Cole Burrns |
Cole automatically assumes the female goblinoid's question was meant to be non-rhetorical.
"Its a big tower-thing filled with undead and necromancy energies near Ustalav. My old tribe in Belkzen would often send some of their fiercest to try and just get near it. Most did not come back having been killed by the vigilant soldiers keeping people away from the cursed place, and the rest by the hordes of undead that roam the area nearby. Some did make it back eventually, but they were always different after that, and they usually learned a few things in the process too... After I left Belkzen, I worked for a while as a mercenary hunting down rogue undead that wandered too far from the place. That's where I found my old sword here. Finest blade I've ever seen with the exception of most nobility or paladin's blades and such,. It took me a while to learn how to use it too. Anyway, dead SHOULD stay dead in my opinion, but I got bored with burning bones constantly. Had to move on. Now I'm here."
He turns his head from the fire finally, having never removed his eyes from it until this point.
"Never saw you two there. But I never got into the 'shadow' of the 'spire either. No one goes there. No one sane that is."
Nozhe |
”I’m aware of it’s reputation.” Nozhe replies. Filtering through the half-orc’s brief history she didn’t want to come off completely as non-diplomatic if there was no gain so she added ”I concur on your excellent opinion.”
Though she didn’t say anything about his sword her eyes did give the sword a compliment as she focused on the craftsmanship more so than on the owner.
”I was more... curious about what these two were doing in the shadows of that fell place, as you bring up.”
Dravox Maragon |
Only... just met each other?!
His eyes narrow as he scans each of the four already around the fire. It seems highly unlikely. Better keep an eye out, it could be a setup to rob us overnight.
He puts it out of his mind while Grx continues the conversation. He vaguely snaps to attention when he asks how long they've been traveling together.
Hmm, yes, give or take a fortnight.
There they go again, bragging about their drinks.
Yes, strips paint. Just make sure not to sniff it too much before you drink it, like that one time...
As they continue on Dravox drops into his own reverie of practicing very simple magics that others likely don't even notice. He gesticulates towards small stones for moments before they dim and take on a slightly shadowy form, as if something had blocked out the moon for only them.
Iolandra Zamfi |
Perception (w/low light vision): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
As the other's exchange stories, Iolandra quietly watches as the quiet hooded one engages in some form of shadowy magic on random objects nearby. So far he was the only person to show anything besides a physical threat. Though he seemed more to be doing it out of habit, or as a comfort.
"Nozhe and I have traveled together for a while, the wilds are not easy on a lone wolf." she says gazing at the fire before her looking at each of the others, her violet eyes looking like amethysts in the glint of firelight. "What I meant was we just met them...three pairs of travelers meeting in this vast open stretch of forest. An unusual thing to happen."
Grx'Tryn |
Grx'tryn laughs loudly, his mirth filling the opening and echoing into the night beyond. Oh yes! That was the first time I had tried it. you did warn me, but.. Grx'tryn sets the bottle down onto the ground next to his bag. ah, we all do dumb things. Didnt i end up running naked through that small village where we discovered this stuff? chuckling again, Grx'tryn gnashes more on the last bits of ribs and rib meat.
Listening to Cole, Grx nods along. But, he grows stone still at the mention of sanity. Who says we're sane? The half orge meets the gaze of the half orc, and holds it for a long moment. Silent, still. It isnt a look of insanity, of those that have lost their mind, of the look of rage that barbarians tend to get when in the heat of combat, nor did it hold any warmth, any compassion either. it was a single gaze devoid of any and all emotions. A void, where emotion was destroyed.
Grx'tryn purses his lips and blinks, and the void, the emptyness is removed from his gaze, and a smirk plays upon his lips as the flames cast moving shadows upon his features.
Well, it's just like tonight, funny enough. I was travelling from the north in the Tusk Mountains; finished a job in one of the mining encampments. Wanted to head south to, oh where was the place? he snaps his fingers as he waves his hand about in an attempt to think. Thronestep! Thats the place![/]b he snaps a final time to emphasize his point [b]Thronestep. was heading there Because there was more work to be done. Only ended up in the shadow cuz my map was incomplete. Didnt show gallowspire, nor the mountains there. The map showed a road running through the area, so i followed the road. Sure there was some undead, but nothing to write home about. When i set up camp for that second night, looking at that strange spike thrust into the sky, thats when Dravox found me. He sat with me, we chatted, shared food, campfire was warm and toasty. he told me that if i kept going on my current path, id be dead by half day. He helped fill in my map, and we decided to head west. Just wandered since.
