Rothgarr "Red" Titan-Slayer
Red plans on grabbing the 8 sets of leather armors, short swords, and shorbows so we can sell them later - just don't want to be carrying them around while we're in the "dungeon". Should be able to get a little more gold out of that for the party - though I understand it is small sized.
Shel Whispertongue
I agree with Perri. I typically say to give the items to whomever can use them more and best. If we find a wand of cure light wounds for instance, the Warpriest should get it, but shouldn’t have to pay for it.
Same as when we find a magical greatsword. Red should get it as it will help the party more than anything else.
I’d vote for splitting all the cash equally and a group decision about who needs the magic items most and just hand the items off.
Rîleth Mithrandir
As a general rule, I have no issue with splitting the coin equally. Also, I have no issue with giving applicable items useful to one character over another - thus I had no issue with the masterwork thieves' tool for Shel. However, the ring of protection should go to the characters with the lowest AC and that isn't Shel. However, as your character claimed it without checking in with anyone but Red ... shrugs. I guessed being a rogue - she thought the shiny magical ring would be great for her. I thought Perri would want the +1 bow but he declined so I had Rileth take it as the shortbow is her secondary weapon. The suggestion of giving the coin to the males this time was simply to give them something from this particular loot and not as a general rule throughout the entirety of the game (Red did not play out in character that he would come back for the goblin items with a wish to sell them - so I was unaware of his plans for them). I have no issue in dividing the current coin relatively equally (since there are 4 of us and the coin won't divide equally) if that is what the group wants. I was simply trying to be fair since the males copped it big time in injury this fight.
Shel Whispertongue
I figured I’ll generally be the main backup fighter to Red to get the best use of my 2 weapon fighting and sneak attacks, so that’s why I assumed one of us would get the ring.
Rîleth Mithrandir
However, you did say the items should be a group decision in your above post and that did not happen. I think players can justify why they or one other character gets a certain item and I don't wish to see people taking magical items just based on an individual decision.
Shel Whispertongue
Okay, I suppose I could have explained my reasoning better. I think the magic items should go to whomever can put them to the best use. Weapons, armor, defensive stuff I always vote to go to the melee characters (unless the items are ranged, of course) first, and then trickle down from there. But, I don’t like melee people to become hogs, so when useful for all items like cloaks, random magical items drop, melee should be last in line for those. At least that are my general thoughts 99% of the time.
Perri Purrun
Protection stuff varies, based on what it is and how the group works.
If we have one guy who does most of the damage, I want to protect his Will save, desperately.
If we have one person who tends to act as a wall, or stopper, and stand between the enemies and the rest of us, I want them to get all the AC buffs we can get them. On the other hand, if we habitually form a line and effectively are all the front line, then spreading the love around becomes more important.
In other words, best interests of the party depend on the individual party.
I try not to prejudge what I think is right to do with an item. Until we have one, the judgement is irrelevant. Once we have one, the circumstances may not be what I envisioned when I pre-judged, and thus the judgement is likely wrong.
As far as the bow goes . . .. +1 Shortbow vs normal Longbow. Bonus to hit mitigated by Weapon Focus feat which goes non-applicable. Bonus to damage mitigated by smaller damage die, resulting in same average damage delivered. So, mechanically, the bow's a wash. Storywise, a shortbow is simply not an option for an Erastalian holy man.
Oh, yeah, I will push for story before mechanics, too. Story is supposedly why we're here.
As for the question about the ring? I'm "avoiding" the thought process for now. It is a universally useful item, but we haven't settled into a solid pattern that suggests where would be "best." We just don't really know, yet. Makes it hard for me to feel strongly about where it is for now. <shrug>
Perri Purrun
Sorry. Really bad day at work, followed by the older grandchild acting out all night. I'm almost calmed down. Let's go see what's happened here . . ..
Red, got off the weekend and to a weeknight. Add the unusually grumpy aspects mentioned above, and I'm here later than I normally try to be. My apologies. But, again, during the week, my posts will be post 1930ish Central US.
Rîleth Mithrandir
Rileth definitely has Dancing Lights up and is recasting when necessary.
Sorry I’m unable to post in character at this time - kitten had some surgery and I have my hands full with work and recovering kitten right now. I’ll post in character later today my time.
Rîleth Mithrandir
I have some time to post now, however Shel has yet to take her surprise round action and then her round 1 action (and I understand it's due to time zone differences). I will check in my morning and hopefully will post Rileth's Round 1 action then (so as to not confuse the present combat timeline). Thanks!
Rîleth Mithrandir
GM, you mentioned the creature came around the corner where Shel surprised it. What is its current position as the token hasn't moved. Thanks.
Rîleth Mithrandir
GM, Ri knew about the poison damage via her know check when they found Tsuto mention the quasit in his journal.
Not sure how you want to deal with the ability damage via the poison in game - that's why I didn't roll the 1d2 DEX damage. Do you prefer to roll those kinds of things yourself or do you wish for us to? Thanks!
Rîleth Mithrandir
Wonderful. Thank you! I edited the last post to add in the Dex damage. I'll incorporate that in Round 2's action.
Do I need to roll another fort save vs the poison in Round 2? (It says: cure 2 consecutive saves). If she fails again, she takes additional Dex damage correct? Ri's Fort save is just terrible.
Rîleth Mithrandir
I’m out of the office for work. I have some follow up stuff with Rileth and the artefact and she can cast Detect Magic before moving on. I won’t be able to post in character for another couple of hours. Sorry for the hold up.
Rîleth Mithrandir
I'm not sure if there are any items on the quasit, however I made checks and cast a spell just in case due to the time zone differences (generally when the bulk of postings are being made is when I'm sleeping). Just didn't want to hold up the game any longer than I have to via Rileth. I hope that's okay.
Rîleth Mithrandir
Yes. I had written in character that Rileth recast Dancing Lights and was ready to move when the others were. Are you waiting on me for something else, GM?
Rîleth Mithrandir
Sorry, Red. I thought Rileth relayed as much information as she could in my earlier postings and I thought perhaps you're asking the whole group and not just Ri. I answered Red just now. I wasn't ignoring you/him.
I think Perri should heal Red's wounds if we mean to enter the catacombs now. As a precautionary thing. I know Shel and Perri are hurt - however they have lost less HP. Shrugs. I leave it up to Red to play out if he wants the healing offered by Perri.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
and then moves 5’ forward and 5’ south, (if someone would be so kind as to move me, please).
I moved your token, Shel. :)
Perri Purrun
Came into the study while the grandkids were eating supper. Saw the game post and took the time to level. Now they are running in and out of the study chasing each other and pretending to hide.
+5 HP (D8) + Favored Class bonus
+1 BAB
+1 Ref
Feat (Rapid Shot)
Bonus Feat (Erastil's Blessing)
+1 1st Level Spell

