Chakos attempts to break free of the goo encasing him...

Hard CON Check (45): 1d100 ⇒ 90 Fail

Hard CON Check (30): 1d100 ⇒ 15 = Success!
1 Damage from acid
STR Check (25): 1d100 ⇒ 48 = Failure!

The huge worm-like thing sends an enormous globule of goo in their directions even as he lets go of the grenade, and in the next moment Elliot finds himself encased in the stuff, which burns and hardens almost instantly! He manages to hold his breath, but straining against the hardened shell yields no results and the archaeologist feels panic grip him!

With no regard for personal safety, he tries to rock himself back and forth, trying to make himself fall in order to help break the hardened glue that has imprisoned him!

I've read that you can 'push' a check, so long as you provide an explanation of how your pushing the roll and are good with potentially dire consequences should you fail. Well, this seems like a damn good time to 'push that STR check to get the hell out of here! If it's allowed, roll is below.

'Push' STR Check (25): 1d100 ⇒ 14 = Success?

If you deem a 'push' is not allowed, I'll burn 23 luck to make that STR roll anyway. It'll put me below 30 (so no 'escape death' possible going forward), but I think it's a necessary choice.

Whether through luck or sheer force of will, Elliot finds himself free of the hardened shell and gasps for breath as he regains his feet and takes a look around to see what fresh hell awaits him...

Awesome, Elliot! I can see the scene in the movie where you manage to rock back and forth until it smashes and releases you, gasping on the floor!

New round! Everyone go!

"Elliot! Chakos!" Antonio breaks the rest of himself free of the hardened goo and sees Elliot gasping on the floor. He rushes over to him. "Did you see Chakos?" Then he turns to see a massive lump nearby. "Chakos, are you in there!"

The priest kicks at the hard shell.

Chakos, although he is suffocating, continues to try and get out of his cocoon.

STR Check (50): 1d100 ⇒ 16 Success

Suffocation: 1d6 ⇒ 4 +1 for Acid

So 5 damage.

I only needed a regular STR check because of Antonio's assistance, right? Either way, I actually made the Hard check.

Abraham Hard CON Check (45): 1d100 ⇒ 44 Success.
Abraham Hard STR Check (25): 1d100 ⇒ 36 Failure.

A total of 6 damage.

While Antonio helps break Chakos out of his prison, Abraham still struggles to get out.

Elliot, go!

Elliot's out. Only Abraham is still stuck. But it's Elliot's turn.

Seeing the others breaking free of the goo, Elliot moves to assist Abraham, who seems to be having trouble. He glances over his shoulder at the gate, hoping that the portal is destroyed and the terrifying dhole is forever trapped in whatever world lies beyond their own...

Abraham CON (45): 1d100 ⇒ 92 Failure
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Abraham STR (50): 1d100 ⇒ 16 Hard Success.

Inside the shell of hardened acidic goo, Abraham begins to suffocate! Elliot smashes at the cocoon, and the ex-soldier shrugs mightily from within, shattering the hardened goo. He collapses, gasping.

Elliot spares a glance for the portal and finds that it is spinning rapidly and without stability. Sparks begin to fly from both the portal and the instrument panels. Smoke billows fires begin to erupt! It looks as though the whole thing is getting ready to explode!

Elliot does his best to support Abraham and heads for the entrance. "Right behind you! Padre! Hurry before that thing explodes and kills us all!" Or worse... He thinks to himself as he wonders for a moment what sorts of horrors lie beyond that portal, should they all be swept up into it. But he firmly shoves the terrifying thought aside and heads for the tunnel entrance as fast as he can while supporting Abraham - or at least until the soldier is able to move on his own again.

Abraham chokes for air as he breaks out of the hardening cocoon, gasping for breath before grabbing a hold of Elliot and rushing towards the door. There was no time to talk, to try and process the horrors that they had witnessed here. All there was time to do was rush forward and live for another day.

Antonio helps Elliot with Abraham, nearly picking up the man over his shoulder. Vamos! We need to move!"

You hustle out of the ancient serpent-man sanctuary as instrument panels burn and mysterious gasses explode behind you. Ahead of you, the many leather-winged beasts burst into the sky, startled by the rising tide of noise and flames.

Just as you make it to the cliff's edge a cataclysmic explosion touches off in the mountainside chamber. Flames roar towards you as if you were in the barrel of the world's largest shotgun.

What do yo do?

Elliot looks for a place to dive off to the side as well, trying to avoid tumbling down the cliff if there is any shelter to be had to one side or the other. But if worse comes to worse, he will try to drop down so as to avoid the blast and keep from sliding all the way down to the base of the cliff as best he can.

