Not seeing his contact, Snaaga quickly grows bored of the ceremony and turns away from the crowd.
Snaaga, you might want to reread THIS POST again :)
Amaryllis. |
Amaryllis brightens, tension vanishing from her posture. "Lu'zenor! Time to clean out my ear-bag then. I hadn't heard it was gobbles done him in. Always easy to find a band in need of a blade to hunt those."
GM BrOp |
You gather at the Gray Swan, the inn and pub Amaryllis suggested, and it seems a decent institution, although a bit rustic by the standards of the capital or, heaven forbid, the glittering cities of the Thyatian Empire.
The place is nearly empty when you first enter (everyone still at the funeral), but begins to fill in twenty minutes or so later. It seems quite a few locals are here to have a drink before going back to work or wherever else they might have to run off to.
Discussions you overhead are mainly about the funeral and the death of the mayor's son, Efraim, but there is also a lot of talk of business. The clientele is largely human with a few elves, halflings, and gnomes thrown in. A few of the rougher types can be heard talking about what the mayor's next step will be vis-a-vis his purchased castle, and all assume that he is likely to want to round up a posse to clear it out.
What do folks want to do?
Amaryllis. |
Amaryllis tries to find some other blades for hire, or failing that, at least someone who knows how many goblins are actually in that tower - but it seems her reputation is working against her...
Charisma MPL + Town Sot: 1d20 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 0 + 1 = 3
GM BrOp |
Using Amaryllis' terrible roll as a bit of a catalyst:
As Amaryllis asks around about the goblins, she accidentally bumps into Ogre, spilling his drink. Ogre is a foul-tempered human lumberjack who is standing with his co-workers, sharing a drink after the funeral.
He slowly turns around to face Amaryllis, his shirt covered in beer and his face a mass of scowls.
"Hey Sot," he grumbles at her, "you spilled my beer. I think you owe me and my friends a round for that."
Ogre seems quite serious and he is known to always be in a terrible.
Everyone in the party sees this happen, fyi.
GM BrOp |
"A round for you and your friends? You'd be lucky to get an apology. Besides, you could use the bath."
Unless anyone wants to try and prevent what is about to happen, the next step would be to roll initiative. Anyone?
GM BrOp |
OK then.
Ogre advances on Amaryllis, growling under his breath at her.
Everyone roll initiative, please. Ogre is the only one currently seeming antagonistic, although he has a bunch of buddies drinking nearby. Nobody has drawn a weapon.
GM BrOp |
Ogre initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Ogre, his fists looking like two hams grafted onto arms, steps forward and tries to grab her by the scruff of her neck, but comes up empty. Behind him, his four fellow mill workers stand up in preparation of something happening, but for the moment seem happy to watch and see the fight unfold.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10, miss
Everyone is up!
Amaryllis. |
Tracker: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Can Terrain Stunt once Escalation hits 5, and I'll activate Lethal Hunter on Ogre here.
Flexible Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 ::eyeroll::
Carving an Opening with a natural odd just the same, so my crit range is +1 in general and +another 2 vs. Ogre
Amaryllis swayed aside, a cocky smile curving across her lips, and eyes that had suddenly flared to life carefully studying every shift of Ogre's stance. "You know, if either of us had any manners, this would've been settled by now."
She feinted with a quick jab before bending backwards to flip herself up onto a table, pawing at the cutlery and swinging down at Ogre's head with a newly-acquired... napkin.
"Kist!"
Wong Li |
Li assumes an attack stance and readies herself, but does not react just yet, She is doing whatever the equivalent of readying an action is. If they attack, she will follow in kind against Ogre. "Please, don't make me hurt you," she says by way of warning.

Battle in the Bar, Round 2
Escalation Die is at 1
Ogre sneers at Amaryllis.
"I'm going to shut that mouthy yap of yours," he says, lunging at her, but once again comes up with nothing but air.
Ogre fist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Everyone is up!
Wong Li |
Li sighs heavily. She lashes out at the nearest foe, saying, "I do not wish to fight you, but apparently words are wasted on your type."
Punch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Wowzers! Tell me this game has crits!
Amaryllis. |
Elven Grace?: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Amaryllis sways and twists away from Ogre's beefy swings, using only quick jabs and push kicks to earn her the space to maneuver closer to an unattended broomstick...
Flexible Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Carving an Opening again for a running total of +4 Crit range vs. Ogre
Miss Damage: 1 = 1
Snaaga |
Seeing the woman strike one of the big man's companions, Snaaga stealthily palms one of his daggers and moves slowly around the crowd until he is behind the 'Ogre'. He stays in the big man's shadow as much as possible without attracting attention to himself.
Not too sure what, if anything, I might need to roll to complete these actions :-)
GM BrOp |
Crits do exist and always do double damage. Did everyone remember to add +1 for the Escalation die?
Ogre's companions seem content to let the fight play out without them getting involved, at least until Nilus calls them out.
"Oi, you sit down old man before you hurt yourself!" one of them calls out to the ex-mercenary, standing up fand advancing towards him.
Nilus, you want to punch that guy? He's not actively going after anyone.
Wong Li, I'm guessing that you want to punch Ogre since none of his co-workers have joined the fight yet?
Snaaga, please make a Background check with either Dexteriy or Charisma (your choice). I'm guessing that your Assassin background is probably the most appropriate. Background checks are always: 1d20 + Points in the Appropriate Background + Ability Score Modifier + Level
Amaryllis avoids the large man's paws but clearly manages to tire him out a bit.
GM BrOp |
Li walks in front of Amaryllis and punches the large man square in the nose with a force that suprises even her. His head snaps back and he falls back to come crashing down on the chair behind him, obliterating it to splinters. Down on the floor, Ogre carries a confused, stunned expression as blood begins to flow from his nose.
The action produces two immediate consequences: Ogre's four companions jump up and move in front of him, and across the bar, the owner lets out a yell and shouts: "Hey! Stop breaking my bar! This is a respectable establishment. Take this fight outside or I'll throw you out!" He then begins to shout for the kitchen staff.
While everyone's eyes are drawn to the action around Ogre, Amaryllis, and Li, Snaaga sneaks around behind the large man.
Snaaga, you can still take an action if you like. Nilus and Canellir, you as well.
Snaaga |
Snaaga kneels down and places his wicked dagger against the throat of the 'Ogre'.
"Ok, now we are going to stop this before it gets any more...deadly. Tell your friends to stand down and we shall go our separate ways. Either that or I give you a second smile right here!"
He presses the edge of the knife against the man's throat..drawing a small line of blood in the process.
GM BrOp |
Snaaga, that seems like a form of Indimidation. Please roll Cha + Relevant Background + Level to see if Ogre is cowed. Due to the knife to the throat, you should also give yourself a +2 on the roll.
