It happens, work/life/other stuff gets in the way of my plans all the time.

![]() |

Hi all, I've been a bit under the weather for the past couple of days. Sorry for my absence, but I'm not ready to come back quite yet. Nothing serious; I'll be back soon. If you've been botting me, thanks; if not, please feel free to! Thanks again for your patience!

GM Merisial the risen |

Sorry guys you need a new gm
Physically I’m fine but I have lost the mental capacity to run a game at the moment

![]() |

Completely understandable.
Can you play or do you need to take the game off? If you can play I’ll just swap out and run it. If you need a mental break (totally cool if you do) then we need to decide if we should run with four or search outside the group for a GM.

Alright, that works. I’ll go grab the scenario, get caught up and get us moving. Gimme a day or two.

Scenario purchased, request to take over the threads submitted. I'll start working up some slides and catching up to make the next post.

The line of danny boy digging his claws in is just to indicate where familiar is. Now I'm 3rd level conjurer can use him to deliver buffs to my summons as designated toucher

GM TOP |

Busy day today, hopefully will get a post up later.

![]() |

Should add using gm star replay for this one

![]() |

Sorry for the absence...RL hit me hard this past week and I've neglected things because of it.
Getting back into it

![]() |

So, Mechanically speaking, instead of facing off against a couple hundred (maybe up to a thousand, the scenario isn't clear) Duergar, the scenario has you doing Survival or Knowledge Dungeoneering Checks to get to places of interest. This dude can provide a small bonus by giving directions or a larger bonus by attaching to a face. I'd suggest the Survival route since all of you can attempt to Aid, where K: Dungeoneering I think only two of you are trained.
So it would probably make sense then to have the Oni meld with whomever has the best Survival bonus? (Kasvot has a +1, along with his wayfinder's +2 to avoid getting lost)

GM TOP |

That would make the most sense, but I totally get it if that isn't something someone wishes to do. It's a pretty weird idea to even contemplate.

GM TOP |

I'm reaching out to LGZ, see if he will be able to post soon.

![]() |

If there's a way to raise LGZ and continue with him, I think we should do that. But if not, I think we should continue on without him. We are a resourceful bunch, and Kasvot has a lot he can do, including more blindness and hideous laughter, and plenty of haste. He also has the stone call wand, which he should probably open with in the next encounter. But it's got to be only one more encounter left, right?

![]() |

@LGZ - I didn't want to assume the use of your resources (wand and such).
I'm okay pressing on. After all, these are designed with a party of four in mind, correct? I just think we are not optimized for our established style of combat.
I also have my Extended metamagic rod. Casting Heroism on Nina should help to lessen the effects of the curse for nearly two hours. How long does the mask creature think it will take to get to the big bad?

![]() |

seasons 0-3 were designed for 4,Season 4 onwards were designed for 6 with an adjustment for 4 players. So actually we are doing this in hardish mode with 5 taking on a scenario written for six.. Having said that if real life is tough for the player of LGZ then continuing is a strong possibility. I would guesstimate the time it has taken to get to forge from the entrance is the time it will take to arrive at the final fight. I have 3 small earth elemental summons and two burning hands to deal with swarms and cl3 magic missle wand. Will need to sell the useless druid wand I have after the scenario. LGZ is max weight is 190lbs and so can fit in his own bag of holding (may have to take everything else out first) but my handy haversack can take that Arboreal will hold the ranseur (cant hold it properly so no aoos as will be holding upright in one hand and casting with the other)

![]() |

I marked off two more 1st level spells for the magic missiles; that's what you meant above, right? Otherwise, I think Kasvot is ready to proceed, as long as that's our plan!

![]() |

So... that is pretty clear. If you all leave, the mission ends. What will the vote be? Continue with Four or End the Scenario to get LGZ raised?
Kasvot's vote is to continue on and raise LGZ after the conclusion--but to be very cautious, and plan our strategies moving forward!

![]() |

For what it's worth, my vote would be to continue with 4 and I get rezzed after the conclusion, but naturally that is all up to you guys.

![]() |

This does need to be a unanimous decision to proceed I think Kasvot myself are in Dimple is expressed an interest in carrying on but if Niza our one frontliner with low hit points and poor saves doesnt fancy the job of tanking even with extended heroism and possibly extended barksin. (this last fight so much depends on who gets the drop)

![]() |

Kasvot will plan on using the wand of stone call to open our next fight. That will do area damage and create difficult terrain all around our enemies (assuming we don't learn something immediately that makes that a terrible strategy). That should start us off a) not wanting to rush in right quick and b) with some time to apply buffs, such as the haste Kasvot will also drop in ASAP.
The wand has 6 charges, so as long as they don't have a good ranged or blasting threat, nothing stops Kasvot from just spamming it too.

![]() |

I can also drop the Glitterdust (twice if need be) to try and blind the baddies.

Okay, so this scenario is a tiny bit railroady when it comes to 'surprise rounds'. It pretty much just starts the next fight with the boss speaking and doing a thing and then initiative starts. I can SORTA see the reasoning behind doing it that way, considering the entire mountain of enemies are on high alert for you all. BUT... in the absence of a surprise round, I see no reason to prevent you all from pre-buffing for this fight, especially since the enemies are built with their own pre-buffing in mind.
So, once you all find your way to the final area, I'll allow a period of pre-buffing before heading in to beat this big bad up. You are welcome to even use minute per level buffs if you wish, though if they are from a consumable item I'd strongly suggest activating them last.
I'm pretty sure you all can win this. Good luck!

