And we are off!
Once again you are at the Lorespire Complex on Absalom station.
Venture-Captain Naiaj, a bleachling gnome in humming armor, stands amid a cloud of holographic supply manifests. The area tints her platinum hair and pale skin a bluish hue. She addresses the assembled team in a professional tone.
“Greetings. This is an urgent matter, so I’ll be quick. As you may have read on the infosphere, there’s an outbreak on Zeyther-3, a frozen mining backwater in the Vast. About half of the planet’s population is currently quarantined with something called ‘gutmelt’ inside Glimmershield, Zeyther-3’s only major settlement.
“Glimmershield’s elected leader, Firstsight Taksta, sent out urgent requests to the Pact Worlds for antiemetics, fluid supplements, and other medicinals.” Naiaj gestures to a holographic spreadsheet. “Our colleague Fitch, of the Wayfinders, has recently worked with the izalguuns, who have provided the Society with a surplus of medical supplies. We’ve also developed a relationship with the talented Doctor Monsylkis, who’s already on the ground and working with the Firstsight to develop a cure.” Naiaj lifts herself in one surprisingly fluid movement to perch on the edge of a receiving table. “Since we have all the resources required to help in this crisis, we’re duty-bound to act,” she declares.
“As volunteers, you will board the freighter Tale of Sustenance and ensure its cargo of medicines reaches Glimmershield. When you arrive, check in with the Firstsight and assist her however you can. Then, rendezvous with the good doctor and find out what resources she needs to help her patients.”
“All right: questions? Look sharp.” Naiaj cocks her head expectantly.

![]() |

Chikasa nods along as Naiaj gives her briefing, then raises one thin digit of his wrinkled left hand, "Yes, ma'am, I got a question fer ya. You mentioned Zeyther-3 is frozen. Should we expect to need extra environmental protections against the cold, or is the settlement warded against the elements? My old bones sometimes act up when it gets too cold out ya see..."
Chikasa simultaneously begins running through all that he knows of Zeyther-3.

“Hello again, venture-captain Naiaj. This seems simple enough, just a big delivery of goods to customers. Though back in my corporation days, in similar circumstances, we would more than not be targeted by criminals, scavengers, competitors - sometimes working together, sometimes all on the same day! Is there reason to expect similar… resistance, to our charitable work? And after the delivery, should we stay and help the talented Doctor Monsylkis to find a cure?”
DuQuesne is an older halfling, with a gentle smile and calm demeanor, wearing casual clothing.

![]() |

Nomoline nods at DuQuesne's question. Indeed, I suspect the Abadarians would prefer to sell the medicines at a profit rather than give them where needed. Doesn't make much difference to me, everyone winds up in the Boneyard eventually to be seen by the Lady, but we wouldn't want anything to jeapordize the societies reputation in this.
Nomoline is a gruff female dwarf, wearing heavy armor with a holy symbol of Pharasma emblazoned on her chest. She carries a sword on her back and a coil of vine at her hip.
Life science or Medicine to know about the disease? Medicine: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 +8 instead if Life Science

A perky dwarf in heavy armor asks "A frozen world? This would be my second one. That is so exciting. What do you know about this illness, gutmelt? Will the Society be providing protections for the team heading down to the planet?
May I roll a life science to see if I am aware of this disease, using Sensate's Theme Knowledge?

![]() |

"What can you tell us about Dr. Monsylkis?" asks Cavaler. The ambassador from the elf nation of Sovyrian on Castrovel to Absalom Station and current senator representing the station's third district is dressed in a charcoal grey suit with a navy blue knotted silk tie and matching navy blue pocket square.

![]() |

"Zeyther-3 has been a mining colony in some form for while. Normal suit environmental protections seem to work well enough. Though if you get caught out in a storm that could be different issue. I would suggest staying with in the confines of the Glimmershield."
“It’s a ball of ice out in the Vast loaded with rare minerals useful for building starship bulkheads. Only a few researchers and miners bother with the place. Most live inside a domed city, Glimmershield, which provides protection from the Coil.”
“Dr. Monsulkis? She’s a brilliant verthani doctor who got mixed up in some bad business on Izalraan awhile back. Thankfully, she’s redirected her considerable expertise towards philanthropic efforts, and we’re fortunate to count her among the Society’s new allies.”
Any character that played 1-13: On the Trail of History with this character will also recognize her
“As for the disease? Don’t worry—none of the gutmelt cases have turned fatal. It’s a virulent and unpleasant stomach virus that seems to be unique to Zeyther-3. How it spread into Glimmershield, I don’t know, but Dr. Monsylkis is focused on finding a cure or vaccine.”
At this point Nomoline doesn't know any more about gutmelt as it is local to the planet most of the information on it is still being discovered by Dr. Monsylkis.
"This may be a supply run, but I am sending you since I suspect Firstsight Taksta can use some help since many of her staff is currently down with the disease."
"I don't have more that I can tell you at this time. Go and get your supplies and make your way to Tale of Sustenance. It leaves in two hours"

![]() |

"Wait, I get to see the good Doctor again? I can share with her all my new recipes. She will be so excited."
Tordenskjold then turns to everyone and says "Apologies. I haven't introduced myself or my team. My name is Tordenskjold. He then points at his wrist and says "This is Zwerg in der Flasche. I call him Zwergin. Say hi Zwergin" at which a small black orb appears, with a single eye and one mouth, which waves.
It's an AI, that looks like the creature from Full Metal Alchemist
He then points at a flap on his side and says "This is Gotfried. Say hello Gotfried."
Gotfried is a Personal Upgrade Symbiote
"Oh, as a side note, I am your shipboard chef for this journey. Please let me know if you have any food allergies and I will do my best to compensate."

