On the bridge of the Perfect Silence, the First Seekers Luwazi Elsebo and Jadnura stand in front of a large tactical screen. The screen shows the Saaruq solar system, where numerous blips of different colors indicate fleet positions and other strategic information.

Luwazi and Jadnura turn away from the screen. It is good to see you all, Luwazi says in a formal tone. Jadnura walks a few steps away from the screen, puts each of his four hands on his hips, and nods approvingly before deferring to Luwazi to continue. You are some of our most trusted and experienced Starfinders, and I’m glad that you’re able to join our fleet in this very demanding mission.

Months ago, a group of Starfinders investigated a previously uncharted star system, hoping to find a lost civilization that might have more information about the warlike species we’ve come to know as jinsuls. They succeeded and discovered a civilization we’ve come to know as the Kreiholm Freehold, and much like jinsuls, they originated from the Scoured Stars. Once the Starfinders located the Freehold’s new home in the binary star system of Saaruq-Ruaan and traveled there, they realized that the jinsuls had begun a full-blown invasion of the star system. Those agents managed to rescue an important council member, which greatly helped us establish diplomatic relations with the Freehold.

Jadnura waves of his hands and the view on the tactical screen changes to show dozens of Starfinder ships in a vast formation. The kasatha speaks with deliberate emphasis. When the Starfinders returned with news of the jinsuls‘ expansionist actions, we started to muster all of the Starfinder Society‘s available starships in preparation for this mission. Our main objective is to assist in relieving the Kreiholm Freehold from an ongoing jinsul attack. This is also in part a diplomatic mission— we hope we can convince the Kreiholm Freehold that the jinsuls are a threat that must be stopped, lest they keep building their forces and maintain their offensive. Hopefully, we can forge an alliance with the Freehold and they‘ll join us in a future strike on the Scoured Stars to put an end to this threat.

Luwazi nods, sharing a concerned look with Jadnura. We’ll be exiting the Drift into the Saaruq solar system, and once we get there, it‘s going to be a rough ride. Be prepared for anything. If you have any questions, ask them now.

A tall host shirren who had switched their holoskin from a cheerful floral print to something resembling a military uniform when they entered the briefing room looks up from a datapad where they were recording information from the First Seekers and asks a few questions.

"Who is our contact with the Freehold in this area?"

"What do we know about the Jinsuls' or Freehold's strengths in this area?"

"Do we expect to come out of the Drift straight into a shooting war?"

They take notes on the responses to these questions, then turn and make some adjustments to a similarly-sized combat drone with a wicked-looking spear and an obvious Strawberry Machine Cake logo on its chassis.

What can you tell about the jinsul invasion fleet? [Jadnura]

In the aftermath of the Starfinder Society’s rescue mission to the Scoured Stars, the Jinsul Hierocracy reclaimed the trinary system. Since then, the jinsuls have dispatched expeditions to many solar systems. They seem to believe they’re tasked with a divine mandate to reunite the species that departed from the Scoured Stars in the distant past and create an interstellar empire with their priests—under the divine herald Dhurus—in control. Recently, they dispatched demagogues to convince the Kreiholm Freehold’s leadership to return to the Scoured Stars. The Freehold rebuked these jinsul agitators and believed their dealings with their old neighbors to be finished. Unfortunately, the jinsuls had other plans. According to intelligence reports, they have completed construction on a war fleet, having converted the Scoured Stars into a massive factory for war material. They launched a war fleet with the goal of forcibly conquering the Kreiholm Freehold, starting with Saaruq’s outermost planetoids. We believe a high-ranking religious figure—a hierarch—leads this jinsul fleet.

Do we expect to come out of the Drift straight into a shooting war?
Quite likely Luwasi answers. I suggest you select your ship. I would recommend a Drake class in this case

Who are the Kreiholm Freehold? [Luwazi]

They are one of the eight civilizations that left the Scoured Stars thousands of years ago. So far, the Society has encountered three species belonging to the Freehold: the bat-like nelentus and gaseous thyrs, both of which originated in the Scoured Stars, and the amphibious syngnathrixes, who are native to Saaruq-5. There are several habitable planets in the system that host other sapient species who have joined the Freehold. One of the Freehold’s leaders is a thyr named Speaks Forgotten Words, whom Starfinders rescued during a recent clash with the jinsuls.

As to what a Jinsul is... Luwasi projects an image of one (added to slides)

You are told that Jinsuls are chitinous, six-legged creatures with a set of robust forelimbs. Three rows of pincers line their mouths, each with tiny hooks to grasp their prey. Starfinders who battled jinsuls hand-to-hand report that most of the creatures bear a peculiar cybernetic augmentation: long sabers implanted into their first set of legs. The creatures use them with incredible precision and can cause severe bleeding with these blades. In addition to their deadly leg blades, some jinsuls are specialized to counter common types of combat training. So far, the Society has encountered antioperative zealots and has reason to believe that other jinsuls may be skilled in fighting mystics and technomancers. The Jinsul Hierocracy is a religious and militaristic society that worships an old god from the Scoured Stars system. Their leaders are priests who often command dangerous supernatural or magical abilities. Jinsuls are evil fanatics who cannot be reasoned with.

