Thorn studies the beetle. He notes its movements, manner of attacks and speed as he crouches in order to get a better look.

Seeing that Aramyos is down from the creature's crushing mandibles, he makes a mental note to avoid those.

With Lilianne lunging in an attack, the fat man conjures up a tiny ball of acid and tosses it at the beetle.

Blaze steps further away from the Aasimar and the others, gathering power again as the fiery motes bloom in the air in a ring around her and rush in towards her with a flash, like an explosion in reverse. Again she calls forth her blade of Flame again infuses it with her Elemental Overflow and continue to press the creature with her searing attack.

As your attacks hit and connect with the scarab many holes reveal its end. The scarab drops before it can attack again. Though within moments the body is gone as if it was a summoned creature.

At the far end of the room you reside in you see a magical glow that seems to be turning on then off slowly. There are many large runes that cover the floor, walls, and even the ceiling. Some are as big as the whole room, some as small as a finger print, and many more in between.

Lilianne had already covered the fact she knows little about runes. Perhaps she could speak to her overseers sometime later and see if they could teach her something.

"No...and it vexes me. Do you think it was summoned then? From the runes? Since the platform back there magically consisted of a means of magical comfort to descend to this level, perhaps the mages used this room as a training grounds? Or an area to unleash spells? Thorn, I noticed you lobbed an acid spell before. Try launching on at the wall there."

She still watches down the hallway to make sure they aren't surprised or that the spider has come through the door.

"Aaargh, what a bite." Aramyros cries out, while standing up. In the same movement he holds his hands over the bite wound and casts another healing spell.

Lilianne will turn at hearing Aramyros's cry and will aid him to help him up.

"On your feet, tough guy. You are supposed to avoid the pinching biting part," she jokingly states.

She will note the feel of his skin, if it is like it looks, or if it is different to the touch. You never know with aasimars. As he heals himself, she calms a bit more and lets him stand on his own.

Thorn nods at Lilianne as he first studies the runes.

Once he has learnt all that he has learnt from the runes, he picks what he thinks is the safest Rune and fires a tiny orb of acid at it.

Surrounded by her flaming aura, Blaze moved carefully to avoid triggering any runes. "Much to study down here, yes. But even if a touch will summon with these runes, something else must have done the touching."

She scanned the area for further dangers.

Thorn:
Looking at the runes you think that they coalesce together to from three spells at the far side of the room. Likely three different summoning spells.

The acid eats away at the rune and wall but soon dissipates, seeing that the rune and wall are unaffected.

Blaze:
You can see the webs above and a bunch of spiders up in there. Perhaps a few as big as your hand but most of them are no bigger than a finger nail. It is not a swarm, or at least they are not swarming yet.
Also you see that there is three flickering lights, but the brightest of them is out shining the other two. They are flickering on and off together. Nothing of else really catches your interest.

There are two doors that could be closed to secure the room and another to secure the hallway.

"I don't know, you guys," she replies to Andrei and Blaze, "I heard the stomping a while ago. I don't think it was us. Either someone like Aukun came down here instead of up, someone is down here, this all activates automatically, or our spider friend is smart enough to activate it. I don't know. Maybe whoever was here before left this system on and we just fought what was left behind? No answers..." she grumbles as she moves out of the room.

She will wait for Blaze and everyone to make sure they are following, and then will move on. As she comes back into the room, she lingers in the tunnel for a moment to make sure the room is still clear.

If you stick to the Northern doors you come to the next door and it seems to have a mechanical lock to it. Disable Device DC 40.

The eastern doors are easy enough, as they have a button. With a quick simple orison from one person or another they come up and the doors open to a clean elevator room.

The other Southern door has a keyhole and it is locked. DD DC 20.

Lilianne is tired of worrying about the spider in the southern room. She will head to where she had seen it pop its ugly face out of. Being ready to swing, she approaches the doorway in case it pops out at her.

Blaze is still convinced something intelligent is acting against them and likely watching them somehow. Rather than burn away all the webbing and disturbing all the small spiders, she took some efforts to secure the room as they left it behind.

She gathered power in the big open dining room again, just in case the Spider was lurking nearby and moved to be ready to launch another fire blast if need be as Lili opened the door.


