Azu Azan |
Azu can only hope that Bina is alright as he is starting to get annoyed with these ornery goats.
"I suppose you three are determined to end up in our stew!"
Azu moves around the goats, designates one of the goats (blue) as his prey, and executes a well-practiced maneuver.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Awesome.
Bina reaches out and grasps the ledge with lightning reflexes, but her stomach drops as she feels the sod and loose rock crumble under her fingers and she plummets to the bottom of the cliff.
If I recall correctly, the damage is half the fall distance, which means Bina is unconscious and at Dying 1.

"Bina!!
Okay, now I see the issue with the last heal spell. That's what I get for forgetting to look at the map earlier. I am pretty sure she can get to Bina this time, though. My goal is to get to Bina as quickly as possible and to cast a two action heal if possible. I do not know if Kya can see Bina from where Kya is or not. If not she will drop down from the cliff and go to her - or get close enough to heal at a distance. I couldn't find where intentionally letting go was listed in terms of how many actions it takes (1 or free).
Heal, assuming she can get close enough: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Athmar |
Athmar watches in horror as Bina falls off the cliff. Save the shortshanks? Call dibs on her boots? Save the rest from the goats? Athmar not know... oh, the other short shanks is going to help...
Athmar continues to climb upward.

Muzzo continued pulling his way up the rope, knowing that his friends were in danger up above and he wasn't able to help. What if they were being tossed about by an ogre? Or a were-chicken? And then Bina came plummeting past him. He started to reach out for he, nearly lost his grip on the rope, and kept climbing.
"Kya can help Bina! Muzzo help up top! Bad were-chickens to throw Bina off cliff!"

GM Tyranius |
@Azu- Ako would have to make his own checks to get up.
@Mandower- You have 3 actions and have only used 2.
Bina falls into the underbrush below, softening her fall as she gets several scraps and nicks from the impach into the bushes. You only take 7 fall damage as the underbrush treats this fall as 10 feet shorter. This left you at 2 hp so no dying.
Athmar manages to make it up to the top of the cliff as he rolls over the topside. Kya looks over to where Bina fell as she hangs onto the rope. Reaching a hand out and tends to her wounds.
Azu uses his blade to execute another powerful maneuver, killing a second mountain goat. Mandower makes it to the top of the cliff face as well as he stands next to Athmar.
Muzzo makes it up in a single last heave of his muscles. You made it to the top of the cliff in a single climb action. You have two actions remaining.

Bina Sevencloaks |
Despite the sudden burst of healing, Bina briefly considers pretending to be dead so the others go on without her. She's pretty sure she's going to die of embarrassment anyway.
GM Tyranius |
@Azu- As we are in combat you would have to spend an action to command your animal companion.
Muzzo and Mandower move into position as the mountain goats flee Azu's blade.

With a huff, Bina stands up and moves over to the rope, hesitating for a moment. You really wanna climb back up there? Those goats have murder on the brain. You could have died!
Of course she's going back up. Why is she even debating it? She has to admit, even as horrifically embarrassing as that was, and even though she came close to being killed, this is the most fun she's had in a while.
She flashes a smile at Kya from below. "Thanks for the heal," she says cheerfully as she starts to clamber up the rope.

Kya grins back at Bina. "You are so welcome! Here's a little extra help!
As Bina comes within range, Kya reaches out and touches Bina's sword-cane, casting Magic Weapon. She then casts Guidance on Bina as well. She mumbles, "If I can't get up the cliff, I guess I can wait for you all to come to me!"
Athmar |
"Time for roasted goat! Boil'em, mash'em, stick them in a stew!"
Chants Athmar gleefully as he unleashes a vial that reeks of kerosene and peaches.

Steady Balance Feat:
You can keep your balance easily, even in adverse conditions. Whenever you roll a success using the Balance action, you get a critical success instead. You’re not flat-footed while attempting to Balance on narrow surfaces and uneven ground. Thanks to your incredible balance, you can attempt an Acrobatics check instead of a Reflex save to Grab an Edge.
reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 My acrobatics is the same.
Hero Point reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Was this a reaction? Not one of the three actions on my turn right? and Crit success means I'm still on the edge and not dangling? Just gotta make sure where I stand in terms actions and position.
Muzzo Sharptooth |
Muzzo fended off the attacks from the goats, biting repeatedly as the one attacked. But horns were hard, and difficult to get past as he bit down on the goat's head.

