"Beacon, what beacon? We didn't hear an emergency beacon when we came in, did we? Did they screw with Rasheen's trail beacon? If they've thrown us off our pursuit, I'm gonna be really angry!"

"Maybe they tampered with Rasheen's Beacon."
GM Aerondor |
It is hard to tell, given the state of the dead bodies whether any were the ones from the video. From the context though it seems likely. It also seems likely the beacon is question is Rasheen's. Especially as the map they had that took them here is the same as the one you were following...
Donovan Delacroix |
"Looks like we're in for another hike. Everyone ready?" Donovan directs his question to Sefel as he rechecks his environmental seals. He indicates that Chivix should recheck his too.
Bluuuuu |
I believe so. Bluuuuu says, triple-checking his own as well.
Wait the barathu says. Did we confirm there was nothing in the cargo holds?
Forget if we checked A and F already or not. If not, Bluuuuu would cautiously go to area F
Sefel Lamunesh |
Sefel gives his suit and its seals a once over. He nods at Donovan.
I am ready.
He follows Bluuuuu to the cargo hold to inspect before they head out.
Donovan Delacroix |
"OK. Let's do that first." Donovan will go with them, but won't actually enter the hold unless they need his help.
GM Aerondor |
The holds look like they have been ransacked. A perception check may turn up something... who knows?
-=-=-=-
The Starfinder crew makes ready to head back out onto the frozen surface of the moon. Following the route takes about 20 minutes, although it is mostly on the slippery rock rather than the pure ice - so luckily no more volcanic erruptions!
A sheening path of rock and ice winds around a sudden growth that juts from the icy ground surrounding the area. Patches of dark ice gleam in the light of the gas giant overhead. At the peak of the winding path, a golden pillar glimmers at the edge of a slowly drifting fog bank. Near the base of the pillar, an access panel is visible; below it, two dark forms lie motionless under a thin layer of snow. But all too soon the fog closes in again, leaving the team in pea-soup.[/ooc]
Mechanics:
Each of the squares here count as being ice and must be treated as difficult terrain, along with increasing the DC of all Acrobatics checks by 5. Along with this, a pervasive fog encompasses the area obscuring all sight beyond 5 feet, including darkvision. In addition, creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while the targets of laser weapons count as having both cover and concealment from the fog.
The beacon rests at the top of a rise about 20 feet above the entry path, with a sharp drop on one side. Creatures can scale the walls to get up without using the path, but must succeed at a DC 20-30 Athletics check in order to successfully climb the jagged ice sides.

Back in the hold
You discover an unopened freight box that contains some pilfered Xinya family supplies. The crate contains several pieces of stone figurines displaying humanoid figures with two thumbs on each hand and an eye in the back of their head. The figures wear baroque gothic armor inlaid with fine brass trim. Along with the stone figurines, you also find a set of clearsight goggles.
Which might be handy. While you *can* fly... the mist generally makes it very difficult to see, so you stand a high risk of banging into the cliff face..
--
On the way to the cliff, Sefel things he also spots the odd blue lights once more in the ice, but nobody else can make them out.
---
You make it to the top of the cliffs without any massive difficulty.
Up there are two bodies.
Bluuuuu |
Who wants the goggles?
As he spies the bodies, Bluuuuu motions for the others to be careful. It is possible they are also not fully dead. Allow me.
The barathu approaches closer, seeing if the bodies spring to life while trying to examine them to see how they died.
Medicine: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Donovan Delacroix |
"The lovers maybe. Came here for a tryst?" Donovan looks over the corpses.
If no one else would like them, Donovan will take the glasses. He's already gotten armor and a gun, though, so....
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Culture w/Expertise: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + (5) + 1 = 21
GM Aerondor |
Bluuu approaches the bodies, which surprisingly, don't animate and lurch at him. What killed them is unclear to him.
JAck tries to identify the bodies, but has no real idea. Donovan's idea seems as good as anyones - although it is pretty cold out here. He also remembers some folk from the ship got sent to the beacon...
The beacon appears to be by the bodies.
Are you all staying in the air for the moment, or landing?
I'll assume it is (with very slow flying due to the mists) about one minute of flying to get up to the top.
Bluuuuu |
Bluuuuu would likely be hovering a foot or two off the ground, but not out of paranoia, just because barathus just float around in general.
Do we think this is what Radazam was having us seek? Bluuuuu glances to the party members with a better grasp of analyzing the beacon now in front of them.
Re the goggles: Bluuuuu has Blind-Fight so gets less of a huge boost out of them. Would gladly offer to someone else.
Donovan Delacroix |
Donovan will also land once they reach the top. He'll be more interested in keeping a look out than on the beacon itself.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Sefel Lamunesh |
Hmm, I wonder how these two died before they could return the beacon...
He doesn't pay them much head before turning his attention to the beacon.
Now, I wonder what trouble this gave them, if any.
Engineering, analyze the beacon: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34 Or would it be just plain perception?
Placed on the map.
GM Aerondor |
The team descends upon the beacon and bodies, trying to work out what happened, and what information they can gather.
Each of the squares here count as being ice and must be treated as difficult terrain, along with increasing the DC of all Acrobatics checks by 5. Along with this, a pervasive fog encompasses the area obscuring all sight beyond 5 feet, including darkvision. In addition, creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while the targets of laser weapons count as having both cover and concealment from the fog
Suddenly Bluuu and Donovan feel a horrid chill that even their armour cannot keep out. Donovan dodges the frozen blasts, but Bluu takes it full on his thermal capacitors!
Remember, while Donovan and Bluu know the direction the blast came from, you can't actually see anything at the moment due to the fog.

This cannon has the explode property so I'm not sure how that interacts with concealment. I'm aiming at the spot with the circle and it explodes in 10 ft so it should catch them both. They get a reflex save, which I think is calculated the same as grenades which would be DC 18, for half damage.
GM Aerondor |
Blindsight for the win. Just to make sure I have Starfinder rules for multidamge weapons right. The E&F damage of 14 is actually 7 fire and 7 electricity. So if I were immune to electricity I would only take 7, and if immune to electricity but vulnerable to fire I would take 7*1.5=10 fire damage?
Bugface targets a spot and lets fire with his plasma cannon.
Bugface feels another wave of cold pass him by, but he is protected by his armour.