Indeed it is strange. seems the gods above and below, and those around us, seem to have woven our fates to link up. grx'tryn stands up and walks over to Cuddles, and squats down next to the bags. He picks one up and begins to shift it around, inspecting it.
these bags you have here? are they yours? or someone elses?
Grx'Tryn |
Grx'tryn does a double take at Cuddles. Back soon? Ummm... Grx look at Dravox, then out back the way we came in. The half orge scratches his chin Er, Cuddles. You...Well, how about you come with me. I, unfortunately, have something to show you. Grx leans down and picks up both packs and slings them over his shoulder.
If Cuddles has no objections, Grx'tryn will lead him back to the elf bodies
Cuddles |
Cuddles thinks for a moment. The words were complicated, but "come with me" was in the middle. Cuddles should probably follow then. He wonders what Grax has hidden.
He stands and follows as he finishes up his dinner.
When he is shown the bodies. He sighs. Utt ohhh. Not good. Cuddles can't make the paper full alone. His face falls and shoulders slump. Elf friends was the bosses. They was smart and brave. And have pretty names that make me head hurt. So pretty names. He kneels and scoops them both up, one in each arm. He then lumbers back to camp.
Coming into the firelight, he skirts the edge of camp and deposits two bodies next to the mound of fresh earth that was the comfy bed of the guy who had tried to stab him. Part of Cuddles wonders if the guy will ever wake up or if he was like the Elf friends. He then retrieves a shovel that's more like a tree trunk with a breastplate attached and proceeds to move a staggering amount of earth in a breathtakingly short period of time. He has two six foot graves dug in a matter of minutes.
Dravox Maragon |
Dravox bobs his head back and forth, half-agreeing with Grx's account of their meeting.
Hmm... ssort of. What I said was that I thought you had greater things to do with your life than die in such simple way. I'm a reasonable judge of character and sense things.
The pale man frowns at the mention of fate.
I think the gods have better things to do than sling random folk together in the dead of night. We make our own fate, and this still seems an unlikely happenstance.
Later, Grx glances at him and then the way out. Dravox simply chuckles.
Right. They have to see sometime.
He let's them go see but isn't overly interested in witnessing the reaction so he continues to play with his shadow cantrips by the fire.
Dravox Maragon |
As Cuddles drags the bodies back to camp, Dravox stops and looks up.
Yes, very sad. Did they have anything... arcane on them?
He stands, gesticulates, and mutters in low Draconic for a moment before casting his arcane eye on the bodies.
Cast detect magic.
Cole Burrns |
Frowning at the dead elves, Cole worries about Cuddles. He'd seen orc warriors run off the hing for less.
"Cuddles? Would you rather we burned them as our ancestors require? I don't know elfin burial rituals, but most people don't mind such an end. Helps return the body to the world that birthed them. I can do it quick and clean...and it would keep starving animals from sniffing them out for food."
Iolandra Zamfi |

"Though burial allows them to feed the land, an end that most elves would not find unfitting." Iolandra adds as she watches the massive orc go about digging a grave for his friends.
As Nozhe chides Dravox on his blatant desire to loot the bodies, she shakes her head. Her companion seemed to have some ties to the souls of fallen warriors, and would no doubt not appreciate them being dishonored. At the same time once dead, most had no use for the material. Either way, given his interest in arcane items, it would likely do them all good to secure their gear before settling down, should they all decide to camp together.
Grx'Tryn |
Easy now. Grx'tryn says to no one in particular, but to all the same. Dravox is a bit pragmatic in his approach, but you get used to it. If he meant disrespect, you'd know it.
Grx walks over to where Cuddles is digging his holes. Were they good friends, Cuddles? Or just elves you worked with?
Cole Burrns |
"But...the fire..."
Suppressing his urge to ignite the bodies by force, Cole shrugs and just tries to hide his longings.

'Wonderful, one is magic obsessed, and likely as dangerous as I thought given, the loud one's "warning", and the most normal-seeming of them so far is a pyromaniac.'
