"Lucky" Lucky Waterfield |
Player Name: TheSuperDodo
Character Name: "Lucky" Lucky Waterfield
Character Level: Bard 1
PFS# 221942-2002
Advancement: Normal
Downtime: Earn Income (Performance): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
I am new to PF2e, with my only experience in it being an introductory one-shot session and the other PbP game I'm in right now (which started a couple of weeks ago and only just reached its first combat encounter). However, I have read the Core Rulebook and feel quite confident in my grasp of the system. I have 4 years of experience with PF1e (2 of which played mostly via PbP).
Pepper Fullbranch |
Player: Hawthwile
Character: Pepper Fullbranch
Level: 1
PFS #: 264524-2003
Normal / Slow Advancement: Normal
Downtime: Cooking Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
I've played a decent amount of both PF2 and PbP, so feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to find answers!
Ulf Ormyrson |
Player Name: Witch's Knight
Character Name: Ulf Ormyrson
Character Level: 1
PFS number: 194167-2003
Normal / Slow Advancement: Normal
Downtime: I'm not sure how to use Warfare Lore to make money, but I'll roll it anyway Warfare Lore: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
I started playing D&D 3.5 in 2007 and my friend/DM and I got in on the PF1 playtest in 2009 and switched when the official ruleset came out. I've played mostly PF1 since then, mostly short games with roommates or family. I have played PbP before, but not a whole lot, so I'll just apologize in advance for accidentally breaking any PBP etiquette rules.
I've read a lot of PF2 and tinkered with the rules but haven't actually gotten to game with other people before now. I've got my first ever PFS character in another PBP that started on the 12th, a character in a campaign-mode PBP that started today, and Ulf in this game.
I feel pretty good about my grasp of PF2, PFS, and PBP etiquette, but I'm prepared to be wrong and ask lots of questions as we go, and I thank you all for your patience in advance!
GM Watery Soup |
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
I played D&D (the red/blue boxes) as a kid, and then didn't play for 25 years because I had nobody to play with. One day, I used the word "icosahedral" at work, and someone in a nearby cube perked up, "Like a d20?" We started a lunchtime game, and the first session was basically, "Okay, so let me explain everything that's happened in the TTRPG world since 1990" for me, plus, "so let me explain what an RPG is" for two players completely new to RPGs.
I'm very familiar with both sides of the newbie discussion and guarantee that if you have a question, I had it too.
---
This is a 2-page reference for basic actions in PF2e. I don't know who made it, so I don't know who to credit, but they did a good job, so I give them much credit.
This is RPGbot's guide to differences between PF1 and PF2.
If you haven't played PF2 PbP, I'll explain skill checks. There are now 4 levels of success, and a lot more secret checks in PF2 than in PF1, and so I'll be rolling for you a lot. My personal opinion is that it's actually too much, so whenever possible, I'm going to let you roll.
1. Sometimes, I will make a check without telling you I made a check. Typically, I'll spoiler the rolls with a "GM Screen" spoiler. Please don't open them, as it will tell you both what check has been made, plus the results.
Example: You enter a trapped room, and I will roll Perception for everyone.
2. Sometimes, I will ask for modifiers. You can choose whether or not you want me to make the check, and I will spoiler the results. This way, you know who attempted a check and what it was, but not what the result was.
Example: The witch offers you some watery soup; anyone who wants to try post your Nature modifier. (Secret Nature check to know the soup turns you into a newt, muhahahah!)
3. Sometimes, I will ask you to just roll. Anyone who wants to can roll. You'll know what attempted a check and what it was, and what the results are.
Example: The king invites you to perform a song from your native land. (Open Performance check to dance a jig.)
4. Sometimes, I'll just list the DC and spoiler the result. Anyone can just roll and on their honor open the spoiler.
The Comedienne |
Was my first post visible, and people sort of glossed through it, or was it invisible? I don't mind either way, I just need to know if posts are actually showing up or not.