![]() |

Extended Heroism on Niza (would have cast in the Xorn room).
Bless before we go in (caster level 1)
Scroll of Glitterdust in hand.

GM TOP |

Well, that was a wise decision to press on, damn.
I'll point out a few differences between this fight and the last.
Initiative was completely won by you all this fight AND you were able to pre-buff. You also went all out instead of holding back some abilities. The elemental gem was MASSIVE, definitely the MVP of the battle. And lastly, RNG was decently in your favor instead of severely against you.
All in all, very well played by everyone and excellent teamwork. The scenario isn't 'complete', but the biggest danger has certainly passed.

![]() |

I always thought the elemental gems were a bit pricey for a single use item. However having seen one in action I have to say the price point is about right!
In other news I can now reveal on the previous playthrough the last fight is where pregen Kyra died. Classic error tried to do something funky rather than stay in healing spam mode

GM TOP |

Alright, now we are approaching the end. It appears Niza and Dimple both used their rerolls (Dimple, you DID need that reroll or it would have been a fail). So only LGZ appears to have the option to reroll their dayjob.
That said, we will need to figure out how LGZ is being rezzed. He claims he can cover it himself, but the option is there to help him with some of the costs.
Raise Dead costs:
16 PP OR
5,450 gp OR
8 PP & 2,450 gp
TWO restorations are also needed to manage the negative levels, each costs:
4PP OR
1280 gp
(total being 8 PP or 2560 gp)
___________________________
Niza will probably want a Remove Curse cast on her to take care of that as well. It costs 1 PP for a basic cast. This would be at Caster Level 5 though and the spell gives you a basic Caster Level check vs. the DC of the Curse (which was 16). So you'd have a slightly less than 50% chance to remove it per PP spent. You have the option of paying for a guaranteed removal, which would cost 450g to get a lvl 15 cleric to cast the spell on you.
___________________________
Does anyone wish to volunteer to run the next scenario? I have two games pending in OUTPOST and don't really want to start another one right away, though I'll probably be free for the one after so we can return to the gloomspires!

![]() |

As much as I would like to run, I am teaching AND attending a Master's program at the moment. I can run a scenario over the summer, but life has me running at full capacity right now.
I am willing to kick in for part of the gold. I guess we need to see where LGZ is PP and gold wise.
How much are we making on this chronicle?

![]() |

When playing publicly recruited games, I typically leave it to the affected PC to resolve their own conditions, letting them ask for contributions if they needed it.
Since we're running as a group, it definitely makes more sense to spread the burden out; after all, it could be any of us next, haha. I think LGZ said he could afford it, though, so we should probably let him confirm. How we handle it this time could be precedent setting, though, so it pays to have a little discussion, either way.
______________________
I'm about to have two games in Outpost IV, and am likely picking up the GM duties for the Emerald Spire run that I was playing in (we lost our GM), so I'm not too keen on picking up the next session here.

![]() |

I'm in a better place than a a few weeks ago. Still fed up of everything being screen time at the minute but i can offer The Golden Serpent I mean I am sure LGZ and Dimple will want to scope out a fancy restaurant
Can Dimple assist our remove curse caster with a bit of luck?
Also willing to help LGZ with rez costs
(we should look at getting some remove curse and remove blindness scrolls as well)

GM TOP |

Those are excellent points Kasvot. I could easily see some really hurt feelings if the first person to die gets a ton of help and the second gets very little. Input from LGZ is probably ideal here before any decisions.
I would allow Bit of Luck to work with a purchased Remove Curse attempt. And I was doing the math too, you could just pay the gold for a regular remove curse and it is 150g. You could have 3x casts of that for the same cost as a guaranteed one. Probably smarter to go with that or the 1 PP attempt, especially with Bit of Luck involved. If there are any rolls for things needed I'd say just have the player who needs the thing fixed make them.
The chronicle gives ~2500 gp and you all got 2 PP as well.
____________________
I don't really want to push you too much Arboreal. If you are still having stresses, then I don't want to add one on top. We could always go out and see if a guest GM can take a turn too. Or delay a little bit until things calm down for one of us.

GM TOP |

I'll go ahead and at least throw out a line to see if anyone happens to be interested in a guest gm spot. I think if we can't get anyone, we should just go on a short hiatus and re-check our own GM status in about a month. I'm hoping to at least be more available by then.

![]() |

Two thumbs TOP!

GM TOP |

I've played it on standard only, so my wife and I would be fine to join. We might not get all of us in there at the same time though, there aren't many Core Scenarios listed. But I think it's probably our best bet to get a game in soon.
In other news, finally heard back from LGZ. He's in the middle of a major home renovation but should be able to log in tonight to post. Hopefully we can resolve his resurrection so I can finalize notes on your chronicles.

Well, tossing the possible moral/ethical issues to the side (re: saving spots in line for people), mechanically it would not work.
Outpost this year requires you to sign up AND dot into gameplay on your character at the same time.
But still, I'm pretty sure that we could all get in. We aren't trying to bum rush a special slot or anything. As long as everyone logs in on the day it opens up, I bet we all make it into the game.
I'll vote to shoot for joining Aerendor's Core Game in Outpost.

![]() |

Sign ups start on the 29th?
I am good with that scenario. I have never played it.

Argh I have played among the living in core please don’t let that stop you signing up I really don’t want to use up another star replay
