Chug moves out of the way and starts to pray. After ten minutes he moves to Argoni and press his hands on Aroni's wounds and heals them.

The halfling is startled by the goblin's hands, but then feels Chug's god heal him. Argoni sways with the smell of ale, but then smiles at Chug. "Hey, that was cool!"

Voron thinks those slashing at the web have it, but he throws a little bit of acid at the edges of the web to make lighter work.

In the webs is the desiccated remains of a spider's meal. A leather pouch still on the body contains a single vial.

The iron chest is neither trapped nor locked but contains a shortsword, a 6-inch-tall golden statue of a woman with outstretched hands, flowing hair, and a chilling expression on her face and a journal.

The journal in the chest that describes a cult of the Golden Daughter that tried to gain control of the region. Napsunar and her agents vehemently fought against the cult but unfortunately most the villagers were seduced to join the flock of the Golden Daughter, who claimed to be a god made flesh. While the Golden Daughter did manifest strange powers, Napsunar was skeptical of her godly origin. The Golden Daughter led her followers on a pilgrimage toward the west and Napsunar apparently lost track of her; at least, no records specifying the Golden Daughter’s fate are included in the journal. Napsunar abandoned the lodge when the village begun to die out due to hostile environment rife with bandits and monsters. The villagers that were left behind settled nearer to the Sellen River. One of the Pathfinder agents, Pavo Crispin, found a wife among the villagers and stayed behind with her when the other agents left with Napsunar.

Finally, tucked into the back of the journal on a separate sheet of folded paper is a list of Pathfinder agents that operated in the lodge.

It is currently evening and the sun has nearly finished dipping below the horizon.

"Interesting things here. Maybe we can find the house where this Pathfinder agent who married one of the villagers is," Locke suggests and then looks outside. "Maybe in the morning?"

Voron nods at Locke's suggestion. Yes. I think we've got all of the confirmation we need about this place. Hearing a first-hand account always helps, and maybe he can fill us in some more on this cult.

He eyes the statue and frowns. Hmph, people will follow anything.

Vorun soon casts the statue aside (for whoever else to hold it when the return) and holds the vial up in front of discerning eyes.

"Pavo Crispin sounds like a Taldane or Chelish name, so he's probably dead," Locke says. "But he might have left more behind in his home in the village."

Delorn accepts the vial. He looks it over skeptically, before he focuses his attention on it.

Voron looks at the sorry state of the floor-boards around them. He thrusts his staff into the boards several feet away to break one off and make the point. Strength: 1d20 ⇒ 2 He only manages to kick a bit of debris further along the floor.

You begin to make your way through the abandoned village to a section where the buildings are a little more protected from the elements. As you travel you notice the light of a campfire and the smell of wood smoke coming from one of the buildings nearby.

"Hey! Someone else had the same idea!" he says. "You think they're hunters or bandits? Or maybe a crotchety, old hermit."

Locke looks left and right as most everyone slips away to cover. He shrugs and proceeds toward the campfire. ”Hello?”

As you get a bit closer to the building you notice that is a barn with an attached silo. The nearby farmhouse is dilapidated and probably not of much use. The barn on the other hand is mostly intact, except for the fact that there is clearly smoke coming from a large hole in the roof.

Most of you slip into the shadows while Locke approaches.

A burly, red-haired man responds through the opening of the barn which is missing its doors.

"Who's there?"

The tone is demanding but not alarmed or angry.

"Well, I'm Locke," he begins. "I'm a Pathfinder. I don't know if you know what that is. We were looking for evidence of an old Pathfinder lodge in the area. That big building on the hill turned out to be what we were looking for, but then it was rather late and dark, and I was not keen on hiking back through that swamp to town while alligators or whatever nipped at my heels..."

”...so we decided to pay you a visit”, says Delorn, stepping out of the shadows and beside Locke.

He bows to the red-haired man. ”Delorn Malix, Esquire”, he adds. ”And you are?”

"People call me Chops. Why don't you and your... Pathfinders come join us around the fire."

Voron steps out of the shadow and into the makeshift dwelling, giving Chops a slight bow.

The halfling, who hadn't done a good job of hiding himself steps out from behind the others. "Hullo! Thank you for sharing your fire. I'm Argi. What are you doing out here? Do you live here or nearby?"

"We are outcasts in our own land. Me and my crew are part of the Firebrands, a bit of a loose-knit band of political reformers. We think it is time that King Edryd went the way of Waike." This elicits nods and cheers of acclimation all around the campfire. "We could always use a few more hands and some brilliant minds... but I'd understand if you were a bit skeptical. So how's about camping with us and speaking to our leader in the morning."

”Well, we certainly appreciate the offer”, says Delorn, ”and I see no problem with hearing your people out”

He looks to the others for confirmation.

So it's time for another rebellion then. I don't have any immediately founded skepticisms, but it's good to be sure that the replacement represents the people better than the predecessor. I'm sure that's what your leader has ideas about. What would you do better than King Edryd?

“As it happens, we do”, Delorn replies. ”Where should we meet you, and when?”

Argoni yawns and stretches. "Sounds like a plan to me. Just tell us where to meet. In the meantime, where's the best place to get lunch?"

"Yes. We're archaeologists, and we have some reports to make on the building we explored," Locke says. "And, well, we had planned to explore that village we were just at, but I guess that can wait until afterwards, since we hiked all the way back here..."

Yes, and we're going to be breaking out and blanketing the town to ask around, so it's going to get a bit disorganized anyway. Recall that we had some questions about your cause last night, and I suppose you might want to prep your leader with them for when we speak later.

Asking around about Pavo Crispin you find out there is an old woman names Aula Crispin in town and are given directions to her house.

Delorn gives Chops a nod, grinning as they walk away. ”Now then”, he says to the others, the grin fading, ”let’s check in at the River Steed, and let Smine know what we’ve learned so far, shall we?”
