Alchemist's Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Confident Patros and the burning alchemist's fire will finish off the golem, Aiden goes in search of the unseen spellcaster. He moves around the pillar and takes out the second tanglefoot bag he got from the storage room. He hurls it into the space the fire erupted from.

GM: we both forgot something important: first, I should have rolled for total concealment (50% missing chance) agaisnt our invisible foe 51+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 62 ; which luckily seems to hit, then using a spell (Snowball) stops invisibility: The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. (Unless the foe uses Greater Invisibility spell)
| GM Watery Soup |
1. I've been rolling concealment for you, and I prefer to roll the concealment - this blinds the player as to whether the character is attacking the wrong square, or whether concealment applied. Last round, you attacked the correct square, and I rolled >51 on the concealment check. If you rolled the concealment check and it was >51, but still missed, you would know for sure you had the wrong square.
2. The target does, in fact, have greater invisibility.

How big is the picture that we're in here to get? Is it big enough for one of us to just take off of the wall without any major trouble?
| GM Watery Soup |
Interesting. The scenario only says that it weighs 10 pounds, but is awkward to carry. It clearly didn't anticipate people trying to abscond with it during combat. I'm going to say it takes both hands to hold (i.e., you can't hold it and a weapon). I'll also say it would also take a full round action to remove it from the wall.
Also, if the plan is to dine and dash, someone will have to use a standard action to pick up the neme from the ground. I've put a marker for where the neme was dropped on the ground when Hats disappeared, since it's worth tracking now.

I've still got a lot of friends and I've got a whole arsensal of leverage. Like it or not, they're not going to lock up someone who's good enough to steal the Nemes of the Cerulean Pharoah right out of the museum. I'm too valuable."
With each of the objects retrieved, the Pathfinders return to Absalom and the Blakros Museum by travelling to the Glare—the light at the center of Shadow Absalom that returns extraplanar visitors to their location immediately prior to entering the Shadow Plane. Once the Pathfinders return to the museum, they find Hamaria Blakros eager to take the items back and hear their story.

After returning to the Blakros Museum, Aiden adds to Patros' report. "Madam, while the Society is grateful for our historical relationship, there will be some who view this now as an internal Blackros family affair. I will make my report to the Paracountess, but the Onyx Alliance now seems to have a reasonable and competent leader in Sarina. It is possible this could be a fruitful relationship."

"What happened to Hats?"
Chalos is surprised by the question.
"Hats? I thought Hats was with you ... I was going to ask you where he went! I just saw the flash, like you did. He somehow activated the nemes - but they were left behind, so I guess it was some kind of freak magical accident."
Hats gets his own sidebar in the scenario writeup, which ends with, "Exactly where the freak magical accident takes Hats and the otyugh’s ultimate fate are subjects beyond the scope of this adventure."
We ran into a relative of yours. Does the name Sarnia kring a bell? Well, she's the one in charge of the Onyx Alliance now.
The Blakros matriarch is stunned by the news that some of the sacrificed daughters may still be alive, let alone the implications of Sarnia’s newly kayal-like appearance. For now, Hamaria asks that the Pathfinders keep this information to themselves and their leaders in the Society.
She leans in and whispers so that her voice does not carry too far into the Blakros Museum.
"So ... were Nigel's mistakes honest mistakes?"
If you don't want to make a writeup, at least post "yes" or "no".
I think the Society would value the association with the Blakros'...but if the Alliance tries to make a move...well, that is above my rank...
"Madam, while the Society is grateful for our historical relationship, there will be some who view this now as an internal Blackros family affair."
You can be coy with Hamaria, but I'm going to need a yes or no answer from you. I have to check one box or the other for reporting. :)
Drusilla the Spear-Maiden
|
I think so. He didn't meant harm. But how many honest mistakes must we endure and try to correct? How many times Pathfinder agents should go to Blakros museum to risk their life for one of Nigel's mistake? This place was my first mission, about magical artefacts of Mwangi which put a curse on the Museum. Maybe he should resign, and find another place where his decisions won't endanger anyone. Maybe you want to give him one last chance, and his next mistake, honest or not, will be his last. It's your decision. Cause it's your family, Lady Blackros...
Patros Therinor
|
Well, I think there is no sense wasting away the partnership between the Society and the Blakros'. That and my brother Mykel is absolutely smitten by you. But don't tell him i said that...he's beat the heck out of me... Patros says with a smile.
And as for Nidel...I think he's fine where he is. He might be a little complacent from time to time, but I believe he is innocent in the disappearances of the items.
Djorn
|
"I don't think Nigel is to blame for what happened or that there was even malicious intent on his part. I think he doesn't like the Pathfinder Society, though, so anytime he has an excuse to blame us for anything, he takes it. You probably need your own investigators for situations like this rather than depending on us to do it or on Nigel to do more than curate the museum."
He grins wolfishly. "And you have a hard task ahead. Your cousin? Aunt? Whatever she is blames the family that stayed behind for sending her over. I don't think you actually sent anyone over but I don't know if she's going to consider that a good first step or an insult to the suffering she feels like she's had."
I think they were honest mistakes.
Aiden Richter
|
Aiden taps his lips as he considers this final assessment. "Nigel is not at fault for the theft of the items. However, that is not the same as not being responsible for their fates. He is the curator, and care for the items falls to him. Where he is unable to perform the required tasks, he should request or hire assistance. That is where his incompetence lies. He fails to have the foresight, imagination, or ability to secure them properly. These are valued and dangerous items. Blakros has smart and capable rivals. He fails to realize these truths. I recommend finding someone more suited to this task. I'm sure the Paracountess would help you find such a party if you wish." He bows his head at Lady Hamaria.
