Quinoline Silicate |
Would that get Quinoline anywhere close to +13?
There's a typo in Quinoline's character sheet. Her Stealth should be +11, not +1. In which case, Stealth is a decent option.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

If we use Deception, does each of us need to make a roll?
Everyone needs to make one roll in each phase. They do not need to be the same skill.

True but come on! Did everyone not see Herondal's link? Deception is totally the funniest tactic. It's even funnier with everyone doing it regardless of ability.

Completely agree that all pretending to be zombies is the way to go for sheer fun factor alone! That link is hilarious.
Oskar draws upon everything that he has learned in his Method acting classes to BE a zombie.
Performance (Acting): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Or - if that's not an allowed skill - then:
Deception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Oskar is untrained and level 3, so I think Follow the Expert would add an additional +3?
When the adventurers get to a point where a bit of revelry will not alert the actual zombies, Oskar teaches his companions a little song.
GM Dennis |
Taking your first roll.
Oskar's methods are unconventional...and not so effective. Everyone else, though, does quite well, and their skill manages to cover for for Oskar, as the party doesn't seem to attract much attention on the way to the ship. Which brings us to our next challenge:
Phase 2: Shh! Investigate Quickly and Quietly
Next, you must investigate the wreck quickly and quietly. Suggested options are as follows. There is room for creative solutions, if you can justify your method:
Oskar Z. |
Oskar recalls that he once played a gig at a pub on the docks and the sailors there bored him senseless with their talk of how they stowed their cargo and filed their paperwork.
Bardic Lore to Recall Knowledge on any topic: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 If I can use Guidance on myself, then +1
Erolith Latherian |
Erolith joins Oskar in discussing the most common locations to store documents on a ship.
bardic lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Quinoline Silicate |
Quinoline will sneak around.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Pretty good, considering she's carrying a bag of glass shards!
Astrid Gertasdottir |
Astrid turns to the old man that's been driving the wagon.
"Okay Holmgeir, it's time to earn your pay. Where would the manifests and cargo be stored?"
I'm using my expert hireling that I kind of forgot that I slotted.
Sailing Lore: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
GM Dennis |
Wow, y'all are crushing this!
In a determined and methodical manner, the party sets about quickly searching the boat for cargo. You quickly discover the cargo hold, where you find several crates of steel ingots intact, along with a bundle of papers rolled up in an oilskin to protect them from the elements. The papers include various cargo manifests, insurance inventories, import authorizations, duty forms, etc--exactly the sort of things you've been asked to bring back. As you examine your findings, however, the sound of the rain begins to intensify, and a strong gust of wind shakes the boat. It seems the storm outside is intensifying, and was that a moan you heard, just outside? You better hurry!
Phase 3: Load up whatever you can, quick!
The next challenge is to grab whatever you can and prepare to vamoose! Suggested options are as follows. There is room for creative solutions, if you can justify your method:
Quinoline Silicate |
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
You jinxed it!
"Come on guys, I can tell there's going to be a break in the weather!"
Quinoline opens the door to a face full of rain.
Herondal Lapetty |
Keeping to his undead disguise Herondal keeps an eye out for trouble while the others gather the evidence.
"A Bag of Holding would help if anyone has one."
perception visual: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 1 = 19
Jinxed indeed.
Erolith Latherian |
I'd like to use Thievery to expertly tie the supplies down to whatever we are transporting it in. Either making efficient bundles or tieing everything together to stabilize the load.
Erolith gets to work roping up bundles to be moved by the stronger party members. "Got a couple bundles ready to haul!" he calls out as he makes some.
thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Quinoline Silicate |
Quinoline has a Bag of Holding Type I. It's got 13.2 Bulk left.
Astrid Gertasdottir |
"A Bag of Holding would help if anyone has one."
I have that and then some. My bag of holding has at least 20 bulk of space left. I also have the hefty hauler feat if that might help at all.