No idea how money looks, honestly. Need a healer's kit to take advantage of the +9. Want a better bow. MW Darkwood Composite Longbow (Str +2) is the dream. Doubt that kind of money should be available. "Only" 630 gold. Armor update can wait, obviously. Bow will probably wait. <grin> That's okay.
Shel Whispertongue
It’ll take me until later in the week to level I think. But, great job everyone! Had a couple tough fights, but we’ve powered through quite well.

Also, at 4th level, I’m considering taking a level of wizard or sorcerer, as we are sorely lacking on some knowledge skills and that would be the easiest way to help bolster them a little.

Wouldn't Bard do that better?
Not that I have a dog in this fight.
Rîleth Mithrandir
Rileth has all the knowledge skills and can make them untrained. I'll be having her take more levels in Bard as she progresses and adding to the knowledge skill ranks. Having someone who can back up/bolster the knowledge skills in game is good; however saying we're sorely lacking isn't necessarily so in my opinion. If Shel thinks a dip into wizard/sorcerer would be fun to play, then I'm all for it. I just don't want her player thinking they have to go down that route.
Shel Whispertongue
Ah, I didn’t realize you could do untrained knowledge checks, Rileth. That’s good to know! I’ll figure out what I want to do assuming we all live to hit level four!
Rîleth Mithrandir
Excellent! Can't wait to see what you end up going with, Shel (if we survive past level 3). :)

I am 3ish hours East of home, with my 27 year old daughter in a neurological ICU.
She is supposed to be in observation for 24~48 hours. Beennworking this issue since 0500 local this morning. I make no promises about posting on my phone through this.

Ugh. Thoughts to you and your family.
Perri Purrun
Home for a "quick stop" tonight. Going back to get the daughter's car tomorrow, so, another 7 hours on the road for the round trip. <shrug>
Life should be almost normal for work on Monday, and after.
Rîleth Mithrandir
I hope everyone's doing okay - Perri hope your daughter is doing better/well. It's been quiet in game this past week, so I thought I'd check in.
Just a courtesy heads-up, I'll be off the boards from 22nd April to the 25th April (northern hemisphere: 21st-24th April) as hubby is taking me on a short milestone birthday holiday. I'll return to posting from the 26th. Thanks. :)
Perri Purrun
I've got 5 "active" games that are all at least 3 weeks since the GM posted in game.
A couple of others that are hobbling along.
Seems Covid year 2 is bad for PBP gaming for some reason.
Shel Whispertongue
Yeah, I’ve got a couple games that the GM has seemingly taken an unannounced vacation, as well.
If it doesn’t pick back up, it was a fun, if short ride, with everyone.
Rîleth Mithrandir
Hope you’re recuperating well, GM. Thanks for letting us know what’s going on with you. We’ll await your return.
Rîleth Mithrandir
The game disappeared overnight from my active campaigns.
GM, I hope you’re okay. Not sure if the game is officially dead (which would be a shame). Waiting to hear something.
Thank you kindly.