GM Tyranius |
Bina rolls out of the bush, getting to her feet as she rushes back around the cliff-face to begin climbing the rope. Athmar burns the fur off of the mountain goat's side as he tosses a vial of chemicals into it.
Muzzo grabs ahold of the goat's throat, viciously ripping through it with his teeth as he kills the goat in a single bite. Kya imbues Binas weapon with a small bit of magic.
Azu's blade quickly finish off the last goat as Mandower finds himself hanging from the edge of the cliff. You are hanging there and need a DC 15 Acrobatics to pull yourself back to the surface. That check you did just now was a reaction to avoid falling to the ground.
Out of Combat.
With the goats removed, you finally have the chance to get a good look around of the area surrounding the cliff. After catching a breather, of course and fashioning some ropes to get the rest of you to the surface.
Another opportunity to earn more Discovery Points! Like before, this is determined by the group success and failure. Just be clear which checks you are attempting.
Learn how to handle the goats, turning a hazard into a resource. Nature check.
From the cliff, you can get a good view of the surrounding area. Committing it to paper would make travel easier for subsequent travelers. Cartography, Scribing Lore, or Crafting.

Kya gratefully accepts the help up the cliff. Well. I was pretty useless during that fight. Not a good start. At least I can be helpful now!
"Azu, please let Shelyn bless you! Anyone else need healing?" She looks around at the rest of the party.

Muzzo Sharptooth |
Muzzo licked the blood from his lips as his face returned to normal. He shook all over from the fatigue that always set in after one of his transformations. Absently, he gnawed a haunch off the goat and sat there eating it, waiting for his normal strength to return. Finally, he stood and looked around. "This pretty place. Maybe good for stop on road? Athmar |
Athmar pokes the remains of the cooked goat, looking for tasty bits to snack on as the group settles in. Using his crude knife, he slices off a few singed jerky like strips and offers them to the party as he settles in to start sketching the area is his notes.
GM Tyranius |
Mandower and Azu track down the rest of the herd and are able to calm them down enough to shift away from the path. This will allow them to be hunted as groups pass through. Crit Success Mandower and Athmar then begin to chart the surrounding area using the cliff as a good vantage point. Success. Azu is able to mark off good handholds and climbing spots to get up the cliff without much chance of falling. Crit Success And if they do fall Azu has identified good medicinal plants to make salves out of. Crit Success. Athmar finds a meltwater point and marks it on the map to steer well clear of the area. Crit Success The cliff overhang akes for a great campsite as Muzzo prepares it in the shade. Crit Success Bina gives Muzzo a hand as they set up some rocks to create a bit of shelter within. Success
********
The next few days, however, do not go so way. Snow starts falling in the middle of the night and these carries on non-stop, turning into a snowstorm occasionally. The winter clothing protect you from the worse of the weather, but it is still miserable. What's worse, the drop in visibility and heavy snow cover makes it difficult to chart a proper path through the mountains. Repeated frustrating backtracks due to dead-ends saps away at the party morale.
Eventually though, the weather breaks on the fourth day, just as the valley opens up, flattening out at first, then deepening, forming a large bowl. The terrain becomes more marshy, with trees and shrubs stunted by the damp. Animal musk hangs in the air.
Before you progress far along the trail, a group of four wolves moves out from the marshes onto the junction ahead. One particularly striking one with white fur steps forward, and it speaks with a rough rumbling voice!
"My, my, adventurers. Here in the middle of nowhere! What could you possibly be looking for here?" You notice that he seems to be looking at Kya with great interest.
Bina Sevencloaks |
Bina seems particularly miserable in the cold, being from a jungle city, but does her best to put on a brave face. Her nights are spent vigorously rubbing feeling back into her toes and humming quietly to herself slightly off-key.
It sounds suspiciously like "Genghis Khan" by Miike Snow. XD
* * *
When the wolves approach, Bina also tries to suss out what the wolf wants. What would a talking wolf want, anyway? Biscuits? Do wolves eat biscuits? Jeepers, she's bad at this.
Also Sense Motive. I wonder if there's a penalty for it not being humanoid?
GM Tyranius |
Azu: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Bina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
"That all sounds very intriguing. You would be hard pressed to find an intelligent creature around here that could give better guidance! I am very willing to offer my services, kind sir. I am Odvar!" With that the wolf gives a deep bow.
"But there is the matter of the toll. I know you humanoids love exchanging pieces of metal, but as you can see, that is of no value to us whatsoever. Hmm, what could you possibly pay us with? My, my..." He appears to ponder a bit.
"Ah, I know. Just a trifling. Say one halfling for each caravan? A plump one of course. Otherwise, what's the point? Hmm, well I guess, I would settle for a gnome instead. They are not quite as juicy though. Don't you think?" Odvar returns to staring at Kya.
Azu gets a good feel for the intelligent wolf. He has made a good living for himself recently, even attracting some wolf underlings. But if he can get an even more lazy life with some bullying or negotiating, he doesn’t pass up that opportunity for an easy meal.
Muzzo Sharptooth |
"Halfling? Gnome? Why wolf want eat smalluns? Longshanks have better meat. Give Muzzo a good longshanks leg any day. Halfling too stringy! But, not all caravans want eat people. Maybe goat? We find nice goat herd a few days back. Wolf want two goats for safe passage? Two goats fair price for guide and passage, and longshanks no get squeamish about feeding you people."
Edit:What is this, Catan? Two goats for wood! Any takers?
Kya Mossfoot |
"Well, I am very sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Wolf, but I will not be offering up myself - or my friends - for you and your companions to eat! What a thing to even ask!" Kya huffs indignantly. And casts Shield on herself and takes a few steps back.
Bina Sevencloaks |
Bina gives the wolf a deadpan stare. "You have got to be joking." She turns incredulously to the others. "We're not seriously negotiating with anything that eats people, right??"
When Kya casts her spell and steps back, Bina breathes a sigh of relief and draws her blade from its hidden sheath in her cane. "Whew! Good. You should probably run, pal. This ain't gonna end well for you."
Probably not going to do any good, since she's not trained in it, but worth a shot.

