Hello all, this is a game being run for the online PbP convention Outpost IV, #4-02: In Wrath's Shadow (Core).
It is recruited via spreadsheet, so head over here FIRST, sign up on the line for this game (it was line 13 as of the time of this post) and then come on back to dot into gameplay.
One further note, the earliest you can sign up is January 26th if you are GM'ing something for the convention or January 29th if you are a general player.
_______________________
That said, discussion stuff is posted in this thread. I have players fill their info into the slides for the game, so no need to add it here. You are welcome to make dayjob rolls here or in gameplay during your introductions. You can also wait till the end of the session to make them.
I tend to prefer in game questions to just use the OOC tags in the gameplay thread so everything is kept in the same place.
But you all are welcome to use this for non-game related discourse or general chat!
I'll start...
My favorite color is Purple, but my favorite book or movie is not "The Color Purple".

![]() |

I took advantage of the early GM signup.
Favorite Color is Orange. Favorite book is a bit tougher...but I am a big fan of Frank Herbert's Dune saga and the Jack Reacher book series.

![]() |

You should pick up something by Brent Weeks or Patrick Rothfuss. Both are pretty solid writers.

![]() |

Blue. The 5th Element ranks high for me I am a big fan of the setting and it seems re-watchable more than many films that are better. For books I highly recommend A Bridge of Birds but have recently discovered an author named Joe Abercrombie that I cannot get enough of. Currently reading a non-fiction by Neil Gaiman on Norse Mythology after reading American Gods by the same author.
Stormy is a sailor by profession. Day job: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

![]() |

Joe Abercrombie is AMAZING. I'm not much for genre fiction anymore, but he blows me away.
His prose is a little repetitive in style, but its a style that I like. :) Glad you like him too. I shared him with my daughter and she found him a little dark.

![]() |

Dark and like...muddy? Like all his characters (his entire world?) seemed filthy. He has some great action though.

![]() |

I am a big fan of the 5th Element as well.
I'll certainly have to checkout some of these recommended authors.

![]() |

Well, ya gotta watch out for the one called Dimple. She can get a tad handsy...

GM TOP |

Hopefully Stormy, hopefully!
In full disclosure, the other five are regular players in a Core group with me. We recently ran into a GM shortage for the next scenario and I had already applied to run this scenario in Outpost, so we all decided to just try to join up together. It appears everyone made it in and you are the lucky one who gets to join up and also admire LGZ's abs. :P
__________________________
Okay, book-keeping time. Everyone please check out the slides here. Fill out your chronicle info on page one and then your character info on page two. Page two has things like marching order, a place for your character piece and initiatives.

![]() |

She can get a tad handsy...
Lol, I read this after I posted. So, I guess it might be true. XD
Day Job {Perform} Take 10: 10 + 13 = 23
I may 'reroll' this at the end if I have one laying around.

![]() |

Profession: Librarian + WM Tool: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 2 = 18
Reroll after, if available... though it usually isn't.

Hey Kas, I know we give you a hard time, but it led me to this boon that would be perfect for you. Unfortunately, I don't have it. But now we can keep an eye out if you are interested.
A PC may only benefit from one Fighting Off Corruption boon.
Ghoul: You engaged in cannibalism or barely survived a case of ghoul fever.
Penalty: Reduce the amount of healing you receive from spells and effects by 1 per die.
☐ Task: Spend an adventure fasting, eating only infrequently enough to stay aive. For the entire adventure, you have the sickened condition. Partway through the adventure at a time determined by the GM, you must attempt a DC 10 Constitution check or DC 20 Will save. If you succeed, you stave off hunger and the urge to eat. If you fail, you compulsively begin eating anything at hand, causing you to fail this task during this adventure.
☐ Task: Defeat an undead creature whose CR is at least 2 higher than your character level.
☐ Final Task: Receive an atonement spell by a good-aligned spellcaster or one whose deity especially reviles the undead.
Completion Benefit: When you take negative energy damage, you reduce the damage taken by 1 point per damage die. You gain a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws to resist the extraordinary and supernatural abilities of undead creatures (+4 against ghoul paralysis). You can cross this completed boon off your Chronicle sheet to change any bloodrager or sorcerer bloodlines you possess to the ghoul bloodline (Pathfinder RPG Monster Codex 60) or undead bloodline.
Thoughts?

