Okay folks! Outpost officially begins tomorrow (2/16) and I will be making an opening post either late tonight, as I am a night owl, or early tomorrow morning before I head to bed. For those who haven't played with me before, I'm a healthcare worker who works graveyard shift so it's most common to see posts from me during the hours of roughly 5pm to 7 or 8 am CST.

While I recognize mostly everyone here, I think I've only had the pleasure of GMing for one or two of you before now. So before we start, here are some ground rules on how I do my GMing. If you've played under GM Blake or Yours is mined, you'll likely recognize all or most of these:

(1) Please make it obvious what buffs you have active and what your AC is.

(2) Miss is always low if a miss chance applies. For example, if there is a 50% miss chance on a melee attack, a result of 1-50 on d100 is a miss. You may roll your own miss chances or you may ask me to roll them for you; either one is fine.

(3) I roll group initiative and track character actions. Unless you state you are waiting for another to act, I will adjudicate those actions in the order they were posted.

(4) You may delay to a later position in the initiative sequence as usual.

(5) If I make a mistake in the current combat round, please let me know and I will try to make it right.

(6) I generally prefer PCs to roll their own saving throws and AoOs but I will roll them for you if a sufficient enough time (usually about 24 hours) has passed without hearing from you. Otherwise...

(7) I very rarely bot characters for absent players and will instead place said character on indefinite delay until they're able to post.

(8) Life happens and I'm the last person to throw shade regarding posting delays. If something comes up that keeps you from posting it's helpful if you can let me know, if only so I don't worry about you (because I do worry when people just go radio silent) and so I can keep the game moving.

Day Job - Profession (Scribe): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

This character has a few odd mechanics I just want to let the party and the GM know about. The Ghostwriter is a vigilante but he never leaves his vigilante identity during scenarios, so the dual identity thing shouldn't be an issue..

He is a stalker and gets Hidden Strike, which is very similar to Sneak Attack. I see we have two other people with rogue levels, so we should work together to get that sweet, sweet flanking.

The Ghostwriter has Orator and Esoteric Linguistics, which lets him use Linguistics for some social skills and to cast off of scrolls.

And finally, he always gets to act on the surprise round, even when caught unawares.

Frankie is a bit of an odd duck. He's technically a Halfling but as far as he's ever known he's a human boy. He's got the feats to back it up, and yes there is a chance to make the perception check, in all respects he acts and thinks himself a boy. Its really just a RP thing that I blew a couple feats on to make more realistic.

He's a rogue/mouser. He takes advantage of the halfling feats that boost and reward fighting defensively. If you want to boost your AC and such, stay adjacent to Frankie in combat.

He's also a bit impulsive and innocent, and of course childish. His mental stats reflect it! He's got no knowledge skills or sense motive, just loaded up on the CHA and DEX based goodies. He doesn't dish out big combat damage, just tries to help keep himself and others safe while being good at a number of skills.

Aiden is a melee debuffer. He's a dirty trick specialist, but he can also intimidate and entangle. Brush up on your conditions. Most of these do require him to flank. He's got a number of wands (and UMD) to buff himself up. He doesn't do a ton of damage on his own, and one of his weaknesses is a low AC, so maybe he'll take advantage of Frankie's abilities!

RP-wise, Aiden is a cruel, but very intelligent, thug. He's caught in Zarta's influence though, so he won't do anything to reflect badly on her. Whether he adores her or is terrified of her, it's not quite clear. Aiden's background is that he was a former Chelaxian slave-catcher (mostly of halflings). I think that would be interesting to play with Frankie, especially since Frankie doesn't consider himself a halfling. But I'm more than willing to tone this down or drop it if people are against slavery as a prop. He's not exactly pro-slavery, just indifferent to it and it was something he made a living from.

Tiera is Inspire Blade/Myrmidon Swashbuckler-Magus-- so he combat style is all about using Opportune Parry & Riposte, while getting into combat and spellstriking.

She has an absurdly high Panache (7), and can use her Arcane Pool to Parry/Riposte as well if she runs out.

I'll spoiler my parry attempts like this:

She also uses Arcane Strike, so I try to be clear on which exact buffs are active at any time!

And she does have Combat Reflexes so multiple AOOs are possible.

A wand of inflict and some potions do sound appropriate. Maybe the Society would trade in any positive healing items for negative ones? Some scrolls of Hide from Undead might be good too.

