As the firing stops, Muyari emerges from within one of the rooms in the corridor. They thank you for your efforts and offer to help escort the others to safety aboard the Honorbound. "I do not know what else you hope to do here," they say, "but there may be some supplies to aid you in your fight against the jinsuls if you check the delivery ward. Otherwise, we should get to your ship before the jinsuls send another squad to wipe us all out."
Any more searching you want to do here? Or do you want to go ahead and evac to the Honorbound?
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington
|
Gab quickly checks the jinsuls for any surviving equipment. "We will check the delivery ward, then hustle out of here."
Kultainen Vaimo
|
Kultanien nods. "Let us quickly search for the datapad and the delivery room, and then make sure the injured can be got to safety."
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington
|
While looking through the jinsul gear, if there is any, he motions toward the door on south at the far side of the medical room. "Is that way going to take us where we're headed? Or should we go the way the jinsuls came?"
| GM Mjolbeard |
Muyari looks from one of your crew to the others as you discuss retrieving Dr. Yuuqa's datapad. "Did you say that datapad was supposed to be in the operating theater? Ah...well, I hope you're able to retrieve it. That explosion we heard before the jinsuls arrived sounded like it was coming from that direction.
"As for the delivery ward, it's just around the corner here. Room in the green square on the map
"The operating theater is to the southwest of that. Room in the yellow circle"
You move to check these locations while Muyari musters the civilians to evacuate to the Honorbound. After some quick searching, you find that the delivery ward contains a basic physician drone(AR), a dermal stapler(A)R, and two mk 3 serums of healing.
Moving on to the operating theater, you struggle for a moment to force open the door, which is hang jammed in its frame. You search and discover that a secondary generator must have exploded, destroying anything of value in this room. Boo! Sorry, this is rough, but you're gonna miss out on a bit of treasure from this room. Hit me up in discussion if you wanna talk about it at all.
Ready to evac?
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington
|
"I'm full up on magic, so can't use that ring. I'll take one of the screamer grenades ... both of them, if no one else wants them." He gathers up any of the rest of the unclaimed equipment in his null-space chamber.
In the operating theater, Gab activates his x-ray visor, to see if he can perhaps locate the datapad or any other useful equipment that is salvagable but hidden within the rubble.
Selene Scintilla
|
Selene searches through alternate realities and concludes that the datapad's destruction is a forgone conclusion.
Sorry she says. I can't see any possibility that the data survived. Even if the datapad survived physical damage, the EMP pulse from the magnetrons in the body scanners wiped the memory files.
She starts helping with the evac.
Magnus Chaal
|
"This is unfortunate, however we can still help the people," states Magnus as he follows Selene. Looking at Gab, "I am not very good with grenades, it would be best if you took them."
Kultainen Vaimo
|
Kultanien nods. "I'll start getting folk to the ship."
Sorry,. last post from me for a week or so. Good luck everyone. Bot-me in my profile.
| GM Mjolbeard |
This operating theater is where the hospital staff perform delicate procedures too complex to be carried out entirely by machines. Dr. Yuuqa and her colleagues presided over surgeries here, and the room contains advanced medical technology unique to the Kreiholm Freehold.
Tiered seating around the room allows for observation by medical students, while a table at the center of the room provides a space for the patient.
That is, that's what this room was before the jinsul attack. After the initial bombing, it seems that a generator that powered much of the complex machinery in this room was damaged and eventually exploded, destroying the delicate equipment housed here. Gab also sees cabinet to the southwest containing a ruined hypopenAR. He also spots a datapad plugged into a holoprojector to the west, presumably the one belonging to Dr. Yuuqa, but it too was destroyed beyond recovery or repair in the blast.
You conclude that anything of value in here has unfortunately been lost to you, so you decide to move on and help evacuate the survivors to the Honorbound. Once everyone is safely onboard, the Honorbound takes off to avoid jinsul reprisals. As the ship reenters Saaruq 5’s atmosphere, you have a chance to rest and get to know the nelentus, syngnathrixes, and thyr you rescued.
During this time, you can take several actions as Captain Yuluzak attempts to hail nearby Kreiholm ships still engaged in the conflict. Feel free to roleplay this as much as you'd like.
Cultural Exchange (Culture or Diplomacy check): Talk with some of the survivors to learn more about the Kreiholm Freehold’s inhabitants and culture. (People of interest: Dr. Yuuqa, Muyari, Vrinn)
Follow-Up Care (Medicine check or expend healing items): Provide additional care to the injured refugees to earn the survivors' trust.
Gather Intel: You may wish to question the survivors about the jinsuls and the Kreiholm Freehold’s connection to the Scoured Stars.
Magnus Chaal
|
Magnus moves over to Muyari. "How are you holding up? Captain Yuluzak should get us out of here in a bit. You are the first nelentu I have meet. Now that we have a bit more time, I would like to know more about the Krehiholm Freehold." I have a 28 diplomacy if I can take 10.
Selene Scintilla
|
Selene is also speaking to Dr Yuuqa, curious about the Kreiholm Freehome and the inhabitants within it diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
| GM Mjolbeard |
Muyari replies frankly as Magnus checks in on the soldier, "A little shaken up, to be honest. I'm glad we were able to get out of that hospital at the least. Felt like we were all just waiting for the jinsuls to come wipe us out. At least here we feel like there's a small chance we can survive. Our civilization’s military has focused exclusively on defense. Haven't fought an actual war in centuries! I don't know how long we can hold out."