GM TOP |

I believe the officially allowed start is in about 10 hours, but it is unlikely that I am able to post right on time. I'll definitely try to get us going by this time tomorrow so keep an eye out!

Hmmm, that is intriguing. Very flavorful! Kasvot has actually gotten a lot of utility out of his fey bloodline (hideous laughter vs. the Xorn?) but the ghoul bloodline could prove equally as effective.
Any idea which scenario contains that boon? Or is this a convention boon?

GM TOP |

Google has the answer!
It is a convention boon and the Ghoul Bloodline swap isn't allowed in Core (though obviously the Undead Bloodline swap would be allowed).
But all that aside, it's unlikely this boon is easily accessible unless you can somehow trade someone for it. It does have some daaaang nice benefits once complete though, even if you kept your bloodline.

![]() |

When I saw that boon I thought it was a new character only style but been trying to see if I had assigned my copy to a character already or whether it was still available. However I have been unable to locate my copy

![]() |

You could also look at the Boon Trading Thread to see if someone has it available.

![]() |

Just dropping in my purchase of a headband intelligence that I posted just before you posted your response to Dimple. Easy to miss and this is probably the place you will look anyway when it comes to filling in chronicle sheets

GM TOP |

So, just checking in here about perceptions and SOP stuff as to how quickly you all move through this place (mainly for buff tracking purposes).
Do you all want to stick with what the group used to do? That was basically taking 10 everywhere on perception and stealth with slowing down to cast detect magic and take 20 perception in obvious trap spots (doors, chests, statues, etc...). Or do you all want to make all your own rolls? Or just drop only the take 20 stuff so you all can move quicker?

![]() |

Kasvot's major buff that expires quickly is shield, and he has a wand of that. No problem spamming that, especially if you give us the opportunity to pre-buff when it's logical.
I.e. no objection to SOPs that slow us down.

![]() |

We established that SoP before we had long-term buffs. Now I can only give 100 minutes of Heroism per casting (with the Rod, or 50 minutes without it). We can see how it goes following our SoP, but we may want to consider hustling through if we are burning through buffs with all the Take 10's and 20's.

GM TOP |

Take 10 doesn't slow anything down, it's essentially just you consistently looking around while you move through the 'ruins'. It's the take 20's that do the 'stop and give it a really good inspection' that slows stuff up.
So, right now SOP use is definitely the choice. I just need to know if you all will be taking those slow 20's or risking it just a little bit more. Niza is still looking at a passive 24 vs. traps even with just take 10. Though of course, she and LGZ are the front-liners so they'll be the ones who might pay for all y'alls decision here. Alternatively, Stormy's 7 minute long buffs suffer if you go slow.

![]() |

So, I am just wondering, if this were Standard, and Dimple had access to a spell like Calm Emotions, and dropped it on the badguys here, would that mean the wrathsinners would have fatigue? I mean, theoretically, if I force-quit their rage, it would have worked, right?
CALM EMOTIONS: This spell calms agitated creatures. You have no control over the affected creatures, but calm emotions can stop raging creatures from fighting or joyous ones from reveling. Creatures so affected cannot take violent actions (although they can defend themselves) or do anything destructive. Any aggressive action against or damage dealt to a calmed creature immediately breaks the spell on all calmed creatures.
This spell automatically suppresses (but does not dispel) any morale bonuses granted by spells such as bless, good hope, and rage, and also negates a bard's ability to inspire courage or a barbarian's rage ability. It also suppresses any fear effects and removes the confused condition from all targets. While the spell lasts, a suppressed spell, condition, or effect has no effect. When the calm emotions spell ends, the original spell or effect takes hold of the creature again, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime.

GM TOP |

Well. Considering it only suppresses the bonuses, it doesn't actually appear to 'end' the rage. Though I'm not sure if that may actually be worse. Burning rounds of rage to keep it going but still have the ac penalty and no benefits and be unable to attack seems pretty terrible.
Re-reading it, it does 'negate' barbarian rage, so that would probably end it. So yeah, fatigued like normal when rage ends and can't rage again until Calm Emotions ends.
That said, you'd still have to get through SR and they would have to fail a save. But this is the situation where that spell becomes amazeballs, for sure.
In another group I play in, our bard uses it quite effectively to give her a chance to use her charisma skills.