Grx'Tryn |
Grx'tryn squints his eyes and tilts his head slightly, concentrating on what Cuddles has said. Fancy papers...wax seal.
scratching his chin, Grx'tryn turns and walks over to the fire and sits upon a log. He unshoulders the two bags, and sets them down in front of him. He starts pulling stuff out of one bag, and then another, looking for some fancy paper.
im going to assume that i dont need a perception check to find this paper in one of the bags.
Finally, with items spread around him in an attempt to categorize the items, food, clothing, rope, traveling gear, other papers, grx finally finds that fancy paper with the large heavy wax seal pressed upon it's surface.

The male elfs rent studded leather armor detects as magical. Though its in such bad shape you arent sure how viable it is. The elf woman's quiver radiates a residual magic though it itself isnt magic as far as you can tell.

Anyone with an intelligence of 12 or more quickly notices the official sealed document just mentions "the bearer" of the charter not a specific name. Congratulations you have an official charter to hunt bandits and scout the lands!
In example if your amulet held 3 portions of soul, you could grant yourself a +3 bonus to hit for 10 minutes, a +1 bonus to hit for 30 minutes, a +2 to hit for 20 minutes. A charge may be used for either a bonus or an additional ten minutes of bonus. Once a portion of soul is used it dissapates in the nether.
Finally despite being a valkyrie you can hold a portion of a worthy males soul within the amulet as well.

Only partially listening as Grx'tryn reads the charter, Iolandra feels an unmistakable pull, almost....a whisper, a call that draws her eyes to a small leather pouch, lying among the items strewn about from the female elf's pack. Tugging on the drawstring, the druidess fins a quartet of acorns, that hum with power to her fey sensitive energy.
Taking a breath, she didn't even realize she was holding, she stares at the acorns, her voice hushed in respect for the power she senses within. "These are...so much power within...waiting for but the smallest touch of green magic to awaken."
Coming out of her reverie she puts them back into the pouch, closing it . "Your friends, were strong indeed, the land welcomes them back into her embrace."
Grx'Tryn |
Wait a minute! Grx'tryn stands up, his face filled with excitement and surprise! The bearer! Not specific person named! Gods below and above! This is incredible! Dravox! Come see!explore the area, hunt down bandits. Explore, sure, thats easy. Look, a hill over there! A creek there Easy enough. Kill some bandits. Done. A region to pacify and make our own.
Cole Burrns |
Cole looks hesitant, and sighs.
"Make our own? What does that even mean? With OUR kind? No offense Iolandra, but do you really think Grx'Tryn that most humans would let people like us run our own land without major repercussions or concessions? I'm only half-orc, but I still know what its like to live on the outside from BOTH sides. I've never been really accepted in human or non-human lands easily. We're TOLERATED sure, for our abilities or usefulness. Once that ends... What's to prevent them from 'pacifying' US once we kill those bandits? Assuming the bandits are human themselves? What if some of them are orcs or goblins?"
He then shakes his head and goes back to staring at the campfire with longing.
"You're dreaming a dream of the Damned...or just stupid. You would have a safer time making a deal with a true devil! At least THEY are obligated to maintain contracts by magic itself. Face reality: Our kind doesn't get the 'glory' or the 'girl'. Again, no offense meant 'ladies, I'm just trying to make a point. We aren't the picture perfect story-book heroes. And treasure? Who do you think the 'Good Heroes' will hunt and kill to 'earn' that treasure? Our kind, that who. And don't forget...this region is nasty mix of forests, swamps, open plains AND mountains to deal with. Who would want to live here? Lonely Witches? Fey? Tribal barbarians? Those kinds of people don't really like to pay taxes as I understand."
Dravox Maragon |
The mage sets aside his search for magic booty for a moment to come see what Grx is so excited about.
Looking over his shoulder, the pale man remarks Ah! A charter, and with no names, which we now hold. Very good! He seems genuinely interested in the opportunity that it presents.
He eyes it carefully to see how it's certified or authorized. Is that perception or appraise?
I wonder how many of these are floating around. Is this truly an exclusive claim?
Dravox smirks a bit to himself at Cole's remarks. If the orcs can muster power and maintain control of Belkzen, we can do so here. You just have to get... creative.
His smile deepens as he runs over the idea in his head.
Nozhe |
Nozhe arches a brow as Iolandra reverently talks to the seed pouch but doesn't otherwise comment on the turn of events.
