The confident tones of Firstsight Taksta, the leader of Zeyther-3’s quarantined settlement saved by the Starfinders several months ago, interrupts the radio silence. “I’m eternally thankful for what you and the lovely Dr. Monsylkis did for Glimmershield. Your efforts stopped the spread, and as a result, our gutmelt casualties were few. Even as we mourn our fallen friends, we know how many more of us would have perished without treatment. You risked your own lives to help us when the corporations refused. We might just be a backwater mining outpost, but Zeyther-3 is on your side no matter what.”


A final transmission echoes through the bridge of the battlescarred starship. This time, a low voice punctuated by insectile clicks addresses the Starfinders. “This is emissary Jontane of the formians on Castrovel. Your actions at the Meeting of Queens left a lasting impression on my colony. I rarely leave the collective, but I decided to make the trip to Absalom Station to observe one of your traditions—the elevation of your newest First Seeker. I had hoped to reunite with you there, but I was informed you’re away on an important mission. Please remain efficient and safe until we meet again.”


Bright explosions bloom as drones disintegrate into scrap metal. But for each enemy craft that falls, two more take its place. The dozens of remaining craft dart and buzz through the fray like a nest of angry hornets kicked by a foolish intruder. Suddenly, Steadfast releases an electrical pulse, and all surrounding drones simultaneously power down. The defensive barrier disappears, offering a direct path to the orbital complex’s docking bay.

Striking Back is now Complete

A massive specialized EMP generated by the Stewards’ vessel Steadfast disrupts the remaining drones allowing you to enter Datch’s orbital hideout.
“Excellent work, Starfinders!” Luwazi Elsebo’s voice echoes through the comm units on each Starfinder ship simultaneously. “The Steadfast and the other Stewards will fall back and keep any remaining drones busy. Starfinders, you are authorized to use whatever means you deem necessary to neutralize the threat Datch presents to the Society and the Pact Worlds. Please act with consideration and be careful.”

Table GMs, end your current encounter.

Inside the landing dock, an elevator’s doors stand open in invitation. Pleasant music plays as the lift travels down into the bowels of the complex. The doors part and reveal the interior of the orbital complex, an upscale but otherwise mundane office building. A wide, well-lit hallway bisects this floor, and all doors stand open to allow easy passage.

An office comes into view at the end of the hall. Datch sits atop a desk and smiles. She tilts the shiny red apple she’s holding and speaks. “Welcome, and well played. I’d say I’m pleased to see you, and while I respect you, I most certainly am not pleased.” She sighs and takes a bite of her apple. “Your Society single-handedly ruined my plans. I worked so hard. You really have no idea. Ah well, such is the nature of the game. So, what’s your next move?”

Datch levels a piercing gaze at the intruders, but the polite smile never leaves her lips.

Datch takes another bite of her apple with a a loud crunch, and replies with surprising elocution considering her bulging cheek-pouch, "Oh yes, everyone always needs to be well paid in order to seize control of one the most powerful interstellar corporations in the known universe for Grandmother Rat's glory. Honestly Charlie, I thought you'd keep better company than this."

A cold, computerized voice booms overhead, "Initiating lockdown protocol. Self-destruct in sixty minutes."

Datch takes another juice bite, "Sorry Charlie, wish it hadn't been you they sent to take me in..."

The doors behind you lock shut and forcefields spring up over them -
Time to get out of here with as much intel as you can scrounge!

The room around you is an ordinary office decorated sparsely in a modern style. A semicircular desk positioned in front of a large screen
faces the double doors to the west. A worn brass statue of a rat perched on its hind legs adorns the northwestern corner. Offerings of fruit, crackers, and cakes are heaped at the base of the statue, and its outstretched paw seems to beckon for more...

You spot a pair of hidden doors to the northeast and northwest, but you don't see how to open them...

Charlie-X:
Datch's soft spot for you means that her web of traps won't target you quite as fiercely. You get a +2 bonus on all skill checks and saves vs. her traps and defenses, and can reroll one of them during this adventure

"Very," Datch pithily responds to both Quentin and Pamatea.