Southwest is the spider door, at least the door the spider was coming out of and hid after being struck my Blaze. You try opening the door and find it stuck. But then you hear a knock on it. Then a muffled voice...

"Please go away, I won't hurt you, just let me live with my children."

Blaze puts a hand on Lilianne's shoulder to halt her advance, "Hold a moment, I hear something." She moved to the doorway and listened closely. "It speaks." She tells the others with a surprised look before she replied in the buzzing tones of Abyssal.

Abyssal:
"I have no wish to harm your young. But I do not think you were sneaking up upon us to say hello. I am also protective of these ones with me as well. Most of your kind are mindless predators. How is it that you have come to know yourself?"


Abyssal:
"Well no, I haven't had fresh food in such a long time. The beetles only give so much blood before they dissappear. I won't try to hurt you anymore. I can spin a special... what did they call it... talisman that will protect you from my children. The masters, the wizards... they played with me as an eggling. They cast spells upon me. I dont know why. But then they put me in a jar and I slept. Then the jar was broken and I began to eat and grow. We can work with you, lead me and my family away, to the bright in the ceiling. We will help you. We will feed on animals and those you tell us too... please no more fire."

"This does sound reasonable" Aramyros summarizes the conversation without actually translating any.

"yeah, alright. We're not here to hurt anyone. We found this place and want to make sure it's save and nothing in here will hurt US. You understand?"


Abyssal:
"I will tell my children to not attack. I will crack open the door every hour with a new talisman. They only work for a day. Once you each have one we will come out slowly. The other room has not living things that move, not my children please squish them."

Aramyros turns around looking at the expecting faces of his party, realizing they want to know, what's going on.
"Please, nobody attack any spider. They won't either. And apparently there aren't any more living dangers down here. Now that I think about it, non-living was not ruled out. So be wary of traps, undead or more automations."

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Blaze could not stop the slow smile that spread over her face, remembering the creature's hasty retreat from her fiery assault earlier. She replied briefly again in Abyssal before turning to explain to the group.

Abyssal:
"Yes, no more fire. Do us no harm and I will not bring my flames to bear against you or your kin. For my part, you have my oath."

She turned back to the party with an amused look on her burn scarred face. "Aramyros was right. That spider is intelligent. And it wants to negotiate. For the safe passage of her children." She is near laughter as she slaps the shiny Aasimar on his shoulder companionably. "Mebbe they like to eat Goblin, eh?"

"The old masters changed her and imprisoned her here. Since she escape, she make this place her home. And it sounds like there are undead in that room over there." She indicated the room described.

After studying the runes, Thorn explains its intricacies to the rest.
"Fascinating arrangement we have here. It seems that the runes are arranged in pattern similar to that of an array. I judge that these runes likely coalesce together to from three spells at the far side of the room. Presumably three different summoning spells."

With the rest explaining the negotiations with the spider, Thorn sees no problems with allowing the spiders to be freed.
"Can they tell us more of the place since they were here for quite some time and of course any goblin they can find and eat is fair game for them. Letting them know of some boundaries like Alia's forbidden zone is good. Awakening sleeping dragons might be a little too much. Any other aid she can provide would be nice too." he adds the latter.

"Interesting..." she comments about the runes. "We'll have to include that in our report."

As they speak of the spider, she wonders what setting such beasts loose would do. If they were to be violent to them, why would they not be to those who seek to settle in the valley?

"You should advise your spider friends to play nicely with Ethos and whoever he is bringing in here. We may let it live, but if they go and populate and take over the area, I can guarantee there will be missions shortly after to go out and cut them down. I just know these superiors. They don't like things they can't control. Still...we are invading its home. We'd do best to just leave it here and seal off the place like it was when we found it."

While the group was examining the runes, Baahir puzzled over the possibilities as well.

"How much of this place operates without the owners, all these latent and waiting runes. The automaton. Whoever did or does live here are more advanced than I would have expected in this area. Thorn, we may need to discern what combinations are possible when we get a moment."

This room has shelves with tools and reagents for crafting and forging. Nothing very expensive maybe a few MC artisan sets. The most prominent aspect is the many forges that lie dormant in wait. Perception checks to find something more or special.