![]() |

"We are going, we are going... by the way, VC, what is this Coil you mentioned?"

![]() |

A female shirren was standing next to the others. She’s wearing some light armor and weaponry, and has a white medical coat on top of the rest. She was listening to the briefing with attention. She tries to stay in the middle of the group and presents herself briefly before the team departs, saying telepathically “Pleased to meet everyone, I am Doctor Kliktikiti.”

![]() |

"My tastes lean more toward highly refined elven cuisine." Cavaler says a bit snootily.

![]() |

Naiaj smirks to DuQuesne as you are leaving: “A local nickname for the planet’s unpredictable electromagnetic fluctuations. I’m told it’s gorgeous to behold, but problematic for technology. The planet’s magnetism degrades technological equipment, hence the need for protective barriers. Occasionally, the electromagnetic energy spikes into a Coilstorm. From what I understand, it’s a cross between a blizzard and a powerful magnetic field going haywire. You don’t want to get caught outside in that.”
"Now. Good hunting"
The Starfinder Society has chartered the colorful freighter Tale of Sustenance to ferry the party and their precious shipment to the Vast. The ship’s captain, Echiba (LN female witchwyrd), delights in wordplay and challenges anyone interested to a friendly game each day.
Near the final days of their journey through the Drift, the Tale of Sustenance comes across a strange phenomenon. Captain Echiba reports that several common Drift Beacons along their path have seemingly “gone dark,” and their disappearance means that the ship needs an extra few days of travel to reach Zeyther-3. Echiba alerts you to this, but also promises to send a message to the Church of Triune to investigate the sudden “blackout”.
As the Tale of Sustenance exists the Drift and enters Zeyther-3’s atmosphere, it approaches the planet’s equatorial band. This section of the world is a stark landscape of icy plateaus and deep rocky depressions that quickly fill the ship’s viewports. The settlement known as Glimmershield clings to the north side of an immense mesa, its gleaming dome of coppery metal looming over modular structures clustered against its leeward side. Vehicular tracks crisscross the snowy ground between the buildings. As the freighter descends to the surface, a smaller dome splits open and retracts to reveal a landing pad. Once the ship lands safely within, the dome immediately closes around it.
Glimmershield’s chief administrator, Firstsight Taksta (a female espraksa), greets you at the landing pad outside the settlement’s main dome. Taksta is welcoming and professional but clearly scattered; she continually checks a datapad fastened to her right arm during her conversation with you, and forgets to introduce herself entirely.
“Welcome to Glimmershield, warmest spot on the planet! You’re here just in time, as the situation’s deteriorating downstairs, where my people are quarantined.” Farsight Taksta clacks her beak softly in sympathy. “Thank you for the supplies, they’re absolutely what we need and I’m sure Dr. Monsylkis will be relieved to get them. But unfortunately, and if it’s not too much trouble, the outbreak is only one of our problems right now.”
Taksta clicks her talons together as she lists issues. “First, we’re operating on low power. Our shielding and climate control systems are still online, but with critical energy reserves, I don’t know how long we can keep them running.” She gestures vaguely outwards. “Off-site Coil condensers provide most of our energy, but the last storm knocked them out. It’s usually a quick fix, but with so many Shielders sick, we’re running ragged. Once we get those generators online, things will be much easier.”
“Second, our healthy residents are at their breaking points. They’ve been confined to the upper dome for weeks and are getting bored and irritable. My head of maintenance, Ankreeng, is fomenting unrest, claiming the incoming shipment isn’t enough and that I’m not managing our resources appropriately. He bears a grudge towards me, though I’m not sure why, and I think my presence will only exacerbate the problem. I’m worried his faction might take action soon.” Taksta sighs wearily.
“To make matters worse, the doctor sent me a comm this morning. The gutmelt cases are getting worse—some of her patients are unresponsive now. She’s afraid they might die without the proper medical intervention. Your supplies are a good start, but that’s not a long-term solution.”
Taksta flexes her facial feathers in the approximation of a weary smile. “Simple supply run, eh? You tackle the generators and the rabble-rousers. I’ll get these supplies squared away and make sure the rest of this bubble doesn’t fall apart.”