When Cole goes off on a tangent she rolls her eyes. "You're confusing mercenary public service killings with being storybook heroes. And you said it yourself. If no one wants to come down here, who's going to come make you leave? Especially if you take care of the bandits."
DM The nines |
Dravox As far as you can tell, the seal looks very official. You dont think Cuddles has the ability to well fake something like that. As for it being exclusive. Ask Cuddles he may know.
You dont remember a lot of the speech the man who gave you and your elf friends the scroll because of all the good food they had there. But you are pretty sure you were supposed to well, kill all the band aids in the region then see about establishing a village or something for people to come live here so bandits dont come back. Teleandri..tele... Tealeaf (what you called the female elf words are hard) told you once they were establish you were going to be the big boss of a jail if they had to lock bad folk up.
Grx'Tryn |
Coward. Grx'tryn mutters under his breath.
Thank you Nozhe Grx'tryn nods at the goblinoid.
Taking a deep breath in Yes. OUR land. Not theirs. Not anyone else. Ours. A place for monsters like us to call home. a place where those that society look down upon and use, casting off and discarding once our "usefulness" has run it's course. And, at the end of the day, we dont need permissions to do anything. Are you not a free orc? free to make your own decisions? Your own freedom of movement, of choice, of action, has led you to be here, by this fire. There isnt anything stopping us from starting something here and now, with or without this paper. However Grx'tryn waves the paper around to emphasize his point This paper grant's us a certain level of protection. "we" are authorized to take out any bandits. We can use this as a guise to pacify this region. Pacify can mean what we want it to mean. Kill bandits, or convince them to join us. We just turn a blind eye to their previous actions. Basically, we tell the bandits that they can join us and have their executions delayed, or they can accept the sword or noose at that moment.
Grx'tryn lowers his hand to his side. what would be the allure of this place? at the end of the day, it would be protection. Protection for those humans that would seek to destroy those of us they see as a threat. One of us is an annoyance. Sure, we can kill some of the humans and dwarves and elves, but they band together and push back against the threat. We here need to band together. We need to be willing to not only see to our immediate needs, like food, shelter, water, and keep our sense of self, but we as a group, need to recognize that together we are all stronger. again, one of us is an annoyance, two of us is a threat, 20 of us makes them take pause, thousands, they question the sacrifice. it is a dream. But at the end it is a dream worth having, worth believing in. In trying to achieve. Im not going to claim its going to be this wonderland of peace, prosperity, and togetherness. that's for them weird ones.
You mention swamps, mountains, plains, rivers, forests. I see resources for us to utilize. For quick capital, we raid the bodies for gold, any gold found, a portion of it would be held in reserve... basically a tax. For continued success, for continued riches, we establish trade. We find resources that the surrounding communities need and want, we trade. But that's a more in depth conversation for later.
Grx'tryn looks at Cole, an even look, one filled with understanding. You keep running, youll end up exhausted. it's time to stop running. Stop running from the fear that sits like a small ember at the back of your mind, where youre afraid that the fear will flare up and consume you. Help me start this. Or you'll regret this for the rest of your life.
trying to make the case without needing to roll a diplomacy check.
Good point Dravox. perhaps we will have to take steps to ensure it becomes exclusive

Words flurry around Cuddles like flakes in a blizzard. He understands precious few of them, so he keeps quiet as the others discuss the paper. It seems very important indeed, for Grox to be waving it about like that. He liked to talk. He must be a leader. That DriveOx guy seemed to be interested too, but Coal was hesitant. Grox must be trying to comvince Coal to help Cuddles finish filling out the Fancy Papers.
Cuddles just hopes he picks up Lucy's trail soon. He had a hint she came this way in a caravan, but hasn't seen anything of her yet. Maybe these others have seen her? He decides to ask later.

Cole Burrns |
Standing slowly and pacing while waiting for things to calm for a short minute, Cole will respond clearly.
"Fear? Yes fear. Fear is healthy. Its what keeps you alive long enough to see the next day in most cases. I say respect your fear or lose your head to the next dragon that comes along wanting to make you a meal...or just an example out of you. And I dare say there are probably at least one or two dragons around here that might object to any 'monster kingdom' you want to make. Not unless you want to become its slave army or some such thing. Fear does not always consume, often it drives one to...other things."
