Kenton Bowe
Kenton grabs the end of a rope, securing it to the vessel itself and taking hold of the other end firmly, then draws his rapier and with a cheery For Taldor! leaps overboard.
Dungeon Master S
INITIATIVE:

Kenton: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Xavien: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The general seizes the chance for a quick meal and rushes in to eat Xavien:
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15, and thankfully it's angle is poor.

GM: a 15 definitely hits me, unless the General is also subject to underwater combat penalties.
Too thrilled to be intimidated, Xavien holds his blade forward as a lance in both hands, stabbing forward at the mighty catfish. Technically the longsword is a slashing weapon, FWIW, but stabbing is more appropriate here and longswords are still pointy.
Koriana's Blade @ The General: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 23 Reckless Abandon, Underwater w/Swim Speed ---EDIT: if Corran's Inspire Courage is included, check is 24
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 half would be 7 --- EDIT: if Corran's Inspire Courage is included, half is 8
I hear the horses' thunder down in the valley below.
I'm waiting for the angels of Elysium,
Waiting for the eastern glow.
The apples of the valley hold the seeds of happiness,
The ground is rich from tender care.
Repay, do not forget, no, no,
Dance in the dark of night,
Sing! to the morning light!

Corran Clement
Corran looks about, confused and feeling powerless for a few moments, but he looks at his boots and the floor of the dinghy and decides to give it a go. He starts stomping and tapping, doing the rhythm and baseline from the National Anthem. He gives is a little extra gusto, to project his thumping through the water to Kenton and Xavian.
Bardic Performance, Inspire Courage.
Dungeon Master S
The general's massive mouth clamps down on Xavien: DMG: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 and Grab: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19 miraculously, Xavien avoids the grab.
Xavien fights back, poking his blade slightly into the General's side. Corran's pounding on the hull stirs the blood, even in the water.

Let's try to give Lord Xavien more of a fighting chance...
Ianthe begins casting Enlarge Person on Xavien.
Lady Aurelia Basri
"Good idea, Ianthe," Aurelia says, speaking the abbreviated words of a conjuration spell. It feeds upon a wellspring of stored magical power, and within seconds a water elemental emerges.
She points at the general direction of the General and says, "Kill."
Though it does not understand Taldane, it understands intent and disappears under the water to attack the big fish.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Dungeon Master S
Ianthe seeks to balance the scales with a complex spell while Aurelia brings forth an elemental that doesn't have any immediate impact.

Postmonster strikes again. I think I made the check but I don't recall the exact numbers this time, so...
DC 10 Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 No progress
Kenton finds swimming while holding a rope in one habd and a rapier in the other to be more difficult than he thought.
DC 10 Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Success, quarter speed to get adjacent to the General.
Dungeon Master S
Kenton makes some progress, but it's not great.
The massive fish takes another gulp attempt, still looking to eat Xavien for lunch:
ATK: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 for DMG: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 the bite is bad
Grab: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37 the grab is worse. It looks like the General is going to swallow the foolhardy Xavien in a single bite!
ROUND 2:

Xavien knows that he needs to survive going down the General's gullet---it's probably safer inside than out, after all---so he fetches a wand and taps his own brow with it, singing all the while.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 = 8
The apples turn to brown and black,
The tyrant's face is red,
Oh! war is the common cry.
Pick up your swords and fly!
The sky is filled with good and bad
Mortals never know, oh!
Oh, well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise
Waiting for the eastern glow.

Aurelia maintains concentration on the magic binding the elemental. The creature, in turn, continues to follow orders.
Slam vs The General: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Knowing that the quickest way to end this fight is to end the fish, the arcanist draws more stored magic power. She uses this to fuel a trio of magical missiles that fly unerringly toward the giant fish.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 3) + 3 = 12
Lady Ianthe Clement
Ianthe completes her spell, causing Xavien to engirthenize.
She then follows her friend's example, sending a duo of force darts at the fish.
Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
Dungeon Master S
The elemental still struggles, but then a pentad of magic missiles strike to wound it.
Additionally, Ianthe's spell makes Xavien too large to swallow!

