PFS 2 GM ZD |

Welcome all.
Starting date will be Monday 06/22. Depending upon my work load that night, it may actually start on the 23rd very early in the AM.
I usually post once in a 24 hour period. Known to do more if the players engage more. I do not require post on the weekend. That is family time.
I am still trying to work out how to work secret checks into PBP. I am beginning to lean more towards putting the information in spoilers. Makes it flow faster, however, if it happens to be critically failable? and you get it, I do expect you to play along since that is what you "know".
This is a two part series, so hope you all are ready for a long haul. I have played with many of you before and know this is a good group.

Player name: Edward McGee
Character name: Herondal Lapetty
Character level: 5
Slotted faction boon: Improved Hunter's Champion (Horizon Hunters)
PFS #: 145373 - 2001
Perception modifier: +12 (+1 item bonus to visual)
Usual exploration mode tactic Search
Lore skills trained: Government, Academia
Earn Income check: perform Drama lvl 5 due to boon x8 days: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 14 + 1 = 34
Trained agent or field agent? Trained Spells x3
Herondal used the free rebuild but I kept him mostly the same. The biggest change is he is now a Gnome.
Herondal has Inspire Competence which means he will dramatically perform to aid various checks at a total bonus of +15. A roll of 2 - 4 will still succeed but a 1 is still a critical failure and 30+ is a critical success.

I'll still need to update Kang's profile page.
Player Name: kuey
Character Name: Zhao Kang
Character Level: 4
PFS #: 215076-2002
Faction: Grand Archive
Downtime: Crafting:
(In previous scenario, Kang already spent 3 days to prepare scroll of dispel magic)
1 day to finish prepping scroll of dispel magic
Spend 6gp for materials
crafting, expert: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 (Met DC18 so success, 8sp a day.)
7 days to reduce cost (7x0.8=5.6gp)
Spend 0.4gp to complete item
Trained: Spells x 3
Usual Exploration Mode: Avoid Notice ('cos he's squishy)
I'm building Kang to be a multi-purpose wizard:
- Universalist wizard
- Spell substitution to switch out spells when needed
- Amassing a spread of different scrolls
- Alchemist dedication with quick alchemy, allowing him to create alchemical items on the fly (although limited to level 1 items now)

![]() |

Quinoline is an alchemist with a wizard dedication! You must be my good twin.

![]() |

Fafrd is now up to date in his profile....
<2gp short of getting his striking rune for his bow, so that all of his weapons are +1 striking

![]() |

Quinoline walks in sporting a massive black eye and some brand new glasses.
"I took a devil's longsword to the face," she explains. "It looks bad but it's fine now. Ready to get started."

![]() |

Erratum: It was a flaming mace that crit Quinoline. Either way, she has a black eye and needed some new glasses.
Her profile is updated. Biggest change is that she now has a fancy ruby ring that she wears while she's near the blast furnace.

![]() |

Have updated Kang's profile, and ready to start!

PFS 2 GM ZD |

Game play is active. I'll have the post up in a bit.
You meeting place is on the docks of Quantium, which is in Nex.

![]() |

Fafrd did do 1-11.
And, I should state my boon, I assume:
- Expert Hireling (Society + Pathfinder Lore)
- promotional service award (Campaign coin)
- Envoy's Alliance champion
- (Advanced) Devil’s Keep (from 1-11)
Infernal Detonations [reaction] Trigger A creature within 30 feet of you targets you or an ally with an attack; Effect The creature takes fire damage equal to 1d6 + your level (basic Reflex save). The DC of the Reflex save is equal to your spell DC or your class DC, whichever is higher.
I think I have room for one more, so I will take a look to see what else I might have.

PFS 2 GM ZD |

@Crafty Herb, that is the only mention of the 1-11, but it is tagged as a Meta-plot.
If everyone else can slot their boons as well. And everyone gains their one hero point.
If you have any GM Glyphs you may hand out additional hero points. 1 per glyph, and no player can obtain more than one hero point this way.

![]() |

I do have a glyph, and I will give it to whoever (other than me) is the lowest level here.
If we have a level 3 I can slot my mentor boon

![]() |

Looks like we do so I will slot it. Need to look up what it does though.

