EDIT: Damn. It takes too long to post from my phone. I started typing before Flynn and Kib posted. Oh well. Chaos in battle I guess.
It amuses me to think of Fendel speechifying and offering mercy as two raging hippos barrel in and bite the bad guy to bits :o
(Wouldn't do it to an enemy that I thought was worth sparing, or that I knew that other PCs cared about, but my gosh Kiboko *hates* these Galtans now).

I think I recall from a prior session that the Gray Gardeners are kinda like Galtan Secret Police (and fanatical), so I doubt he’d have surrendered any way. If he had run away, I would’ve let him go; once he attacked Kramac while prone though, Flyn was gonna light him up...

Have you played Fury of the Final Blade?

I haven’t played that one...I can’t recall the one I played where they were mentioned...perhaps The Stolen Heir or Reaping What We Sow?

Campaign Points!
This scenario and the three that follow in the Eyes of the Ten campaign arc offer a unique reward in the form of Campaign Points, an abstract measurement of how well each player character does at the business of the Pathfinder Society. Specifically, these points measure the confidence of the Society’s leadership (here represented by Eliza Petulengro and Osprey) in the abilities of the player characters. Use the guidelines below to award each player a number of Campaign Points for this adventure, marking that total on the character’s Chronicle sheet as noted. In the final scenario, player characters who accumulate a certain number of Campaign Points will be eligible for a special reward from the Decemvirate.
Campaign Points come in two forms: group awards and individual awards. If any PC completes an action listed as a group award, all members of the group receive a Campaign Point for that action. Personal awards apply only to the characters who qualify for them, as appropriate.
Characters may gain 1 Campaign Point for this scenario from each of the following actions:
- The PCs show compassion for injured/killed Woodsedge Lodge servants (group award).
- The PCs successfully recover and return the Pale Maiden (group award).
- The PCs broker a truce between the Pathfinder Society and the Red Raven (group award).
- The PCs free the phoenix Zaliex by giving it the phoenix ring (group award).
- A PC impresses Eliza in the Talespinning Ceremony (individual award).
- A PC impresses Osprey in the Talespinning Ceremony (individual award).
Everyone got all the Group awards (4 points). Zaarah, Fendel, and Kramac impressed Eliza, but only Zaarah and Fendel also impressed Osprey. Campaign Points have been noted on chronicle sheets.

And, as promised, the Taldor faction mission:
Long have your served our Emperor’s needs, and as you prepare for your upcoming journey to the dangerous, revolution-wracked nation of Galt you deliver to the people of Taldor an additional opportunity to bring unparalleled honor to your beloved homeland.
As events in Oppara grow increasingly chaotic, Grand Prince Stavian III, our honored Emperor, turns inward, dedicating much of his resources to the study of his great-grandfather, the legendary Stavian the First. It is the belief of the Emperor, I am told, that emulation of that great hero’s famously opulent lifestyle will rally the people behind the Throne, sensing in the current Stavian’s dedication to his family legacy a resurgence of the glory of Old Taldor.
Agents recently delivered a missive personally signed by the Emperor’s Chamberlain himself, and to my surprise it referenced Galt’s Woodsedge Lodge. The fact that you will shortly travel to the location is the type of coincidence that tells us Aroden’s gaze has not truly passed over Taldor, and that the world is aligning itself for a triumphant return to glory!
The Emperor’s interest currently concerns a stuffed owlbear said to have graced the Woodsedge Lodge for centuries. Rumor in Galt has long held that this was the famous Beaky III, prized pet of Emperor Stavian the First. It is your duty to confirm that the Woodsedge Owlbear and Beaky III are one and the same. We do not wish to arouse the ire of the Pathfinder Society at this point in time, so the Emperor’s Chamberlain demands that you remove a 5-inch-square portion of the owlbear’s pelt, so that it can be personally tested by the Emperor’s alchemists to determine what steps should next be taken. It is absolutely essential that you not be seen!
It is strange to think that the fate of a long-dead owlbear holds the key to our Empire’s long-due Return to Glory, but the mysteries of Taldor’s Rulers are to be celebrated, never questioned.
Hail Emperor Stavian III!