Ulf Ormyrson |
It showed up for me, we were just six posts past it when I got around to posting again, and I generally stick to responding to just the last one or two posts to keep with the current narrative flow. I did have a question about your joke, though: were you intending to imply that she is a Linnorm Queen because she killed a linnorm, or because she is one?
GM Watery Soup |
I see a post from yesterday (December 21) at 5:15 pm (US Pacific Time).
I agree that if anyone feels like joking gets out of hand, people should PM either Comedienne or me.
Also, keep in mind that there are children who play on these boards. For all I know, you're all 10 and just way better spellers than my 10-year-old.

She was trying to make a joke about the fact that she led a wyrm to a village to negotiate, because she didn't understand the social context (being pants at Society). So misunderstanding plus trying to be silly and potentially faily miserably.
Thanks for the response from both GM and Ulf, the site has been acting very *peculiar* of late and wanted to make sure it wasn't ignoring or deleting my posts.
Ulf Ormyrson |
Ahhh I got it, I'd forgotten who White Astrid was lol. I'll have to think about how Ulf feels about that joke, she's kind of a controversial figure. Nice reference, though!
The Comedienne |
All good. It just felt really weird to go back to try to respond to other people's posts and it felt like there was zero acknowledgement of the character save for your brief comment of greeting new arrivals.
Not making a fuss about it, just wanted to make sure it was a roleplay issue instead of a technical one.
Roleplay could have many IC reasons.
Technical issues are different.
Ulf Ormyrson |
I apologise if this is obtuse, but where are the links for the slides? I went back through the gameplay thread, the recruitment thread, and the discussion thread and I'm not seeing them.
Lynn the Teacher |
Whoops.. I forgot to check here. Sorry life has been chaotic due to the holidays. I have a hero point. I like the prankster kobold so I'll award it to them.
Also my item is a scroll of heal.
Edit
For the record I tend to be a bit introverted among new people so that's why my posting tends to be sparse. I'm enjoying it.
GM Watery Soup |
Yes, sorry for the omission. Top of the thread, there's a link to a Google Slides document called "Maps and Art".
We will use that document for combats, tracking Hero Points, etc.
Everyone should have Edit permissions - if you "bump" the map and misalign things, please Undo. Note that as the owner of the slides, I can always revert the document to a previous state, so there are no permanent errors you can make.
Ulf Ormyrson |
Ah, thank you! I was looking for it in a post, wondering if I was going crazy early.
Ulf Ormyrson |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I'm trying real hard IRL to stick to meal prep stuff that I've already bought for the next couple weeks instead of ordering out, but all the descriptions of delicious food going on in this adventure are making it tough lol. I love it.
GM Watery Soup |
Happy holidays to everyone! Take care of yourselves and those you love.
GM Watery Soup |
Lynn, please make sure your profile and tagline are updated soon.
At the very least, I'll need to know what your Perception modifier is.
---
Lynn and Pepper, I stuck you in the middle of the marching order. Feel free to move yourselves around.
GM Watery Soup |
I PMed Dyner over the weekend, I will do something later today if I haven't heard.
Dyner Inazuma |
Oh, gods, I'm so sorry guys! Thank-you for botting me and I'm so sorry if I have caused you worry!
I mentally went on vacation for a few days, trying not to worry or stress about anything, but next thing I know I hadn't posted for near a week and that always stresses me/causes me to dread coming back, which means I procrastinate it and tend to lack the self-discipline to sit down and handle it. I haven't looked at the gameplay thread, and if needed can drop from the game. However, work is starting up tomorrow and it provides a good structure and down time to handle posting, and I need to try building structure to my days when I don't have work (as alllll my routines went by the wayside during this break, which is not good.)
Again, I'm sorry. Hope everyone had a better winter holidays.
GM Watery Soup |
Don't drop the game, unless you don't think you can keep up the posting pace for the next few weeks. Everyone does and should take a break over the holidays. Just catch up soon.
