Mavaro also has 6 charges of CLW that don't count against anyone's supplies. Might as well use those first.
Mavaro keeps an eye on the road immediately ahead of their sleepwalking companion, casting resistance on Kalkamedes every minute and moving any small obstacles he sees.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Not that he sees much.

"I almost died inside a whale one time. It weren't alive at the time. It's carcass had been turned into some kind of underwater boat and there was this Aspis lady...well, she weren't really no kind of lady...but anyway, she almost asploded our whole team with one of them fireballs," Reggie adds to the conversation.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
"Nope...we ain't goin' through that. That'll cut him up worse'n Ol' Nan Gertrude did us when she got switch happy. Us too," Reggie says when he spots the undergrowth.
He heads back to Kalkamedes and starts herding him around the patch. "Let's he's tryin' to get to someplace and it's tuggin' at him and it ain't a particular path he's gotta tread."

Has anyone figured out how far across the weed patch is? I can give him the ol' Heavens Leap hex if it's less than thirty feet.
Reckum
|
Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Reckum does his best to simply lift the sleepwalking man off his feet and carry him around the bramble patch.
| GM Watery Soup |
Kalkamedes struggles, but Reckum does manage to sling him over his shoulder and carry him around the bramble patch.
---
After another hour, Kalkamedes abruptly turns to the west, abruptly foiling any scouting attempts to range ahead and plan for potential obstacles.
While the party scrambles to re-adjust, Kalkamedes marches straight into a watery bog, a standing pool recently made much deeper by the rainfall from the prior night. While the water is only 2 feet deep around the bog’s periphery, it gradually gets deeper.
There are some listed skill checks, but I'm pretty open to creative solutions. It will be a DC 20 Swim check to swim him across.

If Kalkamedes counts as "willing", Mavaro can just cast levitate and then drag him across the bog like a balloon.

If Kalkamedes counts as "willing", Mavaro can just cast levitate and then drag him across the bog like a balloon.
If that doesn't work I can summon a small water elemental to help hold him up while I swim him across.
| GM Watery Soup |
Mavaro casts levitate, and the group swims across, towing Kalkamedes.
---
About half an hour later, Kalkamedes’s path winds westward into a steep mountain pass that climbs several hundred feet. The surface levels out only to terminate fifty feet ahead with a precipitous drop into a thirty-foot wide canyon.
Got another one? :)
Papa Òxọ́lé

I do, but then I'll be out of 2nd-levels spells. Any other ideas before I do that?
Fran Belmont

"Ooh...that's a big drop," Fran winces as she carefully peers over the edge. "I could fly down there or fly across to the other side but I don't think I'm strong enough to carry him."
But her expression does brighten a bit as she begins digging into her pack. "But I've got this rope - it's silk but it's strong and it's light! Maybe we could tie it to him and lower him down?"
______________
How much of a drop is it into the canyon?
| GM Watery Soup |
It's about 100 feet. The walls of the canyon appear to be very steep - the Climb check would have a DC of 22, and the climber(s) would have to go down one side and up the other.