PFS 2 GM ZD |

That reminds me. I have to calculate challenge points and the like.
Levels 3,4,4,5,5,6 = 2,3,3,4,4,6 CP
Total ACP 24
So it looks like we are at 24 challenge points, which means high tier. If someone feels up to it, and wants to double check my math, i would appreciate it.
It looks like Crafty Herb will benefit from a level bump. Which means,
-Increase every DC the PC has by 1.
-Increase the attack modifiers, attack damage, spell damage, saving throw modifiers, skill modifiers, Perception modifiers, and AC of the PC by 1.
-Increase the Hit Point totals of the PC by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher.

![]() |

2+3+3+4+4+6=22 but yes it should be high tier

![]() |

@ZD thanks! I will then keep Crafty :)
Boons:
One-Who-Waits (Slotless)
Traveler of the Spirit Road (General)
Experienced Mountaineer (General)
Touch by the Storm (General)
Coin Award (Promotional)

PFS 2 GM ZD |

Thank you. Not sure where that extra 2 came from.

![]() |

Improved Hunter's Champion
Storied Talent
Team Player
Devil's Keep
Rugged Mentor (Crafty Herb gains an extra +1 to saves for a total of +2)
School items will be 2 scrolls of Heal for Crafty Herb to use. One at level 3 and one at level 1.

![]() |

Faction: Radiant Oath
General: Cryptid Scholar
General: Valais's Assurance
General: Traveler of the Spirit Road
General: Waters of Warlock's Barrow
Slotless: Practiced Medic

![]() |

mentor, socialPrerequisites Envoys’ Alliance Tier 1
Cost 2 Fame
While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you provide vital advice to sharpen your newer colleagues’ skills. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase the Level Bump’s modifier to skill checks to 2.
Normal A Level Bump increases a PC’s skill check modifiers by 1.
Special A PC can only benefit from two mentor boons.
Crafty, note that you are also getting an extra Hero Point as I am a 1 sigil GM, and I am granting it to you.
Training Items: Lesser healing potion and a potency crystal (on my bow)

![]() |

I'll use one if someone can give me some tips on how to do it. Do I have to buy the boon? Is it one time use? I'm Radiant Oath.

![]() |

It is a boon, that you would assign.
See the guide under faction boons. They cost 2 fame, and do not get used up.
But, with mine, and Herondal's he already has 2 (though he might want the HP more than the skills?)

![]() |

Cool. I will buy it whether it's used or not, it seems useful.
Do the HP from my boon stack with the HP from Level Bump? So they would have 20 more HP than normal?
I will bump Cryptid Scholar for the mentor boon if Crafty wants HP instead of saves.

Faction: Horizon Hunters
General: (Touched by the Storm) Your exposure to the stormy power of the Scale of the Spurned Tempest has inured you to the elements to a small degree. While this boon is slotted, you gain cold resistance 1 and electrical resistance 1
General: [ ] [ ] [ ] (Nexian Researcher): You can check a box next to this boon whenever you attempt a Pathfinder Society Lore check as part of the action required for that check. If you are Untrained in Pathfinder Society Lore, you can add your level to your Intelligence modifier when determining you bonus to this check.
General: [ ] [ ] [ ](Traveler of the Spirit Road): Whenever you would critically fail a check to Hide, Sneak, Sense Direction, or Track while in a forested area, you may check a box next to this boon as a free action to treat that check as a failure instead.
General: (Expert Hireling) (survival +9, Sailing Lore+9)
School-swords:Lesser healing potion, lesser antiplague

![]() |

Training Items: Lesser healing potion, scroll of magic missile
Boons:
Faction: Grand Archive Champion, Improved
General:
1. Magical Mentor (Assuming Crafty Herb wants to prepare one additional spell of their highest-level spell slot. If not, will switch to Esoteric Wayfinder)
2. Expert Hireling (+8, Diplomacy, Government Lore)
3. Touched by the Storm: Cold & Electricity Resistance 1
4. Cryptid Scholar

Crafty, I believe you have three mentor boons to choose from - Zhao has one from Grand Archive (1 extra spell), Grey Mouse has one from Envoys' Alliance (+2 skills), and Quinoline has one from Radiant Oath (10 extra HP, not sure if it stacks with other HP you get from Level Bump). Can you choose two?