I mentioned this in my last gameplay post, but I think infernal healing might still work as normal as it doesn't depend on positive energy. I do have a wand of infernal healing that I'm willing to share; but unfortunately the Ghostwriter would need somebody else to cast off it.

Not having normal access to healing is a problem, especially since investing in inflict consumables for this one scenario can be costly and likely leave characters with a lot of unused resources.

Maybe I'll have Frankie ask nicely about us being able to turn in our regular healing wands/potions for the inflict equivalent, and then have the option of turning remainders back over for the equivalent after. I can't imagine a scenario with this sort of design wouldn't have some sort of account for this.

*Another option would be for us to pool group gold and divide up the cost of a wand or two of inflict light wounds, then at the end of the scenario sell that off and redistribute that gold to the group. I'd rather not have a wand of inflict light of 45/50 charges sitting on my sheet forever.

It's only 750 gp so not all that expensive. And if it is being shared across the entire party I suspect it will get a heck of a lot of use. I think it worth the investment, particularly if we all put 150 gp towards it. And remember that any we do not use can be sold back at half price.

The infernal healing is a great idea, but I'm not sure Guy would go for it because of the evil aura. But all of my less savory characters swear by them.

I mean is infernal healing *really* any worse pumping negative energy into yourself? But, seriously I understand not wanting to use that spell on your character. I never use it on my good characters either.

I'm fine with shelling out for a wand and selling it latter. That is definitely the most economical option. Since Ghostwriter can't use a wand but can use scrolls, I think I will still pick up two inflict light wound scrolls so that he has a way to heal others. And I do have my wand of infernal healing as a backup, which Molos could hold onto.

I've been considering how Guy would feel about ILW. Since it is necromantic but not evil, I think he would look on it with distaste but not outright aversion. In a pinch he would use it, like if it were a matter of life or death or the party was in real bad need of healing and without it someone might die. But if they are just a beat up he would turn his nose up at it.

Infernal healing is a bit worse since it produces an evil taint (and has the evil descriptor). He will avoid that unless he is unconscious and someone forces it upon him.

Okay, hopefully Valsin's answers will make what to expect a little more clear! You'll have time to pick up additional scrolls, wands, etc. on top of the 8 potions of Inflict Moderate Wounds you'll be provided with.

Regarding the Infernal Healing question, yes, it'll work on undead just as well as on the living! So if any of you happen to already have such wands or wish to purchase one, they'll definitely work. Of course you may feel a bit icky after using one due to the whole 'evil' thing and all...

Also, if Frankie wants to be an Elvis impersonator then he needs to call himself Bubba Ho-tep :P

8 potions among the 6 of us likely won't be enough if we get into several fights. Aiden will spring for a wand of Infernal Healing. He's fine with the evil feel. Two wands and the potions should be ok. If one of you want to buy some scrolls or whatnot, that would help too. Hide from Undead is the only other thing I can think of.

You guys are actually doing well so far (you absolutely could've ended up fighting Corvalos and his skeletons if you'd handled that encounter differently) and your instincts to try and avoid combat with these Pharasmins are also spot-on. There's some behind-the-scenes mechanics here that I'll explain a little more once the current scene is done but I'll also say that there's some plot stuff that you guys aren't aware of yet IC but will be soon - and that should make some of this make a little more sense :)

My guess is that either response would have consequences. If we run then there will be someone in Corspelight that is going to tattle on us. if we fight then we have to deal with the killing of innocents.

Hrm, with natural attacks now I suspect Frankie actually has more than just his one dagger attack? I'm not super concerned about the damage output, more so the debuff I could be applying to the monster's chance to hit us. Frankie doesn't want to get swallowed.

I've got to admit I never really got myself attuned to how natural attacks worked with the BAB, etc. Do I just got extra attacks?

You can make additional natural attacks at a -5 to hit. And it counts as a secondary attack so only half damage from strength and power attack (which would apply to the Dex to damage that an unchained rogue gets). Since youre only using a one handed weapon, I think you can claw and bite.

Or you can drop your dagger and go with all natural attacks. Then they're all at your full BAB. You obviously don't get any magical or property bonuses of course, but you can make two claw attacks and a bite.

I think he is getting to add his Dexterity to damage with daggers, but wouldn't get it with his natural attacks, so its a close call on what would be better.