Rowdy knocks Kalkamedes down then sits on him...gently while the party discusses the problem.
"This is like that ol' puzzle. 'You got a guy in a boat on one side of a river and 5 guys on the other side...'" Reggie says.
"That'd be a tough jump for Rowdy to make, especially with somebody big as Kalkamedes strapped to him. And we need to make sure somebody's on both sides so he don't wander off without us. How 'bout we tie two ropes to him. Fran an' me or Rekum can cross over with one rope and the rest of the folks can stay over here with the other end. Then we can let him walk off the edge and keep him suspended betwixt us instead of lettin' him slam into one cliff face or the other."
Shamus Shandy
|
Well. That looks to be about thirty feet across. Luckily, my Heaven's Leap ability can be done at will. I'll "leap" one of you over there first, then send Mister Kalkemedes, and you can catch him once he's over there so he doesn't go wandering back over the cliff.
Or, if anyone has feather fall, Im sure one of you would enjoy pushing him off the cliff.
Voices in My Head
|
Ssself can carry Cat and clumsssy man if want. Voices says with a shrug.
Voices has feather fall and reduce person. So I could feather fall down, tie him to my back, and climb the other side. I also have scroll of jump. But I think the heaven's leap is the least risky choice.
| GM Watery Soup |
How many times a day can you use Heaven's Leap?
Everyone else will need to make Climb checks or have their own way across.
Fran Belmont
|
"Ooh, I agree, letting Shamus just bop one or two people across would probably be the easiest way to do it," Fran remarks, looking quite impressed with the samsaran. "But please don't worry about me; I can fly Mr. Sunshine and myself across."
She considers their options for a moment. "You should probably send Reggie or Reckum over first, since they're strongest."

Heaven's Leap is one per target per day, so we could all cross that way. Mavaro's +4 Climb is not really up for that, so he will ask for a Leap from Shamus.

"Yup, that sounds like the perfect solution. Neither me nor Rowdy's gonna make that jump with any ease and the climb wouldn't be much better," Reggie says when Shamus reveals his plan.
"We can go on over first and you can bring Kalkamedes over and we'll mother hen him 'til the rest of y'all can get over."

Do be warned, though; whomever I 'leap' across will be immune to the effect until tomorrow. But, this does seem the easiest way for us to get across.
Are you ready, Reggie? I'll send you first, then mister Kalkemedes, then myself and whoever else after that. You'll only be disoriented for a split second. It will feel and look like you're flying through space at a ludicrous speed for just a moment. Alright then. Here we go...
*Bink*
*bink*
Reggie and Rowdy get 'leaped'.
*Bink*
Kalkemedes gets 'leaped'.
*Bink*
Shamus gets 'leaped'. He waves to the others once he's across.
Hellooooo! We're all fine over here! Who's next?
*Bink*
Mavaro gets 'leaped'.
Then whoever else.
This is the first time I got to use this ability. Pretty awesome.
Reckum
|
Might be quickest to send everyone who can't fly across with Heaven's Leap. We're going to be here for a while if we wait for folks to climb down and back up, and I doubt Kalkemedes has much in the way of patience right now. XD
Shamus Shandy

Hold on to your hat!
*Bink*
Reckum gets 'leaped'.

... "You should probably send Reggie or Reckum over first, since they're strongest."
Actually, Voices is strongest at 20 (24 if raging). So if we need someone to carry or hold him down, Voices is probably the best at it. Unless they have improved grapple or something like that.

Reggie is going so fast that he barely gets a yell out, which is over so fast that even the doppler affect can't really be heard before he lands on the other side.
"Much as I appreciate it, Shamus, I don't mind if we don't get 'nother chance to do that. I could swear everything looked plaid for a second there."
Rowdy doesn't seem as upset, though he spins around several times when he lands as though trying to figure out what happened and where he is.
Only a sharp "No!" from Reggie stops him from getting the zoomies.
Reggie gets back on the wolf, ready to ride herd on their nocturnal wanderer when he gets over to them.

