Hesitantly, Rulean says “I suppose we could do that. The quasit that was running around has no doubt reported all it knows of us so there is no possibility of surprise. I don’t think we can really afford to bring you to safety immediately, but perhaps you could hide outside?”
He looks to the others and asks “What do the rest of you think?”

Song peers at the crate. Is there any sign that it was a prison for a human for a long time? "Balenni, the demon who took your face slaughtered an entire monastery with neither compunction nor mercy. Why would she keep you alive for even a single day?"
I would like a Sense Motive check as well, please.
GM Blake
"Oh, no! The monastery?" Balenni gasps and grabs hold of Rulean as tightly as her trembling hands can. "What about Nemmia? She's--she's a halfling? Is she alive?"

“No.”
Rulean thinks for a moment before expanding on his answer.
“It seems the demon who took your place was a very skilled manipulator. She convinced Nemmia that the town was at fault for the problems in the area and it had to be destroyed. She also manipulated several monks into performing demonic rituals.”
Song-of-Air
Song stares a moment at the clean insides of the cedar crate that had supposedly restrained an unbathed human for a period of time. Then she turns to Balenni. "Who are you? Really?" She points at the crate. "There's no stains, and no smell other than cedar."
GM Blake
A single tear runs down Balenni's cheek when Rulean answers. "Oh, no, no, no. That must be what the demon needed my--," she pauses and squints her eyes at the tengu when Song-of-Air interrupts. Rulean suddenly discovers that the supposedly dehydrated and malnourished scholar's grip on his arm is a great deal stronger than a human of her size ought to be able to produce.
The woman's features transform quickly into a black-haired and pale skinned human with a tattoo upon her brow. Her eyes shift from violet to a smoldering red. Horns erupt from behind her ears and wings erupt from her shoulders as her robe takes on a more form-fitting cut. "I told you. I am Balenni. There is only one Balenni. Now. Surrender and I will make you living slaves or else I will let Cavnakash sacrifice you to Zevgavizeb," she says with words so seductive that they make surrendering to become slaves seem like a reasonable option. She turns to Rulean and forces a kiss upon the iruxi. "Give in!"
Rulean finds his body weakening and his mind considering giving in to the succcubus' whims.

Slightly earlier
Leaf-On-Wind was a bit unnerved by the situation. Things weren't adding up and fast and the immediate concern that it was some sort of showmanship trick were quickly borne out.
"Well, at least you're not as dangerous as the worm-heads or the beak-breakers. You were living in a crate like some sort of rodent. Also, your head-ink looks crooked."
Having gotten that little bit off his chest, the acrobat-medic-archer focuses a bit and lets fly.
"At least you're not a mimic. That would have been a 'sticky' situation. And probably classier, too."
Seeing that Rulean is in pretty rough shape, Leaf-On-Wind moves over to provide immediate medical assistance before slapping some bandages on Clover.

Stymied by Balenni's grip on his arm and his will, Rulean tries to fend off the demon with his cold iron pick, which he is fairly certain is especially harmful to demons. However, he cannot calm his mind enough to remember anything specific to succubus.
Nabi advances into the room with a terribly worded pun. The demon is not likely to fall for such a simple trick, but the acrobat is able to cut the demon with her blade.
Ephraim burns the demon with modest effect. "Ai!" she shrieks and hisses at the half-orc.
As Leaf-on-Wind moves in to treat his companion's wounds, he begins to think that maybe Balenni's tattoo isn't so crooked. The asymmetry is even a little endearing. Brushing aside the thoughts, he gets to work with the assistance of his magical gloves.
Clover-bot focuses upon the succubus as her chosen prey. She thrusts the fighter's fork at Balenni, but the demon bats it off course with her tail. "Snowy! Get in there!"
Snowball-bot charges forward and snaps at Balenni's heels ineffectively.
The succubus forces Rulean into another kiss before letting him go. The iruxi's skin begins to hang loose from his limbs, and his scales become duller. At the same time, the cuts on Balenni's body completely heal.
"Sweetheart," she says, looking into Clover's eyes, "Be a dear and kill that wizard who burned me?"

Why should we trust you? We've seen how people who made a deal with you ended, bringing more corruption, pain and murder in our world than it should be humanly possible, and the gods know how much humans can hurt each other all by themselves! Mr. Splinters hungrily eyes the treasure, waiting to discover what it is!
GM Blake
Leaf-on-Wind begins to tend Clover's wounds while the rest of you search the two rooms. Balenni has collected quite a few luxurious items. Her bed bears six silk pillows filled with something far superior to feathers or seed. Within and on top of crates are several pieces of elegant clothing. Inside of one of the crates is a case. Within that case are four matching fine crystal vials each containing colorless liquid. Opening the stoppers, you detect three distinct scents: two vials contain a pungent alcohol scent, one contains a gentle floral scent, and the last contains an earthy, herbal scent. You find a figurine of a flying fish crafted from gold in another crate.
Hanging over the four posted bed is a ceramic mask that resembles Balenni's demon face. You are able to determine that this is magical.
As Leaf-on-Wind finishes with Clover, you all feel less than your best as the cold seeps deeper into your bones. Even Mr. Splinters is affected; the water still hidden within his wood begins to freeze and splinters his wood. Leaf-on-Wind begins to tend to Nabi's wounds while you try to make sense of the documents in the other room. While you work, the tower shakes as though the island were experiencing an earthquake. The tremors last for a minute.
Continuing your reading, you learn that Balenni came to the island and began the corruption of the hermitage before she became involved with the xulgath. There is a particularly self-congratulatory entry on how she coaxed Nemmia into devising an attack upon Abberton. However, after she left the hermitage to its corrupted fate, she met and joined forces with a band of xulgath led by a priest named Cavnakash.
Cavnakash has been trying to destroy the great orb circling the tower, though you gather from the notes that Balenni never understood what he hoped to gain from this (and did not particularly care). She does note that Cavnakash is working for yet more powerful xulgath in an abandoned temple underneath the town of Escadar called Moonstone Hall.
None of you who lived and worked in Madame Dusklight's Menagerie are familiar with the name "Moonstone Hall." Balenni's notes indicate that she does not think the Moonstone Hall is devoted to the demon lord Zevgavizeb but likely an abandoned temple the xulgath converted.
It is clear that she grew bored with Cavnakash's work and had been spending her time trying to create love triangles among the xulgath generals for her own amusement and had plans to leave the island soon for more interesting venues.