DC 10 Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Dungeon Master S
Neither Corran nor Kenton have any luck against the legendary fish. While he can't swallow Xavien, a leg would still make a good snack.
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 MISS
It then slashes at Kenton with fins!
Port Fin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 for DMG: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

He glides through the water, but while he could easily make the boat, he is unwilling to leave Lord Karthis' side.
Lady Aurelia Basri
Aurelia repeats her spellcasting from before, producing another trio of missiles that, once released, slam into The General!
Magic Missile vs The General: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) + 3 = 9
Dungeon Master S
The rapier pierces the General's side and when Aurelia's missiles hit, the fish thrashes, releases Xavien... and goes belly up! You've killed the General! Each agent earns 320 XP.
Dungeon Master S
Since this game has been slow, the description is also old. I'll say this.... look at the map.
Kenton Bowe
Kenton lends a hand to Xavien to haul the fish to the boat. After grabbing a breath of air, he slides back into the water to secure a rope to the prize, then climbs back aboard to head into shore.
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis
When Kenton starts tugging the massive fish to the boat, Xavien shakes his head, pointing at the boat and narrowing his hands towards each other, to say boat is too small.
Instead, he helps Kenton tie a rope around the floating fish and then affixes it to the stern. He pops his head out of the water. "We shall have to tow it. Every lad to an oar!" He waits until he shrinks back down to size before clambering back in.
To pass the time, he sings as he rows.
No comfort has the fire at night
That lights the face so cold.
Oh, dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the morning light!
The magic runes are writ in gold
To bring the balance back.
Bring it back!
At last the sun is shining,
The clouds of blue roll by,
With flames from the dragon of darkness
The sunlight blinds his eyes!
Ahhhhh!
Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Using a few more rounds of Skald's Vigor to heal.
Lady Aurelia Basri
Because the GM was kind enough to nudge...
Aurelia peers down into the water, eyes focused not on the General but where he was. "You know, I think I see the remains of a proper ship in the water. Is that right? The General was known to be a blight to fishermen, but perhaps also sailors? Just what ship is down there?"
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis
Xavien's face lights up at Aurelia's query. "Mm! Perhaps a duchess's pleasure barge?"
He dives back down to investigate. I should have a few rounds of Air Bubble and Monkey Fish left.
Dungeon Master S
Xavien dives back down. Searching the muddy remains turns up four bottles of bloodberry gin (worth 100 gp each), a ruby-and-sapphire wedding ring (worth 1,000 gp), and a deck magical playing cards in a teak box; decades of water damage have rendered the box into twisted garbage, but the cards within are in good condition, if slightly stained.
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis
Xavien eyes the cards, careful not to turn any of them over---at least not yet. "What do you make of these?" he asks the Clements and Lady Basri.
Paging <Spellcraft PCs>.
Lady Aurelia Basri
Aurelia takes the proffered items, whispering a simple spell to identify if any are magical.
Should any proof to contain magic, she makes a more diligent study.
Spellcraft (Deck): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Spellcraft (Ring): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
She then hands them over to Ianthe to study and corroborate.
Dungeon Master S
Lady Aurelia fails to decipher the magic.
Corran Clement
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Corran admires the ring and can't help but wonder if he'll have need if it sooner rather than later as his thoughts drift to Sepsinia. Then he looks up and catches Aurelia fixing her hair in the sunlight, biting her lower lip as she examines the cards. There's a twist in his gut and he pushes away unknown, unexplained pain. But his eyes move to the cards. The pain fades.
He snatches them before Ianthe can get them. "Let me see... Oh I've heard of these! They're..."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Dungeon Master S
Corran has heard of magical decks... but this one is beyond him.
Corran Clement
"...Cards. Sorry, I considered making something up to be funny. I must be distracted."
He holds the deck out for Ianthe and pulls is away with a flick of the wrist when she reaches for it. He holds it out again only to repeat the jape. The third time he drops it and catches it with his other hand before presenting it to her.
"Rule of Three."
Lady Ianthe Clement
Oh, magic cards! Most interesting!
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Unfortunately, I can't recall anything like this from my studies.
Dungeon Master S
The party fails to figure out the cards.... so they....
Lord Xavien Marendo Karthis
Xavien looks carefully at the stains on the cards.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 or a Kn roll as appropriate?
Then he shrugs and wraps them gingerly in a dry cloth. "Let's haul this fish into town."
Kenton Bowe
Kenton knows little about cards, including playing them right. But he visibly brightens at the prospect of showing off the spoils of Xavien's exploits. Indeed! What tales they'll tell of you now, Lord Karthis!
Lady Aurelia Basri
"We can study this very interesting deck of cards again tomorrow. Let's get back to land please."