The voice is coming from Kalkamedes's sword.
Papa Òxọ́lé

Mavaro doesn't squee. Probably. Not too loud at least.
"Ah, honored blade, I am pleased that we could escort your friend safely thus far. I am Mavaro, and I make a study of the lore of rare and significant items - and I have met none so significant as a blade that could speak on its own. My blade," he says, pulling the one-eyed sword partway from its sheath, "is only able to speak to me, and then only when I ask first. I hope my handling of you earlier this evening was not too forward?"
Shamus Shandy
|
Shamus' eyes go wide in surprise when he hears a voice from the sword.
Fascinating. I have heard of intelligent magical items. This is the first time I have seen - or heard - one.
Shamus leans in to get a better look at the sword and speaks loudly to make sure the sword can hear him, because, well, swords don't have ears.
HEL-LOOO there, Mister GAMIN. OF COURSE we would be kind to KALKEMEDES. He is a FELLOW PATHFINDER, after all. We are DOING OUR BEST to HELP him.
Do YOU know where KALKEMEDES is GOING and WHY he is going THERE?
Fran Belmont
|
"Wow! The rumors were true!" Fran gasps as Gamin suddenly speaks up to introduce himself properly. "It's nice to meet you, Mister Gamin! I'm Fran and this is Mr. Sunshine, my best friend in all the world," she continues, hefting up the cat so the sword can 'see' him.
Wait...do intelligent weapons see like we do?
"We're happy to be able to help Mister Kalkamedes, yes indeed! Um, but Shamus has a good question - do you know why he's been sleepwalking at night?"
Reggie Bottleberry
|
Not unlike Voices, Reggie is ready for an attack when he hears a random voice coming out of nowhere. His own sword is half out of its sheath before he realizes what's happening.
A slow grin covers his face. "Well, I'll be...it really is a talking sword. That's gotta be useful when you get lonely on a mission."
"Real nice ta meetcha, Mr. Gamin. I'll bet you got some tales to tell. But I'll third that there question for the moment. Any idea where your buddy Kalkamedes is headed and why?"
"Wait...are you buddies? I s'pose he may be carryin' you 'round without you wantin' him to. Are you makin' him march out of revenge or somethin'? Tryin' to get him kilt?"
| Gamin Soup |
"I hope my handling of you earlier this evening was not too forward?"
"I'm glad you brought me on this adventure. Together, we shall slay the forces of evil!"

"Me? Why would I know? I'm not a mind reader, you know."
"Wait...are you buddies?
*snorts*
"Don't trivialize our relationship. We are soul-partners, drawn together by the mighty forces of heaven to defeat the dark powers of evil! We embark on our epic quest of justice!"
Are you makin' him march out of revenge or somethin'? Tryin' to get him kilt?"
"Okay, that's just rude."

A sassy sword at that.
Shamus thinks to himself, hoping the sword isn't telepathic.
Well, then. We'll just continue to allow Kalkemedes to lead us to wherever he's going. Obviously, it's the picture we found in his cabin. We'll just need to keep an eye out for it as we wander along.
An oil lamp lights up in Shamus' mind. He turns to address the sword.
Ahhh! Mister Gamin. Sir Kalkemedes here had a drawing of a building with strange architecture and a domed roof. It's located over some hills with mountains in the distance. Have you been there before with him?

I just need to know if any PC is wielding the sword. If nobody wants to, that's fine. The sword will not object.

"Mister Gamin seems like a very nice sword," Fran confirms with a nod. "And I think we're all on the same page with wanting to help Mister Kalkamedes, too. Wonderful! Reckum is right though, we should probably walk and talk - we've only got so much nighttime to work with."

I don't think you technically have to wield the sword to use the focus. It just has to be within 30' feet, I believe.
Reggie makes no effort to claim the sword, happy enough to let Mavaro wield...or carry Gamin, if he likes.
"I figure he's a Pathfinder, too," Reggie says about the sword.
He and Rowdy then range out ahead of the group, scouting for more trouble on the path when everyone is ready to go.
| GM Watery Soup |
Anyone can carry the sword. I just need to know if anyone wants to wield it. I'll assume the answer is no.
Great bands of stars sweep across the cloudless night sky, illuminating a series of game trails that chase through the mountain shrubs and berry bushes.
As Reggie leads the way, he spies a grizzly bear and two juvenile offspring feeding on the several species of berries. She roars with
displeasure and attempts to warn him away from her.
See Slide 4. This is an extremely small map, so I've only put Reggie on. Everyone else is 20' behind him. I'm also putting us into initiative order, but combat hasn't actually started yet (and can be avoided).