I would strongly suggest that you create an Alias character for Shade. It is a LOT easier to keep her stats, buffs and header up to date, especially if you then use that alias profile to post her actions. I have a level five druid strongly focused on an animal companion for damage as well and it is a lot easier to split them into two separate posts/characters.
I couldn't agree more. I take this a step further and create a "Summoned Monster" alias for my PCs that summon:
Tenibri
Summoned Monster: Tenibri
Nahko Bear
Summoned Monster: Nahko
From my end as a player, I find it so much easier to manage stats and organize my posts this way.

![]() |

I have an alias for another non-core druid's animal companion. I am happy to create one. Just have not gotten around to it. I prefer to play in person and do not mind traveling for cons once covid is under control.

So say we all. Or at least prefer the choice of both

Totally agree with that.

I haven't played an in-person game in at least 5 years. Online PbP revived my stagnant RPG hobby.

![]() |

Doh The plan was to cast delay poison and deliver via danny boy when required however Danny boy having to save to deliver kinda scuppers that plan maybe hitting both Niza and LGZ with delay poison at start of adventure is the way forward

![]() |

Arboreal’s summon wrote:As Arboreals spell finishes a flickering flame figure appears where Kasvot was standing just moments beforeMight have wanted a different creature there; the spellcaster pretty much laughed at Kasvot's flaming sphere.
With its immune poison and paralysis the elemental is best suited to fighting ghasts true earth elemental hits harder but I preferred the option that possibly hurts them to attack
The caster is LGZs problem/lunch

![]() |

Was going for Mystic theurge. I know just before you hit mystic theurge is the weak point but going mystic theurge summoner just gives you lots of low level summons that can be one shotted by aoo or one aoe spell. Also full round casting for summons is too slow

![]() |

Hey, stormy is up in his grill... :)
I think the ghast noticed

GM TOP |

I kjnow who gets LVP too so much so that in a normal pick up game I'd be going Lets use my wand as I will be retiring this character
I totally get your frustration. That 'full round summoning' stuff is absolutely brutal. However, you have invested a ton into Arboreal and he is very close to Mystic Theurge.
I'm not actually sure if you are planning on retiring him or continuing on, but if you want to swap away from a summoning focus you could very easily do so. All your spells (wizard and druid) can be pretty easily swapped for other things. You can spend a mere 5PP and retrain your augment summoning feat into Spell Penetration or Greater Spell Focus: Conjuration or something else.
Anyway, just a few thoughts.

![]() |

I will be looking at the mystic theurge caster options and continuing for now

![]() |

I'm working on a CORE Mystic Thurge as well. Also sitting at 6th level. This is when it has been the most difficult. Definitely feels underpowered. I went as a transmitter for the buffs simply because the useful feat to speed up summoning to a standard action is not in the CBR.
Hang in there!

![]() |

There will be some spells added to the spellbook at the end of the adventure. Do pathfinders get free access to spellbooks and just pay ink costs or do we also have to rent the spell book. Edit(I couldn't remember if this was a house rule in a campaign or the PFS rule Thanks GM)
Will take spell penetration as next feat as caster level is always likely to be an issue for a mystic theurge. Master of pentacles I already have as well as the one that adds 2 caster levels but even at 5 rounds most fights are over

GM TOP |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

You do have to pay to rent a spellbook, but it’s at least cheaper than buying a scroll and using it up.

Any day job rerolls or faction journal card things? The scenario is now ending.
We also need to resolve Niza's disease. You all identified it so the details are below.
Ghoul Fever: Bite—injury; save Fort DC 15; onset 1 day; frequency 1/day; effect 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex damage; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Charisma-based. A humanoid who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight.
I spoke with my wife and she wants to 'try' to beat it off with some solid rolls before spending PP or gold on society assistance. Since Antiplagues don't exist in Core, there appear to be very limited options available to help her.
Option #1: Stormy prepares and casts Remove Disease on her tomorrow and succeeds on the CL check to beat the DC (this can benefit from Dimple's Luck Blessing).
Option #2: Niza rolls 2 consecutive save successes. She can get 'help' from someone using a Heal check to boost her save rolls, but none of the rolls can benefit from Dimple's Luck Blessing.
I will allow spell preparation to occur prior to the required daily roll vs. the disease.