While working with less experienced Pathfinder allies, you shield your more fragile wards from the threat of death. For any PCs benefiting from a Level Bump and whose levels are lower than yours, you increase their current and maximum Hit Points by an additional amount equal to 3 times your Radiant Oath reputation tier.
emphasis mine
So, actually, you add your faction reputation tier X 3
tier 2: 6
tier 3 (50+ rep): 9
tier 4 (90+ rep): 12
This is in addition to the 10% or 10.

Ugh ... now I have to figure out my Radiant Oath tier. lol
The website says I've got 53. If that's likely overcounted, I'm Tier 2. If that's likely undercounted, or the undercounts and overcounts balance, I'm Tier 3. I will chuckle and politely laugh at the idea that the count is neither undercounted nor overcounted. :D
My inner mathematician immediately notices the odd/even parity is wrong, I should have an even number of Radiant Oath fame because I'm primarily Radiant Oath (and should get 0/2/4 per scenario) and the only RO-fame-generating scenario is 1-12, which gives 0 or 2.
Edit: Looking through the list, one scenario and one quest are registering as 0 Fame, so it's probably an undercount (and the source of the odd/even parity error).
Edit 2: I think one scenario was not reported on the site (I have 18 Chronicles and there are 17 entries on the site), but I'd have to go through one by one to find out which one is missing.
Edit 3: Found it. I should have 62 Radiant Oath fame, so Tier 3.

@GM ZD
So I've done a bit of research on shields and I feel I need one thing clarified before we start. Per the rules the only shield that is actually strapped to the arm is the buckler. The other shields, wooden, steel and tower do not specify. Historically the viking round shield was a center grip shield held by a handle behind the boss. Larger kite shields were often strapped to the arm.
I've been using this mini and have basically always considered Astrid (as well as her predecessor Sigrid) to be basically vikings. In the past I've assumed that the shield was strapped to her arm and thus always more or less out at all times. In light of my recent discoveries I think it would be more accurate to say that the shield is actually not strapped to her arm. This will mean that I'll have to actually draw it in order to use it in combat. I have quick draw so it won't slow me down much. So unless you have any objections my shield will be stashed and I'll use quick draw to draw it and attack (It still won't be raised unless I follow up with the raise shield action) when I'm using the Avoid Notice acrivity, but it will be out and raised if I happen to use the Defend activity.

![]() |

If you mean me I don't have page numbers. The historical research was various online resources. Shield descriptions are in the equipment section of the core rulebook. Quick draw is in the ranger and rogue sections and the two activities are somewhere in the exploration section I think.

PFS 2 GM ZD |

Under the changing equipment table, under wielding items section, on page 272 of the core rule book, it explicitly calls for "detach a shield or item strapped to you" as 1 interact action and 1 hand to do so. So it sounds as if all shields are attached.
This very small shield is a favorite of duelists and quick, lightly armored warriors. It’s typically made of steel and strapped to your forearm. You can Raise a Shield with your buckler as long as you have that hand free or are holding a light object that’s not a weapon in that hand.
I also feel that the bolded line was added with the purpose to show how you can hold a light item in your hand while wearing it. Just my two cents worth, I do not speak for the developers/writers.

![]() |

No worries. We'll go with that then. Default will be strapped to my arm.

PFS 2 GM ZD |

Player to player, I have my own viking sword and board fighter and I feel your pain. Shields are nice, but can be pain in the butts.

![]() |

I don't mind much either way. I just kind of like the verisimilitude. Video on shields and article on center grip shields are a couple of places that I found while researching and why I contend that center grip shields are not strapped to the forearm. I don't really mind going Captain America style either.

![]() |

Looks like Crafty is already using my mentor boon, which is cool.

![]() |

I believe Crafty chose Fafrd and Herondal (sorry for missing you in my list!). Quinoline and Zhao can slot other boons.
I will take Grey's Mouse and Herondal's boon to help Crafty.