![]() |

Chikasa nods solemnly as Taksta lists off Glimmershield's woes. "Well alright, Madam Firstsight, we'll be more 'n happy to help ya out around here. Tell me, though, you think we could leave off dealin' with Ankreeng and his lot until after we've dealt with these other issues? I get a feelin' that havin' the settlement's issues resolved or at least on their way to a resolution'd help make our case that yer doin' yer job best as ya can."
Turning to the other Starfinders, Chikasa offers his skillful paws in addressing the issues with the Coil condensers. "Whether it's an engineering job or something requirin' a bit of a magic touch, I can handle it. O'course, that don't mean I won't take all the help y'all can give as well. Jus' wanna let ya know where I think I'll be helpful."
Mission summary (my recommended order of completion):
Fix Coil condensers (2nd)
Deal with Ankreeng and help soothe unrest (3rd)
Further medical assistance needed for those with worse off gutmelt (1st)

![]() |

“Hello, Firstsight, it’s our pleasure to be able to help in any way possible - we are intergalactic handymen, after all!” DuQuesne shakes the espraksa’s paw/wing/hand. “I’m not very good with machines - actually sometimes I can hardly tell the front from the back of those electronic gizmos - but keeping the Coil from frying our brains seems to be an utmost priority! We’ll get to it at once! And don’t worry about the mutiny either - I’m used to negotiating with unions, and we are carrying big weapons!” DuQuesne laughs as he taps his pulse rifle.
She doesn’t want us to deal with the sick (yet) “You tackle the generators and the rabble-rousers”

She doesn’t want us to deal with the sick (yet) “You tackle the generators and the rabble-rousers”
Ah! Fair point! Right then, generators, then Ankreeg, then gutmelt it is!

![]() |

Happy to assist with the generators as needed, as I expect Chik-Chik will be better at it than I. Nomoline shakes her head. This is what you get for trusting too much to technology. Wind up on a planet with an atmosphere that wreaks havok on everything. Luckily I'm well equipped with analog gear. A quick perusal of Nomoline's person will reveal that the only thing she is wearing that uses power is her armor.

![]() |

"Maybe I could whip up a delicious meal for Ankreeg. A good meal works wonders when dealing with isolation. I might also be able to give a hand when dealing with the sick. Part of being a chef overlaps with being a medic."
100% deal with those gennys first, then when the *%&# hits the fan after that, we can proceed from there.

![]() |

Now dressed in an elegant suit of freebooter armor with a slim laser rifle of elven design strapped across his back, Cavaler introduces himself to Taksta. "Pleased to meet you Firstsight Taksta, I am Cavaler Traleth ambassador from the elf nation of Sovyrian to Absalom Station. I think I can help you settle your disagreement with your head of maintenance Ankreeg."
I'm fine with whatever order we decide to go in.

![]() |

Worried about the Ankreeng and his allies taking drastic measures, the shirren indicates telepathically, as usual, “You may want to protect those supplies if you think Ankreeng will cause unrest, he might want to grab them for him or his supporters.”
To Tordenskjold, she mentions jokingly “I hope you don’t slice your patients too often.”
To the rest of the team, she indicates that “I got basic training in engineering, I might be able to help.”, and does not even mention her medical knowledge as her outfit and title will make it obvious.

Generator first:
Traveling to the Generator takes about a half hour of walking. It is just over a mile east of the settlement. The generator is comprised of two devices: a condenser and a distributor. The condenser siphons Coil energy out of the air, which underground conduits then carry to the distributor. The distributor converts this Coil energy into conventional power for Glimmershield.
Distributor
Shallow snowdrifts blanket this rocky meadow like gentle dunes. A cluster of five squat, jagged spires of frozen rock rise to the east, each with a large, oblong machine of grey polymer clinging to the side. Delicate conduits weave between the spires and their associated machinery before disappearing into the ground. The damaged conduits sporadically emit showers of rainbow-hued sparks that glitter, reflected, in the thick slab of ice that surrounds the generator. The field abruptly ends in a slab of thick ice. Beyond, the mesa looms, disappearing into the lightly falling snow.
You will need to use a Computers or Engineering to fix the Distributor, then climb the 20 foot ice wall to get to the condenser
Also FYI, APL is 4.67 so this will be a 5-6 tier game

![]() |

While the rest of the group works on the machinery, DuQuesne gets out his ion tape, cuts out a 22 feet long strip, and uses the remaining tape to put handles on intervals on each side of the main strip, and some footing on the base of it - then he zaps it with his zipstick, creating a ladder capable of supporting 300 pounds. “One at a time, please!”
He leaves it nearby, picks out his pulse rifle staccato, extends the bipod and uses it as a forward grip, keeping watch over the group.

A cold wind whips around Cavaler as he climbs up DuQuesne's ladder and opens an access panel to the condensor's computer controls. He brings down the faceplate on his armor's helmet to shield his eyes and nose from the biting cold.
"I'll let our resident computer expert take the lead, but I can assist if need be." he says over the team's tactical comm channel.
Computers Aid Another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
He then unslings his laser rifle from his back and holds it in one hand and with his other hand he removes a cover seed from his utility belt.
He signals back to the rest of the team, "All clear here."

Realizing how important it is for these repairs to go well, Chikasa calls up the rookie Starfinder agent he brought along with him to assist him with repairing the distributor before heading up the ingenious ladder DuQuesne constructed.