Sheesh. Why am I always dancing for animals? she thinks as she hustles up to one of the rear wolves. Then again, most of the people I danced for in Bloodcove were animals too.
She moves up to a wolf, stares it in the eyes, and her feet begin bouncing in place, before her legs go up in a wide, spinning scissor kick as she balances herself on the hand not holing her blade, then comes back down and does a half-pirouette to return to a position facing her foe. Even after the ostentatious maneuver, her feet never stop moving, dipping left to right and back and forth.

If Azu can designate the Odvar as his prey based on Sense Motive, he will do that and then Stride next to Bina.
GM Tyranius |
@Kya- Yes DC 17 would be correct for you at level 1. Spell DC = 10 + your spellcasting ability modifier + proficiency bonus. Also that ray of enfeeblement needs a ranged attack roll.
@Kya- You will need to move up some for Ray of Enfeeblement on Odvar (Yellow). He is more than 30 feet away. Do you wish to move up and cast Ray of Enfeeblement or hang back and shield?
Azu draws his blade as magical power begins to seep into the hilt. He points the end of it at Odvar, designating the intelligent wolf as his prey. Mandower rushes in with his warflail as the group moves to strike down the greedy wolves quickly. The nimble wolf leaps out of the way avoiding the ouchy end of the flail.
Bina dances around the green eyed mangy wolf as she draws its attention to her, completely fascinating it as the wolf seems very focused on her.
Athmar attempts to parlay, but it seems a bit late as he wraps his hand around an alchemist's fire. It is much too late as Muzzo leaps forward and tears the whole side out of one of the wolves killing it quickly.

Someday, Bina will get to contribute. Don't want to ruin the flank for Azu's AC, so I'll swing for a crit.
A3: Strike 3 vs Green: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 Piercing + Precision Dmg: 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
Apparently, I swung down instead of up. >_<
Bina immediately stops smirking and gulps audibly. Crap.
EDIT: I thought the animal companion was flanking. I would have stepped out of this flank had I known. Ah, well. The perils of PbP.