He waves his hand suddenly as if to shoo a fly.
"I digress. Let's say we kill the bandits and 'take' the land. Who would rule? All of us? You would trust former bandits to work for you? Bandits? I've known better blood-thirsty orc barbarians I would trust before I would trust any human bandits with my life. On top of that we would need people willing to move and live here in these lands that come from other regions. What incentives would you give them? What protections? What rights? Would 'monsters' rule over men, or would they be as equals? You brush over a lot of important talk for someone so big he can't hide behind a bush without his ass hanging out. Call me a coward all you want, I know my worth and what I'm willing to do to survive and thrive."
He then pauses for moment again, contemplating.
"You have convinced me of nothing, but I find myself with few better options. I ended up here in the middle of nowhere following my own choices and the consequences of other ones I made. If you want to 'hunt' bandits with a 'license' to do so, I won't stop you and will even attempt to help in the endeavor...at least for Cuddles sake to keep him out of trouble. But if this goes the way you think it might, then you need to realize the difference between ruling and being ruled over is a much bigger gap than you can ever imagine."
With that he glances at the fire and the large pile of wood next to it.
"We need more wood."
He then turns and walks off into the dark, not wanting to hear what the others will say about his little speech.
That's the most words I've said in one day to so many people at once in...years. Did the big guy hit a nerve? Or are you just THAT desperate Cole? Remember, you always have the fire Cole! The DEEPER FLAME. Never forget that...
Dravox Maragon |
Dravox smiles subtly as Grx continues on with his spontaneous pep-talk.
Yess, this is why he will rally many to his side. These others around the fire will be grateful they were there at the beginning...
After listening to Cole, he pauses for several moments before responding.
Hmm... thatss what they want is for you to heed your fear. When others are involved, you're ceding them control. We're not talking about standing in front of a Tarrasque here, but fear used by those who might not best you otherwise. And yes, that is the point, there are many without better options, and those will find themselves as equals here. We start small, after sufficient deeds word may get out that something sspecial is happening here.
Iolandra Zamfi |
Iolandra watches the conversation, observing Grx'Tryn's grandiose plans and Cole's objections, occasionally sharing a glance with Nozhe.
"So...you fancy yourself a king?"
Nozhe |
Nozhe's eyes glaze over as the half-ogre begins his impassioned monologue. She had heard many such appeals to fervor in her life, whether in audience or in teaching, some earnest, and some base, most were deluded one way or the other. And that just made the speakers all the more dangerous, let alone those they preached to. And that's without even getting into having bandits as citizens.
At Iolandra's occasional movements and tells the hobgoblin brought her mind back from wandering toward things more interesting. "Lovely motivational rant, but conquering and ruling are two very different yet equally dangerous games. Just because you can excel at one does not mean that you're fit for the other. Or that you'd even want to." she adds.
Grx'Tryn |
Grx looks at Iolandra, a slight sneer comes to his face. King is not a word id use for myself, nor adopt by my own admission. I have seen how the corruption of royalty through association can easily attach itself to people with the title King. No, nothing so haughty. I hold no delusions of my self or sense of worth. I am but an Ogre who recognizes an opportunity when it presents itself. I am the first to admit, I am no saint. I am not someone who has been raised with the purpose of ruling a State, or lesser province. All that i know, i have learned from personal experience and interactions with others.
Focusing upon Nozhe as she speaks, Grx'tryn makes and keeps an even eye contact with her. Nodding, he replies Rant? the half-ogre chuckles slightly. No. Just passionate. Grx'tryn opens the paper and looks at it again but responds to Nohze. Youre correct. Conquering and ruling are two different talents. one requires an absolute desire to crush any opposition in order to complete the mission. The other requires a more deft touch, a tease here, a firmness there, a willingness to be forceful, and the knowledge of when to be gentle.
Grx'tryn looks away, up into the night sky, and continues to speak I have killed. I have ripped the life of individuals; goblins, humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, all from their bodies. This would be the time when an individual says but i did it in self defence. But I have not. I have done what i needed to to survive. I admit this not to elicit compassion or empathy, but to be honest, so you understand the Ogre who talks to you tonight. for the role of conquerer, to subject people, i can be, but i prefer not to
looking back down at the group, he looks at Dravox. But, I have a friend. A companion. One who has helped me through thick and thin. One has given good advice. One who has provided unique insight to difficult decisions. A leader needs this, a ruler needs this and more.
looking up, grx'tryn look from Nohze, to cole, to cuddles (whom Grx smiles at), and finally at Iolandra. I am no king. Never claimed it. But, if we were to do this, I would like the opportunity to prove myself to be first amongst equals.