The Comedienne |
Hey, you're not alone in that regard.
Take a deep breath, let it out, read to catch up, then post to catch up.
Remember less is more, and you should be fine. :)
Welcome back!
Ulf Ormyrson |
For what it's worth, I would also be sad to see Dyner go. Do what's best for you :)
Dyner Inazuma |
Thanks everyone!
I don't want to drop this game, it's had some of the best roleplay I've seen in a while, and I really want to get Dyner fleshed out as a character. I'll get a post up in just a moment, let me read through the gameplay pages first!
GM Watery Soup |
One of the quirks about PbP is that the most transparent way to represent a foreign language is to use Google Translate into a foreign language. This gives the moderators an ability to audit what's being written, but runs the risk of people actually understanding an actual language.
I chose Japanese because, well, Minkai is Pathfinder Japan. Sometimes I'll use Chinese to represent Tien, but the grammar tends to be awkward (defeating the auditability), and there's no easy way to make syllabic scripts to transliterate foreign words.
This is the first time I've GMed for someone who could understand the foreign language I translated it into!
Dyner Inazuma |
No worries about the foreign language part, I can separate in character and out-of-character knowledge, it's just fun to run into something I don't see on the boards everyday.
"Lucky" Lucky Waterfield |
For what it's worth, I too understand Japanese, so try not to hide any shocking spoilers in there ;)
On to other matters, I've got some work-related travelling to do today. I should be back home tonight, but I might be too tired to post by then, so if I don't act within 24 hours, please bot me.
GM Watery Soup |
The website has been down for the past 12 hours. If you're having problems logging in, try clearing your cache and cookies.
The Comedienne |
Sorry for delay on response, wasn't getting notifications of activity on thread. Posting!
GM Watery Soup |
To speed up the decision, here are everyone's Survival modifiers.
Lucky (U): +1
Commedienne (T): +6
Dyner (T): +5
Lynn (U): +4
Pepper (T): +5
Ulf (U): +1
GM Watery Soup |
You should absolutely sign up for Outpost with these characters.
Dyner Inazuma |
Dyner is 108507-2006. Her character number is also in the first spoiler with her PFS information as well.
Also dayjob roll!
Cooking Lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
The Comedienne |
The Comedienne is 145296-2007.
The Comedienne |

I'm on my phone but will get Chronicles and reporting done later today. I think I need Downtime from Lynn and Ulf, but see the spoiler above entitled "Logistical Stuff" where I made a complete list of what was missing a few days ago.
GM Watery Soup |
Chronicles are here for everyone except Ulf.
Ulf, I need your instructions for Downtime (if you don't know what you want, just roll a d20 and I'll sort it for you).
GM Watery Soup |
This game has been reported. Let me know if it doesn't show up.
The Comedienne |
It does not appear to be downloading when I try to download it.
Ulf Ormyrson |
Yeah, I have no idea what Ulf should be doing with his downtime, I will gladly leave that to you.
1d20 ⇒ 4
GM Watery Soup |
It does not appear to be downloading when I try to download it.
The problem does not seem to be on my end; I just logged in from my phone not logged in, and downloaded your Chronicle.
If this problem persists, you can PM me an E-mail address, and I'll E-mail you the PDF.
Yeah, I have no idea what Ulf should be doing with his downtime, I will gladly leave that to you.
1d20
So, on further inspection, you made a roll at the beginning of the thread. I don't know why I missed that. I'm using that roll. Your Chronicle is in the same folder above.
Earn Income is a hand-wavy way of saying what your character does in between adventures. It's standardized in PFS at 8 downtime days/scenario. You can roll Crafting, Performance, or any Lore vs the Earn Income table. https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=23
How you skin earning income is up to you. The example in the CRB is Harsk using Tea Lore to serve tea. Maybe Ulf teaches at a battle academy, or maybe he helps train the city guards.
