The party has varying success dodging the next wave of debris. Juis pauses to heal some of his deeper bruises before continuing.

Tabar |
Forgot the riding dog!!
ref riding dog last round: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Changing actions for last round! Forgot the dog again ... super sorry! :-( The riding dog was dying after the first at -5. So Tabar takes out his wand instead of using the bladeguard.
UMD CLW wand on riding dog last round: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 241d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Tabar takes his wrist loaded CLW wand and out heals his dog! The dog stands up!
Okay, dog would have been at 4/13 hp.
Tabar then jumps back on the riding dogs back.
Dog then can only stand up and would not have moved last round.
~
Reflex Tabar for 6 damage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Reflex Riding Dog for 6 damage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Okay, dog would have been at 1/13 hp.
Tabar uses his wand on his dog again! And the riding dog double moves.
UMD CLW wand on riding dog this round: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 261d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Riding dog would be at 10/13 hp. I am now at the same position I would have been last round so will not move icon.
Tabar also takes out his bladeguard.
Inira McCullagh |
DC 15 Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Inira keeps making a beeline for the door.
Double move, using acrobatics to avoid AoO from green, should be able to avoid all others unless they have reach.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
GM PaleDim |
While Tabar pauses, very nervously, to tend to his riding dog Inira is able to nimbly dance away from the rust monsters and sprint to the door.
BTW, getting through this door is essentially success.

Reflex, GREEN: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The feeding frenzy now brings down two of the supports and the ceiling has dropped an entire floor's height above, making the once great hall suddenly very... tight. Soon there won't be any space left here.
More chunks of ceiling crash to the floor around all. Two of the savage rust monsters perish in their own green. RED and BLUE gone.
13 damage to all, DC15 reflex for half.
The alpha climbs the steps and waits near the top for his prey to inevitably pass.

Juis Helfro |

Juis cast his last healing spell on himself before he continues to run for the exit.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
GM PaleDim |
So interestingly I don't think the alpha can fit along that narrow path that you're on.
Inira and Marianna can go. Inira can simply step to safety through the door.
Marianna Nicos |
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
At this point, Marianna throws caution to the wind and just starts booking it.
Run action. I'm not gonna escape otherwise.
GM PaleDim |
Since Inira's choice is simple I'll move us along.
The monk moves through the doorway, back out to the stone platforms where there is a distinct lack of metal. There is nothing of interest for the rust monsters here...
Feed me!: 1d10 ⇒ 3
B damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6) = 12
Reflex, YELLOW: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Reflex, GREEN: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
The next wave of crashing stones kills the last of the smaller rust monsters. The party and the alpha continue to add new bruises to their collections.
Frustrated with the tight space, the rust monster heads back down the stairs to await the pathfinders in front of the escape...

Getting pelted by the debris, Juis grabs his wand and taps himself as he continues to flee the area.
Wand of CLW on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
GM PaleDim |
Am I mistaken or has Leb not actually moved on the map for 2 or 3 rounds?
Marianna Nicos |
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Marianna just keeps on booking it down the hall, cutting against the wall to stay away from the rust monster.
Run action.
GM PaleDim |
Marianna runs down the stairs and keeps to the wall hoping to slink past the alpha rust monster on her way. She does, after all, have the most metal on which it could feed.
There are going to be less bruises now that the non-alphas bashed themselves to death feeding on the metal in the hall.
This time around there is no further feeding. The uncomfortably low stone ceiling remains in its current position, but the alpha does indeed look hungry and eyes Marianna. Unfortunately it has to go through Tabar to get to her and so it skitters along towards the ratfolk and lunges at him with its jaws.
It's teeth seem to not catch and slide off of his armor. It's a bit of a push-pull struggle, but Tabar beats off the rust monster and takes no further harm. miss The ratfolk does not appreciate the extra expenditure of energy though, eyeing the exit down the long hall.

GM PaleDim |
As Tabar rides away on his dog, the rust monster's jaws immediately chase after...
they clamp shut on air as the ratfolk narrowly escapes. As he rides forward he sees Lebraerio sprinting ahead through the door to safety.
Marianna Nicos |
Marianna continues her raw push, huffing and puffing in her armor as the end is in sight.
Another Run action
GM PaleDim |
With the metal meal running away fast, the alpha gives chase.

Juis Helfro |
With a little bit more health and seeing his companions far ahead of him, he decides to go full speed and run as fast as he can.
Run Action (100')
GM PaleDim |
Just when it seems like Juis is lagging behind, left for food, he sprints like he's never sprinted before and blows by Tabar and Marianna and through the double doorway of the Great Hall.
We are two move actions and an acrobatics check to avoid AoO away from victory :) (unless Marianna wants to just risk it).

Marianna Nicos |
"Bloody beast!"Marianna snarls as the giant rust monster finally catches up with her. Still, escape is more important, so she just bolts.
Double Move. let it take the AoO
GM PaleDim |
Marianna just escapes the clutches of the rust monsters jaws and slips through the doorway. The alpha watches the Pathfinders run away from the door and seems to lose interest. It turns back towards the metal fixtures of the grand hall. All of you understand what that means: there's going to be more cave in here very soon.
We're not doing rolls for the return trip :)
The Pathfinders, beaten and bruised carefully backtracks over the path that brought them here. They take great care in traversing the broken bridge again, and after have a much simpler time exiting the great dwarven fortress. You pass back through the hidden tunnels where the bodies of your would-be orc ambushers remain.
Soon after you find the mouth of the tunnel and Gulros, your guide, still sitting on his flat rock and daydreaming. While returning you to your VC he begins to ask all of you about what you found, and a little more about why you were searching for it.
----------------
The discovery of Jormurdun is one of the Society’s greatest triumphs in recent memory, and the Pathfinder Society begins laying the groundwork for the dangerous trek into the Worldwound to document the Sky Citadel. Despite the monumental importance of the finding, the Pathfinder Society attempts to keep news of Jormurdun secret until its agents are in a better position to explore the site and be the first to open its doors. Once the Society does share the news in the latest volume of the Pathfinder Chronicles, you find your names feature prominently.
Tabar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Tabar is completely exhausted but so glad that the group made it.
He touches his riding dog affectionately.
“I am really glad that you made it out! I was worried!“
~
After the group returns the grand lodge Tabar seems very proud.
“I feel really great guys! I usually am not happy but now I am happy! Our names in one of the Pathfinder Chronicles for finding Jormurdun? You have to be kidding me! We are famous! Famous! A ratfolk like me is famous! You are famous, too!“ the ratfolk says grinning.