Nozhe |
Nozhe takes in what the man has to say. And makes mental notes.
"No. Just passionate."
That's not a disagreement.
"Youre correct. Conquering and ruling are two different talents. one requires an absolute desire to crush any opposition in order to complete the mission. The other requires a more deft touch, a tease here, a firmness there, a willingness to be forceful, and the knowledge of when to be gentle."
Not technically wrong but not the point I was getting at, at least he can tell the difference.
"I admit this not to elicit compassion or empathy, but to be honest, so you understand the Ogre who talks to you tonight."
Is an Ogre.
"But, I have a friend. A companion. One who has helped me through thick and thin. One has given good advice. One who has provided unique insight to difficult decisions. A leader needs this, a ruler needs this and more."
Nozhe tilts her head, though she resists the urge to shamelessly cast a glance at the Fetchling who the Ogre has spoken so highly of, their first meeting thus far, still not concluded granted, was not an overwhelming vote of confidence for either of the two.
"I am no king. Never claimed it. But, if we were to do this, I would like the opportunity to prove myself to be first amongst equals."
"A king by a different name," she finally says. "King, Tyrant, Minister, First Citizen. Different names, same reigns. The name doesn't matter, only the actions of the one burdened with it."
Grx'Tryn |
Grx'tryn smirks at Nohze and points at his nose, and throws a wink at Iolandra. Indeed. Actions speak louder than words. You both have just met me, and as such, aside from being a random Ogre who literally walked out of the wood work, you have no reason to believe a single word i said. And youre both correct. To ask so much from you two ladies is asking too much. And you as well, Cole. And the good man Cuddles.
Grx'try turns and walks around the fire, peering at it. He reaches out and holds the writ in his hand, near the fire. Since actions speak louder than words, perhaps i should just burn this then. If I truly beileved in this opportunity, then I should be willing to become a rebel, a bandit to Brevoy, willingly risking his life in the face of the Dragonscale throne to attempt to subdue the lands so that he can carve out a place that, in the end, a place he can call home. Granted, this task would be easier to do with an official document providing safeguard until such a time as a nation state is formed and official notice is sent to the surrounding lands declaring our freedom from other nations. But, if an official declaration must be made tonight, an action to showcase my resolve, then so be it. Grx'tryn holds the paper out to the flames, a hands breath from the point where the paper would catch fire.
just an FYI to everyone, i'll be heading up north this weekend, so my posting may be limited at best until monday.
Nozhe |
"Go for it, I won't lose any sleep." Nozhe simply says when Grx'Tryn tries to work an ultimatum into his speech. "We can count our time known in mere minutes, an appeal to emotions only works if there's emotional strings to pull and play with."
"Also unless you carry an office full of notaries in your back pocket nothing said here in the middle of nowhere is 'official'."

Carrying fresh firewood back from the nearby darkness, Cole dumps it on the pile near the campfire. Seeing Grx'Tryn's intention, he quickly snatches the document from the half-man, examining the seal in the firelight to make sure it is undamaged.
"You aren't qualified to burn that. Consigning such a document to flame is a waste of the fire itself. Fire shouldn't be just for destroying and making your point. It should be constructive, offering a renewal in the universe somewhere. Besides if you burn that, all you do it make things harder if you really want to do what you say. I HATE doing things the hard way."
With that, he walks over to the dark-sorcerer shaking his head and hands him the carefully folded document.
"Take care of that. I assume as his...Seneschal?...you understand such things better than he does."
Cole then returns to his spot by the fire, throwing on more wood onto an already blazing fire without a care. He stares at it as if it was the only thing in the world that matters.
"Only the mysteries of the Deeper Fire matter. Anything else is... just noise."
Dravox Maragon |
Dravox watches curiously as the note is held up to the flame, before it is then suddenly snatched away. He accepts the document from Cole.
Hmm. He understands fine. He just likes to make points.
He stuffs it into an inner pocket of his cloak.