Dr. Yuuqa appreciates Selene's curiosity, but remains somewhat reticent. She seems to be somewhat dismayed by the loss of her datapad and the important medical breakthroughs contained therein. "I'm glad you were there to help save the survivors, of course," she says, "I just wish there was a way you also could have recovered that datapad. The data on that device could have lead to new technologies that would save untold lives!" She remains somewhat morose and doesn't open up about the Freehold's various species.
Selene Scintilla
|
Selene tries to help Dr Yuuqa. The data may be lost on the pad, but much of it may still be in your subconscious, and I may know techniques to getting it out from your dreams. Also when we return to Absalom Station, I may be able to enlist the aid of a Livarian Dreamer to help retrieve the data from your mind.
The least I can do, is to continue to try and explore alternative realities in a trance state in order to see if I can find it. There has to be a probability where it survived.

They swap stories about domestic life on Saaruq 5 and Vrinn pictures of his partner Quara and the pair’s first brood.

Seeing that the others are talking to the various Kreiholm citizens, Gab decides to turn his attention to providing medical attention to the survivors.
Medicine, expertise: 1d20 + 17 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 17 + (1) + 2 = 39
| GM Mjolbeard |
Yeah, the scenario isn't especially clear about that, Gab. I think in a setting where we have a hard time limit on our game (like a 5 hour slot at a con or something), maybe it would be limited. I'm leaving it pretty open, though. You also just cracked the last of the "Cultural Exchange" things with that Medicine check...
Gab gets to work checking in on the survivors' condition while the others chat or provide counsel through their raw grief and shock. Dr. Yuuqa soon notices the ysoki hard at work caring for her people and joins him, talking about the various species of the Kreiholm Freehold as they work together to tend to the sick or wounded. She politely asks questions about the physiology of Pact Worlds species while sharing information about the species of her home world. She explains that she treated a wounded vesk who stumbled into the system and passed away several years ago, which is why she has the Vesk language in her hospital’s database.
And I'm going to fast-forward and say you would also be interested in Gathering Intel, and since that doesn't require a check, you get it for free!
As time wears on, talk turns to the invasion still in progress. You begin to question the survivors about the jinsuls and the Kreiholm Freehold’s connection to the Scoured Stars. While most of the survivors have no real knowledge of these topics and can only describe the terrifying and unexpected invasion, Treads the Clouds (an agender thyr mystic) is a historian who has studied these topics themselves.
"The Kreiholm Freehold descends from a civilization that traces its roots to a region of space known as the Scoured Stars, consisting of several diverse species that left the Scoured Stars in search of an idyllic solar system in the Vast. Named after the leader who brought us to our new home, the Kreiholm Freehold has spread across five planets within the binary star system Saaruq-Ruaan.
"Our civilization has done little in terms of exploring beyond Saaruq’s orbiting bodies, as these fertile planets fulfill all our resource needs. Further, since our arrival in system, the freehold’s founders instilled laws to dissuade exploration and trade. Originally, these laws protected the people from other groups fleeing the Scoured Stars, and they kept the freehold hidden from the ancient deity, Kadrical, that ruled from our distant home system. Today, most Kreiholm citizens accept this isolationist policy without truly understanding its roots, and the freehold’s origins in distant space are merely a historic footnote.
"That is, until a few months ago. Against all odds, we were visited by jinsul demagogues seeking to convince the Kreiholm Freehold’s leadership to return to the Scoured Stars. Our governing council rebuked these jinsul agitators, however, and believed our dealings with our old neighbors to be finished.
"But it seems the jinsul hierarchs have other plans. The jinsuls launched a war fleet with the goal of forcibly conquering the Kreiholm Freehold, starting with Saaruq’s outermost planetoids. The invasion seems to be lead by one of the Hierarchs, a powerful jinsul priest of their god, Kadrical."
| GM Mjolbeard |
An incoming signal cuts the pleasantries short, however, and Treads the Clouds helps translate the message. "The distress signal is from one of our command ships, named Kreiholm’s Hope. The ship was critically damaged in the battle, and jinsuls are preparing to board and kill any surviving crew. Furthermore, this ship--no!" Treads the Clouds gasps, interrupting the translation of the message, then continues, "The ship carries an important passenger, the thyr council member Speaks Forgotten Words! Oh, please! Can you help them?"
Yuluzak immediately springs to action and orders his crew to change course to intercept Kreiholm’s Hope[i] so the Starfinders can attempt a final rescue mission.
While en route, remember that you have had time to recover SP and reload your guns. Just let me know if you are doing so.
Acting as pilot, Joyozalva maneuvers the [i]Honorbound and lowers the hatch to allow you direct access to the upper airlock doors of the Kreiholm’s Hope. Once aboard Kreiholm’s Hope, it’s clear that the ship’s systems are failing. Lights flicker overhead, and an insistent, high-pitched tone trumpets through the chilly air. A set of twin corridors with lifts on either side lead toward a set of double doors. It seems for a moment that you've been deposited in a fortunate spot close to the ship’s command deck and luckily avoid any jinsul patrols between them and the bridge.
That appearance quickly fades, however, as the lift doors up ahead open and a pair of jinsuls emerge, clicking their mandibles angrily at you!
