GM Kate |
Hi, folks! This will be a session of 2-00: The King in Thorns for Outpost IV!
Please sign up in accordance with the rules of the con outlined here.
I'm looking forward to this game!
Locke of Highdelve |
I may be swapping to a more experimental character, but in the meantime I've dotted in with Locke.
I'll be running a higher tier of this concurrently. Most of the surprises will probably be spoiled, but I look forward to experiencing the author's spin.

Since we're being on this for the Introduction phase, I'm going to push, forgive me:
Boost Allied Offensive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
EDIT: As Locke steps in to strike from behind, he trips on a rock and fails to catch his target by surprise.
Pass to GM Valen's table.
And we need to attempt to boost and pass one of the others for this section before the end of the section.
GM Kate |
4. A new course needs to be charted through the wilderness.
5. A mushroom gate is acting as a portal to allow fey creatures in.
3. Some new Pathfinders could use some help.
1. Some animals are acting weird.
2. Some plants are acting weird.
6. Things aren't what they seem in another part of the jungle.
Listing the proposed order here for reference
Blanka Cassa |
Blanka intimidates the shrubbery (and pushes right through when it isn't intimidated)
Locke of Highdelve |
Here's a copy of the Tier 5-6 information on boons. I'm intentionally not looking at the DCs for our Tier (I could guess), but I did adjust the effect to our Tier.
We start with 4, one of each, to pass to other tables and can't use them on ourselves. What's most important at the moment is who should attempt a boost. We have Healing, Knowledge, and Inspiration currently to boost and 1 to pass this section. We have yet to receive any for us to use.
Allied Offensive
Effect: +1d6 to an attack
To Boost: Make a Strike check vs. DC ?
Boost Effect: +1d6 more damage
Burst of Healing
Effect: 1d8 healing to all PCs
To Boost: cast a spell with the healing trait or make a Medicine check vs. DC ?
Boost Effect: +1d8 more healing
Provide Knowledge
Effect: gain an automatic success on a Recall Knowledge check
To Boost: make an Arcana, Divine, Nature, Occultism, or Religion check vs. DC ?
Boost Effect: gain an automatic critical success on a Recall Knowledge check
Timely Inspiration
Effect: party benefits from inspire courage for 1 round
To Boost: make a performance check vs. DC ?
Boost Effect: duration is 2 rounds
Locke of Highdelve |
Skimming through profiles, I would suggest Argoni boost Healing with Medicine +8 and Knowledge with Occultism +8 and Capricio boost Inspiration with Performance (I've already forgotten the number but it's higher than everyone else's).
EDIT: This is an extemporaneous mechanic, so we can boost them all now. It's only passing that is limited or strategic (if you hold onto it in case someone specifically calls for it before the end of the Part, but I've not seen that work great in PbP).
Argoni Slate |
Does what skill we use to boost the Recall Knowledge token matter to the effect? For instance, if Argoni uses Occultism vs Arcana does it matter to those who receive it?
Capricio Durey |
If I understand, you'd like to set this up now for when another table needs it?
Capricio takes up his lute and sings an inspiring ode to the open road.
Performance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
GM Hawthwile |
AID TOKEN: Timely Inspiration
Passing From: GM Hawthwile
Passing To: GM Kate
Aid Character Name: Okh - sneaky goblin sorcerer
Effect: A fellow Pathfinder grants the benefits of a bard’s inspire courage focus cantrip to all PCs for 1 round (a +1 status bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, and saves against fear effects).
Boosted: No
Boost Effect: Increase duration by 2 rounds.
GM Kate |
Hey, we have an aid token!
I have no objection to boosting now and then passing when you choose. Note that we can pass one aid token per part of the adventure. (I along with most of the other GMs missed that the prep missions at the beginning counted as a part, so we will pass one more during Part 1.)
Argoni Slate |
Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
I suggest we pass the now-boosted Recall Knowledge one. Seems like that would be helpful in this part of the adventure.
Argoni Slate |
1-2 is fine. I will note that an auto crit-success on a recall knowledge is probably useful at any level unlike just an extra 1d8 of healing or 1d6 of damage.
GM Kate |
So we are passing a boosted Recall Knowledge to another 1-2 table?

Hey, it's our first combat! A few notes on how I run things:
If your name is bolded, go ahead and post, even if the folks before you haven't gone yet!
I keep going back and forth on whether resolving in order of initiative or in order of posting works better for 2e PBP. We'll go with order of posting for now, though I might have to get nit-picky about order if we have a lot of buffs going.
I will sometimes delay an enemy or two to get the PCs into fewer initiative blocks and keep things moving. I will never delay a PC for this reason.
If your default exploration mode activity is Avoid Notice, I assume you always want to roll Stealth for initiative, and I will specifically tell you if that's not possible. Or, of course, you can always say that you're doing something different.
Similarly, if we have someone whose default exploration mode activity is scouting, I'll give everyone the +1 bonus unless that player says they're doing something else.
Let me know if you have any questions!
GM Kate |
Mushroom Ring Disabled: At the beginning of one combat encounter, you can reduce your Challenge Points by 2 for the purposes of scaling the encounter.
This is also listed on Slide 5.
Argoni Slate |
I'm good with whatever combat encounter is next. Like you said, better to use it than forget about it.