Astrid retrieves her bag of holding
"Quickly! Shove as much as you can in here!"
Athletics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Athletics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 Hero point reroll
Oskar Z. |
Oskar watches the others schlepping the heavy boxes hither and thither before volunteering to keep watch for any more undead. "It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it!"
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
GM Dennis |
Oskar keeps an eye on the intensifying storm, watching for threats while Erolith packages and Astrid loads cargo into the various bags of holding. A powerful gust of rain wash over the boat, the wind shaking the hull, and the moans of the undead outside are now clearly audible. The storm is upon you, and it's time to go!
Phase 4: Time to go!
The final challenge is to escape before it’s too late! Suggested options are as follows. There is room for creative solutions, if you can justify your method:
Herondal Lapetty |
There is a reason he is so good at imitating them.
religion to avoid the undead: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Ah hubris will be my downfall. Let's use a hero point on that.
religion to avoid the undead: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
*sigh*
Astrid Gertasdottir |
athletics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
"Hurry! They're right behind us!
Erolith Latherian |
Erolith tries to throw his voice over the storm to lead the undead elsewhere.
deception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Quinoline Silicate |
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Quinoline is quiet but not quiescent.
Oskar Z. |
Oskar tiptoes past the undead, uncharacteristically keeping quiet.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Astrid Gertasdottir |
Quinoline is quiet but not quiescent.
Quite
GM Dennis |
Emerging from the wreckage into the now-driving rain, you see that what was once a large handful of undead has swelled to be several dozens. Even more ominously, the water beneath the darkest of the storm clouds, only a few hundred feet offshore now, seems to be churning in a most disturbing fashion. Aided by Erolith's impressive ventriloquism, Oskar and Quinoline sneak quietly to the shore, while Kamil quickly paddles a makeshift raft to get everyone else and the cargo safely to the treeline. From there, you can make your way back up the footpath to the road and back to your cart, where the rain-soaked donkey hitched to it gives you a mournful look. On the way back down to the Silver Spoon, you catch a glimpse of the ship through the torrents of rain, the shallows now downright crawling with shambling figures as more emerge from the depths of the lake!
Well done! You scored a total of 19 successes through the course of the investigation phase (the DC was 20 at this tier, and a crit gets you two), which is enough to recover four crates of cargo, the maximum possible.
Venture-Captain Valicho is delighted at your return, welcoming you in out of the rain, which seems to have chased you all the way down the coast. ”Come in, come in! I’ve got a table open by the fire.” He retreats behind the bar, then returns bearing a tray with 6 leather-wrapped tankards, each with a sizzling iron rod submerged in the pungent beverage within. As you warm yourselves, he unrolls the oilcloth and examines the documents you recovered. ”This looks like exactly what Mr. Passad asked for. Well done, Pathfinders, and thank you for your help! This will go a long way toward establishing our position in Kerse.”
That’s the end! Well done, Pathfinders, and in plenty of time for PaizoCon next week. I’ll get chronicle sheets made up later today and posted in the discussion thread. Thanks for playing, I hope you had fun!
Astrid Gertasdottir |
Astrid takes one of the mugs and raises it towards her companions.
"Skål!"
Then, lifting the mug to her lips she downs its entire contents, belches mightily and wipes her mouth with her sleeve.
"Not bad."
Herondal Lapetty |
On the way back Herondol worries. "I don't like the presence of so many undead or this storm. Hopefully no one has angered Gozrah."
Once we get by the fire he cheers up some.
Quinoline Silicate |
Quinoline quaffs, quenching her thirst.
Crafting (alchemy): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
"Floral overtones ... hints of oak ... late harvest ..."
Oskar Z. |
Oskar pulls out his lute and begins composing a tune to commemorate their - and especially his - valor.
Perform: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
... though it seems like all the water - or the rain, yeah, the rain - has gotten his lute out of tune.
Thanks for running, GM! I really liked this one!