"Well done." Osprey's observation is simple and unpretentious. "The threat of this 'Shadow Lodge' can no longer be ignored, and by your actions you have proven where your loyalties lie. In this time of doubt and suspicion, we will be relying on you to carry out missions we dare not entrust to anyone else."
Now just imagine if someone did play this with a legacy Shadow Lodge character... XD
Admit it Hawthwile! Your bard was a shadow lodge agent!! :-D

Upgrade Amulet of Natural Armor to +2 - 6000

Since they only spotted Mvumbu, I was trying to figure out if they would think she's just native wildlife and not be alarmed. But then I remembered that:
- She's wearing armor
- She's wearing a cloak
- She's got a pair of gemstones whizzing around her headSo it made sense to me that they would be suspicious. XD
All true. I considered removing Mvumbu's gear for precisely this reason - but thought she'd object ;)
Mvumbu is equipped with about 20,000gp of magic items :o

Characters may gain 1 Campaign Point for this scenario from each of the following actions:
- The PCs rescue Kol Voss's companions from the Crimson forum (group award)
- The PCs capture Natalya Yagevna instead of killing her (group award)
- The PCs impress the Pathfinder Society's goodwill upon Princess Verrish in order to establish relations with the new Thurok on Akiton (group award)
Easy enough - everyone adds 3 Campaign Points to their total. I'll include both the new amount and the running total on the Chronicle sheets for my own ease of tracking.
Additionally, this scenario had some truly terrible faction missions:
Beliac (an ice devil you were supposed to summon in Part I) informs me that you’ve not paid him the attention due to him (and will likely tell you so himself when he hands you this letter). We’ll deal with this transgression upon your return, but in the meantime I wish for you to escort the mighty devil through the portal to wherever it is you are headed next. He’s on a mission for me. Beliac shall assume his exquisitely handsome human male form and you will tell everyone that he is your manservant - I don’t care what name you give him, make one up. Once he’s on the other side of the portal, you must then take care to ensure that he leaves quietly, slipping away from your party without any of the locals or your companions knowing about it. Succeed on these missions, my sweet, and I may spare you the rod when it comes time for your punishment.
My Whip Awaits,
Paracountess Zarta Dralneen
Grand Prince Stavian III, our noble emperor, defender of the Primogeniture Crown, wished you to know that he knows your name. This is a great honor, one that even I have never achieved. I am, of course, enormously jealous and shall work to strip you of this honor, but that’s for another letter.
As usual, I spared no expense getting this letter smuggled to you across the Galt countryside. I am residing in Cassomir these days, a few unfortunate issues in Absalom keeping me from the City at the Center of the World. But even though I am not in Absalom, I still have ears, and my ears tell me that you’re stepping through another portal. On the other side is a great land, far from your home—I know what it is and where it is, but I think I should let you find out on your own.
Grand Prince Stavian III wishes you to take Beaky III, his stuffed owlbear in the Woodsedge Lodge, through that portal and offer it as a gift to that nation’s ruler. It’s of course important that Beaky III goes missing without that nosy Petulengro or her staff knowing about it—Pathfinders are so attached to dead, dusty things and she might throw a tantrum should she see you steal it.
I shall see you soon.
For Taldor!
Baron Jacquo Dalsine
And then the following is just me ranting about the character creation in this scenario:
And don't get me started on Natalya. An ice witch (okay, good so far) who preps by casting invisibility on herself (still good) and her six ice zombies. WITH WHAT SPELL SLOTS? AND SHE WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE DONE THIS TWICE TO HAVE GOTTEN THE JUMP ON KOL VOSS! But don't worry, that's not the dumbest part. That honor is tied between her using one of her two 7th lvl spell slots to prep simulacrum (which is 1. not a witch spell, and 2. not something she needed to prepare more than once unless she's making a new simulacrum every day) and her tactics to spend her first round of combat APPLYING POISON TO A DART AND THEN HER SECOND ROUND TO NEVER USE THE THING SHE LIKELY POISONED HERSELF PREPARING. Oh, but she wants to position herself on the other side of the zombies. THEN WHY DID YOU START ON OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE BOAT!?
And for the cherry on top, she had to use a wand of control undead to make her zombies obey her. Which means she probably had to burn through like three of them over the course of the timeline of the adventure arc. Just... why.
#RantOver
Chronicle sheets have been sent out. Plan your purchases quickly, because we're shipping out for Part IV tomorrow!

Flyn winces upon hearing the VC’s name spoken in common
Taking a chance to move us along - the VC said we need to use special ioun stones that we'll find in the basin, and the numbers of persons (+ animals) in the room looks right, so it feels like it's not a huge risk.
If we happen to know the Eliza understands infernal, or polyglot, Kiboko would use one of those languages instead.
Flyndyngylyn
|
No worries, Kiboko, I’m just very wary…maybe I’m too paranoid. We’ve been in the room for maybe several rounds and the VC hasn’t said a word to any of us. I would’ve thought she would’ve been the first to speak since she’s at least somewhat familiar with this room, more so than any of us. And I think Flyn mentioned speaking Infernal before we stepped thru the rift and the VC didn’t say anything then…
And as I recall in the first part, neither she nor Osprey actually helped us, other than with information, as they were buried in the rubble and injured, so I was thinking maybe something like that happened with the rift…
Like I said, probably just paranoid…