A middle-aged woman in armor resembling that worn by the Stewards, but without any insignia, sits at the table and listens raptly to the First Seekers. Her expression is grave throughtout the briefing, and her face seems to pale momentarily when the image of the jinsul appears. After a moment, she asks dryly, "So the Society is going to war? Do we have support from the Pact Council...or the Stewards?"

It's firepower these things respect. Krara snorts. the Drake's got enough weapons we can blow a hole right through them before they have time to react.
Krara has a preference for the Drake, but is mostly fine either way. She can Intimidate to Demand things of people, and can Engineer moderately in a pinch, but is likely going to Gun

The vesk smiles as she sees Desha appear. Desha can vouch for that: remember how well we blew apart those damned Azlanti!

You may not recall, but I, along with First Seeker Jadnura here, am one of the agents you so valiantly came to rescue from the Scoured Stars. I remember the vicious attacks of the junsuls well. I only want to know the scope of our action for this mission. Sounds like we have that in order, though."

Turning to Krara, Desha gives a weak smile, "Yes, we did prove ourselves together that day, didn't we, Krara?" She addresses the rest of the crew, "Well, as my friend here can attest, I have skills in the mystical arts that may aid us on the field of battle as well as in any ship-to-ship combat. I also have a few years of experience from a long time ago as captain of a Stewards vessel. I could serve as captain for this mission as well if there are no others who wish to take the helm."

Desha can serve as either Magic Officer (Mysticism +14) or as Captain (Diplomacy +16, Intimidate +13). If both of those roles are filled by others, or if we need an extra Gunner, Desha can step up there as well (Gunnery +9).

((I'm under the effects of a massive internet outage which is now in it's third day - and no clue to when it will be fixed - posting will be sporatic))

Luwazi Elsebo sends a message to every vessel in the Starfinder fleet, ordering each of the ships to exit the Drift. One by one, the ships disappear out of the Drift and arrive moments later near the planet Saaruq-5. There, dozens of Kreiholm and jinsul ships dart around each other, already engaged in intense firefights. Blinding flashes of laser cannons and plasma appear in fantastic displays over the blue-green surface of Sarruq-5.

You receive additional orders from First Seeker Jadnura: Get to your battle stations! Our fleet is deploying to assist the Kreiholm Freehold’s ships and engage these damned jinsuls. You have a special task—our analysts have identified an unexpected threat. The enemy has deployed a new type of starship, and they’re mercilessly taking down several of our ships trying to join the Kreiholm Freehold’s defense. Destroy those new jinsul ships before they cause more trouble!

Desha strides onto the ship, passing Kait'lax's drone on the way aboard. She nods to the drone and makes her way straight to the bridge, where she takes a seat in the captain's chair. As she pulls up the Drake's interface, she also pulls out a rectangular metallic plate from a case at her hip. She taps the mystic sigil engraved in the center of the plate, and the symbols surrounding the sigil begin to glow a brilliant purple. The light condenses into the shape of a stack of virtual harrow cards. For the moment, Desha leaves the cards alone and instead taps the internal comms key on her interface to speak to her crew.

"Alright, Starfinders, we are about to engage in a fight for the survival of our allies in the Kreiholm Freehold. They are a people like any other who hope for the freedom to live where they choose, and as they choose. We will not abandon them to the whims of the tyrannical zealots among the jinsuls. So am I pushing the targeting on one ship, or rebalancing shields, or switching to guns

Sorry too used to tier 1-4 space combat missed I had option to aid targeting on one at cost of resolve point but if I am not balancing shields may alter engineers plans. bold is my preferred plan

Glad I didn't try overpower this phase.

Krara's eyes widen in surprise as one of the ships moves right at the Drake. They're mocking us!

Failed flyby free attack with the Particle Beam: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 2 = 33 for damage: 10d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 5, 6, 6, 6, 1, 1, 2) = 35

They'll regret that!

The next round I take I go full speed. (really full speed.)

Even if the engine is glitching, Prototype is able to maneuvrer and position on the afk arc of Ship 2. Like it is normal or following a flow..

[ooc]Paradox: (12)+17-2=27. Just the dc to Maneuvrer I should show a diffrent arc for each ship. If not make me back off 1 hex.[ooc]

I think Blue is our bow, so we're facing away from all the ships? Is that intentional?

Desha rocks dramatically in her captain's chair, nearly falling out as the series of blasts impact the Drake. As she steadies herself, she calls down to the gunnery station, "Krara, are you alright down there? Let's get those sights adjusted...manually if you have to! We need to lay some fire on these ships!"

Encourage Gunnery again. Auto-succeed on Diplomacy check

We're definitely facing away from them. Better for defense because we still have full aft shields, but less firepower.

"Aft weapons online."

the Forward persistant beam have been used this round. There no utility to face. And one enemy ship is on our starbord and the other is at the aft. So, we will tank.

Got it! And makes total sense then: forgot that the persistent beam can still only fire once a round even if AoOing.

Krara spins in her chair as she launches a single missile at the locked-on ship, saving her full broadside for the following round.

Antimatter Missile v locked-on, hurt blue ship: 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 23 for damage: 10d10 ⇒ (10, 8, 4, 9, 7, 5, 1, 4, 8, 1) = 57
