Both Grelthe and Andros stand still, hypnotized by the snake skeleton creature.
Aatish on the other hand, shakes off the distraction. She nimbly tip toes around the creature to the other side. The creature attempts to bite the bard as she moves over it, but the Aatish is too slippery. She attempts to slash at it with her scimitar, but is distracted by the pit.
Similarly, Tavon is able to shake off the distraction. Holding his hands out in front of him, a blast of water shoots forth at the creature. Direct hit! Some bones are blasted off into the pit down below.
The android Roomba easily shakes off the distraction - mind of steel! She quickly pierces the creature. Her weapon hits the creature directly, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
Rachel shoots her bow at the creature. She sees that Roomba's piercing attacks aren't very effective so chooses to use her blunt arrows instead. However, her attacks go wide.

Both Grelthe and Andros are lost in a daze.
Aatish then starts dancing. Her movement distracts the foe long enough for her to slash at it. Her scimitar knocks a rib of the beast off. Success but not all of it goes through!
Upon closer look, Aatish realizes this thing isn't undead - too many peculiarities! The ribs look glued on almost. Looks like this thing was purposely built.
Roomba drops her rapier and pulls out a weapon that she think will work better. And she's right! The hammer smashes some bones in and the thing screeches out!
Then Tavon does what he does best. A blast of water flows from his hands towards the beast. Not only is it very wet, it's starting to look very hurt! Barely holding on.

They hear a faint sound coming from the pit - must be the creature hitting the bottom several hundred feet below.
Now, attention turns to the secret door. Tavon tries to open it. Locked unfortunately. Please make a Disable Device check if you want to open it!

Grelthe smashes the door over and over. Finally, she hears a *click*. Must've damaged the lock. She tries to open it... and she's in luck! It opens.
Suddenly, Grelthe hears a hissing sound from inside! Another snake-like creature! It attempts to lunge at her. The creature resembles a small, metallic cobra with its body made of overlapping iron plates. Its eyes are pinpoints of red lights. Behind the snake is a sarcophagus.

Grids on a circle are hard to logic. There are two "corners" of squares between the door spot and Roomba, can someone fit there? Or would I have to be squeezing in Roomba's square? If she can't fit there then she will go further away around the far side of the circle and draw her javelin instead.
GM Mauve |
I'll say that any square with that is mostly pit, you wont be able to stand in without risk of falling in (so can't go to the square south unless you want to risk falling in!). Unfortunately, I think Grelthe is too big for the square just to her east. So she can try to go around the pit and draw her javelin.
Grelthe takes out her morningstar and smashes down on the metallic cobra. A loud clang reverberates throughout Grelthe's body! But she left a huge dent in the creature's side. Not as much as she would have hoped.
Grelthe moves back to give Aatish some space. The ifrit jumps in and slices the cobra! But unfortunately, her strikes aren't strong enough to get through.
Then Andros is off to the side, cheerleading!

The iron cobra lashes out at Grelthe, but the creature can't grasp on to her armor. MISS!
Grelthe, sensing an opportunity to smash, smashes the creature. Some of the iron scales dent as it's obviously harmed.
Aatish, no matter how much she channels the Dawnflower, can't seem to get through the armor - it's far too dense for her scimitar!
Both Rachel and Roomba aren't able to damage the creature either. Roomba's rapier simply glides off the hard iron while Rachel's arrow misses the creature completely.
Tavon blasts the creature with water, what he does best. Not only is the cobra wet, several more of the iron scales dent. The angles of the scales do not look comfortable.
It lashes out one last time. But as it does, the iron scales fall off the creature one by one. After a few seconds, what's left is just a pile of iron. Destroyed!
Looking beyond the pile of rubble, the Pathfinders find an ornately carved stone sarcophagus. Opening it up, they find an extraordinarily well-preserved (but dead) human man with dark hair, a high forehead, and expressive bows. He is wearing a robe of deep emerald and a medallion of a seven-pointed star around his neck. The body is also wearing bracers that Andros can detect as magic.
Don't think any of you have Knowledge (arcana) or (history).
This is known as a Sihedron Medallion. It hangs on a leather cord as a silver disc inscribed with a seven-pointed star. It was once a very important symbol in ancient Thassilon, though few know of the actual significance of the star today. These medallions were given to favored agents of the ancient runelords.
While worn, a Sihedron medallion grants its wearer a +1 resistance bonus on all saving throws. Once per day, it may be commanded to bestow the effects of false life on the wearer - these effects end if the medallion is removed. Placed on the neck of a dead body, the Sihedron medallion preserves the body indefinitely with gentle repose. You can assume the body of the man was taking advantage of the last effect.
These are bracers of armor +1

spellcraft bracers, guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
This medallion is ancient...likely thought lost to the world, I believe. It has many properties...even unto death, it protects the wearer. Very fascinating. The bracers are beyond my ken. Perhaps if I meditate on it and re-examine them tomorrow, Sarenrae might grant me insight into their provenance.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
Grelthe has no problem taking the bracers from the dead man ("He's not using them, they do the dead no good"), but will balk if anyone suggests taking the medallion, since its purpose is to preserve the dead technically he IS still using it. She won't stop anyone else from taking it, she will just grumble about it. ("No respect for the dead...")
Andros Therinor |
I understand your reticence to removing the medallion, Grelthe. I believe its purpose is not needed for him anymore. If we bury him, or at least administer funeral rites, there would not be an issue. I don't think there is going to be a mission mounted to recover the poor soul's body. That, and the value of recovering a lost piece of ancient Thassilon would be worth something. And I am not talking about coin, either...just tom clarify.
Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
That is enough to quash her concerns.

Grelthe, the singing Paladin |
Grelthe is happy with her borrowed armor. She assumes they are bracers of mage armor or somesuch, and offers them to the spellcaster types before stowing them in her pack if no one wants them right now. She offers the Medallion to Andros since he seems to understand its properties best.

The two "dogs" look up at Aatish. As she approaches, Aatish notices that the room is a charnel house of blood, bones, and scraps of rotten flesh. Strange runes have been sloppily drawn on the walls using some dark brown pigment. A moss-covered stone monolith stands in the center of the room, wreathed in goassamer wisps of gray mist that seem to congeal around the crumbling stone.
Then Aatish can see the "dogs" more clearly. The two creatures appear as hairless, malformed corpses with gray-green pustule covered skin and oversized jaws. One stands up on its hind legs and Aatish can hear a quiet grumble - they are communicating! But Aatish does not recognize the language.
The one standing up sniffs the air and then looks in the direction of the Pathfinders. Only Aatish is quick enough to react before the creatures run in. Fresh lunch for them!