I'm presuming it isn't a terribly steep cliff, since we didn't make any physical checks to climb it earlier? Is it just a rocky slope of moderate incline? Obviously diving off a vertical cliff would be suicide, but if it's just a moderate slope then diving down and grabbing hold to whatever brush or trees might be available would be a viable option here.

Abraham Climb (47%): 1d100 ⇒ 21

Beaten and battered, Abraham managed to scale the cliff above the entrance and cling there in safety.

Chakos lunged into a side room, but the flames roared into every cranny and found him!

Antonio tried to climb with Abraham but lost his footing.

Elliot tried to leap to a safe ledge but couldn't catch the edge and plummeted.

Chakos fire damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13

Elliott falling damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3) = 10

Chakos and Elliot, scratch off 30 points of Luck each and tell me what unlikely circumstance saved your life!

Tumbling down the steep slope, Elliot screams as he suddenly feels nothing but open air beneath him! In the next instant, he is smashing through tree branches before landing heavily in a grassy streambed. The archaeologist groans in pain as he runs along his body from head to toe. Nothing feels broken... lacerated, bruised and sprained yes, but he is somehow, thankfully, alive and even able to walk. Painfully... yes, very painfully... Well, it's more of a limp, really...

He makes his way back to the bomb, wondering how much time is left before it explodes - and wondering if maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing after all...

Wow! OK then, hey thank goodness for Luck! How many HP do I have? Just 1 I'm guessing?

It's not "scratch off 30 Luck" right? It should be, "you must have 30, but you scratch off all of your Luck.

Chakos ducked into a side passage to try and avoid the flames, which worked, somewhat... As the rumbling began to be felt through the mountain, the roof of the cave he tried to hide in fell, and Chakos was knocked silly by the falling debris, but he was luckily protected from the flames.

I'll take my damage as "crap falling on me from the ceiling" instead of flames, if that's ok.

1 HP left, right?

It took a while for Chakos to wake, and he had a thundering sound in his head, and his arms, and his back. 'Can you hear thunder in your muscles,' Chakos wondered? Maybe not, but it sure seemed like he could. He pushed the rubble off of his battered and bruised self, and called out, "Padre? Elliott?" His voice caused his head to pound even worse.

Oops. You're right, of course.

Abraham, Antonio, Chakos and Elliot limp back to the truck. The haftorang device is where they left it, near the mouth of the dhole cavern. It must be ticking down towards zero. You think you have a few hours at best.

Elliot winces as Chakos tends to his injuries. "Thanks. I feel like I fell off a cliff. Oh. Yeah..." He grins at his friend, then winces again as he chuckles lightly at his own joke.

Glancing at the haftorang device, the archaeologist can only shrug. "I think we need to drop in that pit and hope for the best. Drive like hell out of here and hope that it doesn't kill us all." He suggests.

That's all I've got! Anyone else?

Elliot nods at the Father's words, pointing at the bomb that is still sitting out in the open. "Yes, we need to something about that first! I don't think we can take the chance we have the time to disarm it, much less hope there's someone around that can do it. Let's just push it into the pit and hope the dhole tunneled deep enough to make it so the blast won't kill everyone within a hundred miles. Us included! Come on, Father help me out here!"

Unless the others try to stop him for some reason, the archaeologist is bound and determined to drop the haftorang device into the dhole tunnel that drops nearly straight down. Hopefully deep enough to render the coming blast a lot less destructive than it might otherwise be...

Antonio helps them move the device to the hole, using his heft to maneuver the heavy device.

The four men manhandle the eldritch device into the vast dhole tunnel. It is set to go off in 163 minutes! They hustle back to the vehicles and leave one behind, taking lighter armored car which will move more easily over the narrow jungle roads. Elliot keeps a close eye on his watch while Antonio drives down the mountain at an alarming speed.

As the team bounces painfully into view of the two camps, there are hundreds of villagers, some of them obviously infected with the Yellow Deah, milling about on the road. Those that can, run towards the car shouting questions in Malay.

Antonio, if you slow down for them, they might cut off your path to the military base and any hope of escape.

What do you do?

Elliot glances back at the villagers they've left behind, guilt nibbling at the edges of his mind. But they were dead already, weren't they? They had no cure, and surely they had all been infected, even if they weren't showing signs yet. And there was no telling how many serpent people might be lurking among them. "Hope it's far enough away from that blast. We've probably got just over two hours now." Elliot agrees.

Yup, back to camp. I'm feeling bad about leaving those villagers in our wake, but not sure that stopping would have done any good. The cure has eluded us thus far, if there's even a cure to be had.

"We grab the samples and we get moving again back to the airbase. We know nothing of that weapon's range. The further away we are, the better." Abraham says from the back, watching out behind them for any danger that could be had. This place was doomed if these weapons were as deadly as Shapiro said they were.
