).

Uraisa boldly strides ahead, trusting her team, and then uses her Invisibility Purge spell, hopefully stripping away the giant’s magical protections.


Due to Uraisa's invisibility purge, you catch the stone giant stealthily moving, trying to sneak back into the cave from whence he came. With a 5' step, Grymm can full-attack him. The dead bodies of giants are in the way, I believe, for Wulfric to try and charge. I could let him leap off the corpse and attack with a DC 15 Acrobatics check - that might look cool.

Catching sight of the remaining giant, and hoping not to let Grymm have all the fun, Wulfric darts towards the battered foe. When he reaches the corpses of its companions he plants one foot on the closer one's armor and springs off of it to sail through the air the remaining distance. He slashes downward across its hip and thigh as he lands.

Two of Grymm's hammer blows last as well as Wulfric's slash. The bleeding stone giant yells for help and decides to fight his last stand.

Round 6:
The giant takes a 5' step back, curses "How dare you strike a holy hunter of Ymeri? I will strike you down in my god's name!" The giant shoots at Grymm, the first two arrows piercing the dwarf's body inflicting devastating damage!

Manyshot: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (13) + 22 = 35 - miss
Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22 = miss

With the 53 damage from before, Grymm is at 0 hps exactly!


Grymm is 20' away from Uraisa in case she wants to heal him and she will not provoke as enemy is wielding a bow and does not threaten. Food for thought.

Wulfric's eyes open wide in surprise as the stone giant puts an arrow right through Grymm's neck. Stepping forward to close the gap it opened, he slashes gracefully, but with a sense of urgency, at the wounded archer.

Wulfric's anger at seeing the arrow pierce the dwarf propels him to great feats of skill, as his first two blows strike the giant's pressure points, killing it from blood loss!

A woozy Grymm looks over at Uraisa. "Save your healing spells. Use one of the Heal scrolls on me. That bastard got lucky with that arrow."

We got 4 scrolls - one for each - Grymm will use his now.

Edlin taps himself with the wand a few times, his arrow injury fading and finally vanishing entirely.

Once healed, he flies over and scans the fallen giants for magical equipment or consumables.

"That was quite the brutal skirmish. The giants hit quite hard, but I'm glad you all hit back just as mightily. Once everyone is patched up, we should keep moving, keep our momentum up. There's no telling what kind of alarm or warning systems these giants have in place."

Wand CLW - 47/50 charges remaining. Wand Scorching Ray - 48/50 charges remaining. Currently Edlin has 7 images in addition to his Mage Armor, Overland Flight, and Hero's Feast spells going (Temp HP depleted).

Wulfric steps into the shadows at the mouth of the cave, in between his companions and the tunnel to the giants. He waits there, his sword at the ready, watching and listening for trouble while they figure things out.

Once Uraisa and Grymm have sorted out the healing situation, Wulfric gives a nod and sneakily leads the way into the tunnel.

I don't know how far of a lead you want to give me but I'll scout ahead and hopefully be able to backtrack to the party and warn you when I find danger and then we can charge in together.

"Allow me, if you will. There seems to be little value in endangering you while I have magic to assist in scouting ahead."

Edlin casts another transmutation, applying some small drops to his eyelids as the runes of his spell settle over his face.

"I can now see in the dark like a drow, for most of the day. And if we wish to wait about 10 minutes, I can form a floating arcane sensor to look ahead for quite a while. Or we can press on and I will retain that magic for now. The choice is yours.

Casting Greater Darkvision (120' Darkvision) for 13 hrs. Can also cast arcane eye, which will give us 13 minutes of 300'/minute scouting of the area.
