I can see our "ruler" easily being the first among equals "head" of some kind of monster council. I think some of us are talking more in the mechanical sense where certain stats apply to kingdom building modifiers than actual rule. I know I am. Cuddles has the training to be a sheriff but him recognizing who needs to be arrested... might be an issue.

Fluff wise I see no problem with the party being a ruling council or something along those lines.

Cause we’re playing Kingmaker with the kingdom building rules. Removing positions/features and we start veering more away from what we signed up for. Also I have no idea what all complications/extra work for the GM removing positions would cause.

Regardless, something we need to keep in mind is that, even more so than other campaigns, this is a cooperative team game, major changes/decisions need to be gone over with the group. In play the Ruler won’t be absolute with everyone else having to do what they say without question.

I'm not against a ruler, just seems like nobody want to be the ruler. The GM seems amenable, so...

Very true. In some ways, I could see being the leader, but in other ways, I'd fit high priest being the one promoting the Green faith.

Also, some people might be more organic in letting a leader develop as we play rather than decide it all ahead of time.

Royal Enforcer
The Royal Enforcer deals with punishing criminals, working with the Councilor to make sure the citizens feel the government is adequately dealing with wrongdoers, and working with the Marshal to capture fugitives from the law. The Royal Enforcer may grant civilians the authority to kill in the name of the law.

Benefit: Add your Dexterity modifier or Strength modifier to Loyalty. During the Upkeep phase, you may decrease Unrest by 1 (this is not affected by having the Leadership feat); if you do so, you must succeed at a Loyalty check or Loyalty decreases by 1.

Vacancy Penalty: None.

What's the idea for our introduction (in order to create backstory that leads there)


If folks are drawing a blank let me know I have a few ideas on backstories and why you might be together. I just dont want to like pressure or bogart anyones creative flow.

Depends on how this confidant feels about physical punishment and mental torment for giving bad avice to his king? =)

Actually, id be fine with it. Was thinking id have the half ogre start off as chaotic neutral to establish himself, but as story progresses,and to be an efficient ruler, transition to more lawful neutral or lawful evil, along the lines of "might makes right".

it would be a more unique way for the characters to meet up, instead of the traditional the tavern was dark and moody, resentment and depression filling the air as the patrons all drank their liquor to drown out the sorrows that affected their dull, dreary lives...

I was originally thinking Cuddles joined the expedition because a local prankster tried to convince him that leaving his nice job and going exploring would be fun. He didn't think it would work. He underestimated Cuddles's gullibility.
I could easily switch it around to where a criminal syndicate got ahold of cuddles instead of the local guard garrison. That could easily land him in prison.

I hadn't mentioned it, because i didnt think about it, buy to address some folks concerns, Please be aware despite being outsiders in general I was expecting civilizations to be built. That does as some folk mentioned require a certain amount of not necessarily playing nice but definitely not playing evil as an outsider.

For party gathering...

Cuddles you did indeed join an expedition to map our the stolen lands. A nice elf man and his elf wife. They were pretty nice to you, and she made nice food. You were out foraging and came back to find the small camp ransacked. Some dirty human (no really he needed to bath, even you know its important sometimes to get in the water and wash off all the smell) was there poking about their stuff. When you asked him where the nice elf's were he tried to stab you with his sword. He wouldnt stop so you hugged him to get him to calm down. You may have accidently broke him.

You have been staying at that camp for about a week now, waiting for the elfies to return. You put the dirty human body in a hole cause it was starting to smell bad.

Cole - you feld from the more civilized regions of the river kingdoms after a 'mistake' with chickens. You were doing them a favor really pratically a bbq feast. They made the mistake of not fully locking your cell door, and you waited til dark to make your escape. you traveled east towards Brevoy. Nobles there were always hiring folk for things, you had a skillset that could get you work maybe. I mean sometimes things happened right. It was late and you were getting so tired when you saw it in the distance. The flame of a fire, not a large one, but big enough you knew it had to be someone there. You caught a whiff of meat probably burning, but hey char was a flavor you enjoyed really. So you made your way towards it warily. Cautiously you approached confounded what you saw. A huge hulking orc was sitting there staring off into the fire. It looked like a camp set for three, but he was the only there. You approached to discover the orc was waiting for his copatriots, nice elfies he was hired to look after while they mapped the stolen lands there for a lady with a sword and a mayor in Brevoy. He told you his name was Cuddles.

Nozhe The last soul from an ill fated mercenary job had just passed the day before and the few remaining warriors in the encampment were nervous. A Lord in Brevoy had hired 2 dozen of your finest warriors for some campaign to eliminate banditsin southern untamed lands many moons ago. Two came crawling into the camp last night delirious from many wounds. The old tribal shamen, herself a follower of Mrtyu had you help her prepare those warriors for death even while they still breathed laborously. The chieftain of your tribe, for once in your life looked worried. It was clear that whatever mission they had been on they had failed. These lands wouldnt welcome warriors who couldnt be counted on. Perhaps it was time to leave to new lands.
The spirit dream took you late at night in your tent in your clan's encampment.
"Go south, young Nozhe to the lands that bandits rule. Make way for your peoples remaining souls to inhabit and begin to prosper once more.Look for signs to guide you."
With the shamen's blessings and the Cheiftains approval you found yourself heading south. That was a few weeks ago. You found yourself in an old forest watching a large orc go about a campsite quietly. He was cooking food badly. Another figure approached from the south, it was clear they did not know each other. The large orc however continued to act strangely. He invited the stranger in. Was this one of the signs you were to be looking for? You approached the campsite to find out.

oh, i wanted to put this down before i forgot about it.

im taking the bastard kingmaker background trait,

so i was thinking, for my background of my character, to keep it vague since im unfamiliar with this adventure path, that my half ogre would claim royal blood through an ancient line that traces back to the lands that are now consumed by the worldwound.

or, since my characters age is rather young, id claim that a grandparent of mine is king/queen of a foreign land, and i was banished due to the embarrassment of having a half ogre in the family tree. or something like that.

Just an FYI: My dad went into the hospital tonight with heart problems. I'm not allowed to go help since my mom is the only one allowed to be with him right now with Covid restrictions. But things may get weird for me over the next week or two unless he gets better. Regardless, all I'm saying is be patient on my responses here for the game. I want to post when I can, but I may be erratic at best unless things change/get better.

Thanks for the well-wishes guys! My father is doing better and stable, but has a large blood-clot in his lung. They are going to try and dissolve it, but his health has been failing for years now to a mysterious lung disease. Truthfully he needs a lung transplant, but right now with Covid...just not possible.