She stands back as Rally rushes towards the console on her desk with a fixed grin, eyeing Pamatea's gun, but doesn't make any hostile moves to try to stop the elf from gaining access.

You're able to find a number of interesting logs that would be useful evidence of Datch's misdeeds, as well as tantalizing references to some of her earlier personal history, but no deactivation mechanisms...

Stepping around the desk, the elvish girl nods awkwardly at Datch with an apologetic shrug and an anxious smile. "Um. Sorry about all this. It's my first mission, so, um... I don't have anything personal against you, really."

Eager for anything to distract from her awkwardness, Rally looks to Pamatea. "Have you got that figured out?"

Rally hesitates, her stomach growling loudly enough that she's pretty sure the whole room can hear. For a moment she eyes the apple; then the voice of her adoptive mother echoes through her mind, asking if she's really going to eat trash left by a rat. Rally flinches, already starting towards the south door and trying not to look at said apple or said rat.

Then an idea crosses her mind. "Hey, what if... what if we split up? Charlie and Quentin take one path, Pam and I take the other. It'll make sure we cover as much ground as possible." Rally fidgets slightly before turning to Datch. "Um... I hate to just leave you to die like this. I promise if you come with us and don't cause any more trouble along the way, I'll make sure you're treated fairly..." The elvish girl smiles uncertainly.

Rally is still very much a newbie to the adventuring life. And also a bit too soft-hearted for her own good, perhaps.

Datch cocks her head in curiosity at Rally's offer. "I had already assumed you were abducting me, but the offer of fairness is very believable. And soothing."

The northern corridor is well lit and of fairly standard construction, but unfortunately your earlier tinkering doesn't seem to have undone all the defenses. Two doors that branch off of the corridor seem to have had their forcefields disabled, but the one that would let you travel farther down the corridor is still active.

Perception or Survival DC 15:
The door to the outer part of the ring would lead straight into the vacuum of space! Probably best to leave that one closed!

Rally is pleased by the reaction, though she tries to keep her "professional Starfinder" face on. She lets the others take the lead, since they seem to have a better idea of how to handle these sorts of escapes. The elvish girl does pull out her rifle, though, ready for danger.

As the group enters the narrow corridor, Rally moves to investigate the various doors, looking for any sort of system she can override or hijack to gain entry.

Pamatea realizes that one set of doors would simply lead out into the vacuum of space! Per the spoilers With only one of the other doorways accessible, the path forward is clear.

The door slide open with a hiss revealing partial concrete walls that divide this large office into several cubicle workstations. A statue in the northwest corner is the room’s most prominent feature: a brass rat crouching defensively over piles of antiquated metal coins, paper currency, and credsticks. The statue extends an empty paw, as if requesting payment.

However, before you can search the room further, a dangerous looking nearby robot activates with a menacing whir!

Datch sits back, seemingly completely unconcerned with making a break for it for now. The robot is equally nonchalant as it backs away from Charlie's mighty swing, overloading the arc emitter mounted to its shoulder in a flare an ineffectual spurt of electricity!

Datch's carefully neutral expression creases into a look of somewhat embarrassed dismay. "Well then.

"I'm going to have to speak to Archdirector Milton about that. We really can't afford to have one of our flagship 'bots with such obvious performance issues..."

The problem with robots, Rally reflects with some embarrassment, is that they refuse to just sit there and let themselves be hacked. Looking over at Quentin and Pamatea, she quietly says, "Keep an eye on our guest, please." Then the elvish girl is off, darting into the room as quickly as she can given her heavy armor. As she skids to a halt, Rally levels her sniper rifle at the robot.

You're out of reach at the moment Charlie, I'll nudge you closer and take the first swing without the -4, but add a little damage from momentum since you would've been able to make a bigger move.

The hail of attacks crunches into the robot's armor, but despite the fearsome toll the Starfinders' weapons wreak, it still seems awfully functional... Not from DR, just from many hp

The shoulder-mounted cannon whines as it recharges, but rather than fire, the robot simply slams its mighty metal fists into Charlie, beating the ferran bloody!
